Gnoster Wisdom of Night, also known as Sentient Pest, is a Nightlord in Nightreign. This particular encounter is made up of two separate creatures, each with its own distinct attack properties. As with other Nightlords, this is a challenging Night Boss faced on the third and final day, bringing its own unique move set, weaknesses, resistances, skills, and abilities. Defeating it requires players to coordinate their attacks carefully in order to achieve victory. Gnoster Wisdom of Night is specifically the Nightlord encountered during the Sentient Pest expedition.
There's also a separate Event Boss version of the moth from this fight, simply called Sentient Pest. This is the same boss that can show up across different Expeditions during the Plague of Locust Event, though this version is noticeably weaker compared to its Nightlord counterpart.
A flying insect and living shears that trail the earth. Those lucky enough to escape the former's rain of magic light fall victim to the shears. If moth poison is ingested, it will eat through the host — a parasite that cannot be removed alone.

Negations (or Absorptions)
The negation numbers are the % of your damage that gets blocked. For example, if a negation is 60, 40% of that damage by that type will go through and 60% will be negated. Bigger number = less damage. A negation of 100 means no damage goes through, and a negation of -100 mean the enemy takes 2x damage from that source. 0 means damage goes pretty much as is.

Gnoster Wisdom of Night Fight Strategy
The Best Tips for Gnoster Wisdom of Night:
Gnoster Wisdom of Night, encountered during the Sentient Pest expedition,is a Nightlord consisting of two separate enemies, Faurtis and Gnoster. Faurtis takes the form of a large, scorpion-like creature whose attacks, things like pincer strikes, slams, and lunges, are clearly telegraphed, giving players time to react appropriately. Gnoster, on the other hand, spends most of the fight flying, which makes it a particularly awkward target for melee-focused Nightfarers trying to land hits. Throughout the encounter, Gnoster fires magical projectiles directly at players, and these can be avoided either by rolling through them or simply running clear. Despite being two separate creatures, Faurtis and Gnoster share a single collective health bar, meaning damage dealt to either one chips away at the same overall HP pool. Because of this, players are encouraged to bring Weapons or Incantations that deal
Fire damage, since this is especially effective against Gnoster.
Phase 1
In this first phase, both Gnoster and Faurtis rely on fairly simple attacks that can be handled with properly timed rolls. The Moth, referring to Gnoster, mainly uses two attacks during this stage. One involves firing six magical projectiles at players two at a time, requiring players to strafe sideways while dodging them. The other is a quick burst of mist that applies a debuff, a parasite that deals damage and slows down anyone caught inside it, though this can be removed by having another player attack the affected ally. The Moth can also make the sky shimmer as it fires projectiles upward, which are then followed shortly after by a rain of projectiles falling in a cone shape, showering the area below with volleys of light. When this particular attack triggers, staying directly underneath the Moth is actually the safest place to be.
Meanwhile, Faurtis, referred to here as the Shears, attacks using its legs and pincers. If a player is positioned to its side, it can stomp the ground on that same side, causing spikes to burst out of the earth in front of where it struck. It also has lunging claw attacks that can catch players off guard due to their unexpectedly quick speed. Every so often, the Shears encases itself in a white shell that significantly reduces incoming damage, and when this happens, it's a good cue for players to shift focus toward the flying Moth instead. Since the Moth is difficult to hit while airborne, having at least one Ironeye in the group is recommended to keep dealing damage to it during these stretches.
Phase 2
Once Gnoster's health drops to 50%, the Moth lands on top of the Shears' head and remains there for the rest of the fight. From this point on, the two creatures combine their attacks, with the Moth launching dangerous projectiles while the Shears uses its body to strike directly. These attacks often happen at the same time, such as the Shears charging at a player while the Moth simultaneously fires off its projectiles.
The Moth also picks up a new attack in this phase: an orbital beam that tracks the player after it emits a burst of light. When this attack begins, the safest approach is to play defensively and keep moving around the battlefield, since the beam can hit repeatedly once it makes contact. This phase is considerably tougher than the first, so a more defensive approach against the Sentient Pest is recommended overall. When the Shears performs one of its slower physical attacks, players can stay close to its side and counterattack safely. Generally, positioning on the sides of Gnoster helps players avoid both its charging attacks and the Moth's projectiles before they even happen.

