NPCs in Nioh 3 are the non-playable characters that the player can encounter while playing the game. NPCs are the inhabitants of the world, with each one playing a role that can affect the player's gameplay and progression. NPCs are often found in strategic locations, with some of them offering quests that will grant players a reward upon completing the objectives. This page will feature a list of all the NPCs that are present in the game, and the missions in which they can be encountered, if available.
NPCs in Nioh 3
Anayama Nobutada
Anayama Nobutada was a general in service to Takeda Shingen during the Warring States period. He later became a monk and went by the name of Anayama Baisetsu.
Fuma Kotaro
A ninja serving the Sagami's Hojo clan. He is hiding out in the ruins to do recon on both Tokugawa and Takeda, but Takeda's army killed his men, so he takes revenge on those army men.
Hattori Hanzo
A ninja serving the Tokugawa family. His real name is Masanari.
The name “Hanzo” is a hereditary title passed down through generations of ninja leaders from Iga Province (present-day western Mie Prefecture), inherited from his father, Masanari.
Himiko
An ancient queen said to possess mystical powers.
She became the ruler of Yamatai Kingdom, succeeding the war-driven male king.
Born with a natural talent for Kido, a form of sorcery, she is said to have guided her people.
Hiruko
Hiruko was a former king of Yamatai, and Himiko's younger brother.
Since his youth, Hiruko had always felt inferior to his sister, Himiko, who was skilled Onmyo mage, which led to him constantly flaunting his own strength. After becoming king, he tried using the Great Spirit Stone, Yamatai's source of prosperity, to wage war on other countries.
Honda Tadakatsu
A Sengoku period samurai under Tokugawa Ieyasu, commonly known by the nickname Heihachiro.
Ii Naotora
The Head of the Ii Clan. She was a former nun, but chose to join Tokugawa Ieyasu as a commander to stop the invasion of Takeda Shingen.
Kajiwara Kagetoki
Kajiwara Kagetoki was a military commander from the late Heian period and a vassal of Minamoto no Yoritomo.
Kosaka Masanobu
Kosaka Masanobu was a chief retainer of the Takeda and was also one of the Takeda's Four Vassals. He was also said to have used the pseudonym Danjo and is occasionally referred to as Kosaka Danjo
Kusumoto Ine
Kusumoto Ine was the first Japanese woman to study Western medicine and become a doctor. Her specialty was obstetrics.
Matsunaga Hisahide
Despite his knack of betrayal and trickery, he was also known as a great lover of the arts, particularly the way of tea. He had a great collection of rare tea utensils that he had sought out himself.
Minamoto no Yoritomo
The head of the Seiwa Genji clan who drove the Taira clan to extinction. After his father was defeated and killed in battle against the Taira, Yoritomo was exiled to Izu Province (present-day Shizuoka Prefecture).
Minamoto no Yoshitsune
A warrior of the late Heian period who played a pivotal role in the Genpei War, leading the Minamoto clan to victory. His childhood name was Ushiwakamaru.
Naito Masatoyo
Naito Masatoyo was a chief retainer of the Takeda and was also one of the Takeda's Four Vassals
Nasu no Yoichi
Nasu no Yoichi was a general during the Heian period and a vassal to Minamoto no Yoritomo. It is said his real name was Munetaka, but the name Yoichi means one more than ten, a nickname referencing Yoichi's status as the eleventh son.
Okita Soji
Okita Soji was the captain of the Shinsengumi's First Squad.
He was also old friends with the Shinengumi's commander, Kondo Isami, and vice commander, Hijikata Toshizo. His sword skilles were unparalleled among the Shinsengumi, and loyalists feared him for his incredible swordsmanship.
Saito Fuku
Takechiyo’s wet nurse, commonly known as Fuku.
She is the daughter of Saito Toshizo, a chief retainer of Akechi Mitsuhide, and served as an Onmyo Mage under the monk Tenkai.
Sawamura Yasusuke
Sawamura Yasusuke was an Iga ninja from the Todo clan in the Tsu domain (present-day Tsu City, Mie prefecture) in the Bakamatsu period. His nickname was Jinzaburo
Senji Toyo
A blacksmith found within the Eternal Rift. She had lost her memory and could not recall who she was or why she was in the rift. However, something about working with blacksmithing tools seemed to calm her, so she welcomed Takechiyo as a customer at her forge.
Shinran
Shinran was a Buddhist monk who lived from the late Heian period to the early Kamakura period. While his real name remain unknown, some claim his mother was one of Minamoto no Yoshitomo's daughter, or even that he was a nephew of Minamoto no Yoritomo.
Shizuka Gozen
Shizuka Gozen was a woman who supported and remained at Minamoto no Yoshitsune's side even during battle. She was a shrine maiden and a type of dancer known as a shrabyoshi, and some claim she was even Yoshitsune's wife.
Sudama
A friendly yokai who appears at different locations to trade goods and accept Yokai Teardrops exchanges from the player.
Sugitani Zenjubo
Sugitani Zenjubo was a peerless marksman of the Warring States period and is well known for attempting to snipe Oda Nobunaga. Though he managed to graze Nobunaga, Zenjubo failed to kill his mark and this became a wanted man.
Takasugi Shinsaku
He was an exceedingly dynamic man, being said to move like lightning and appear like a sudden storm, and he led a group of loyalist shock troopers known as the Kiheitai. Very talented in combat, he used the latest handguns and Yagyu Shinkage sword techniques.
Takeda Shingen
A Sengoku daimyo from Kai Province (present-day Yamanashi Prefecture), famously known as the “Tiger of Kai” and feared as the strongest warlord of the era.
Tatsumaro the Dung Lover
Tatsumaro suddenly struck by a fit of madness, insisting the sewage was hot spring water and bathing in it. He died proclaiming he was in paradise.
Todo Heisuke
Todo Heisuke was the captain of the Shinsengumi's Eighth Squad. Heisuke was his nickname, while his given name was Yashitora
Tokugawa Ieyasu
He is the grandfather of Takechiyo and the Shogun of Edo, who is leading the fight to stop the Invasion of Takeda Shingen.
Tokugawa Kunimatsu
The grandson of Tokugawa Ieyasu, founder of the Edo Shogunate, and Takechiyo’s younger brother.
Tokugawa Yoshinobu
Tokugawa Yoshinobu was born into the Mito Tokugawa clan, which was once of the three main branches of the Tokugawa, before later being adopted by the Hitotsubashi. He went on to become the 15th shogun of the Edo shogunate.
Tomoe Gozen
Tomoe Gozen was a warrior woman in service to Minamoto no Yoshinaka.
Minamoto no Yoshitsune suspected that an aratama that appeared at a certain temple could be Tomoe Gozen.
Yagyu Munenori
The swordsmanship instructor for the Tokugawa shogunate.
His father, the swordsman Yagyu Sekishusai, gained an audience with Tokugawa Ieyasu and demonstrated the art of mutō-dori (disarming an opponent unarmed), which led both father and son to serve Ieyasu.
