Elden Ring Nightreign Cleanrot Knights Boss Guide

Cleanrot Knights Fight Strategy

The Cleanrot Knights are encountered as a paired enemy duo, each equipped with a distinct weapon that defines its combat style. One knight wields the Cleanrot Spear, relying on swift thrusts, while the other carries the Halo Scythe, utilizing wide-sweeping attacks. As the spear-wielding Cleanrot Knight attacks more quickly, it is highly recommended to eliminate this knight first before focusing on its slower, scythe-wielding counterpart.

Both knights make use of their signature weapon skills, Miquella's Ring of Light and the Sacred Phalanx, adding holy damage and ranged pressure to the mix. When either knight begins casting, players should be prepared to reposition, as these skills can catch stubborn players off guard if they remain too close or attempt to trade hits with the knights.

For most of the encounter, the Cleanrot Knights' melee attacks are straightforward, consisting of simple slashes, thrusts, or off-hand weapon strikes. They can easily be staggered, so players should exploit their weakness by focusing their attacks on one knight at a time, breaking their stance and securing hits. Players can also stick behind a targeted knight to not only be safe from their attacks, but to also deal critical hits to stagger them, making them vulnerable to attacks. Players should capitalize on the knights being easy to interrupt to make the fight significantly easy once the first Cleanrot Knight is defeated.

Cleanrot Knights Attacks & Counters

Weapon Bash

The Cleanrot Knight wielding a Cleanrot Spear crosses its spear and sword, then bashes the player with the blunt side of its weapons. Players may run to the side of the Cleanrot Knight to avoid the attack, as it tracks poorly. Players may also dodge roll backwards (defensive) or to the back of the knight (offensive) to counterattack.

Spear Guard

The Cleanrot Knight wielding a spear crosses its spear and sword, blocking attacks in front of it. As the Cleanrot Knight assumes a defensive stance, players should wait until the Cleanrot Knight finishes the guard, or strafe to its back to retaliate. Players can also use attacks with extremely high stamina damage, such as Kick or Wylder's ability Claw Shot to easily guard break the Cleanrot Knight, allowing for a critical attack.

Spear Grab

The Cleanrot Knight wielding a spear imbues its spear with purple lightning, indicating a grab attack. It then charges forward and does an uppercut attack, grabbing the player and impaling them with a critical attack that inflicts immense Scarlet Rot buildup. Players can dodge roll into the uppercut and get an opportunity to backstab the Cleanrot Knight. A quicker variant of this attack can be performed after the Cleanrot Knight blocks an attack with Spear Guard.

Sacred Phalanx

The Cleanrot Knight wielding a spear drags its spear on the ground, then slashes it to the side to leave a golden trail that erupts into holy spears. Players can avoid the attack by positioning to the right of the Cleanrot Knight to avoid the holy spear eruption, which leaves the boss vulnerable for counterattacks.

Slash

The Cleanrot Knight wielding a spear winds its sword, then slashes it as it moves forward. Players can dodge roll in the direction of the swing to avoid taking damage.

1-2 Slash

The Cleanrot Knight wielding a spear brings its sword to its left side, then performs a backhand slash followed by a normal slash. Players can dodge roll towards the direction of the initial slash, then maintain their position behind the knight to be able to retaliate as it finishes the sequence.

Sword Combo

The Cleanrot Knight wielding a spear performs an upward slash, followed by a backhand slash, then finishes with three quick stabs in front of it. To avoid the combo, players may dodge roll to the right, then away from the knight as it performs the three stabs. Players may also dodge roll towards the boss during the initial slash, then maintain position behind it as it finishes the sequence.

Sweeping Scythe

The Cleanrot Knight wielding a Halo Scythe winds its long scythe up, then sweeps it to the front twice in quick successions. Players in melee range of the knight can time dodge rolls going backward as the scythe hits, allowing for retaliation as the knight will have a brief recovery animation after the attack.

Rings of Light

The Cleanrot Knight wielding a scythe fires three moderate-moving halos (similar to Miquella's Ring of Light) simultaneously towards its targetted player. Players can avoid the attack by either strafing sideways or dodge rolling towards the halos as they connect with the player.
