Elden Ring Nightreign Recluse Key Features & Tips
- Weapon Preference: None
- The Recluse does not possess high health, typical of caster type builds. Expect her to die rather easily if she is placed in the center of combat. Helping to keep her alive in tight situations is an excellent long distance dodge with extended iframes.
- Given the low health and defenses, the Recluse is not an advisable class for inexperienced players, as timing parry windows, understanding her vast matrix of possible spell combinations, and successful dodge rolling is required to keep her alive.
Elemental Defense Passive Ability
- The Recluse can siphon FP from enemies and allies to further empower her spell casting by using Magic Cocktail on enemies that she has damaged. Press Triangle + L2 (PS5) whenever you damage an enemy to drain their FP and replenish your own.
Magic Cocktail Character Skill
- This skill allows you to use the combination of elements seen from Elemental Defense to trigger various effects based on the combination of elements.
- Use Triangle + L2 to use Magic Cocktail. Every 4th cast of Magic Cocktail will trigger an effect based on the combination of elements you pulled out of your targets (Fire, Magic, Lightning)
- Depending on which elements you pull out of enemies (Magic, Fire, Lightning, or Holy), you will do a special animation on every 4th use that will vary based upon what combination of elements were retrieved. This can damage enemies or give you buffs.
- Managing your FP when you play Recluse is of the utmost importance. Try not to drain all of your FP before using this Skill or you will have a difficult time.
- The order of elements collected doesn't affect the resulting spell effect, only the mixture.
Soulblood Song Ultimate Art
- Soulblood Song will mark all nearby enemies with a mark that lasts 16~ seconds. When yourself or allies strike any of these enemies (including Bosses), they will regain HP and FP, making this a very good support Ultimate. Note that it does have a limited range and will not hit enemies or Bosses that are too far away.
- This Ultimate has a very long animation making it difficult to use sometimes, but it does have i-frames when casting, so you can use it to avoid high damage attacks.

Recluse primarily casts spells that deal heavy damage and can have a mixture of elemental cocktails. She has higher FP, Intelligence and Faith, and a lower HP, Stamina, and Strength. Some Relics you should look for are Bone-Like Stone, Vestige of Night, Night of the Fathom, and Night of the Wise. Click here to see a full guide for Recluse.
The Vestige of Night Relic is a green relic that can be obtained upon completing the Recluse's second Remembrance quest. Check the walkthrough below for a full guide on the Remembrance Quest. This relic activates Terra Magica whenever you collect elemental residue, and increases your Magic Damage. It is a good relic to use to prop up the Recluse's early game, before you find sources of other elemental damage.
The Bone-Like Stone Relic is a green relic that can be obtained upon completing Recluse's third Remembrance Quest. This relic's effects work with the Recluse's Ultimate Art - temporarily increasing her max HP and inflicting blood loss on herself but also further increasing the damage she does.
It also provides a +3 Intelligence bonus. While the instant blood loss can be dangerous, any damage you deal to enemies marked by the sigil will regain the lost health. It also proves useful for allies with bonuses that trigger on blood loss in vicinity.
The Night of the Fathom Relic is a red relic that can be obtained upon defeating the Augur Night Lord for the first time. It can increase your HP, heal your allies when you consume a flask and also all consumables and items that you use will be applied to your nearby teammates as well. It aids greatly with your survival and allows you to play a supportive role provided your allies are within range of the shared flask healing.
Next, the relic effects you need to look out for are effects that can increase FP while wielding a Sacred Seal or a Glintstone Stave, fill up your art gauge when you defeat an enemy, any form of improved incantation if you wish to have a Sacred Seal equipped during your expedition, an increase in Magic Attack power, Ultimate Art Gauge, increase in INT and Mind.
Best Relics With Fixed Effects for Recluse in Elden Ring Nightreign
Grand Luminous Scene can be purchased from the Small Jar Bazaar at the Roundtable Hold for 1,000
. This Relic has a fixed effect, which will provide the following:
- [Recluse] Suffer blood loss and increase attack power upon Art activation
- Mind +2
- Intelligence +2
This is a yellow alternative to the Bone-Like Stone Relic for players that have not completed the Recluse's remembrance quests. Instead of the max HP buff after activating the Ultimate Art, you get a boost to Mind. Both relics are roughly on par with each other; it is up to the player's discretion and collection to decide which of the two they would use.
Grand Tranquil Scene can be purchased from the Collector Signboard for 3 Sovereign Sigils. This Relic has a fixed effect, which will provide the following:
- Max FP Up with 3+ Staves Equipped
- Max FP permanently increased after releasing Sorcerer's Rise mechanism
- Magic Attack Power Up
Combine this with her two remembrance Relics to get a triple-green setup that augments the Recluse under many different circumstances.
Elden Ring Nightreign Recluse Notes & Tips
- Voice Actor: Samantha Dakin
- It is highly recommended that you have at least one melee weapon equipped in order to conserve FP and to successfully fend off enemies within melee range.
- "Successive attacks restore HP/FP" only affect melee attacks, so refrain from taking these passives unless you intend to use them with a fast-hitting weapon as an emergency refilling method.
- Since resurrecting Teammates relies on damaging them with attacks and abilities, The Recluse is at an advantage, with the ability to attack from long range. Cast spells at a distance to revive fallen allies.
- Magic Cocktail does not care for the order at which you collected the residues. A Fire+Fire+Magic combination will have the same result as a Magic+Magic+Fire or Magic+Fire+Magic.
- The Recluse has both S in Intelligence and Faith scaling so she is proficient in both Sorceries and Incantations. Look out for both types of casting catalysts during your run, to diversify the elements at your fingertips and increase the mixtures of cocktails you can access.
- Memorize the solutions to unlocking a Sorcerer's Rise as they often contain powerful staves or seals.
- It helps to pick up a bow during the expedition to help unlock a Rise.
- Dormant Powers from forts and great churches have a 65% chance to contain an uncommon class weapon. Dormant powers from encampments and ruins have a 35% chance to contain an uncommon class weapon. Recluse's class weapons consist of staves.
- Patch 1.02.2 increased the offensive spell attack power of Magic Cocktail, and decreased the time it requires to cast Spells.
Nightreign Recluse Remembrance Quest Walkthrough
How to unlock and start Remembrance Quests in Nightreign
In Nightreign, players can randomly find journal entries related to the corresponding Nightfarer that they are using in an Expedition, which are key components to starting Remembrance Quests. These quests provide a backstory to the eight Nightfarers in the game, with players starting a Remembrance through the Roundtable Hold. When completed, these Remembrances will give rewards to players, such as Relics and Garbs (Skins).
When players are stuck in a part of a Remembrance Quest, or if a journal entry is missing, they may start an Expedition with the Nightfarer that they want to progress the quest. Then, defeat the Nightlord and the players will be able to do the next step of the quest. For more information about Remembrance Quests, players may visit this page.
Recluse Remembrance: Hunt down a Nightlord
Part 1, Recluse Remembrance Objectives:
- Talk to Iron Menial.
- Vanquish Night-tainted foes in Limveld and take evidence of the deed.
- Talk to Iron Menial.
As the Recluse, head to the "Journal" area at the Roundtable Hold and select Chapter 2 of the Recluse's Journal to start reliving her Remembrance. Head to the west wing of the Roundtable Hold, towards the dining room, and speak to the Iron Menial. He will ask the Recluse to vanquish a creature that has been tainted by the night and to bring evidence of slaying the enemy. Begin your expedition in Limveld to find the Night-tainted target and to collect the evidence that you need.
Upon checking your map in Limveld, an orange quest marker will show the location of a field boss to defeat, who will drop the Night Shard item on defeat. You do NOT have to be successful in defeating the Nightlord at the end of the expedition to retain the item, as soon as you complete the objective and are awarded the Night Shard, you will retain it to be able to complete the next step when back at Roundtable Hold.
Once you're back at the Roundtable Hold, return to the Iron Menial and show him the Night Shard. After speaking to him, when he mentions about asking him for any help, speak to him again and choose the dialogue option "I have a favor to ask" and give the Night Shard. This will complete the first part of the Recluse's Remembrance. Either use the remembrance gateway to conclude the remembrance or teleport to the journal and choose the option "Conclude remembrance". Completing this section of the Recluse's Remembrance quest updates the Recluse's Journal and rewards the player with the Recluse's Chalice.

