In Nioh 3, you will encounter different enemies and bosses as you travel through different eras. These bosses are formidable foes with unique sets of abilities and fighting styles that present a challenge for players to overcome. As you progress through the game, you will encounter the following types of Bosses in Nioh 3:
Main Mission Bosses
Nioh 3 Main Mission Bosses are the ones that play a pivotal role in the story progression, which will eventually lead to an ending. These types of bosses are encountered as players progress Objectives and Main Missions, where they must travel to an era, and purify the crucible that threatens the future of humanity.
By taking on the Main Mission Bosses, the player will be able to unlock additional regions that they can explore and even earn rewards that can boost their Stats, Weapons, and Armor.
Side Mission Bosses
Side Mission Bosses in Nioh 3 are formidable enemies that are not tied to the main story. These bosses are encountered while completing side missions, or exploring optional locations. Side Mission Bosses have their unique storylines, which occur separately from the main story narrative.
Masters
Masters in Nioh 3 are powerful enemies that will impart weapon skills or unique equipment when defeated. These Masters are highly skilled in their combat style, and they present an opportunity for players to earn rewards that will improve their equipment loadout.
Bosses' Drops and Rewards in Nioh 3
Bosses in Nioh 3 will drop different Items when defeated. This includes Weapons, Armor, Accessories, and Soul Cores. The drops from these bosses can range from different rarities, like Common, Uncommon, Rare, Exotic, and Divine.
These drops are helpful in improving your Stats and Equipment, for you to be more effective during your exploration, and while progressing Missions.
For some encounters, players will also receive Completion Rewards. These rewards are acquired from completing Missions where an objective requires the player to defeat a specific boss.
Bosses' Attack Types in Nioh 3
During boss fights in Nioh 3, Bosses can perform a special attack type called Burst Attack. This is a deadly attack that they use to eliminate their targets during battles. One way to identify that a boss is about to use their Burst Attack, is when they start to be surrounded by a Red Aura.
This type of attack cannot be dodged or parried with regular movements, such as Deflect or Evade. However, you can counter this boss move by using Style Shift (Samurai to Ninja, or vice versa) at the right time. This is called the Burst Break, which, when executed at the right time, will cancel the attack, and inflict damage to them.
Later on, the player can also perform a Burst Break with their Guardian Spirit Skills.
How to Identify Bosses in Nioh 3
Bosses in Nioh 3 can be easily identified by just looking at their health bar. Normally, for regular enemies, you will only see a small health bar above their heads, without their names. Unlike for bosses, their names will be shown on top of their health bar, at the top of the screen.

Aggrieved Warrior

All-Seeing Mage
The All-Seeing Mage is a type of warrior who wields both magic and a sword. The All-Seeing Mage is also known for wearing a Kitsune Mask, which hides his identity. Before the fight with the All-Seeing Mage, you will see him first praying at one of the temples in Kamo Village, west of the Funaokayama Shrine, together with some other mages.
Anayama Nobutada
Anayama Nobutada is one of the Formidable Enemies you will encounter in Futamata before you reach the Futamata Castle. You will see him guarding the temple together with his men. Nobutada is a formidable Samurai who wields two swords and is considered to be ruthless and will stop at nothing when it comes to eliminating his enemies.
Baba Nobuharu
This is a large corrupted boss that is armed with an axe and uses projections of itself to guide him with some of his attacks. This boss is located in Futamata during The Battle of Futamata Castle quest, and is also mentioned during the Depicting the Tiger of Kai quest.
Blood-Spurting Ogin
The Blood-Spurting Ogin is a female warrior who resembles the abilities of an Ascetic Master. This Warrior guards one of the enemy outposts in the regions of Hamamatsu Hill.
Bloodedge Demon
Bloodedge Demons are powerful yokai spawned from the combined grudges of slain Revenants. These beings possess two hind arms and two front arms, a configuration perhaps owed to their creation from the bodies of multiple Revenants. Many compare their unusual appearance and horrific strength to Asura, the three—faced and six—armed god of war.
Cavern Ascetic
The Cavern Ascetic is an ascetic monk spirit who dwells in the depths of the Haunting Caves in the Maisaka region. This monk is known for his determination to master the arts of Shugendo ascetism.
Death Veil
The Death Veil is a gargantuan yokai that blocks out the sky. In the picture scroll "Hyakki Yagyo Night Parade of One Hundred Demons, " the yokai seem to flee when the sun rises, but it is rumored that the sun in the drawing is actually a depiction of the Death Veil. The Death Veil's name originates from an inauspicious period in the Chinese zodiac.
Demon of Envy
The Demon of Envy was born when the jealousy Tokugawa Kunimatsu held toward Takechiyo fused with Kunimatsu's spirit. This spirit is known as an "ikiryo," or a living human soul that moves of its own accord. The Tale of Genji contains a story about the prideful Lady Rokujo being unable to express her love for Hikaru Genji until her feelings grew too powerful and created an ikiryo that cursed and killed Hikaru Genji's wife, Aoi no Ue.
Demon of Obsession

