Ibaraki Doji is a Boss in Nioh 3 who rampaged through Kyoto during the Heian period and serves as the subordinate of Shuten Doji, one of Japan’s three greatest yokai. Legends about her origin vary, but one account claims she was abandoned as a baby in the village of Ibaraki (modern‑day Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture) due to her grotesque features, including sharp fangs. She was later raised by Shuten Doji, who transformed her into a yokai.

Ibaraki Doji Fight Strategy

Ibaraki Doji is a type of Yokai who resembles the form of a humanoid creature, and wields the power of lightning and a long sword or daito. Ibaraki Doji is also considered to be one of the formidable enemies you will face in the lands of Hachijo during the main mission "The Oni of Rajomon".

Since Ibaraki Doji is a type of Yokai, she will be utilizing the power that was given to her and will perform different sets of attacks and abilities. One of the most common attacks of Ibaraki Doji is her sword-poking and slash attack.

She will rush towards your position, and the first thing that she will do is try to poke you with her long sword, and afterwards, she will perform a slash attack, and while spinning in a clockwise motion, she will also release a lightning attack.

Another form of melee attack that Ibaraki Doji commonly uses is the quick slash attack, wherein she will try to slash you with her long sword for up to three times. Make sure that your guard is alway up during this attack, as it can inflict a good amount of damage to your health if this attack lands on you.

Doji will also be utilizing the power of lightning to inflict damage on your health. You will notice that she will put her long sword above her head, charges it with lightning, then immediately uses her long sword to release two quick lightning projectiles towards your position.

The most efficient way to avoid taking damage from this attack is to move in the opposite direction of the attack.

Doji can also perform a combo attack, in which she will use both of her lightning hand and long sword to try and inflict damage to your health. She will begin by trying to grab you with her lightning hand, then quickly switches stance and performs multiple slash attacks, and for the last part of this attack, Doji will switch back to his lightning hand, extends it range, performing a hand smash attack.

Another form of lightning attack that Doji will be performing is the lightning hand clone attack. Doji will summon two more lightning hands, perform a sweeping attack, and follow it with a quick sword slash. To avoid taking damage from this attack, make sure to get away from the Doji as quickly as you can.

Doji has another form of lightning attack, in which multiple lightning objects appear, and a lightning hand emerges from each. Move away from these lightning objects to avoid taking damage.

Doji will also use her lightning hand to grab and inflict damage on your health. If Doji were to grab you with her lightning hand, she would drag you to the ground and then stomp you with her feet. When Doji is about to grab you, move on to the opposite side of the attack to avoid being grabbed.

This attack can also kill you in an instant if your health is lower than fifty percent.

Another type of combo attack that Doji performs is the lightning hand, slash and smash attack. Doji will try to sweep you first with her lightning hands, and afterwards, she will quickly perform a slash attack, and for the last part of this attack, she will spin and then move backwards, and three gigantic lightning hands will try to smash you, which also produces explosive lightning strikes.

One of Doji's deadliest attacks is her Burst Attack, wherein she puts her long sword on her shoulder and raises her right foot, then stomps the ground. She will also be surrounded by a red aura, an indication that she is about to perform a Burst Attack.

You can always repel this attack as long as you perfectly execute your Burst Break ability.

Doji can also use her lightning hand in performing a lightning whip attack. This lightning whip attack has a very wide range and moves in a clockwise and counterclockwise motion. Also, multiple lightning hands will perform a sweeping attack as Doji uses her lightning whip.

When Doji uses this attack, it is highly recommended that you move away from her as quickly as you can, so you could avoid taking damage.

The slash and lightning attack is another type of attack that can cause a significant amount of damage to your health. Doji will start by trying to slash you with her long sword, and quickly follow it up with another slash attack that also releases a wave of lightning.

Before the lightning wave reaches your position, make sure to jump to avoid getting hit by this attack.

Another deadly attack that Doji will perform is the gigantic lightning hand attack. You will notice that Doji will pause for a very short period of time, summoning a gigantic lightning hand behind her back, producing lightning strikes in front of her, and for the last part of this attack, the gigantic lightning hand will try to smash you to the ground.

The leap, slash, and sweep attack is also Doji's most commonly used attack. She will start with leaping towards your position, then eventually slashing you with her long sword, and following it up with a sweeping lightning hand attack.

Most of Ibaraki Doji's attacks are empowered by lightning, so make sure to plan your moves and attacks before engaging. Also, to efficiently inflict maximum damage to her health, make sure to utilize your Living Artifact and Soul Core abilities.

Second Encounter

There will be a second encounter with Ibaraki Doji, which will happen during the myth "Sealed in the Stone Urn", wherein Doji will try to reclaim her lost arm. You must prevent Doji from retrieving her arm so she won't regain her true power.

During the second encounter with Ibaraki Doji, she will be performing her previous movements and attacks. Do not be too confident with this second encounter, as Doji is still deadly and dangerous and can instantly kill you with her attacks.