Recluse's Remembrance: Discovering a Vestige
Part 2, Recluse Remembrance Objectives:
- Talk to Iron Menial.
- Examine the vestige.
- Talk to Iron Menial.
- Show the Vestige of Night to Iron Menial.
Return to the Journal at the Roundtable Hold and read Chapter 4, where you can continue the Recluse's Remembrance. Upon starting, read the note that's on the round table, then open the Roundtable Hold map and head to the exclamation mark that is pinned next to the Iron Menial's icon, and speak to him. You can find him attending to the bookshelves where the Small Jar Bazaar is located. After the initial conversation, speak to him again and choose the dialogue option "I'll take the Night Shard back now" and the Iron Menial will return the item to the Recluse.

Shortly after receiving the item, an in-game text will appear that says, "By imbuing the shard of Night with sorcerous power, it begins to faintly pulse". Open the map and you'll see a new exclamation mark that is pinned at the southeast side of the map. Head to the pinned area and you'll notice a strange blue aura emitting on top of a bed. Examine it and you'll collect the Vestige of Night. The game will then follow through with a dialogue scene with the Iron Menial.
While talking to the Iron Menial, you'll need to show him the Vestige of Night; doing this concludes the second part of the Recluse's Remembrance Quest. Interact with the nearby remembrance gateway or travel to the Journal to conclude the second part of the Recluse's Remembrance. Completing this section of the Recluse's Remembrance quest updates the Recluse's Journal and rewards the player with the Vestige of Night relic.
Recluse's Remembrance: The Witch of the Wheel
Part 3, Recluse Remembrance Objectives:
- Find the person lurking in the Roundtable Hold
- Find The Crypt.
- Help the Iron Menial.
- Speak to Iron Menial.
- Defeat the
Return to the Journal at the Roundtable Hold and read Chapter 6, where you can continue the Recluse's Remembrance. Upon starting, your objective is to find a presence that's lurking in the Roundtable Hold. To find this person, head to the Training Grounds to find the Iron Menial sharpening a sword. Ready your weapon and attack him to reveal his true identity, the Witch of the Wheel. After a brief introduction, speak to the witch and choose the dialogue option "About your resurrection".
Continue talking to the witch until she mentions to you about examining the mausoleum. Shortly after this, you'll hear a sound, and an in-game text will appear that says, "From somewhere, the sound of a heavy door opening rings out".
Head to the room where the Small Jar Bazaar can be found, and on the right, next to a table, is a doorway. Go down, immediately turn left to find a door that is now open, head through the door, down the stairs, and follow the path to find a Crypt. Check the right side of the room, by the first coffin, to find the Iron Menial unconscious and sitting on the ground.
Examine the Iron Menial and choose to recalibrate the doll's magic root. Shortly after he gains consciousness, he will ask you why you would do such a thing, follow through by choosing the dialogue option to explain the situation.
Keep talking to him until you get another dialogue option to share about the Witch of the Wheel. You'll learn from the Iron Menial that defeating the nightlord will put an end to wtich. Talk to the Iron Menial again, and he will respond by saying, "Where are my manners!" and he'll follow through by bowing to you.
An item will then drop from the Iron Menial, and he'll give you an item, the Bone-Like Stone. This concludes the third part of the Recluse's Remembrance Quest. Interact with the nearby remembrance gateway or travel to the Journal to conclude the second part of the Recluse's Remembrance. Completing this section of the Recluse's Remembrance quest updates the Recluse's Journal and rewards the player with the Bone-Like Stone relic.

