What is Elden Ring Nightreign?

Elden Ring Nightreign is a three-player co-op roguelike set in an alternate version of the world from Elden Ring. It offers a turbocharged reinterpretation of the combat mechanics from From Software's previous titles, blending fast-paced exploration with challenging combat, boss fights, and randomization elements.

Can I play Elden Ring Nightreign solo?

Yes, you can play Nightreign solo, but the game is designed around co-op gameplay, where you can team up with two other players. You can play with random players or with friends using a password system.

Can I customize my character in Elden Ring Nightreign?

No, Nightreign does not feature a character creator. Players will select from eight predefined characters, each with unique abilities and playstyles.

At the start of the game, each one of the eight Heroes has a pre-determined look. As you advance, they can differ only by the different Armor and Weapons they equip.

Are Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin involved in Elden Ring Nightreign?

Elden Ring Nightreign is being directed by Junya Ishizaki, who has previously worked as Dark Souls level designer, Bloodborne/Dark Souls 3/Elden Ring combat designer. The original concept was pitched to Hidetaka Miyazaki, and he provided initial input on it, but then gave full creative control to Ishizaki.

George R.R. Martin, the renowned writer of the fantasy-novel series A Song of Ice and Fire, and who was in charge of the world building for Elden Ring, is not involved in Nightreign.

How Does Nightreign differ from Elden Ring?

While Elden Ring is a large open-world RPG, Nightreign shifts gears into a faster-paced roguelike. The game is much more focused on cooperative combat, exploration, and boss hunts in a time-constrained environment. The combat is still rooted in the familiar mechanics from Elden Ring and other From Software titles but is sped up, with more emphasis on constant movement, quick battles, and randomized loot.

Will Elden Ring Nightreign be free to play?

No, Nightreign will be a premium-priced game, similar to Elden Ring's expansion Shadow of the Erdtree. It is expected to cost around $40, but this price is not yet confirmed.

The game is standalone and does not require ownership of the original Elden Ring to be played.

Is Elden Ring Nightreign a Battle Royale?

Elden Ring Nightreign borrows some mechanics from battle royale titles, such as the dangerous shrinking ring zone to a focal point as you play, but there are no PVP elements in Nightreign. You cannot fight against other players.

So for example, the shrinking zone mechanic, is used to limit the time players have at their disposal to level up, before heading to the corresponding boss battle.

Do I Need to Own Elden Ring to Play Nightreign?

No, Nightreign is a stand-alone premium-priced game, it is not Free-to-Play, and players do not need to have the base game, Elden Ring, to play Nightreign.