Gnoster Wisdom of Night Attacks & Counters
| Attack | Description | Counter |
| Pincer Attack (Shears) | Faurtis slowly winds up its pincers, then brings them together to crush players caught in the middle. | This attack is telegraphed, so players can safely dodge roll to the side closest to safety. |
| Stomp Attack (Shears) | Faurtis violently stomps the ground on either the left or right side, forming spikes on the ground where its legs land. | Players can position themselves behind or on the opposite side of where the stomp is to completely avoid the attack. |
| Pincer Slam (Shears) | Faurtis stands on its hind legs, winding up its claws, then slams it onto the ground, creating spikes on the ground that can impale players. | As soon as Faurtis stands on its hind legs, players can strafe or run behind it to be in a safe position to attack Faurtis until it recovers. |
| Shout (Shears) | Faurtis will briefly channel a shout, damaging players who are constantly in range of the shout. | Faurtis' tail will start to tremble before shouting, allowing players to move away from the front of the boss. If evaded successfully, players may attack the rear part or tail of Faurtis. |
| Light Bolt (Moth) | Gnoster will cast magical projectiles that moves at a moderate speed towards the player. | Once the projectiles are moving towards the player, they may dodge roll to the side or towards the projectile on impact. |
| Rain of Light (Moth) | Gnoster will shoot several rays of light above the arena, which will then shoot out small beams of light in several areas. | Players may look at the sky for light particles as visual cue to know where the beams of light will shoot out from. |
| Lunge (Moth) | Gnoster's legs will glow blue, then lunges towards the player in a straight line. | Dodge roll or strafe to either side as soon as the moth's legs begin to glow. |
| Harden (Shears) | Faurtis will be enveloped in hardened skin, making attacks possibly bounce and reducing the shear's damage taken. | When Faurtis becomes housed in a cocoon, focus on attacking Gnoster to deal damage to the boss. |
| Charging Attack (Moth and Shears) | When the moth is on the head of the shears, the shears will clamp its pincers together and charge forward in a straight line while the moth releases beams of light in front of it. | As soon as the moth lands on the head of the shears, players should make sure to avoid positioning directly in front of the shears to preemptively avoid the charge. However, if in the wrong position, players can dodge roll to the side closest to safety. |

|---|---|---|
| Ascendant Orbital Ray (Spectral Moth) | Animus will produce multiple beacons of light around it, summoning a multitude of red orbital rays, with one massive one appearing after the initial rays die down. | Players can avoid the first orbital rays by running away from where they will appear, doing the same for the massive orbital rays will also ensure avoiding the attack. |

Gnoster Wisdom of Night Everdark Sovereign (Sentient Pest) Fight Strategy
The Everdark Sovereign variant of Gnoster plays out similarly to the regular version (Gnoster Wisdom of Night), with the Everdark Sovereign Gnoster starting in the second form of the regular version. In the first phase of the fight, Gnoster will be mounted on Faurtis (the Scorpion), using attacks that players have encountered in the regular fight. During this phase, players are recommended to stay on the side or rear of Faurtis to avoid taking damage, as most of its attacks will consist of charging forward and sending out a barrage of light projectiles to its chosen target. However, when Gnoster's health is depleted, players will face three individual bosses simultaneously: Animus, Ascendant Light, Gnoster, Wisdom of Night, and Faurtis Stoneshield. In this phase, the three bosses will attack independently so that players grouped into three can draw out one boss each and fight them separately. An interesting mechanic in this fight is that when Faurtis Stoneshield's health is depleted, the Animus will possess it, regaining its HP and enhancing its attacks.
Phase 1
At the beginning of the fight, Everdark Sovereign Gnoster will start in the second phase of the original fight. During this phase, Everdark Sovereign Gnoster will be directing light projectiles toward its chosen target, although players can easily react to the attacks by either positioning themselves underneath Faurtis or by moving away from its front to avoid the Enhanced Charging Attack. Gnoster can also channel an orbital strike, focused on one area, which can be easily avoided by the Nightfarers, as the attack will be stationary. Due to the attacks being easily evaded, players can freely hit the boss until its health is depleted, which then transitions into Phase 2.
Phase 2
When Everdark Sovereign Gnoster's health is depleted, it will split into three bosses: Animus, Ascendant Light; Gnoster, Wisdom of Night; and Faurtis Stoneshield. In this phase, players can individually focus on their chosen boss to simplify the fight. Gnoster will begin using its Poison Mist attack, which inflicts multiple damage ticks while building up
Poison on those caught in the mist. It will also fire light projectiles that can be dodged by strafing or rolling sideways.
Faurtis Stoneshield retains the same attacks from the first phase of the regular variant (see Gnoster Wisdom of Night), including stomps that trigger spikes emerging from the ground. These close-range attacks are relatively simple, so it is recommended to defeat Gnoster first before focusing on Faurtis Stoneshield to make the fight more manageable.
Once Faurtis Stoneshield's health is depleted, Animus, Ascendant Light will possess it, making Faurtis more aggressive and enhancing its attacks. In this state, Faurtis gains lunging and charge attacks aimed at its target's position. Players should avoid standing in front of Faurtis for extended periods of time to minimize risk. Occasionally, when possessed, Faurtis will roar, signaling the start of its Tantrum attack, where it repeatedly slams its pincers into the ground, creating explosive fissures. During this sequence, its erratic behavior can make it difficult for players to dodge if they stick close to the boss, so it is recommended to sprint away as it finishes the attack.
Animus will continue to possess Faurtis Stoneshield whenever its health drops. To fully defeat this Everdark Sovereign variant of Gnoster Wisdom of Night, players must also deplete Animus, Ascendant Light's health.