Enenra
Enenra is a type of yokai whose appearance is covered in darkness and smoke, born from the resentment of people who cannot accept their untimely death. Enenra is believed to be a master of no form, and he can take the life out of anyone using his power of darkness and smoke.
Enki
An Enki is a monkey that has been transformed into a yokai by Spirit Stones after a lifetime of cruelty and abuse by humans. This imposingly large and intelligent yokai has a single horn on its head that is said to be the source of its power. This horn also differentiates Enki from the other simian yokai known as hihi, said to originate from monkeys that have lived an incredibly long life.
Fuma Kotaro
Fuma Kotaro is the mysterious ninja in the region of Iinoya. Fuma Kotari is a contracted shinobi under the Sagami's Hojo Clan.
Gaki
Gaki is a yokai that was once human, cast down to Gakido upon dying due to the sins it committed during its lifetime. Gakido is described as a realm of eternal starvation and suffering for those in the afterlife. The pitiful Gaki is unable to eat normally, as consuming regular food will cause its body to burst into flame.
Gaki Chief
The Gaki Chief is a gigantic humanoid creature with elongated arms and feet, and its body is covered with fiery crystals. The Gaki Chief acts not just as a boss but also as a regular enemy, and is sometimes seen guarding an enemy base.
Gozuki
Gozuki is a bull headed yokai that appears alot on the depictions of hell. It is said to appear in our world even when its official underworld duties do not call for it, simply desiring to commit acts of evil. It is said that much like Mezuki, Gozuki also fell into hell and was sentenced by Yama to servitude.
Great Tengu
The Great Tengu is a tengu with superlative spiritual power. They are revered as mountain gods in many regions across Japan. Yamabushi ascetic monks who acquire incredible power through their harsh training are said to become Great Tengu after death, which may explain why Great Tengu wear their peculiar headgear.
Green Shadow's Blade
The Green Shadow's Blade is one of the Formidable Enemies (Bosses) and is considered to be a legendary Samurai. The Green Shadow's Blade is often seen guarding enemy camps and will immediately kill anyone who dares to step foot on their camp.
Hattori Hanzo (Boss)

Hattori Hanzo is actually an NPC initially and becomes a boss when he reminds your character of the promise you made to train with him.
Hijikata Toshizo

Hijikata Toshizo is a boss you encounter within Kiyomizu. He can be seen lying on the ground before the fight and is equipped with dual katanas.
Hino-Enma
Hino-Enma is believed to be a humanoid creature that enchants her victims with her beauty, luring them into the caves and sucking the life out of them. Hino-Enma's favorite victims are younger men, as she believes that younger men offer the freshest lifeforce.
Hiruko
Hiruko was a former king of Yamatai and Himiko's younger brother. Since his youth, Hiruko had always felt inferior to his sister, Himiko, who was a skilled Onmyo mage, which led him to constantly flaunt his own strength. After becoming king, he tried using the Great Spirit Stone, Yamatai's source of prosperity, to wage war on other countries.
Honda Tadakatsu
Honda Tadakatsu is a Sengoku period Samurai during the ruling of Tokugawa Ieyasu, and Tadakatsu is considered to be one of the most trusted men of Ieyasu. Tadakatsu is also known for his strength in battles, and many have witnessed that Tadakatsu can finish fighting a battle unscathed.
Ibaraki Doji
Ibaraki Doji rampaged through Kyoto during the Heian period and is the subordinate of Shuten Doji, which is considered one of Japan's three greatest yokai. Ideas about her origin abound, but one claims Ibaraki Doji was abandoned as a baby in the village of Ibaraki (modern-day Ibaraki City, Osaka prefecture) due to her sharp fangs and other grotesque features. The abandoned baby was then raised by Shuten Doji, who turned her into a yokai.
Ippon-Datara (Boss)

