Negations (or Absorptions)
The negation numbers are the % of your damage that gets blocked. For example, if a negation is 60, 40% of that damage by that type will go through and 60% will be negated. Bigger number = less damage. A negation of 100 means no damage goes through, and a negation of -100 means the enemy takes 2x damage from that source. 0 means damage goes pretty much as is.
Resistances
Poison: 542 / 999
Scarlet Rot: 542 / 999
Blood Loss: 252 / 542 / 999
Frostbite: 252 / 542 / 999
The resistance numbers are the buildup amount to trigger it. For example, if a resistance is 100, you must deal 100 points of the given buildup to trigger it. Note that these go down over time and increase each time the effect procs. The values after the "/"s indicate the increased resistances after each successive proc.

Elden Ring Nightreign Traitorous Straghess Boss Guide
Traitorous Straghess Fight Strategy
Traitorous Straghess Overview
Traitorous Straghess is a large, staff-wielding humanoid boss composed of discarded corpses. The encounter begins with slow and well-telegraphed attacks, allowing players to dodge and retaliate consistently during the early phase. Straghess primarily uses sweeping arm strikes and telegraphed staff swings, creating openings for players to retaliate.
At approximately 50% health, Traitorous Straghess transitions into its second phase. During this stage, Straghess will use attacks and spells that inflict
Scarlet Rot, significantly increasing the difficulty of the encounter. Many of the new attacks and spells are designed to control space and obstruct player movement, making it harder to be on the offense. Straghess will also summon Putrid Corpses and a large mound of flesh, slowly chasing after the player to obstruct their movement around the arena, funneling them into disadvantageous positions.
When Traitorous Straghess's health bar is fully depleted, the boss transforms into Pure Impulse Straghess, entering the third and most challenging phase of the fight. In this form, Straghess becomes highly agile, utilizing rapid movement and swift melee attacks and spells that continue to inflict
Scarlet Rot. Its attack patterns become more erratic, chaining unpredictable combos that punish players who overextend or fail to adjust to the tempo shift.
Pure Impulse Straghess frequently retreats and re-engages with high-speed lunges and combo sequences, making it a difficult target to pressure. At around 50% health in the final phase, Straghess begins summoning pillars of flesh throughout the arena. These structures allow Straghess to hide its movements and set up a surprise attack, which is a wide explosion that forces players to track the boss's position while also remaining mobile.
Phase 1 & 2
During Phases 1 and 2, the Traitorous Straghess exhibits slow and predictable behavior, allowing players to maintain offensive pressure on the boss. Straghess primarily uses wide, telegraphed claw swipes and staff sweeps, which leave the boss vulnerable during its lengthy recovery animation. Players should position themselves behind Straghess, as most of its melee attacks in the early phase will most likely not hit them behind.
In Phase 2, Straghess begins incorporating spells that inflict
Scarlet Rot into its moveset. These include close-range bursts and lingering AoE zones that can build up
Scarlet Rot even when players successfully dodge the initial cast. Players should maintain mid-range distance in this phase to avoid the buildup of
Scarlet Rot.
Straghess will also summon Putrid Corpses to pressure the players, along with a tall corpse that roams the battlefield. While these summons walk slowly along the battlefield, they should be cleared by players as they can overwhelm and hinder the players' movement. These summons can also inflict
Scarlet Rot, so players should be mindful of their positioning to avoid not only the summons but also Straghess's attacks.
Phase 3 & 4
Traitorous Straghess transforms into Pure Impulse Straghess when its health bar is depleted. In this form, the boss becomes significantly faster and more aggressive, frequently repositioning and performing long combos. Pure Impulse Straghess is difficult to chase, so players must wait for the end of its combos before attempting to retaliate.
Ranged Nightfarers (such as the Ironeye and Recluse) can consistently damage the boss while it moves between attacks. Melee Nightfarers are recommended to go for hit-and-run attacks, as being caught in Straghess's combos can be devastating to players.