To progress and complete the Recluse's Remembrance Quest, (as Recluse), you must start and complete an expedition three times before you can face the main Nightlord (also known as the Night Aspect), Heolstor the Nightlord. A full expedition is only considered completed if you survive the first two days and successfully defeat a Nightlord on the 3rd day.
Another thing to point out before you start an expedition is to ensure that you don't waste time, and that your objective is pushed through is create your private session, and let players join in, or if you have friends who play the game, use a password and give it to them to join your session. It's important that you create the matchmaking process so that the session only recognizes your character's remembrance objectives.
As mentioned, defeat the Night Aspect, and shortly after, you'll be teleported to the Roundtable Hold. Proceed to the room where you previously collected the Vestige of Night item, and you'll hear the cries of a baby. Examine the bed and choose the option to "Lay hand upon infant" to trigger the Recluse to cradle the baby. The end credits will then follow, which you can skip.
After reviewing the results section of the expedition, you'll return to the Roundtable Hold. Go back to the same room where you just interacted with the infant to find the Witch of the Wheel, the Recluse's sister. Simply speak to her and pick up the item she leaves behind to obtain a new outfit, the Remembrance (Recluse). This will also fully complete the Recluse's Remembrance Quest and updates the Recluse's Journal.

Elden Ring Nightreign Recluse Journal
Recluse Journal: Chapter 1
Though my fellows call me by the name of "Recluse," mine origin is as one of many — a witch of the deep woods.
From mine seclusion amongst the trees, cause did I have to journey forth, to Limveld.
For I had mind to search — for a certain something, coiled in shadow.
Recluse Journal: Chapter 2
I search for, yes, my "beloved infant." If I am to find it, I must recognize the signs that shall point the way. First, I aim to approach the menial.
The Beloved Infant: The being that l, as a witch, birthed. It was never a true name bequeathed, though with a certain mirth we spoke of it as "the gnawling."
Following a trail of ancient magic, its whereabouts are approximately known — it remaineth in somewhere in Limveld, I am sure.
I seek a Shard of Night, that the babe's connection to the night might be ascertained.
Recluse Journal: Chapter 3
While I await the outcome of the menial's investigation, my thoughts turn to an old companion, now passed. For my search, in some ways, is an atonement for what happened to her.
The Witch of the Wheel: An old friend, who is learned in the same ways as I. She was, in a sense, the Infant's nurse.
The gnawling would eat anything and everything, in quantities most vast. As such, I left its feeding to mine old companion.
The witch of the wheel was a woman of deceit. Her wiles were sword and shield to her.
Recluse Journal: Chapter 4
The menial left a note.
His investigation seemeth to have borne fruit. From the Night Shard, vestiges of the Infant can be traced. I shall ask for the shard's return, that I might verify this myself.
The Menial: Appears to be a carved mannequin-like creature. Hath taken to aiding me in my search.
Perhaps I have tasked him overmuch, I have seen him converse passing little with the other warriors of late. His presence seemeth to recede at the Roundtable.
Recluse Journal: Chapter 5
Using the Night Shard, I found a vestige connected to the Infant. Here is all I have learned thus far.
The Vestige of Night: Teeth marks found in the Night Shard, alongside the Vestige of Night found embedded in the Roundtable Hold. Both seem to radiate an ancient magic which I myself imbued.
I am certain, after mine Infant disappeared itself that day, it must have had an audience with the Nightlord.
It ravened as if its appetite knew no bound — it would devour shadows of any stripe. The Nightlord's own shade surely seemed irresistible to it. What must have become of my creature, after it did feast...
Recluse Journal: Chapter 6
I sensed another familiar magic within the Vestige of Night. I believe now that mine old companion is the key to finding the Infant. The Witch of the Wheel, who should be long departed.
Using the clues I have gathered, I must seek her in her hiding place within the Roundtable Hold.
The Demise of the Witch of the Wheel: During a great clash of armies, the Infant overran the enemy, devouring their shadows. It was then that it lost itself, and bared its fangs at us.
With time I have come to understand. It was yet young, and afraid, and I did not think to take it in my arms. To offer comfort of any kind.
The price I paid was the loss of an old friend. I still remember, clear as day, her remains — shorn of any shadow.
Recluse Journal: Chapter 7
The child with the Nightlord bequeathed me the last thing I needed in my search.
Bone-Like Stone: The Infant's voice can be heard when softly touching the stone.
Please, have patience. I shall come to thee, I swear.
Recluse Journal: Chapter 8
"l thank thee, for bestowing thy love upon our Night."
Thus did mine old companion speak to me in parting. The words resounded within, as I took the Infant in mine arms.
As I did what I once could not, all those years ago.
The crying hath now ceased. The gentle night within its breast knoweth now a peaceful slumber.
AnonymousCocktail needs a rework to function more similarly to scholar or revenant.
Controller, it should be Triangle L2 to ready skill, L1 draws residue from target (or holding it draws all nearby residue including from allies), R1 dumps oldest residue (or holding it dumps all residue), R2 mixes the cocktail, L2 or dodge exits mode. Any of these actions returns you to exits mode.
This way, you can more easily decide when to use your cocktail, or more easily take advantage of residues on allies from enemy attacks.
I would say the most RNG depended character. She either super strong or super weak, depending if you got good spells or you got some pebbles are slow low damaged AOE ones, like Crystal Release which is ONLY good when you cast it under huge boss