This is a one-eyed boss encountered in Futamata during the quest "Vengeful Blade". It is also equipped with a long-handled sword and is surprisingly fast for its size.
Ishakawa Goemon

Ishakawa is a fast boss who specializes in dashing techniques and evasive maneuvers. He is consumed by the Crucible but still describes the capital as beautiful.
Ito Ittosai
Ito Ittosai is considered one of the Masters you will find in Futamata. He will only offer to duel if you go to his location alone. Ittosai is also known for wielding a large blade, which he uses to dismember his enemies.
Jakotsu-Baba

Jakotsu-Baba is a type of yokai with two massive serpent heads accompanying her. Jakotsu-Baba can freely control these serpent heads and will use them however she likes. These serpent heads also have the ability to cause fire and ice, which makes them even more deadly.
Joro-Gumo
Joro-Gumo is a spider woman Hybrid yokai. They trap people in their webs and devour them. One anecdote from the Sunpu territory claims that a man was nearly pulled into the basin of Joren Falls by a Joro-gumo lurking beneath the water.
Kajiwara Kagetoki
He is the most favored retainer and military commander of Minamoto no Yoritomo. However, after Yoritomo's death, he served Yoritomo's son, Yoriie.
Kamaitachi
The Kamaitachi is believed to have ridden through the wind, slashing and killing its enemies using its sharp-bladed arms and tail. This creature is known to move swiftly like the wind, and its unsuspecting victims won't even notice that they have been attacked.
Karasu Tengu
Karasu Tengu, giant Tengu with wings like a crow's, have been known to humans since ancient times. They have keen eyesight and hard beaks and fly about as they please, controlling the wind. They have no trouble finding purchase even on sheer cliff faces and use their control over the winds to attack when provoked, making them a troublesome foe.
Kasha
A Kasha (literally "fire chariot") is a yokai that snatches corpses and spirits them away to hell. Its name originally referred to the mythical chariot believed to transport sinners to the underworld. It is believed that this folklore got fused with the ancient Japanese belief that a cat should never be allowed in the vicinity of a corpse, resulting in the conception of Kasha as a monstrous cat that drives a fiery chariot.
Kondo Isami

Kondo Isami is a fast boss equipped with a single katana. He stands at a distance at the start, which gives you the chance to deal damage with a ranged weapon before engaging him.
Kosaka Masanobu
Kosaka Masanobu is a Samurai Warrior who is also known to be one of the Formidable Enemies in the lands of Mikatagahara during the Crucible. Masanobu is found within an enemy compound together with his soldiers.
Kusanagi
Kusanagi is a winged beast boss that's accompanied by the Red-Clothed maiden, who later on is named Himiko. They can be encountered in the Antiquity period during The Spirit Tree Village quest.

Magatsu Warrior

Mezuki

Minamoto no Yoritomo
He is the head of the Seiwa Genji Clan, who is responsible for the extinction of the Taira Clan. He expanded his power by rallying numerous warrior bands in the Kanto region, winning many battles that led to the downfall of the Taira and establishing his government in Kamakura.
Minamoto no Yoshitsune
A warrior of the late Heian period who played a pivotal role in the Genpei War, leading the Minamoto clan to victory. His childhood name was Ushiwakamaru. From a young age, he is said to have studied swordsmanship on Mount Kurama in Kyoto under the tutelage of the tengu residing there, and rumors even suggest that Yoshitsune himself was a half-yokai.
Nagakura Shinpachi

