Elden Ring Nightreign Marauder Boss Guide

Marauder Fight Strategy

Melee Users

For this boss fight, players will be facing two Cuckoo Knights and one Godskin Apostle. The group will be sharing one health bar and is considered as the Marauder. The Cuckoo Knights are sturdy and slow bosses that use two weapon types along with a shield. This makes them sturdy and durable to fight against. This is the opposite of the Godskin Apostle, where it is quicker in nature and aggressive.

For solo melee users, your best course of action is to separate from each other so that you'll have three one-on-one duels instead of one-versus-three. We recommend aggroing the Godskin Apostle first and separating it from the Cuckoo Knights. If you wish to deal with the Cuckoo Knights first, the Godskin Apostle's aggressiveness may catch up to you, leading you back into a three-versus-one scenario. Once you're fighting the Godskin Apostle, you'll have to watch out for its moveset. One of its key moves is the Jumping Slash, where it suddenly leaps into the air and lands with a quick slash. This can look daunting at first, but you can easily counter this by sidestepping just before it lands. Additionally, you'll also have a brief period where you can land a clean melee hit. The rest of its moves are easier to deal with. You'll have to dodge sideways or backwards in order to avoid the incoming attacks. If it changes its stance into a stabbing grip, quickly roll backwards or try to circle him. This lets you avoid most of the stabs and grants you a window to land more clean hits.

When facing the Cuckoo Knights, it's a matter of patience and timing. The Cuckoo Knights are not as aggressive as the Godskin Apostle. You will, however, fight them most of the time in a two-versus-one scenario. It's important to be patient and to time your attacks properly. We recommend dealing the the spear wielder first as it possesses the Three Strike Thrust, where it lunges at you for three consecutive times. Generally, you can circle around the Cuckoo knights to hit them from behind and avoid their attacks.

Marauder Attacks & Counters

Cuckoo Knights

Normal Strike - Shared

Both the Spear wielder and the Sword bearer share the attack Normal Strike, where they use their weapon to strike you. This can easily be evaded by keeping your distance and dodging backward.

Shield Bash - Shared

Both the Spear wielder and the Sword bearer share the attack Shield Bash, where they utilize their shield and slam it across their enemies. This is a short-range attack that can be dodged by rolling. If the two knights are far apart, you can opt to roll to their side and sneak in a counter-attack.

Weapon Upgrade - Sword Wielder

The Sword Wielder imbues his weapon with magic to increase its damage. The Sword Wielder usually uses this after it spawns. Once cast, the magic-infused sword lasts until the sword wielder has been defeated.

Sword Strike - Sword Wielder

The Sword Wielder strikes you with his sword two consecutive times. One vertical slash and one horizontal slash. This can easily be avoided by rolling backwards.

Three Strike Thrust - Spear Wielder

The Three Strike Thrust has two variants. In the first variant, the spear wielder strikes you with three consecutive thrusts, allowing no time to counter-attack, while the second has two consecutive thrusts that will be followed up by a third thrust. Here, you'll have a brief period where you can sneak in a counter-attack

Magic Shot - Spear Wielder

The Spear Wielder raises his weapon and shoots a magic shot towards you. He'll then quickly follow up with a magic thrust after the shot. This can be evaded by dodging sideways since the magic shot follows a linear path.

Godskin Apostle

Double Spin Slash

The Godskin apostle spins in place with its extended sickle, dealing damage to everything around it. You can counter this by rolling towards the boss and moving slightly to the side during its first spin. You can then stay close behind him to chip away more of his health.

Sickle Stab

The Godskin Apostle uses its sickle to perform consecutive stabs using one hand. Players can backstep or roll backwards to avoid the stabbing range.

Jumping Slash

With a quick spinning animation, the Godskin Apostle jumps into the air and performs a wide horizontal slash as it lands. This can be countered by rolling to the side just before the Apostle descends.

Double Slash with Jumping Slash

This attack is a mixture of the double slash followed up by a jumping slash. The Godskin Apostle performs the usual double spinning slash, then immediately leaps up into the air to do a jumping slash. The standard evasion tactic will still work here, where players stay out of range of the first two slashes and roll sideways just before the Apostle lands.

Black Flame Charged Attack

The Apostle stays immobile for a while to charge up black flames. Once it's charged up, it will release a shockwave, followed up with a delayed explosion. Once the Apostle starts charging up, players should utilize this time to cover some distance away from the Apostle to avoid the shockwave and the explosion.