AnonymousThere are some misconceptions about recluse plus the two things that the guy below said that have some truth in it, but for the wrong reasons.
Recluse has way more survival potential depending on the relics she has. She’s shallowly a glass cannon, but when you know how to build around her, she has huge survival potential.
So I’m posting this for someone that wants to play this character to its full survival potential and thus enjoy the character.
A long read, but worth it:
Night of the fathom is not the awesome relic people make it out to be for recluse, by ITSELF. The thing is that you can sacrifice a bit of damage for survivability by stacking it with recluse hp relic.
I will talk about that from two perspectives within the trios scenario: normal mode and DoN.
Normal mode is very chill. Recluse’s bone-like stone relic with defeating enemies art gauge should be enough. Evergaol relic is meta in this mode, so unfortunately you must have one as annoying as it is.
Meanwhile, in DoN joining these relics acquire more importance since they will give you a cushion effect that can last for the entire expedition and function like a wylder passive for the final fight, while doing great damage and help the others with your ultimate art’s benefits.
And keep in mind the idea in mind that magic/sorcery atk aren’t the only good dps picks: affinity and incantations increase are very powerful too.
If you have defeating enemies fills more of the art gauge plus any atk up on at least two depth relic slots, you can essentially become not only decent dps but even unkillable if you know how to manage the passives you find throughout the match.
Damage negation at full is just one of them. Even taking damage boosts damage negation with damage up while casting can help you a lot.
You must be very aware of the passive stacks, but you must also consider if you find dormant physical/affinity damage negations and hp plus during the expedition, and prioritize them when you run a semi-hp build, since these will make you even more durable.
An important remark here is that if you have a depth relic with hp and magic/affinity/etc damage up, you really should use it. Even if the other relics have higher damage tiers or some sorcery/incantation type increase, hp will be 100% better. It’s a rare find, but if you do find one or many, use them with recluse hp increase.
When it comes to damage negation relics, they’re not the priority either, but imo having a physical/affinity damage negation with an atk up can be helpful too if you also pair them with at least recluse hp enhancement.
The hp benefits become even greater if you have sacred seal discovery. When you are facing an enemy that has holy weakness, your teammates will most likely obtain that affinity and you might obtain a holy seal.
By ensuring a constant supply of holy affinities you’ll find out it has two uses: to constantly reapply the holy defense aura buff cocktail (10%, should be 15 or 18% imo), and if you keep a fire affinity source, to occasionally create the warming stone 30% hp cocktail, which btw is also a huge benefit for your teammates.
I also want to cover a very underrated relic: the one that makes you negate the affinity you collect by 20%.
It’s not worth it by itself because of the fact that you’ll miss out on damage in exchange for a 20% negation of affinities that comprise way less of a threat than physical damage during the expedition.
But if you’re going against caligo, augur or libra, this relic can be your most valuable asset for surviving their affinity attacks. If you also have some extra hp the way I described it before and negations, you can directly tank many of their affinity attacks, even in depth 5, which makes a huge difference between winning and losing.
In this case I’ve simply covered her ways of having better defenses while balancing it with some damage.
Long story short, damage is 50-60% of the focus and the other half goes to hp, art gauge and whatever you have to survive.
Priorities will vary depending on which nightlords we’re talking about as shown with collecting affinity relic. So I advise you to create multiple builds for each situation.
Hope this is helpful for you guys. If you have any feedback please share
AnonymousThese recommended relic section are awful. Night of fathom is terrible on recluse, you should not be buffing your HP at all. you are a glass canon.... GO FOR DAMAGE. YOU ARE NOT SUPPORT AND YOU CANNOT TANK. GO FOR DAMAGE. DO NOT WASTE A SLOT FOR HEALTH BUFFING OR SUPPORT EFFECTS.

AnonymousMagic slop aka Ironeye with more damage. Fish for stars of ruin from lusat or night comet from loss and learn to time your cocktail through boss offense and you already mastered the ranged slop strat

AnonymousI've confirmed that the cursed keyboard and mouse only tech (controller has the two inputs needed bound to the same button) where you hold her character skill (cocktail) input and then tap a barehanded weapon skill input while her hand is right in front of her hat and she performs a version of carian grandeur is in fact a thing and not just a rumor.

AnonymousI find it hard to believe that shattering crystal isn’t a starting spell, considering it got nerfed in efficiency to the point that adding it as such would be balanced.
Can’t see either why spells like rock sling aren’t here either, so that gravity builds can actually exist.
And how we got carian gs instead of carian piercer, which favors recluse’s character more than the gs. Carian gs isn’t bad, just not as decent as piercer.
It’s also stupid that rare staves like prince lf death and meteorite don’t get ancient death rancor and collapsing stars, but instead lesser versions that are worse than a GLINTSTONE PEBBLE.
Revenant has three great starting spells. So why tf does recluse get such a garbage repertoire?
Anonymousplease for the love of god i see the team running i know storms closing in im not actually trying to fight the red bbk i just need to steal elements off a target that wont die in one hit so i have the cocktail i want you don't have to spam pings at me like im stupid thats the whole gimmick of my character

Anonymous
AnonymousI love playing recluse with heolstors relic with a bow in hand and being able to draw whatever elements I need to cast whatever of her cocktails I want to use in various situations. Been having so much fun

AnonymousCarian gs will make your solo playthroughs better. You can deal with many more enemies without risking dying mid-animation.
Many enemies can be consecutively staggered by it. But it works the same way hoarfrost stomp does: early-early mid game at most.
Rest of the game you should rely on any good spells you’ve managed to find.
AnonymousI still use Shattering Crystal anyways, the nerf wasn't even that big.

AnonymousAnyone else feel like the Shattering Crystal nerf went too far? Now it costs so much you can't break even on fp without throwing out some cheap filler spells which lowers your overall dps. Even Stars of Ruin doesn't have that problem.

Anonymousshe can safely solo punish the giant flower in everdark harmonia's second phase. the ice cocktail covers enough area to hit all the pustules simultaneously

Anonymous
AnonymousFor her remembrance you do NOT need to kill 4 Nightlords with Recluse to complete her remembrance. You just need to progress to the final step, then kill Heolstor. Lots of sources online claim that you need to have a certain number of Nightlord kills while using Recluse but it is not true.