| Exploding Pincer Combo | While possessed by Animus, Faurtis will clamp its pincers together, then strikes the ground three times. At it finishes striking, it will generate small spikes in front of it that explode after a short while. | Players can position themselves beside or behind Faurtis to completely avoid the attack. |
| Tantrum | While possessed by Animus, Faurtis will roar, then slam the ground repeatedly in different directions to form fissures that explode in waves. | Players can move away from Faurtis as it roars to avoid taking damage from its erratic movement. |
Elden Ring Nightreign Gnoster Wisdom of Night Everdark Sovereign (Sentient Pest) Lore, Notes & Other Trivia
- Like all Nightlords, the bosses' names have a meaning in a real-life language:
- Animus is a Latin word for soul, fitting how Animus rises from the corpse of Gnoster. In addition, it can "possess" Faurtis upon its death, much like a "soul" re-inhabiting a body.
- Gnoster is most likely a merge of Gnosis (Greek for knowledge) and noster (Latin for our), fitting the multi-enemy nature of the encounter, and Gnoster's use of magic attacks - an element defined by knowledge.
- Faurtis is likely derived from the Latin word Fortis, meaning brave or strong, fitting the Stoneshield's powerful physical attacks.

AnonymousFighting this thing as guardian is absolutely miserable if your team can't stay alive to deal damage to it while it focuses on you. Even if you can avoid the roar completely you WILL be chipped down by melee range poison clouds that for some stupid reason do damage on their own in addition to poison build up. You'll also be chipped by the spell spam in 2nd phase, and might even get knocked backwards into orbital lasers that you previously avoided. On top of all this the scorpion loves to dead angle your shield if you're not locked onto the correct part and have precise spacing at all times causing you to get clipped by attacks that should have easily been blocked. Just all around miserable if you're forced into a war of attrition, you simply can't avoid all the nonstop chip damage if you're a bird. Oh and fun final insult that these damn bugs commit is that the scorpion can literally cancel your ultimate when it's hardened. You bounce off if it hardens while you're diving, wasting your ultimate and it won't even revive allies if this happens. Fck these bugs.

AnonymousAnimus can also inhabit the Gnoster, buffing his magic attacks.

AnonymousStatus ailment wise he’s pretty susceptible to scarlet rot and frost, at least the scorpion bit is. Makes it a great way to get some damage in when it shells up for melee players.

AnonymousFellow lower fence can you please explain to me what this bosses is, because it looked like, based on the relic description, they are two regular bugs who’s “forest dried up and became a desert”. that’s the end of the story. might I remind those who are reading this that the moth can literally use magic, and both of them are 10 times the size of a regular bug.

AnonymousThe scorpion's roar is such a cheap and stupid move, barely any wind-up to it and its AOE. When you are melee and lose half hp instantly from a simple scream, it's total bullshit...

AnonymousThis thing's HP is so high it's stupid, I've used a fire grease albanauric (I can't spell sorry) bow with a good team and a comfortable amount of damage. But I still couldn't take it down just cause it was so tanky.
