How to Unlock Duchess & Revenant in Nightreign
How to Unlock Duchess in Nightreign
Here's a quick guide on how to unlock the Duchess in ER Nightreign:

- Start the Tricephalos expedition.
- You must survive the days and reach the Night Lord and beat it to obtain the Old Pocketwatch.
- NOTE: The watch should be a guaranteed drop when you defeat Gladius for the first time.
- If you fail in attempting to slay Gladius, the Old Pocketwatch may still be acquired as a random reward.
- Once you have the item, find the Priestess at the Roundtable Hold, and show her the pocketwatch.
- Giving the item will trigger a cutscene that involves a fascinating reveal.
- After giving the Old Pocketwatch, the Duchess will be added to the list of playable Nightfarers.
How to Unlock Revenant in Nightreign
Here's a quick guide on how to unlock the Revenant in ER Nightreign:

- NOTE: To start the process of unlocking Revenant, players must first unlock the Duchess
- At the Roundtable Hold, head to the Small Jar Bazaar and purchase the item Besmirched Frame for 1500 Murk. Once you have the item, open your map, and you'll see a new exclamation mark that's pinned next to a character icon near the sparring grounds of the Roundtable Hold.
- When you approach this marked area, you'll spot a ghostly figure that you can interact with. Doing so will trigger a gameplay section where you will have to fight the Revenant and her summons. We highly recommend fighting this boss as Wylder, since it can be challenging to fight her if you play classes with low HP, such as Duchess or Recluse.
- The strategy that we have found best to win this battle is to focus the Revenant, run around and away to lure her summons further, while also dodging her incantations. The Revenant does not have that much health, so you can deal significant damage two-handing your weapon or using the weapon's skill. If this strategy does not work for you, you can opt. to fight her summons first and maintain good positioning so Sebastian doesn't hit you hit his powerful ultimate attack.
- Once you've defeated Revenant and her summons, you'll unlock her and get to play as her immediately by selecting her in the Roundtable Hold. Apart from unlocking her, you can also start her personal quest, the Revenant Remembrance. This remembrance is straightforward; you simply begin it from the journal and talk to the Guardian, but he will then immediately task you with defeating a Nightlord, which can be daunting when you first start. Completing her remembrance quest rewards players with unique chalices, relics, and grabs for the Revenant.
Shifting Earth Secrets in Nightreign
Shifting Earth are expedition modifiers that affect the geography, boss and enemy spawns, challenges, and a secret that poses an opportunity to gain unique rewards. The shift is caused by defeating Nightlords or the boss that appears at the end of a run on the third day. Shifting Earth modifiers will persist for some time, and the conditions will be restored to normal after conducting several expeditions or passing some time at the Roundtable Hold. You may also use the bed to pass the time if you're not up for the challenge of these modifiers. There are 4 Shifting Earth modifiers in Nightreign:
- The Crater: Upgrade weapon to Legendary instantly
- The Mountaintop: Get a unique buff Favor of the Mountaintop, which reduces frostbite damage and frost buildup.
- Rotted Woods: Nullifies scarlet rot and increases max HP. Attacks after receiving damage partially recover HP
- Noklateo, The Shrouded City: Recover from death a single time unaided, and become more powerful for a short time.
How to Find The Crater Secret in Nightreign