Anonymousthe lightning stake might be one of the most orgasmic abilities in a fromsoft game

Anonymous
Anonymousdo yourself a favour, get a relic that has hidden power helps discover sacred seals and become an incantation recluse. sorceries are almost exclusively magic damage, aside from a couple of fire damage sorceries and only have access to frostbite for statuses. incantations have everything besides magic, buffs like golden vow/fgms and access to every status including frostbite (frozen lightning spear). it becomes trivial to get a lvl 3 cocktail of your choosing on demand, while still putting out absurd damage.
not to mention how much cooler incantations are compared to sorceries. sorceries are just blue vfx that shoot a projectile at the enemy. incantations are just way more visually interesting and far more fun to use in my opinion. unless you get a staff with ancient death rancor, rycards rancor or stars of ruin, there's not really a reason to use any sorceries outside of the starting weapon.
AnonymousFeedback : Recluse is weak. Duchess is better than her in mage role.
FS : Ok , let buff cocktail damage by 30% , buff cocktail cast speed by 30%
Feedback : Executor is weak. Duchess is better than him in melee Dex dps role.
FS : Ok , let buff his curse sword damage by 9000% , stance break by 999x , stamina on guard by 888x , let it get boost by passive "skill damage" , let his dog mode scale with DoN level too.
hex , Did you already fire your tester out ???
Anonymous
AnonymousShe's good and strong but I can't play her in DoN depths under 4. Like dude I can't revive you when you're at 3 bars. Even with an offhand melee weapon I don't have the dodge to avoid attacks while reviving. And in D3 you're expected to have teammates at constant 3 bars. Revenant is a better carry and reviverat lower ranks, while recluse dishes out more consistent damage and is one of the most powerful characters, you just need a good team to make recluse work.

Anonymousher cocktail seems not rewarding compared to the Executor's Cursed Sword.
Find three different affinity. takes 2 business days to gather (wasted time pick wrong aff due to your team's spam attacks). take another business day to cast, boom 2000.
while Executor can clang clang clang Zoooom 2500 + rip post 2500 lol.
AnonymousRecluse got hidden buff in teamplay.
they buff tank classes (Raider , Guardian , Executor) and they nerf range class (pot Scholar , Ironeye , Crystal Duchess)
That means there will be more players playing in the frontline and fewer players in the back.
fewer Scholar steal affinity damage passive.
fewer Ironeye hide behind your back.
fewer Crystal Duchess steal your staff and sorceries passive.
more players do tank and take aggro for you.
sound good , right ?

AnonymousSince Recluse has equal INT & FAI, I've started to REALLY wish that she started with a Sacred Seal in her offhand, so that we could make use of the newer Relics options that change your starting equipment's Sorceries & Incantations.
Just imagine actually being able to start out with something like Magma Shot & Glintstone Arc on your staff, and Lightning Strike & Discus of Light on your offhand seal, so that you'd have a decently ranged spell to be able to actually use ALL of your Magic Cocktail options right from the start, instead of having to constantly rely on RNG and/or other teammates to have other ones in their setup while attempting to time your FP absorption accordingly.
Ever since I landed a Relic that gives Dormant Power helps Discover Sacred Seals & Maximum FP Increased with 3+ Sacred Seals, I've had a monumentally more enjoyable time playing Recluse, because you have so many more options from Boss drops, your teammates will naturally leave good Staffs for you if they happen into them via RNG, AND you can actually make use of Magic Cocktail combinations intentionally, because you'll basically always have all the elements you need to throw in whichever one you want. (I used to occasionally run the Night Aspect Relic and grab a bow in my offhand, and cycle through it to have some control over being able to have all 4 elements from the start, but that's a bit obnoxious to manage, and that Relic Slot's a lot better for other things for her).
Of all the characters, she's the one you can't really use to make a starting build that really emphasizes her character Skill with in a way that's focused. Ironeye's kit has his ult being able to cause Poison, and also Relics that can cause poison, so that his Deep Relic of his Skill causing Heavy Poison can expand his playstyle around Poison. For characters like Scholar & Executor you can lean in to a lot of Arcane-focused options around a myriad of different status effects at once, now also including Rot. The Balancers now give the option of making other characters into L2 spamming machines with a number of good starting Ashes, so that you can start out strong and let the RNG reinforce that. With Recluse... it's still basically impossible to make a build around emphasizing one of the specific Magic Cocktail Doubles or Triples specifically, because Sorcery only gives Magic & occasionally lets you occasionally have 1 of 4 Fire Spells, whereas Incantations have a strong balance between Fire, Lightning, & Holy for the rest of your Magic Cocktail components.
Especially if the SotE Weapons & Spells still eventually show up at some point, I'm hoping that that'll be a QoL update for her, as that would be monumentally impactful. Even just being able to start out with the ability to use the Holy + Lightning Auto-Parry, or the Triple Lightning Dodge really mix up what you'd be able to do with her for the first few levels when those abilities have the opportunity to make a HUGE difference. At any rate, Sacred Seal Recluse is just such a monumentally fun way to play her where you're basically guaranteed to have good picks for 3 Staffs & 3 Seals in almost every run that it feels like she could really use a way for the starting Relics to build her out towards emphasizing her Magic Cocktail combos that doesn't exist currently.
Anonymous
AnonymousIt doesn't matter whether Recluse or Duchess is better spell caster.
No one will play spell Duchess when desert sorceress skin comes out lol.
AnonymousThe relic stat that reduces her mind for increased INT and FTH is absolutely busted. You can buy a normal relic with this stat change at the Collector's Sign Board, but it'll also give you +3 INT and FTH. Having more INT and FTH means you do WAY more damage with spells, and not by a small margin either. You're looking at anywhere from a 15-25% increase. You can 2 shot mobs in the starting camp with glintstone arc, for instance.
Of course, it's balanced with you having about 30% less FP than usual, but you quite literally have a way to regen FP. And if you ever can't, then use starlight shards or touch Grace. Trust me, the extra damage is worth it
AnonymousImagine if we ever get Knight's Lightning Spear...
its all over my screen
AnonymousMagma Shot on starter staff is pretty neat. In addition to still keeping Glintstone Arc, so you get magic + fire affinities guaranteed every run, Magma Shot is actually really decent at staggering things especially charged. Makes dealing with things like Crystalians easier, and banished knights can be a unlocked with repeated uncharged shots. It's also really helpful for dealing with any shield using does. The biggest gripe I have with this set up is that talisman scarabs are kind of a pain to chase down, but most of the time you can just use Arc how you would use Pebble and it more or less "works"