Doji will be performing a Burst Attack during your second encounter. You will notice that her body will start to be surrounded by a red aura, and afterwards, multiple lightning objects start to appear on the battlefield. This attack can cause serious damage if you are unable to avoid it. To cancel or repel this attack, make sure to properly execute your Burst Break ability.

Another form of Burst Attack that Doji will be using is when she pauses for a very short period of time, charging for a powerful sword-poking attack. You will also see a red aura start to envelop her body again, an indication of an impending Burst Attack.

To maximize your damage output, it is highly recommended that you utilize the use of your Living Artifact and Soul Core abilities, as these skills are proven to be effective during boss fights. 

Ibaraki Doji Attacks & Counters

Sword-Poking and Lightning Slash Attack

The Sword-Poking and Lightning Slash Attack is one of the most commonly used attacks by Doji. Doji will rush towards your position while poking you with her long sword, and afterwards, she will try to slash you with her long sword as she spins in a clockwise motion. To avoid this attack, make sure to utilize your blocking and parrying ability so you can avoid taking damage.

Quick Slash Attack

The Quick Slash Attack is where Doji will attack you with her long sword for up to three times. You can also block and parry this attack to avoid taking damage.

Lighting Projectile Attack

The Lightning Projectile Attack is when Doji places her long sword above her head, charging it with lightning, and eventually pointing it towards you while releasing two quick lightning projectiles at your position. To avoid taking damage from this attack, move sideways or in the opposite side of the direction of the attack.

Lightning Hand and Slash Attack

The Lightning Hand and Slash Attack is an attack where Doji first tries to grab you with her lightning hand, and eventually switches stance to perform multiple slash attacks, and another follow-up attack is where Doji switches back to her lightning hand, performing a hand smash attack.

Lighting Hand Clone Attack

The Lightning Hand Clone Attack is when Doji summons two lightning hands, performing a sweeping attack, and a quick sword slash attack as a follow through. It is highly recommended that you move away from Doji as quickly as you can so you can avoid taking damage from this attack.

Multiple Lightning Attacks

The Multiple Lightning Attack is when Doji summons multiple light objects. Each of these lightning objects will also release a lightning hand, which can attack you in every direction. To avoid taking damage from this attack, move away from the lightning objects.

Lighting Hand Grab Attack

The Lightning Hand Grab Attack is where Doji tries to grab you with her lightning hand, and if she can grab you, she will then drag you to the ground and stomp you with her feet. When Doji is about to release her lightning hand towards your position, move sideways to avoid being grabbed.

Lightning Hand, Slash, and Smash Attack

The Lightning Hand, Slash, and Smash Attack is a type of combo attack, wherein Doji will first sweep you with her lightning hand, then switch to her long sword, performing a slash attack. And as the last part of the attack, Doji will spin and move backwards, and she will summon three gigantic lightning hands that will try to smash you and also release explosive lightning strikes. To avoid taking damage from this attack, make sure to maximize your blocking, parrying, and dodging ability.

Lighting Whip Attack

The Lightning Whip Attack is when Doji uses her lightning hand to try to whip you. This lightning whip will cover a great area and moves in a clockwise and counterclockwise motion. As the lightning whip tries to strike you, multiple lightning hands will also appear and perform a sweeping attack. When Doji uses this attack, get away from her as quickly as you can to avoid taking damage.

Slash and Lightning Wave Attack

The Slash and Lightning Attack is when Doji tries slash you with her long sword as the first attack, then quickly follow it up with another slash attack that produces a lightning wave. You can block the first attack and not take any damage, and as for the lightning wave, make sure to jump before the wave reaches you so you can avoid taking damage.

Gigantic Lightning Hand Attack

The Gigantic Lightning Hand Attack is where Doji summons a giant lightning hand behind her back, then lightning strikes start to bombard the front side of Doji, and as for the last part of this attack, the gigantic lightning hand will try to smash you to the ground. To avoid taking damage from this attack, back away from Doji as fast as you can.

Leap, Slash, and Sweep Attack

The Leap, Slash, and Sweep Attack is when Doji lunges towards your position, trying to slash you with her long sword and follow it up with a sweeping attack. Make sure to keep your guard up during this attack to avoid taking damage.

Burst Attack (Second Encounter)

One of Doji's Burst Attacks is when she distances herself from you, and then her body starts to be surrounded by a red aura. Afterwards, multiple lightning objects start to appear on the battlefield. These lightning objects will explode and can cause serious damage. To avoid taking damage from this attack, make sure to properly execute your Burst Break ability to repel or cancel Doji's Burst Attack.

Second Burst Attack (Second Encounter)

Doji's Second Burst Attack is when she pauses and stays stationary, charging for a powerful sword-poking attack. Her will will again be surrounded by a red aura, an indication that she is about to use her Burst Attack. To cancel or repel this attack, make sure to properly execute your Burst Break ability.