Rewards: Special Smithing Table - Special Armament Strengthening - Upgrades 1 armament to maximum level (Legendary Ascension)
Landscape changes: A giant crater will appear in the northern section of the map, with pools, rivers, and waterfalls of lava flowing in the area. The area is accessible by traversing from one side to the other, where you see a large opening at the bottom. This area will open up to an underground temple, with a boss guarding the secret of The Crater that lets you upgrade your weapon to Legendary.
Fixed Boss: Defeating Magma Wyrm unlocks Special Smithing Table.
Achievement or Trophy:
Using the Special Smithing Table after defeating the Magma Wyrm also unlocks an achievement called The Crater.
To enter the Crater, travel to the eastern side of the map. Look for a large pillar connecting the field to a mountainside. Go to the area below it and walk slightly to the right, and locate the opening where you see lava flowing in the distance. The Demi-Human Queen may appear near this area, and it's optional if you want to defeat her. Proceed to the lower area towards the southwest, into the open field where you see multiple lava waterfalls.
Go to the structure on the right side, and fight enemies along the hallway. You can explore this hallway until the end, but if you are pressed for time, you can cut it short and jump down to continue exploring. In this lower level, go to the other end of this hallway to cross the bridge facing northeast. This bridge will take you to the other side, going to the boss room of The Crater.
Follow the hallway, then turn left. You may encounter the Fire Prelates near the boss fog. Go past the fog, then turn right to continue exploring. You may find a couple of Flame Chariots on this side. You can quickly defeat these enemies by jumping twice, then pressing light attack, to land on top and quickly take them out. At the end of this path, turn right, and then left. Continue straight ahead, and when you reach the area where the floor is partly destroyed, jump down to the small bonfire. From here, you need to carefully jump between platforms, going northeast to reach the boss location.
You will encounter the Magma Wyrm at the bottom of The Crater in a hidden area that resembles an ancient underground temple. The Magma Wyrm will appear along the path as you approach the altar in the middle. After the fight, go to the altar to use the Special Smithing Table.
To exit this area, face opposite the smithing table, then go towards the Spectral Hawk Tree on the right side.
Discover the Mountaintop Secret

Rewards:
- Favor of the Mountaintop - Halves frostbite damage and frost buildup. Nearby frostbite boosts attack; acquired by interacting with the blue crystals at the top of the region.
Landscape changes: The northwestern section of the map will be transformed into a snowy terrain with mountains reaching as high as the skies. There are several Spiritstreams in the area that you can use to move to the next level, where you will encounter different enemies and bosses. As you get closer to the center, a loud shriek can be heard echoing throughout the location.
Fixed Boss: Defeat the Mountaintop Ice Dragon to get Dormant Power
Achievement or Trophy:
Interacting with the blue crystals also unlocks an achievement called Mountaintop.
One of the ways to reach The Mountaintop is to go to the area east of the crevice. Look for the nearest evergaol and Site of Grace, then walk towards the cliff facing west. Use the Spectral Hawk and let it take you to The Mountaintop. You can encounter Snowfield Trolls along with a Giant Dog on this level. From here, head west towards the Spiritsteam to go to the upper area. There are no Spiritstreams on this level, but instead, you will spam the double jump to get to the next area. You can find this spot by facing the north side, and you'll see some faint golden carvings on the mountain wall.
On the next level, you may get a glimpse of the large chains. Head north and jump down to the lower level. This path allows you to bypass the Flying Dragon that you will typically encounter, which is useful when you are pressed for time. As you jump down, you will hear a shriek echoing throughout the mountain. After landing, continue north and go through the narrow path. Go to the right side and turn around the mountain wall.
From here, face northwest and look for the faint golden carvings on the mountain. Use this as your guide to spam double jump where you will encounter the Giant Crows. You can run past this enemy to cross the giant chain to get the Favor of the Mountaintop buff. This reduces frostbite damage and frost buildup by 50% and boosts attack when near frostbite. This is an important buff that you will need if you want to defeat the boss in this area.
From here, you have to start over again and jump down to the crevice on the eastern side. You can quickly enter the nearby cave or head straight to the Spiriststream in the southwest. Follow the same path as before until you see the large chain from before. Instead of going left, look for the faint golden marks on the mountain wall facing northeast, then spam the double jump to get to the top. The wind gusts will get stronger as you get closer to the boss area.
The Mountaintop Ice Dragon rests here, although it is not recommended to fight them until after you receive the favor as their arena constantly builds up frostbite. They can drop some decent loot, so fighting them may be recommended if you have time.
Discover the Favor of the Rotted Woods