AnonymousCarian greatsword start is a must if you play solo. It stuns many heavy hitting enemies and you’ll be able to cheese them

Anonymous
Anonymoussince we have relic that change her starter staff spell to Magic glintblade (Glintblade) , Night shard (Invisible) , Magma shot , Carian greatsword (Carian) , and Briar spell (Thorn)
I hope we will found more variety Recluse from now on , not just braindead spamming Crystalian everywhere.

Anonymousshould’ve made magic more like in souls game with all classes separated
why on earth sorcery has only magic damage while incantations have holy, lightning, ice lightning, fire, fire but orange, fire but black etc
i miss pyromancer class
AnonymousCocktail storage. Every problem stemming from her skill would be solved through that.

AnonymousI’ve been playing DoN with this character for a while, and this is all that I’ve learned so far:
1. Some DoN expeditions are better with sacred seal discovery relic. Try to find it. You can go to Rises with teammates to find proper staves anyway. Killing bosses might give you good seals. Gnoster and Caligo need fire damage, and most seals have at least some fire damage.
2. Affinity attack power is better than any sorcery/incantation relic because you’ll expand your range of options by dealing decent damage with both staves and seals. Besides, the cocktails aren’t boosted by sorcery and incantation relics.
3. Call me meta slave, but for depth 4 onwards it’s unfortunately mandatory to run at least evergaol or night invader relic in trios. HP bars get way too high.
4. The mentioned relics in point 2 and 3 are important because they also boost your cocktail damage.
5. Recluse’s affinity negation relic is niche, but it works for gnoster, libra, caligo and heolstor for his third phase fissures. But it’s better paired with affinity damage negation perks, if possible without damage sacrifice oc or as dormants found by defeating enemies.
6. The improved int and faith relic is only excellent for sacred seal or straight sword discovery for coded sword and sword of NaF build. It’s like a 10% damage increase to sorceries and incantations. But for sorcery spam you need huge amounts of fp that are hard to pull off with this relic if you aren’t experienced enough with fp regen.
7. Dex relic is useless because it sacrifices a lot of both stats in exchange for what is imo too little dex points. If you want the same thing but with a character better suited for fast casting then play duchess/faith duchess.
8. Don’t play this character on solo unless you either have OP DoN relics or a severe lack of self love.

AnonymousYeaaaaah I totally play Recluse for the unique and fun magic gameplay and the complex playstyle, no other reason involved at all... And my tendinitis has NOTHING to do with me playing Recluse, you hear me, no connection at all...

Anonymous
Anonymousbefore DoN , I found a few of Recluse in ED-boss. some are good , some always on 3 bar.
after DoN , I found massive number of it , none are good , almost all are on 3 bar.
and look like every Recluse I play with use cheat relic : improve crystal spell , improve Magic+4 (reduce str and fai)
sad.
AnonymousTry to get a relic with "Dormant Power gives more seals." Sure, staves are nice and shattering crystal is the GOAT, but almost every stave does magic damage while seals offer much more variety. Of all the nightlords, not a single one is "weak" to magic (which makes sense since magic dmg is so common and most of them only have 0-10% resistance anyways which is peanuts), but seals can give you fire, holy, and lightning dmg, and since Recluse has 51 INT and FTH, she can use seals just as, if not more effectively than staves

AnonymousFound Recluse in depth 5
Look their Relic
Always 3x of improve crystalian + damage boost with a little curse.
now I'm at 8k score and have 40 in my block list , let see how many people I block until my score is 9999.
AnonymousBig mistake for make Relic effect : Improve [...] sorceries stack with Attack power boost effect.
Instead make this character use all element , mix cocktail. they make people spam 1 magic over and over.
Instead of Rogue-like with multiple build , they make people rely on 1 spell and cheat meta relic.
Anonymoustfw you have to set your favorite character aside because you have to solo your way back up to rank 4 after Chinese griefers dragged you down to 2.

AnonymousYou know that she's the kind of character that holds back her true power. Who knows what she's capable of if she took off those sandals

AnonymousHear me out: Dark Night of the Champion on Recluse.
-Big increase to stamina which she sorely lacks.
-Much faster Ultimate gain when killing any enemy, this includes kills from your allies.
-Increased attack power of any elemental weapons and their damage based skills she finds on an expedition.
AnonymousUnknown nightlords become more common from depth 3 onwards, imo it's better to focus your build on pure magic since the worst case you can get is a nightlord with 20% magic resistance.
Ignore the moth if you meet gnoster, and always bring a healing incantation in case you meet ED maris.
AnonymousOf course when I want to run Duchess with crystalian sorcery boost relics, I get to play with Recluse who doesn't check others relics, steals all staves, contributes absolutely nothing and throws the run. Had to resort to use powerstanced daggers so we lost obviously.