At 50% health, the encounter will enter Phase 4, with Straghess becoming more relentless and adding several powerful
Scarlet Rot-based abilities to its moveset. Key attacks during this phase include the Pillars of Flesh and Flesh Eruption, both large AoE attacks capable of inflicting heavy damage and rapid
Scarlet Rot buildup. Pure Impulse Straghess may leap between summoned flesh pillars to obscure its movement before executing a ground slam attack, requiring players to track its position closely.
Traitorous Straghess Attacks & Counters
Quick Swipe
The Traitorous Straghess winds up its left hand, then performs a fast swipe toward the center. When players see Straghess winding up its hand, players can move away from melee distance or dodge roll forward to Straghess's left side to evade the attack, allowing players to be behind it and retaliate as the boss recovers.
Double Swipe
The Traitorous Straghess swipes its left arm across, immediately following up with a backhand swipe. When Straghess raises its arm, players can dodge left to avoid the first swipe, then stay behind the boss to completely dodge the backhand and counter with a quick attack.
Swinging Staff Slam
The Traitorous Straghess grabs its staff sideways with both hands and steps to the right before performing a wide swing and then a ground slam. When Straghess reaches for its staff, players can move to its left side and stay close. As the boss swings its staff, players may dodge roll behind it to avoid the entire sequence, allowing them to safely punish Straghess as it recovers from its ground slam.
Staff Grab
The Traitorous Straghess crouches, strikes the ground with the hook-end of its staff, and drags it backward. Players can dodge roll through the initial hit, then sprint behind the boss to avoid the drag and counterattack as it finishes the sequence.
Double Staff Slam
The Traitorous Straghess wields its staff with both hands, walks forward, and slams it into the ground twice. The first slam will be immediate, while the follow-up slam will have a short wind-up. Players can move left and circle towards the boss's rear to avoid both slams. Then, as Straghess winds up the second hit, players can stay behind it and punish it during its slow recovery.
Five-Hit Staff Combo
Straghess drags its staff and unleashes five rapid swings. To avoid the initial swing, players can hug Straghess's right side and dodge roll toward the boss to reach the boss's back, which is a safe position. For the remaining attacks, players should maintain distance until the final sweeping strike, which can be avoided by rolling towards Straghess. Once the combo ends, the boss will kneel, giving players a large window to attack several times.
Overhead Sweeps (Phase 2)
The Traitorous Straghess rushes forward a few steps, then performs two overhead sweeps that cover a wide area. Players can dodge roll towards Straghess with each swing to stay on its side, allowing them to land a few hits after the attack.
Rotting Staff Grab (Phase 2)
Straghess repeats its Staff Grab, but will now inflict
Scarlet Rot on nearby players. Players can dodge roll forward toward the boss during the initial slam to get behind it, avoiding the damage and the
Scarlet Rot buildup from the drag. Players may then punish the boss from behind as it finishes the attack.
Flesh Explosion (Phase 2)
The Traitorous Straghess's left hand glows before it creates a flesh sphere and slams it down, causing a large explosion. When players see the boss's left hand glowing, they should sprint away to escape the blast radius or time the dodge roll as the flesh hits the ground. If Straghess is staggered as it channels the attack, the entire sequence is cancelled, and players can punish the boss as it gets back up.
Exploding Fissures (Phase 2)
The Traitorous Straghess's staff glows before it slams the ground three times, generating fissures that go straight outward. After a short delay, the fissures will explode, damaging players caught standing in their area. When the staff glows, players should back away and dodge sideways each time Straghess slams the ground. Players should stay clear of the fissures until they erupt. When the sequence ends, the boss will have a long recovery animation, allowing players to safely attack it for a few times.
Three-Hit Combo (Phase 2)