Landscape changes: The southeastern region of Limveld will be transformed into a land ravaged by the Scarlet Rot, affecting its geography, enemies, and boss spawns. A fort found further southwest holds the map to various secrets in the area, including the Favor of the Forest, Field Bosses, and nearby Scarabs. The biggest change that will take place is the danger of the Scarlet Rot, which builds up over time spent in this region, but can be nullified through a plant unique to this region. The location of the secret will change per run, so it's important to grab the map first before you search the forest.
Provides an area swarming with bosses and a good location to obtain a weapon with Scarlet Rot effects. This area is ideally explored on Day 2 around Level 7+
Possible Bosses and Enemies: Black Blade Kindred, Lordsworn Captain,
Rewards: Favor of the Forest - Nullifies scarlet rot and increases max HP. Attacks after receiving damage partially recover HP
Achievement or Trophy:
Interacting with the red flower also unlocks an achievement called Rotted Woods.
One of the ways to enter the Rotted Woods is by going through the path in the southern region. You will immediately notice the change in the atmosphere as the sky and forest turn a light shade of red. Your first objective is to reach the lone Fort further southwest, indicated on the map by a red mark. There are no nearby Spiritstreams in this region, and your goal is to go through or past many dangerous bosses and enemies to the top of the Fort to reach the tower. Inside the tower, you can interact with the map to reveal location of the secret, nearby Teardrop Scarabs, and any nearby Field Bosses.
Go to the newly marked location on your map, which will take a bit of a walk through the woods infected with Scarlet Rot. It's best to try and get to the location before the Scarlet Rot activates, or it will eat away a portion of your health. Keep in mind that many trees around this area have plants around their trunks that heal scarlet rot. Upon reaching the secret, interact with the red flower atop a large tree to obtain the Favor of the Rotted Woods. This favor grants a buff that nullifies the effects of Scarlet Rot, increases max HP, and allows you to partially recover HP after receiving damage, similar to the unique passive effect of the Hand of Malenia katana.
Discover the Secret of Noklateo

Landscape changes: The southwestern region of Limveld will transform into a huge structure covering this area with massive walls that prevent anyone from getting inside. The entrance to the structure can be found at the center, with two grand stairs enveloping the stream of water in the middle. The area will also feature an underground location accessible by dropping down a small hole leading to a sewer level. Above the city are also accessible rooftops and large bridges containing loot. Noklateo will feature multiple bosses, and upon defeating the location's boss you will gain access to a sealed area behind it.
Possible Bosses and Enemies: Basilisk, Lesser Black Knife Assassin, Black Knife Assassin, Headless Troll, Astel Naturalborn of the Void
Rewards: Favor of Noklateo, the Shrouded City - Rise from near-death, unaided, a single time, and become more powerful for a short time
Achievement or Trophy:
Interacting with the chest inside the sealed room also unlocks an achievement called Noklateo, the Shrouded City.
To find the entrance, go to the center of Noklateo, right across the southwest of Limveld. The path will be split into two grand staircases with a small waterfall in the middle. If you are pressed for time, take the staircase to the left, then follow this path, and keep to the left. You may come across an enemy that will throw boulders at you. Go inside the small room to the right, just in front of this enemy, then drop down the hole to reach the underground or sewer area. This level is just as massive as above, but the path is straightforward and leaves very small room to get lost.
At the end of this sewer section, use the Spiritstream, and take the stairs to head west. This will take you to a section of stairs going up where you may encounter the Black Knife Assassin, and its lesser version. Continue to head up the stairs, and this time, you'll be facing north towards the gazebo. This area is guarded by the Headless Troll, but you can run away from it if you are pressed for time.
From the gazebo, head up the grand staircase toward the southwest. You will enter a large arena where you will fight the Naturalborn of the Void. This is a powerful boss that can easily take out even those at Level 10, so preparation is needed. It is recommended to fight this boss on the 2nd Day of the expedition, so you have better equipment and a higher level. Shortly after the fight, you will receive a notification saying, "A place once sealed is now open". This refers to a small room inside the arena in the southwestern side, which contains the Favor of Noklateo, the Shrouded City, a buff that grants you the ability to rise from near-death, unaided, a single time, and become more powerful for a short time.
How to Open Mage Towers in Nightreign
Mage Towers or Sorcerer's Rise have 2 common styles in Nightreign. The first one is the closed style, where the Magic Barrier is completely blocking the entrance to the base of the tower. The second is the open style, wherein the base of the tower is open, but access to the top is prohibited. Depending on the style of the tower, this will indicate where to start looking for the magic seals to get to the top of the tower. To open the Mage Tower puzzle, you need to determine its type so you can begin looking for the magic seals:
- Closed Style - You will find the magic barrier outside the tower, in the nearby areas. For example, trees, lakes, walls, etc.
- Open Style - You will find the magic barrier inside the tower.
- Special Ruined Towers - These are special Sorcerer's Rises that will have multiple seals that can detonate when broken.