You are tasked to help Takasugi Shinsaku retrieve a sword that was taken by this boss. You encounter this boss during the Peerless Katana quest.
Naito Masatoyo
Naito Masayo acts as one of the Takeda's Four Vassals, who is found within the lands of Futamata Road. Naito Masatoyo is also considered to be one of the Formdibale Enemies.
Nasu no Yoichi
Nasu no Yoichi was a general during the Heian period and a vassal to Minamoto no Yoritomo. It is said his real name was Munetaka, but the name Yoichi means one more than ten, a nickname referencing Yoichi's status as the eleventh son.
Ninja Yoki
The Ninja Yoki is one of the masters of the Yokai, as described in the myth of "Those Who Live in the Shadows" in the Iinoya region. The Ninja Yoki also resembles the characteristics and abilities of a true ninja.
Nuppeppo
Nuppeppo is a type of yokai that is referenced to be a part of a recipe that will cure the headache of Togukawa Ieyasu. Nuppeppo can be encountered outside of Hamamatsu Castle during the myth of "Headaches", Warring States, 1572 CE.
Nuribotoke
Nuribotoke is described as humongous, a possessed Buddhist priest statue, and one of the formidable bosses during the Accursed Temple (Honnoji) Crucible. Nuribotoke is also believed to possess the power of a yokai and will extinguish his enemies at will.
Okita Soji
Okita Soji is a powerful Shinsengumi and is very close with the commander, Kondo Isami, and vice commander, Hijikata Toshizo.
One-Eyed Oni
A gigantic Oni with a single eye in the center of its face. Oni with two eyes were originally human, or at least born of ugly human passions in some way. One-eyed oni, however, are said to be the wild, bestial side of mountain gods and local spirits personified.
Onmoraki
According to ancient texts found across the land, the demon birds release shrill cries as they flap their wings, and their eyes are the only part of their large pitch-black bodies that emit any light, glimmering like flames.
Onryoki
Onryoki is a type of Yokai and is one of the Formidable Enemies you will battle in the lands of Lake Sanaru during the myth of "The Great Shogun of the Heian Era". Onryoki can be found in front of a temple southeast of Lake Sanaru - Waterside Shrine.
Otazu no Kata
Otazu no Kata is a female warrior ghost whose purpose is to guard the castles of Hamamatsu and guide its people. This female warrior wields a katana, and if death is to come for her, she wants to die on the battlefield.
Otoroshi
Boasting a massive head covered in long hair, they are characterized by a huge mouth and sharp eyes peeking through their forelocks. Their name is believed to originate from the similarly pronounced word “osoroshii,” meaning “terrifying,” which is quite appropriate given their appearance.
Raiju
Raiju is considered to be an elemental creature that manifests the power of lightning. Raiju is one of the powerful lightning elemental beasts, whose movements are as quick as lightning, and whoever dares to challenge him will face certain death.
Red Kappa

Red Kappa is a small boss enemy with a turtle shell that it uses as a weapon. Its health is not that high, but you'll need ot be careful with its attacks to avoid and surprise attacks.
Ryomen Sukuna
Ryomen Sukuna is a ghost of a former Ii clan retainer who was killed for their betrayal. Sukuna is like a two-bodied humanoid creature who wields a sword, an axe, and a bow, and uses them to eliminate his enemies.
Saito Fuku
A nurse of the Takechiyo family. She is the daughter of Saito Toshizo, a chief retainer of Akechi Mitsuhide, and served as an Onmyo Mage under the monk Tenkai.
Saito Hajime

Siato Hajime is one of the Shinsengumi bosses you fight during the Shinsengumi: Best of Five quest, who is equipped with a long sword weapon.
Sawamura Yasusuke

Sawamura is an old shinobi who has taken an interest in your character's skill. He has been cooped up for a long time and jokes around about being rusty.
Shinran
Shinran was a Buddhist monk who lived from the late Heian period to the early Kamakura period. While his real name remains unknown, some claim his mother was one of Minamoto no Yoshitomo's daughters, or even that he was a nephew of Minamoto no Yoritomo.