The Traitorous Straghess swings its staff twice, then slams it down. Players can dodge roll toward the boss during each swing to stay close and reposition behind it. If players position themselves behind the boss during the first two swings, the slam will be avoided, allowing players to easily counterattack while the attack is on-going and as Straghess recovers.
Pools of Blood (Phase 2)
The Traitorous Straghess summons a flesh sphere that explodes, leaving blood pools that occasionally erupt and summon Putrid Corpses. When the left hand glows, players should move away from Straghess to avoid the blast zone. Players should also avoid stepping on the blood pools at all times, as the eruption will damage them. The Putrid Corpses should be cleared whenever players pass by them, as these can slow players down or inflict
Scarlet Rot.
Blood Sphere (Phase 2)
The Traitorous Straghess forms a flesh sphere that inflicts
Scarlet Rot on nearby players before throwing it, causing a small explosion on impact. Players should sprint away as soon as Straghess channels the attack and to avoid being inflicted with Scarlet Rot, then dodge towards Straghess to attack it as the projectile is thrown.
Jumping Slash (Phase 3)
Pure Impulse Straghess jumps in the air, then slashes its staff vertically onto the ground. Players can evade the attack by running behind Straghess as soon as it jumps, or by timing the attack with a dodge roll. Players can then punish the miss by attacking quickly, as Straghess will recover fast.
Three-Hit Combo (Phase 3)
Pure Impulse Straghess will quickly swipe its staff in front of it in two quick successions, then shoulder tackles in front of it for the follow-up attack. When Straghess performs the first part of the attack, players can dodge roll towards the boss to reach its back, which also allows the players to avoid the follow-up tackle. Players may then attack Straghess a few times before it moves away.
Five-Hit Flurry (Phase 3)
Pure Impulse Straghess will distance itself from the player, immediately sprint back, and then swipe its staff across and slam the ground with it. It will then lunge in front of it, swing the staff around, and then end with a ground slam. When Straghess retreats, players should approach it and dodge roll towards its back as it performs the initial attack. Players should then stick behind it as it performs the following attacks, as the area behind it will be safe. Players may then retaliate by attacking it a few times before it recovers.
Rampaging Combo (Phase 3)
Pure Impulse Straghess lowers its stance, roars, then jumps up and performs a wild combination of attacks in quick succession, then slams the ground while generating explosive pools of blood. When Straghess lowers its stance, players should either run away from it or try to stick to its rear, as the boss will move erratically and be difficult to track. When Straghess performs the final attack, players may time a dodge roll towards the boss, as it will allow them to retaliate as Straghess finishes the attack sequence. When retaliating for this attack, players are highly recommended to perform heavy attacks to attempt staggering the boss and allowing for more damage.
Flesh Sling (Phase 3)
Pure Impulse Straghess's left arm glows, quickly slings small pieces of flesh at the player while running around. When Straghess's left arm glows while moving, players should be ready to dodge roll towards the boss as it slings flesh, allowing them to safely attack the boss for a hit or two.
Pillars of Flesh (Phase 3)
When Pure Impulse Straghess is at around 50% health, it will roar, summoning multiple pillars of flesh around the battlefield. Straghess will then jump on the pillars and slam an imbued flesh sphere onto the ground, generating a large explosion that destroys all pillars and damages all players caught in the explosion. Players can dodge the explosion by timing the dodge roll upon impact, or by using skills such as the Wings of Salvation to avoid the blast radius.
Flesh Eruption (Phase 4)
Pure Impulse Straghess channels briefly, then slams a glowing sphere of flesh onto the ground, generating several eruptions of
Scarlet Rot around it. Straghess then slams it one more time, generating more eruptions. Players can dodge this attack by dodge rolling through the slams, then stepping away from the zones that light up to avoid getting damaged and build-up of
Scarlet Rot.