Anonymous
AnonymousThe new patch MEGA buffed Recluse.
All of her cocktail animations are faster (about 1-2 seconds, can't confirm directly), but ALL of her cocktails spells received anywhere from a 30-40% increase in damage. Pure magic used to do 253 to the training dummy (no relic buffs). Now it does 341. Pure Fire did 350. Now it does 501. The Lightning Rod when from 1150 to 1637. This is a pretty huge buff, for obvious reasons.
The relic effect where it gives you extra health when you use your ultimate when from giving you +30% to +50%. That's huge, but that pales in comparison to the next part:
THE HEALTH PERMANENTLY STAYS UNTIL YOU LOSE IT. That's right. If you pop this art and somehow never get hit, you effectively have 50% more HP at all times. If you take any damage, you lose the buffer health and you're left with your usual toothpick of a healthbar, but this change is SUPER helpful for not getting one-shot.
Also Shatter Crystal? The shotgun spell? The seemingly most common spell next to f*cking Rejection? The one that can rack up thousands of damage per cast? It got fixed so now charging it actually increases it's damage.
QUEENS STAY WINNING FOLKS
AnonymousRecluse may be the best Nightfarer in Deep of Night mode.
because currently , she literally die from everything , buff enemy , curse reduce max hp , curse reduce vigor not change anything
(die by oneshot anyway)
I don't think guardian main and raider main prepare for this , they might be shock when see their full heath down to zero with 1 attack
AnonymousWhy is it that Recluse players will never use a sacred seal (she has S scaling in Faith) UNLESS there's a Revenant on the team, in which case they suddenly decide that they need every seal in the game?

Anonymousin the fact that she can make a DIY Nuke but all Recluse I play with just ignore it and spam throwing a small orb.

Anonymous
Anonymousher ult mark actually actually increase the damage given to a enemy, dont know if anybody knew this already and no i am not talking about that one bloodloss relic effect

AnonymousQuick guide/tip for each cocktail combination (copy-pasted from the original comment on the magical cocktail page with some edits):
Pure Magic: Great for early game, gives you consistent source of magic to pull and lingers for a bit so it's essentially 60 free FP. First tick of damage is pretty much hitscan and will stagger most humanoid mobs up to Banished Knights levels, but the damage ticks afterwards are kind of useless. Pretty low damage, only good for FP regen early-mid game but has very niche uses later on.
Pure Fire: Leaves lingering AOE like Wylder's relic effect, but a bit bigger with less damage. Same as pure magic, can give you 60 free FP basically. Kind of slow and pretty short ranged, so it's niche but the damage can really add up if the boss stays inside the AoE.
Pure Holy: Improves dmg negation. Always helpful, but not always needed. Also kind of hard to get unless you're going for it, so this is one of the rarer effects you'll get. Plus, improved dmg negation doesn't help if you don't get hit, and with Recluse's role as the squishy spellcaster...yeah.
Pure Lightning: Gives you bloodhound's step. Not super useful, since it doesn't last long and Recluse already has a really good roll. It can mess with your roll timings though, so if you're used to her rolls, be careful.
Fire/Magic: Great damage and very easy to get. Combines the linger magic wisps and lingering fire AOEs. Moves super slowly in the air, but once it explodes, it can do pretty good damage. Never a bad option since you can just fire and forget.
Magic Lightning: Pocket Moonveil. SUPER good. Staggers, hits like a truck, comes out surprisingly fast, has long range, and you can hold it. If you have a consistent source of lightning damage, this is your go-to. Always try for this unless you're going for a tri-combination. This is basically a pocket Comet but with no FP cast and a wider AoE.
Fire-Lightning: Shock and awe. Invincible during the flashstep, but you get put right in the enemy's face. If they don't stagger, you're gonna die. Very fun, very flashy, but very risky
Lighting-Holy: Auto-parry. Worthless, and the buff doesn't even last that long. You'll probably spend more time trying to get the correct elemental cocktail than actually have the buff work, and even then, only a few bosses have parryable attacks. Surprisingly good against Heolster since he's the only Nightlord that can be parried, but only with his greatsword. Other than that, dont bother
Magic Holy: gives you infinite FP for a short amount of time. It's okay. Useful to throw out if you have nothing else, but the endlag eats into the duration, so you rarely get the full effect. Niche but helpful when it's there
Magic Fire Lightning: Hollow Purple. Has MASSIVE range and does considerable damage, stance, and posture damage, but the windup is super long and if you get hit out of it, you'll lose the cocktail. Better to have someone take aggro as you wipe them from existence. Great spell, never bad to have and can easily wipe crowds. Make sure you get poise buffs tho
Magic Lightning Ice: Popsicle. Long start-up but you're completely invincible while you're in the ice. Can proc frostbite but that's the most damage you'll ever do with it since it tickles otherwise. AOE is pretty big, but you're locked in the animation for the entire length of the spell, so if you use it at the wrong time or location, that's 15 seconds of subway surfer gameplay for you. You can use it as a pseudo-dodge, but you need biblical levels of premonition to pull it off against anything that's not a telegraphed nightlord AOE
Magic Fire Holy: Dragon's Breath. Does a decent amount of damage, but if the enemy is weak to fire, that's like 40% of their healthbar gone. It also replenishes allies' health AND FP, so you can cosplay the Medic from TF2 if you free-aim it. It's like Scouring Black Flame where it travels upward in an arc, so i'd recommend free-aiming it anyways unless the target moves around a lot or is fat (like an erdtree avatar or Mani) Can be a GODSEND for your melee characters. Just don't get hit because you'll be knocked out of it early and you're stuck in the animation so you'll lose your hard-earned cocktail
Fire Lighting Holy: Lightning Stake. Has an initial hitbox with very small lingering AOEs and then follows up with a delayed nuke. Does MEGA stagger, on par with Wylder and Raider's ult, and does a hefty chunk of lightning and fire damage. As rewarding as it is though, it's VERY difficult to land, both because of the delayed nature of the second nuke and the long start-up, and you lose it if you get hit out of the animation. That being said, 10/10 cool factor, 5/10 for reliability.

