Nuribotoke is a Boss in Nioh 3. It resembles to a gigantic statue possessed by a very powerful Yokai, and is the final boss on the Accursed Temple (Honnoji) Crucible. Bosses are powerful enemies usually encountered at the end of a mission, posing as one of the final challenges in missions during the game.

Nuribotoke is a lacquer-like yokai that resides within statues of Yama, the judge of the underworld. Its preference for lurking within statues can be attributed either to the ability to attack defenseless people as they pray, or out of some desire to be revered like the Buddha. The word "nuri" is typically used for objects that have been coated in lacquer, and so the statues in which this yokai reside often appear as though they have been repaired with the durable coating.

Nioh 3 Nuribotoke Boss Guide

Nuribotoke Fight Strategy

Nuribotoke's battle strategy revolves around its two battle modes. The default stance is Possessed Statue mode, where it moves slower than usual for a boss, but make no mistake: once its attacks catches you, it will deal heavy damage.

When Nuribotoke is in its default stance, we recommend maximizing the Samurai mode's advantages in combat. Nuribotoke's heavy damage can be deflected more effectively to help sustain you during this combat phase. Whenever Nuribotoke is charging an attack, it is best to reposition yourself and catch that perfect timing to punish it with a counterattack.

As you effectively bring down its HP to about 60%, Nuribotoke will show its True Demon Form, and this is where the fight gets a little bit tougher. It enables him to move quickly while still dealing a lot of damage when hit. This is where we recommend using the Shinobi (Ninja) mode to take advantage of its agile movements and aerial combo attacks. This will help you match its speed and deal damage on Nuribotoke as much as you could through aerial combos, then reposition swiftly as needed to avoid getting hit by its attacks.

It is also important to watch out carefully for your HP bar if you get hit, step out of the battle when needed and be strategic with using your Elixirs to restore HP. Being caught in Nuribotoke's attacks often inflict a serious amount of damage and if your HP is at a critical level, his next attack could be fatal.

One of his attacks is the Grab and Smash Attack. Nuribotoke grabs you, places you on the ground, and smashes you with both fists. This attack is linear and cannot be interrupted, but you can evade it with a sidestep to avoid being grabbed.

Another move is the Extending Arm Jab. Nuribotoke performs a jab and extends his arm, dealing heavy damage even from a distance. You can evade this attack by using a sidestep, back slide, or dash to relocate yourself.

He also uses a Smash Attack, where he slams his hand on the ground to deal damage. You can sidestep to avoid the slam, then follow up with your own attack to deal damage.

Another attack is Charge. Nuribotoke extends his arm forward, clings to the ground, and moves in that direction, damaging everything in his path. Sidestep to dodge this move and then attack him from behind.

He can perform Fire Bolt, where he shoots five fireballs in one direction. You can avoid this by sidestepping away just before the fireballs hit the ground.

Another ranged attack is Fire Ball. Nuribotoke charges a large fireball and shoots it, causing area damage. This fireball moves slowly and is more predictable than Fire Bolt, so sidestep or relocate away from the area where it lands.

He also performs Ring of Fire. Nuribotoke slams the ground and summons a ring of fire that spreads outward. Leap away once the fire approaches, then dash forward to attack him.

Another move is Electricity Summon. Nuribotoke stomps his right leg, causing multiple bolts of electricity to strike from above. As soon as you see him about to stomp, run behind him to avoid being hit.

He uses Hand Chop as well. Nuribotoke raises his left arm while it is bent and then chops toward you. When you see him raise his left hand, wait briefly before using your dodge ability. Dodging too early may still allow him to turn and hit you.

Another attack is Electricity Smash. Nuribotoke raises his right arm and smashes the ground with his wooden baton, summoning bolts of electricity that spread in a circular pattern. Parts of the ground will glow, so avoid those glowing spots to prevent damage.

Finally, he performs a Swirling Attack. Nuribotoke stretches his body upward and flails his upper body around to hit in all directions. The reach is mid range, so create more distance to avoid being hit.

Second Encounter

There will be a second encounter with Nuribotoke, which will take place during the period of the Final Battle of Edo, 1622 CE. During this second encounter with Nuribotoke, he will still be using the same movements and attacks.

Nuribotoke will also be powering up his abilities during this second encounter, so make sure to keep your guard up and utilize your guarding abilities to minimize the damage being taken or even avoid them. It is also highly recommended that you maximize the use of your Living Artifact and Soul Core abilities to efficiently inflict damage to Nuribotoke's health.

During your second encounter with Nuribotoke, he will be performing a Burst Attack, wherein he will try to smash you with one of his hands. You will also see that before he smashes you with his hand, his body will be surrounded by a red aura. You can cancel or repel his Burst Attack as long as you properly execute your Burst Break ability on time.