Anonymous"okay so we cooked up an S tier boss so far, what else should we add to it"
"uhhhhh what about 50 adds that can grab you, 2 wormfaces, and random exploding geysers"
AnonymousSuch a cool fight. Sadly, I cannot practice him solo like I do with the other bosses because Artorias keeps gatekeeping... I'm sorry my king, Straghess

AnonymousI hate all those instant quick attacks that one-shot you, it feels so cheap and unfair. He jumps to a pillar and wait, there are no wind-up and next second you are dead... If it would not do a trillion damage, it would be less annoying, but as it is, it's just complete bs.

AnonymousI know heolstor was cheesing hard asl when he opened that rift to the dreglord's arena and stole its rot

in phase 4 the gigantic rot nuke bomb explosion is delayed because it's synced (or supposed to be) with the music, he slams it down with the first note and then it blows up with the second one each time

AnonymousSomehow it's been several months and I still see people get clipped by the super meat bomb attack in phase 4 when it's the most untheatening attack in the dreglord's moveset when you know the timing. Get close to it when it starts roaring, you can also land some free hits to trigger any successive attack buffs you might have. When it slams the meatball into the ground, dodge right after the slam, not when it slams. When it does it again, dodge after. Think of it like a time bomb, the explosions is slightly delayed. Try to stay as close to it as you can, even right up in its face is fine, because you want to avoid the ground explosions it leaves behind

Anonymousfromsoft higher ups got mad that the boss was actually good so they forced them to add 1000 trash mobs, geysers, and pillars that oneshot you

Anonymousthe name straghess is from the latin word 'strages', meaning slaughter or massacre.

Anonymoustiny fun fact, the sound effect used when he screams in phase 2 sound original, but are also used in the base game: shaman meatballs screams, which only happen in the lamenter gaol. the scream sound is much clearer if you port straghess to the base game btw, cause in nightreign there's other sounds used for his screams for added impact.

AnonymousOne thing to note about that move he does on 50% HP (as pure impulse): you can actually interrupt his second ground slam. So basically, once you see him readying to land, prepare to use whatever interrupt you have (wylder ult, ironeye ult, or even a fully charged raider retaliate) and he'll be staggered out of the second slam.

AnonymousWhy we dont get the image screen with dialogue after we defeated him a second time, its kinda nice.

AnonymousIf you listen closely his ost during the last phase, right after the last large explosive meatball he does when he’s at low HP, the music loops halfway through the forth phase’s section until the end of the fight. This means that, when he makes scarlet rot rain from the sky one last time, it’s unironically a fifth phase.
Noticed this while dancing with him at my first deep of night 4 expedition lol.
AnonymousProbably the highest compliment I can give Strag is that he doesn't feel like an ER boss, he feels like a DS3/Bloodborne fight.
He's aggressive and chaotic, but not to the point of being overwhelming or frustrating. There's no annoying 12+ hit combos or slo-mo button ass windups, almost every part in his moveset feels intuitive and designed so that you''ll probably be able figure out how to dodge all of it on just your first or second attempts.
AnonymousIt seems a lot of people don't know this by now but in his 4th phase when he jumps into the air and uses the dreg nuke dodge right after he lands, not as he does. For the second slam again dodge right after he does it.

AnonymousIf you have a Duchess/Recluse/Revenant, Rykard's rancor is absolutely a must pick against this guy. Just spam it a few times and watch his HP melting faster than a butter in the Sahara Desert at 12 PM. Works especially well when you have Scholar/Ironeye with you

Anonymous
AnonymousEverdark Dreglord when? If we do get it they're probably going to rename it like they did with the Balancers cause I can't imagine a "Salvation's Standard-Bearer" Dreglord since it doesn't wield a battle standard (even thought the balancers don't either but their spears, halberds, and hammer are close enough) and it has nothing to do with salvation. That also probably explains why they have yet to release the soundtrack, cause the Traitorous Straghess' track will include the everdark segment like the base nightlords. But that doesn't make sense since Heolstor's imaginary everdark segment isn't there, unless it's going to be its own track. I'm huffing ridiculous amounts of copium

AnonymousGuardian ability can deflect the flesh sphere he throws, found it out when I saw a Guardian I was with send it to space with his whirlwind. Also if any rot zombie gets touched by the tornado of liquid rot (the move he does before the huge aoe explosion that causes rot rain), it buffs his attack for each one, and stacks up to 8. Ideally one person like the Scholar should use his art when they all start spawning in to reduce the attack increase

AnonymousI swear they made everything weak to Holy damage in both SOTE and Nightreign

AnonymousWhy doesn’t he just team up with the nightfarers to kill Heolstor, is he stupid?