Possible Seals Outside the Mage Tower
- Above the Front Door - The crest will appear right above the front door. You can shoot it with a ranged weapon, or scale the wall by spamming jump to break it.
- Dead Trees - A group of trees will spawn on the left side of the tower. Dispel the illusion by attacking it to reveal the crest and unlock the entrance.
- Fake Door - A simple seal that lets you inside the tower if you run through the barrier. This door will not have the same crest as the others, which indicates that it's a fake.
- Fake Shack - Go around the tower and look for an extra piece of a small structure protruding from the tower. Attack it to reveal the crest and unlock the entrance.
- Podium - A small piece of furniture will appear next to the steps of the tower. Break it to reveal the crest and unlock the entrance.
- Pond - On the right side of the tower, you will find a pond that may reveal the invisible crest's location. Look for the crest and jump above it to break the invisible crest.
- Running Tree Stump - One of the more obscure seals is the running Dead Trunk. You may discover that there's a dead trunk running near the tower. Attack it to dispel the illusion and unlock the entrance.
- Trembling Trees - On the left side of the tower, look for trees trembling and shaking erratically. Run through the center of these trees to destroy the crest.
- [Special Ruined Tower] - Behind the tower, it may detonate when destroyed.
- [Special Ruined Tower] - Behind the tower, above the pond area; may detonate when destroyed.
Possible Seals Inside the Mage Tower
- Candle by the Door - Upon entering, look at the pillar next to the door and see if it's lit or extinguished. If it's extinguished, then it means the crest is hidden there. Attack it, or spam jump to reveal the crest.
- Illusory Wall - If you notice that the candle lights are lit, then check the statues on the wall. There should be 2 statues on each side of the crystals. If you don't see them, then try hitting them to reveal the crest.
- [Special Ruined Tower] - Inside the tower, on the second floor. Spam jumps to get to the next level; it may detonate when destroyed.
Hidden Vault
Rarely, slightly northeast of the Castle, you may stumble across a locked door. This is the vault, and it cannot be opened until you find a consumable item called the Cord End.
The Cord End can be found randomly within the crates in a Church during your expedition. The church that the cord end is in is chosen randomly, and only a single one may be found during the expedition. It's sole purpose is to open the vault, which contains 3x Sacrificial Twigs, a talisman that prevents Rune and Level loss on death only once. This can be useful if you're planning on doing something risky and want a fallback, or if you're not confident in your ability to battle a certain boss. Alternatively, if you're already in the area and you have the cord end and a free talisman slot, you may want to pick it up simply to fill your talisman slot with something. It's not particularly recommended to make unlocking this vault a priority as there are many other things you could do instead that have a higher benefit to the run, such as searching for runes or better gear.
Anonymoushere is the most unknow secret : play raider instead of guadian.

AnonymousBeat Heolster with Wylder's Silver Tear equipped to get a fancy new relic.

To everyone stating that these are not secrets: Shifting earth grants achievements upon getting the favor from within them, these achievements have the description of "Found the secret of [location]". That's why the wiki is titled that. I'll add the cord end as well.

Anonymouslooks like lore isn't the only thing lacking in this game. i scrolled through this page and...where are the secrets? nothing currently on this page is a secret or hidden.

I really wish the shifting earth stuff would give some sort of permanent unlock. Complete the secret and get a permanent +1 to a weapon or main stat of a character.

AnonymousI beat revenant with ironeye if you go in the fight and trigger her summons use your mark ability on the page spam the page wth arrows then do the same to the troll and skeleton after this you can keep a distance and spam arrows on the revenant IF you have patience, you can also stay away from her then get just close enough to trigger her incantation and then back step shoot works everytime

AnonymousDoes anyone know what to do with the buried treasure icon? Or the statues that used to be broken by giants and golems

Interesting that some demigods can spawn on the players, assuming it's not just Morgott. Any great runes drop? Nope Wonder if the Nightlords are using them?... Maybe in this story this is what's become of them.

I got the platinum during the first month and I still can’t navigate nostekala. Getting to the main boss is straightforward but would it have killed them to spread some of that out a little?