Takashima Shuhan

Takasugi Shinsaku
Takasugi Shinsaku is well known for being a loyalist from Choshu and is the prime leader of the elite trooper Kiheitai. He is also a talented individual when it comes to combat, as his moves are like lightning and a storm.
Takeda Shingen (Boss)
Takeda Shingen is feared as one of the strongest warlords of his era and is actually an NPC initially in Nioh 3. Through skillful warfare and diplomacy, he rapidly expanded his territory from the geographically disadvantaged Kai to Shinano (present-day Nagano Prefecture) and Suruga (central Shizuoka Prefecture).
Tokugawa Kunimatsu
Tokugawa Kunimatsu is the grandson of the ruler Tokugawa Ieyasu and is also the younger brother of Takechiyo. Kunimatsu believed that he was the only one deserving to be the next shogun. Because of his hunger for power, he will not hesitate to kill anyone who dares to confront him.
Tokugawa Yoshinobu
He is the final boss of the Scion of the Gods quest, who is merged with the Golden Shachi.
Tomoe Gozen

Tsurara-Onna

Yamainu
Yamainu are said to hide their presence and stalk people from behind before striking when their prey trip or stumble. These yokai possess terrifying explosive power and attack speed, making them nigh impossible to evade, and their Amrita-imbued claws only make matters that much worse. At the very least, destroying the claws may offer a way to defeat the beast.
Yasha
Yasha were once noblewomen, transformed into demons by Spirit Stones and their own hatred. They originally appeared in Indian folklore, sometimes as water gods, but came to Japan via the teachings of Buddhism. There is a Japanese idiom that likens the more fearsome side of a woman's personality to a Yasha. The Yasha have also been implicated in various folktales about women who performed mysterious ceremonies to obtain dark magical powers. One should beware these powers when facing a Yasha in battle.
Yoki
The Yoki is believed to be once a human turned monster by the power of Amrita. The Yoki is known for its characteristics of having a muscular build, and possesses the ability of a Samurai.

This is a large corrupted boss that is armed with an axe and uses projections of itself to guide him with some of his attacks. This boss is located in Futamata during The Battle of Futamata Castle quest, and is also mentioned during the Depicting the Tiger of Kai quest.
Takeda Shingen (Boss)
Takeda Shingen is feared as one of the strongest warlords of his era and is actually an NPC initially in Nioh 3. Through skillful warfare and diplomacy, he rapidly expanded his territory from the geographically disadvantaged Kai to Shinano (present-day Nagano Prefecture) and Suruga (central Shizuoka Prefecture).
Great Tengu
The Great Tengu is a tengu with superlative spiritual power. They are revered as mountain gods in many regions across Japan. Yamabushi ascetic monks who acquire incredible power through their harsh training are said to become Great Tengu after death, which may explain why Great Tengu wear their peculiar headgear.
Otoroshi
Boasting a massive head covered in long hair, they are characterized by a huge mouth and sharp eyes peeking through their forelocks. Their name is believed to originate from the similarly pronounced word “osoroshii,” meaning “terrifying,” which is quite appropriate given their appearance.
Ibaraki Doji
Ibaraki Doji rampaged through Kyoto during the Heian period and is the subordinate of Shuten Doji, which is considered one of Japan's three greatest yokai. Ideas about her origin abound, but one claims Ibaraki Doji was abandoned as a baby in the village of Ibaraki (modern-day Ibaraki City, Osaka prefecture) due to her sharp fangs and other grotesque features. The abandoned baby was then raised by Shuten Doji, who turned her into a yokai.
Kajiwara Kagetoki
He is the most favored retainer and military commander of Minamoto no Yoritomo. However, after Yoritomo's death, he served Yoritomo's son, Yoriie.
Minamoto no Yoritomo
He is the head of the Seiwa Genji Clan, who is responsible for the extinction of the Taira Clan. He expanded his power by rallying numerous warrior bands in the Kanto region, winning many battles that led to the downfall of the Taira and establishing his government in Kamakura.
Kusanagi
Kusanagi is a winged beast boss that's accompanied by the Red-Clothed maiden, who later on is named Himiko. They can be encountered in the Antiquity period during The Spirit Tree Village quest.
Hiruko
Hiruko was a former king of Yamatai and Himiko's younger brother. Since his youth, Hiruko had always felt inferior to his sister, Himiko, who was a skilled Onmyo mage, which led him to constantly flaunt his own strength. After becoming king, he tried using the Great Spirit Stone, Yamatai's source of prosperity, to wage war on other countries.
Takasugi Shinsaku
Takasugi Shinsaku is well known for being a loyalist from Choshu and is the prime leader of the elite trooper Kiheitai. He is also a talented individual when it comes to combat, as his moves are like lightning and a storm.
Enenra
Enenra is a type of yokai whose appearance is covered in darkness and smoke, born from the resentment of people who cannot accept their untimely death. Enenra is believed to be a master of no form, and he can take the life out of anyone using his power of darkness and smoke.
Nuribotoke
Nuribotoke is described as humongous, a possessed Buddhist priest statue, and one of the formidable bosses during the Accursed Temple (Honnoji) Crucible. Nuribotoke is also believed to possess the power of a yokai and will extinguish his enemies at will.xx
Okita Soji
Okita Soji is a powerful Shinsengumi and is very close with the commander, Kondo Isami, and vice commander, Hijikata Toshizo.
Tokugawa Yoshinobu
He is the final boss of the Scion of the Gods quest, who is merged with the Golden Shachi.
Death Veil
The Death Veil is a gargantuan yokai that blocks out the sky. In the picture scroll "Hyakki Yagyo Night Parade of One Hundred Demons, " the yokai seem to flee when the sun rises, but it is rumored that the sun in the drawing is actually a depiction of the Death Veil. The Death Veil's name originates from an inauspicious period in the Chinese zodiac.
Aggrieved Warrior
A warrior located at a temple in the Hills North of Hamamatsu Castle. He speaks of someone who toyed with the loyalties of warriors and turned them into traitors.
Baba Nobuharu

