Scampuss are special NPCs that you can interact with in Nioh 3. These are yokai that have taken the form of a particularly corpulent and round cat, with different coat colorings. The calico-coated Scampuss, or a tri-colored one, will run away upon trying to pet them. All Scampusses will lead the player to a form of discovering valuables or important loot before you can pet them. Upon fulfilling this interaction, a Scampuss provides the player with a reward.

Scampuss General Information in Nioh 3
The Scampuss can be found in different Locations while playing. They will appear in Locations where they can move around quickly and pose a movement challenge to the player. Chasing after a scampuss will reward players with various Items, like a Young Samurai's Locks (for unlocking Samurai Skills) and encounters that will help them with their progression. Interacting with a Scampuss also raises the exploration level.
Known Scampuss Coat Coloring:
- Calico (White base coating with hints of orange and black)
- Kuroi Neko (Black base coating with hints of grey and white)
- Chinchilla (Pale white undercoat with darker colored tips)
- Blue (Grey base coating with hints of light color on its belly)
- Bombay (Glossy black base coat, round golden yellow eyes)
- Tortoiseshell (Coat coloring is similar to tortoiseshell pattern)

Finding a Scampuss, it will try to lure you to a certain location. You may encounter and defeat some Yokai along the path as it leads you to a location where you will receive a reward and great loots. Scampusses' movement and behavior patterns differ according to their coat coloring.

Near the Prospect Hill Shrine
- Found next to a path near the Prospect Hill Shrine. After petting it, it will run toward the cliff and lead you towards a soldier's corpse that you can inspect to get random loot. Following this Calico Scampuss and petting it again will reward you with 1x Ninja's Locks, 1x Yokai Teardrop, and Scampuss Furball. [Nioh 3 Map]

Near the Tokaido Shrine
- Found next to a path near the Tokaido Shrine. After petting it, it will run toward a roof of a house where there are a few Yokai nearby. Following this Calico Scampuss and petting it again will reward you with 1x Yokai Teardrop, 1x Samurai's Locks and Scampuss Furball. [Nioh 3 Map]

Forest of Souls Shrine Scampuss
Near the Forest of Souls Shrine
- Found on the path near the Forest of Souls Shrine. After petting it, it will run toward a cliff on the woods heading further south. Following this Scampuss and petting it again will reward you with 1x Yokai Teardrop, 1x Samurai's Locks and a Scampuss Furball. [Nioh 3 Map]

Near Hamamatsu Castle Otemon Gate
- Found on a corner while walking on the path near Hamamatsu Castle - Otemon Gate Shrine. You can access this area after you purify the Hamamatsu Crucible, which gives you access to the western part of the Hamamatsu region. From the Hamamatsu Castle - Otemon Gate Shrine, walk south and on the corner near the stone stairs you will see the Scampuss on the left side. Following this Chinchilla Scampuss and petting it again will reward you with 1x Samurai's Locks, 1x Yokai Teardrop, and a Scampuss Furball. [Nioh 3 Map]

Near the Torii Bridge, west of Lake Sanaru
- Found on a Torii Bridge that leads to the isle on the west of Lake Sanaru. You can access this area after you purify the Crucible Spike. Following this Blue Scampuss and petting it again will reward you with 1x Ninja's Locks, 1x Yokai Teardrop and a Scampuss Furball. [Nioh 3 Map]

Beside a statue, near the Mikatagahara Six Jizo
- Found beside a statue when heading up the stairs near the Six Jizo statue in Mikatagahara. It will lead you back to the location of the Six Jizo statue in Mikatagahara, where you will eliminate a few strong summoned Yokai. Finishing the objective given by this Calico Scampuss and petting it again will reward you with 1x Samurai's Locks, 1x Yokai Teardrop, and a Scampuss Furball. [Nioh 3 Map]

Beside a statue, near the Mikatagahara Six Jizo
- As you enter the area of Lake Hamana, you will find the Scampuss on the road. It will lead you to the Crucible Spike nearby, and you will need to take out the strong Yokai to clear that Crucible Spike. Following this Blue Scampuss and petting it afterward will reward you with 1x Ninja's Locks, 1x Yokai Teardrop, and a Scampuss Furball. [Nioh 3 Map]

Northwest of Iinoya Pass Shrine
- Can be found on one of the stone platforms when exploring the northwest area from the Iinoya Pass Shrine. Following this Kuroi Neko Scampuss and petting it afterward will reward you with 1x Ninja's Locks, 1x Yokai Teardrop, and a Scampuss Furball. Beware of Yokai around this area. [Nioh 3 Map]

Northwest of Driftwood Fortress Shrine
- Found northwest of the Driftwood Fortress Shrine. From the shrine's location, walk northwest. You will find a small wrecked house near the stony platforms where you will find a Small Treasure Chest inside. Traverse upward through the stony platforms and you will find the Scampuss on the roof. Petting it will lead you to a campfire beside the Sudama. You may encounter the One-eyed Oni and Gaki boss on the way to the Sudama's camp. Following this Kuroi Neko Scampuss and petting it afterward will reward you with 1x Ninja's Locks, 1x Yokai Teardrop, and a Scampuss Furball. [Nioh 3 Map]

Northeast of Filthy Flooded Street Shrine
- Found northeast of the Filthy Flooded Street Shrine. From the shrine's location, walk northeast. You will find a wrecked house near the Shrine and you will find the Scampuss on top of the roof. - Found on the east of the Gion Grove Shrine. From the shrine's location, walk east. You will find this Tortoiseshell Timid Scampuss beside the grass. Keep in mind that you need to stay hidden on a safe distance when following a Timid Scampuss. Following this Tortoiseshell Timid Scampuss and petting it afterward will reward you with 1x Samurai's Locks, 1x Yokai Teardrop, and a Scampuss Furball. [Nioh 3 Map]

Northwest of Shrine Walk Greatwood
- Found on the left corner after climbing the stairs near the Sudama found on Shrine Walk Greatwood. Keep in mind that you need to stay hidden on a safe distance by using the grass when following a Timid Scampuss. - Found on the left corner of a stony platform when walking on the eastern part of the Mibu Temple. It will lead you to a watchtower where you will be fighting against a few stong Yokai enemies. - Found on the elevated platform when entering the eastern area of the Palace from the Maruta Riverbed Shrine. It will lead you to the Six Jizo shrine in Kyoto Imperial Palace, where you will be fighting against a few stong Yokai enemies.