Anonymousshe could be a 200lb twitter mom and id still use her because of magic cocktails

Anonymouswhy a lot of Recluse only use ultimate for revive 1 bar / dodge iframe ?
rarely see someone use at opening boss fight
AnonymousAnother advice for solo Recluse beginners: don't think too much about cocktails, keep it simple. Even though many enemies have some magic resistance, pure magic damage is still very much viable. Many of my fastest kills were with a purple/gold Carian Slicer and a stack of +magic +sorcery +dmg at full HP +cast speed bonuses.
And one more thing: don't be obsessed with gaol meta. Especially if you plan to use the green relic from Collector Signboard for +Max FP with 3+ staves and +Max FP after unlocking a Rise (and you should, it's awesome).
Think of it this way: with the Max FP relic, during day 1, you typically want to visit at least one fort and ideally 1-2 Rises, maybe clear a mine to upgrade your staff, and then start clearing the middle castle. On day 2, you want to finish the castle and either kill some formidable bosses in the wild or clear the shifting earth. If you're just starting to play solo Recluse, you probably won't be fast enough to do all that AND clear 2-3 gaols in addition. And if you clear 0-1 gaols, that's worse than using "Magic Power Up +1/+2".
AnonymousToo much skill gap player base.
The good one make my game very easy like playing easy mode
The bad one make me want a voice chat to tell them stop getting down every 5 seconds ffs
AnonymousDoes anyone know if Recluse's mana absorption is a percentage of her max FP?
Like, will I get more mana per absorb if I build more FP?
AnonymousAdvice for solo Recluse beginners: play without Shifting Earth. One of the best relics - if not the best - for Recluse is a relic sold at Collector Signboard that gives you Max FP when opening Sorcerer's Rises and when carrying 3+ staves. To activate its effects and get a huge buff to your Max FP, you want to visit forts for guaranteed staff drops and as many Rises as you can. However, if you have a Shifting Earth, it changes the layout of the map removing many regular points of interest. As a result, you may get a map where you have only one fort and only one Rise, and they are on the opposite sides of the map. Not only does this ruin your pathing, you will also see less staff drops, which means it will be harder for you to find spells you want, like Carian Slicer and Shattering Crystal.
Another advice is if you find yourself in a situation where a good staff/spell doesn't drop for your early, don't hesitate to upgrade your starting staff. Early game is arguably the most difficult part of the run for Recluse, so you want every bit of help you can get to farm levels and passives faster. Having a purple staff early helps a lot.
AnonymousHighest int of all characters and yet i only play with troglodyte recluses

AnonymousApparently you can auto parry Gladius' sword swings with the Holy+Lightning cocktail. Feels funny just saying "Haha, No" To a sword much larger than your entire body on the squishiest character of the bunch.

AnonymousAll recluses are f*cking c*nts. 3 bars, absolute f*cking idiots, had a recluse try to revive a 3 bar duchess instead of a 1 bar me when everdark caligo had barely any hp left so we died. Dumbest b*tch I've ever seen. Don't play this f*cking character it's genuinely dogsh*t, this needs to be locked behind like 500 sovereign sigils or some sh*t

AnonymousThey should change her "Increases Max HP on Art Activation" to "Faster Cast Speed for Elemental Cocktails" and playing her solo would feel MUCH better.

AnonymousHigh skill ceiling. Tough to play but great payoff if you git gud. Matching with/feels like:
Bad one: want voice chat so I can tell them to uninstall
Good one: on a date with big booba gothic MILF at the theme park
S-tier: Mommy shows you how to beat the game
Anonymousplaying her solo is the most miserable experience I ever had in gaming.

AnonymousI am on chapter 7 and picked up the baby at the end and it didn't count for the remembrance quest for some reason

AnonymousMy only problem with Recluse (and to be fair, it's more of a skill issue) is that her cocktail casting animation is much longer than the residue consuming animation. Sometimes, in the heat of the battle, I forget that I've already consumed 3. I try to consume more, get locked up in this very long cocktail casting animation, and get hit. This is by far the most annoying thing about Recluse for me. The rest is great.

AnonymousTrying to finish her remembrance solo is a truly miserable experience. You got Ironeye HP and damage but you gotta stop every 2 seconds to rElOaD, like, "pls heolstor just walk slowly like a good little boss for a few seconds and let me use the skill cause otherwise i run out of FP", while he charges a thrust that covers the entire map and cockblocks you at the very last moment so you don't even get the skill's effect.
Also the Art's duration is WAY too low, i'd have expected a relic effect to be a boost to its duration but NO, all you get is "increased max HP" as if it fucking mattered for a glass cannon character like her.
AnonymousRecluse mains explaining that she's better than Revenant due to innate FP restoration (they spend most of the fight consuming residues and using magic cocktail). Seriously, I have way easier time playing Rev solo. Recluse is great glass cannon support in coop, but killing bosses solo with her takes so much time.

AnonymousIs ranni's full moon in this game? I've only seen Rennala's full moon on staffs. Hmm.

AnonymousSince this guide doesn't mention it, the FP regain is always 20 FP regardless of level

Anonymousi've only encountered two types of Recluse players: those that don't know what to do like 90% of the run and marking churches on the other side of the map for no reason and those that are hard carrying the run. No inbetween

AnonymousThis might be the stupidest complaint ever, but I hate her surge sprinting animation. Like, her "rolls" have her magically glide across the floor. Why not have her surge sprinting animation be her gliding across the floor instead of just booking it? It would fit her more magical nature a lot more. Plus, it would make a lot more sense since she wears a dress. I don't know much about dresses but something tells me running at full-nelson with a skirt that falls down to your ankles is just a recipe for disaster.

Use shield + shield incantations or the mystical scholars shield. All hail scholars shield.
Use scholars shield. + any elemental weapon.