AnonymousHate to break it to you guys but I don't think Straghess or Heolster will ever get an Everdark. Why? Well, people have already released the full OSTs from the game. Every single Nightlord has their Phase 1, 2, and Everdark Phase 2 in one track, but neither Heolster and Straghess have more than 2 phases, only Straghess has 4 since he technically has 4 phase

AnonymousI want to measure the % of the boss battle time that you spend on attacking him, because once he hits phase 3, 90% of the time you either dodge or run to him. (Ironeyes excluded, lucky mf'ers)

AnonymousPlease chill out with the 1shot, instant AOEs please. Thanks.

AnonymousPeople who say this guy gets random attack buffs are wrong.
He gets an attack buff for every enemy he absorbs? You know those putrid corpses and the occasional wormface that stumbles around? Kill them if they're around him. Every so often, Straghess will do the rot pool vortex thing (the one where he creates the rotball). If any enemies are caught in the radius of the rot pool, they'll be absorbed into him and power him up. Not only is this pretty horrifying, but the buffs can stack multiplicatively. It's not as insane as Everdark Gladius, luckily, but if you don't do a good job of clearing out the rot zombies and he does the vortex, play like its DoN D5 because it will HURT.
Also, the micro stagger he does every so often? It's actually not based on damage or knockback. It's based on your ult charge. For those who don't know, everytime you hit an enemy, you build up your ult charge (duh). For every 10% of your ult meter (base, no relics or auto-charge buffs), he'll stagger. That means that's a guarenteed 10 staggers per fight, though you'll obviously never reach this since he'll die before you hit 6-7 staggers, on top of this being universal. You can contribute 9% and then your Ironeye can do the last 1% and it'll still stagger him
AnonymousOk so I just found this bastard can remove the rot immunity from the woods at the start of his 3rd phase, I hate this guy so much

Anonymousaside from the rot buildup, does it deal only physical damage?

AnonymousBefore I beat him: undodgeable random bs AOE spam with 6 billion health I hate this guy
After beating him: ahh yes, fromsoft you did it again, absolute peak design and OST

IMO, the health for his first healthbar should be a bit lower. Feels a bit much, but that's just me.

AnonymousLove this boss. Kinda hate how janky the 2nd phase pillar jumps are though. I was playing duo, and it was targeting my friend with the leap attack, so I took a moment to heal, but then it hit my friend and made a hard 60° turn right into my face.

Anonymous
AnonymousOne thing I noticed is that if you have the Scarlet Rot map and blessing, during his Phase 3 and 4 you lose the immunity to Scarlet Rot. Annoying, but fun at the same time

Anonymous
AnonymousFinal boss of main game: very aspect of the night and darkness, holding a special tie possibly to the powers of the elden ring
Final boss of dlc: stinky boi
AnonymousBut guys you dont understand it doesnt matter that the fight plays like dogwater, its cinema and the ost is peak

AnonymousHas anyone experienced the Dreglord dying after the first health bar instead of after both health bars? I searched it up and saw either one or two videos of this to occurring to other people, though I can't seem to find an explanation other then a bug/glitch. I'm curious if it was indeed a bug or glitch, or if there was some special condition set in place.

