Upgrades for Nightreign covers details on how players can enhance their arsenal. The system follows a similar structure to previous games, where players can upgrade Weapons, Shields, and Sacred Flasks by collecting specific Upgrade Materials. During the network test, the Upgrade Materials are limited to Smithing Stones. Smithing Stones are used to upgrade Armaments (Weapons) obtained during player expeditions. It is not yet confirmed whether Ashes of War will be in the game, which can modify the Skills and Affinities of armaments. However, they are not classified as traditional upgrades. This page will offer further information as more details become available.

Elden Ring Nightreign Upgrades Guide

How Do Upgrades Work in Elden Ring Nightreign?

In Nightreign, upgrades are done using the Strengthen Armament menu which can be accessed by going to a Smithing Table or Strengthening Anvil. Players can use Smithing Stones to strengthen armaments. Each Smithing Stone upgrades an armament (weapon) by one level.

  • Smithing Stone 1: Upgrades Common Armaments into Uncommon Armaments.
  • Smithing Stone 2: Upgrade Uncommon Armaments into Rare Armaments.

The Upgrade System in Nightreign is a simplified version of the original game. There are only 2 Upgrade Materials that players can find and purchase from Merchants. Merchants can be found within Townships and can be seen sitting by a campfire.

Where to Find Anvils in Nightreign

In Limveld, players may find anvils placed beside merchants who can be found beside campfires. This allows players to purchase Smithing Stones and upgrade weapons they find along the way to prepare for upcoming battles.

Another location is in the Spirit Shelter, right before the walkway to the large double doors, players can find a Grace on the right, a Merchant on the left, and an anvil right next to him. This allows players to make their final preparations before facing the Night Lord.

How to Use a Smithing Table in Nightreign?

Simply approach and interact with a smithing table, choose the weapon you wish to upgrade and the material you wish to use to upgrade it. Each smithing stone will only upgrade the armament by one level.

Players can use the smithing tables as much as they please as long as they have the required materials for it. However, players are only allowed to use the Special Smithing table once throughout their expedition. So they will need to manage their weapons by carefully thinking which ones they wish to keep when finding new weapons, and which one they wish to upgrade within the weapons they chose to keep.

During an expedition, players can level up their Nightfarer by simply passing through the Site of Grace. To do so, players are required to accumulate Runes by defeating mobs and bosses in the various areas of Limveld. When passing through a Site of Grace, not only will it level up the Nightfarer, but also replenish the characters' HPFP, and Flask charge.

so basically, purple is the highest tier weapon you can get through upgrades, to get yellow you need defeating the Magma Wyrm in the crater map right? that the only way? i has never see a ancient somber stone befor, how can i get that?

Had a random Executor drop an orange version of the stone before the Nightlord fight today, never seen it before so I think it might be a cheated item. We had the mountain Shifting Earth event and killed the ice dragon - could it be one of the rewards for killing it?

I'm pretty sure I also saw him ending his Ultimate Art with the golden claw attack and then when the boss died right after he activated the Art the second time so I'm leaning toward cheating.

Just to help out with the ancient dragon spawn location I believe it's in a very top left of the map in the evergaol.... Upon defeating you will master legendary armaments and receive a location on your map that shows where the ancient dragon smithing Stone has spawned there is only one per session it seems

Just in case anyone reads this I play tested for 18 hours over the private network test and I found an ancient dragon locked away in one of the evergaols this I'm assuming is a rare encounter because it only happened once compared to the amount of God's skin nobles and Erdtree knights. Upon defeating the ancient dragon the text prompt in the bottom right hand corner of the screen said Mastered Legendary Armaments... I was hoping it would drop the legendary dragon smithing Stone but it did not. So maybe there's one dragon smithing stone hidden on the map somewhere either way I hope this helps