Cavern Ascetic
The Cavern Ascetic is an ascetic monk spirit who dwells in the depths of the Haunting Caves in the Maisaka region. This monk is known for his determination to master the arts of Shugendo ascetism.
Demon of Envy
The Demon of Envy was born when the jealousy Tokugawa Kunimatsu held toward Takechiyo fused with Kunimatsu's spirit. This spirit is known as an "ikiryo," or a living human soul that moves of its own accord. Enki
An Enki is a monkey that has been transformed into a yokai by Spirit Stones after a lifetime of cruelty and abuse by humans. This imposingly large and intelligent yokai has a single horn on its head that is said to be the source of its power. This horn also differentiates Enki from the other simian yokai known as hihi, said to originate from monkeys that have lived an incredibly long life.
Fuma Kotaro
Fuma Kotaro is the mysterious ninja in the region of Iinoya. Fuma Kotari is a contracted shinobi under the Sagami's Hojo Clan.
Gaki
Gaki is a yokai that was once human, cast down to Gakido upon dying due to the sins it committed during its lifetime. Gakido is described as a realm of eternal starvation and suffering for those in the afterlife. The pitiful Gaki is unable to eat normally, as consuming regular food will cause its body to burst into flame.
Gaki Chief
The Gaki Chief is a gigantic humanoid creature with elongated arms and feet, and its body is covered with fiery crystals. The Gaki Chief acts not just as a boss but also as a regular enemy, and is sometimes seen guarding an enemy base.
Hattori Hanzo (Boss)
Hattori Hanzo is actually an NPC initially and becomes a boss when he reminds your character of the promise you made to train with him.
Hijikata Toshizo
Hijikata Toshizo is a boss you encounter within Kiyomizu. He can be seen lying on the ground before the fight and is equipped with dual katanas.
Hino-Enma
Hino-Enma is believed to be a humanoid creature that enchants her victims with her beauty, luring them into the caves and sucking the life out of them. Hino-Enma's favorite victims are younger men, as she believes that younger men offer the freshest lifeforce.
Honda Tadakatsu
Honda Tadakatsu is a Sengoku period Samurai during the ruling of Tokugawa Ieyasu, and Tadakatsu is considered to be one of the most trusted men of Ieyasu. Tadakatsu is also known for his strength in battles, and many have witnessed that Tadakatsu can finish fighting a battle unscathed.
Joro-Gumo
Joro-Gumo is a spider woman Hybrid yokai. They trap people in their webs and devour them. One anecdote from the Sunpu territory claims that a man was nearly pulled into the basin of Joren Falls by a Joro-gumo lurking beneath the water.
Kamaitachi
The Kamaitachi is believed to have ridden through the wind, slashing and killing its enemies using its sharp-bladed arms and tail. This creature is known to move swiftly like the wind, and its unsuspecting victims won't even notice that they have been attacked.
Karasu Tengu
Karasu Tengu, giant Tengu with wings like a crow's, have been known to humans since ancient times. They have keen eyesight and hard beaks and fly about as they please, controlling the wind. They have no trouble finding purchase even on sheer cliff faces and use their control over the winds to attack when provoked, making them a troublesome foe.
Kasha
A Kasha (literally "fire chariot") is a yokai that snatches corpses and spirits them away to hell. Its name originally referred to the mythical chariot believed to transport sinners to the underworld. It is believed that this folklore got fused with the ancient Japanese belief that a cat should never be allowed in the vicinity of a corpse, resulting in the conception of Kasha as a monstrous cat that drives a fiery chariot.