AnonymousBest boss in the game by a long margin
He has a lot of health but he's honestly pretty easy; he staggers consistently without needing a certain status/element, most of his big moves you can dodge easy just by watching the giant rot ball of doom, and most of all he stays near you and you don't have to chase him half way around the map.
And great soundtrack. Actually looking foward to fighting him more. Maybe even in depths
Anonymous
Anonymousi can't believe it
balancers: takes me 15 tries to defeat solo, counting tries with randoms
straghess: solo first try, went near death only once.
i just suck at ganks i guess....
AnonymousSped up maliketh/gael with rot and ads. Kinda uninspired, the music is doing a lot of the heavy lifting.
I was expecting something a bit more unique after watching the trailer.
It's yet another desert hobo.
Anonymous"This obsessive mound of flesh, unlike any form of life ever to exist, has no obvious weakness." Just kill it with fire or purge the hell out of it

Anonymoushavent fought it properly yet but it kinda looked like a dragonkin during the fight where you're supposed to lose lmao

AnonymousPeople calling it bullshit and talking about impossible to dodge AoE need to chill out lmao
The DLC was released a dew days ago : I think it's a good thing that the fight needs some time to master, but I'm pretty sure everybody will soon get used to his movesets and we will find out that all of his attacks are perfectly dodgeable (like every other boss that was called bullshit before him :) )
It's a great fight, very cinematic, tense, and so rewarding when you win !
Anonymousprotip for the big brained: use the rotted woods shifting earth. Fought them once without it and it was horrible, fought them with the rot immunity and it was pretty ok

AnonymousI do think it's pretty ridiculous that the Rotting Woods buff gets removed during this fight. The Mountain buff never got removed while fighting Caligo or Everdark Caligo, so why does this one? Boss can still one or two shot you even with the buff....
I feel like they should allow the buff to remain throughout the fight, in order to help players who struggle to beat him. And all of the super pro gamers who want a hard challenge can just do the fight without the buff if they so choose.
AnonymousManaged to finally beat him while playing as Ironeye in a team of 3. We used the Rotting Woods buff and it allowed us to keep the immunity for some reason until we pushed him into his second phase/form (second health bar). Might have been a bug, but it helped out a ton with allowing us to preserve flasks for the second half of the fight (which we desperately needed).
Overall, I feel like this fight is a bit overtuned. Several of his attacks are pretty ridiculous (especially all of his AoE stuff) and I feel like the only real strategy to beat him is to just get lucky with your perk/weapon drops in the run leading up to him (me and my teammates each managed to get at least 2-3 +HP regen while poisoned or rotted perks during our successful run, which I don't think we would have been able to win this fight without). I'm already dreading the idea of attempting him again on Scholar for his remembrance questline. I may just not bother finishing that one out, lol.
AnonymousMy biggest problem with bosses in this game is the absolute garbage way in which AOE damage is handled. Sometimes the effects are barely visible.
The hitboxes are absurd, sometimes you're out of the textured area and you think you're good and nope you were still inside the hitbox and now you're dead.
Visual queues are not enough to dodge these AoE nukes, you gotta have a feeling to them and that's just terrible.
Needles to say I'm not a fan of arena wide 360° AoE which this fight is FULL OFF.
Anonymousdoes anyone know why or how does he get debuffed , is it like based on his hp that he'll get auto debuff whever he's at a certain threshold, thats what it feels like to me

Anonymous6/10.
Too much BS sorry, I miss fighting a boss one on one without so much trash in between.
Also his torpedo attacks are straight garbage design, it even looks silly doing it, like a ping pong ball zipping around.
Anonymous
Anonymous
AnonymousWon't lie, he lost some credibility when he started zipping from pillar to pillar. Dragged things out and looked a bit silly XD Fromsoft have a bit of an Achilles heel for bosses you spend half the fight chasing around the arena. That and his huge health pool made the second half of the fight a bit tedious. Other than that, fun battle!

AnonymousI believe they are the second chunkiest boss in the game at least for trios, the first being ED Maris. I tried to calculate their HP using the health bar, im pretty sure they have a total of around 80 to 85K HP as a whole (40 something HP in each of the two parts of the boss fight). With no single weakness over 25%, no wonder they take so long to kill. Correct me if im wrong btw