Kondo Isami
Kondo Isami is a fast boss equipped with a single katana. He stands at a distance at the start, which gives you the chance to deal damage with a ranged weapon before engaging him.
Kosaka Masanobu
Kosaka Masanobu is a Samurai Warrior who is also known to be one of the Formidable Enemies in the lands of Mikatagahara during the Crucible. Masanobu is found within an enemy compound together with his soldiers
Kyokotsu (Boss)
This is a ghostly boss that mostly does aerial attacks. It can be encountered during the "Searching for a Spy" quest in Futamata, battling with Hattori Hanzo.
Magatsu Warrior
A boss that can be encountered at Lake Hamana during the quest "Horie's Fleeting Petals".
Mezuki
Mezuki is known to be a demon and resembles the characteristics of a horse. Mezuki can also be seen wearing samurai armor, and anyone who dares confront him will surely meet their maker.
Nagakura Shinpachi
You are tasked to help Takasugi Shinsaku retrieve a sword that was taken by this boss. You encounter this boss during the Peerless Katana quest.
Naito Masatoyo
Naito Masayo acts as one of the Takeda's Four Vassals, who is found within the lands of Futamata Road. Naito Masatoyo is also considered to be one of the Formdibale Enemies.
Ninja Yoki
The Ninja Yoki is one of the masters of the Yokai, as described in the myth of "Those Who Live in the Shadows" in the Iinoya region. The Ninja Yoki also resembles the characteristics and abilities of a true ninja.
Nuppeppo
Nuppeppo is a type of yokai that is referenced to be a part of a recipe that will cure the headache of Togukawa Ieyasu. Nuppeppo can be encountered outside of Hamamatsu Castle during the myth of "Headaches", Warring States, 1572 CE.
One-Eyed Oni
A gigantic Oni with a single eye in the center of its face. Oni with two eyes were originally human, or at least born of ugly human passions in some way. One-eyed oni, however, are said to be the wild, bestial side of mountain gods and local spirits personified.
Onmoraki
According to ancient texts found across the land, the demon birds release shrill cries as they flap their wings, and their eyes are the only part of their large pitch-black bodies that emit any light, glimmering like flames.
Onryoki
Onryoki is a type of Yokai and is one of the Formidable Enemies you will battle in the lands of Lake Sanaru during the myth of "The Great Shogun of the Heian Era". Onryoki can be found in front of a temple southeast of Lake Sanaru - Waterside Shrine.
Otazu no Kata
Otazu no Kata is a female warrior ghost whose purpose is to guard the castles of Hamamatsu and guide its people. This female warrior wields a katana, and if death is to come for her, she wants to die on the battlefield.
Red Kappa
Red Kappa is a small boss enemy with a turtle shell that it uses as a weapon. Its health is not that high, but you'll need ot be careful with its attacks to avoid and surprise attacks.
Ryomen Sukuna
Ryomen Sukuna is a ghost of a former Ii clan retainer who was killed for their betrayal. Sukuna is like a two-bodied humanoid creature who wields a sword, an axe, and a bow, and uses them to eliminate his enemies.
Saito Fuku
A nurse of the Takechiyo family. She is the daughter of Saito Toshizo, a chief retainer of Akechi Mitsuhide, and served as an Onmyo Mage under the monk Tenkai.
Saito Hajime
Siato Hajime is one of the Shinsengumi bosses you fight during the Shinsengumi: Best of Five quest, who is equipped with a long sword weapon.
Tsurara-Onna
This is one of the Yokai you encounter during the Unwavering Hope quest. This is a boss with the wings, feathers, and legs of a bird, but stands with two feet and has arms that are separate from its wings.
Yagyu Munenori (Boss)
Yagyu Munenori serves the Tokugawa shogunate as the Swordsmanship Instructor. He offers your character to train with him to hone your sword skills in the Eternal Rift. He can be seen during the boss fight, equipped with a Wooden Katana.
Yamainu
Yamainu are said to hide their presence and stalk people from behind before striking when their prey trip or stumble. These yokai possess terrifying explosive power and attack speed, making them nigh impossible to evade, and their Amrita-imbued claws only make matters that much worse. At the very least, destroying the claws may offer a way to defeat the beast.
Yoki
The Yoki is believed to be once a human turned monster by the power of Amrita. The Yoki is known for its characteristics of having a muscular build, and possesses the ability of a Samurai.
Bloodedge Demon
Bloodedge Demons are powerful yokai spawned from the combined grudges of slain Revenants. These beings possess two hind arms and two front arms, a configuration perhaps owed to their creation from the bodies of multiple Revenants. Many compare their unusual appearance and horrific strength to Asura, the three—faced and six—armed god of war.
Demon Slayer
This is a master you encounter during The Box's Guardian quest. The quest takes place during the Heian 1190 CE period at Hachijo. He does not use any weapons and relies completely on martial arts.
Fuma Kotaro
Fuma Kotaro is the mysterious ninja in the region of Iinoya. Fuma Kotari is a contracted shinobi under the Sagami's Hojo Clan.
Ishakawa Goemon
Ishakawa is a fast boss who specializes in dashing techniques and evasive maneuvers. He is consumed by the Crucible but still describes the capital as beautiful.
Ito Ittosai
Ito Ittosai is considered one of the Masters you will find in Futamata. He will only offer to duel if you go to his location alone. Ittosai is also known for wielding a large blade, which he uses to dismember his enemies.
Nasu no Yoichi
Nasu no Yoichi was a general during the Heian period and a vassal to Minamoto no Yoritomo. It is said his real name was Munetaka, but the name Yoichi means one more than ten, a nickname referencing Yoichi's status as the eleventh son.
Sawamura Yasusuke
Sawamura is an old shinobi who has taken an interest in your character's skill. He has been cooped up for a long time and jokes around about being rusty.
Shinran
Shinran was a Buddhist monk who lived from the late Heian period to the early Kamakura period. While his real name remains unknown, some claim his mother was one of Minamoto no Yoshitomo's daughters, or even that he was a nephew of Minamoto no Yoritomo.
Shishido Kagetoshi
Shishido is one of the masters located at the Kyoto Imperial Castle region who is equipped with a sickle weapon.
Sugitani Zenjubo
He is a humble gunslinger who's last mission had gone wrong. He is now a wanted man, but is interested in the idea of someone learning his skills.
Taigen Sessai
Taigen Sessai is believed to be a master and acts as a guardian to the lands of Laka Hamana. He offers his life to the land and will challenge anyone who dares to try to rule his land.
Takahashi Deishu
Takahashi is a master that you'll encounter in Nijo Castle. You'll find him sitting in the middle of the temple.
Takashima Shuhan
Shuhan is one of the masters located at the Kyoto Imperial Castle region who is equipped with a giant Hammer.
Tomoe Gozen
She apologizes for causing you trouble early on in the game and offers to share knowledge on her techniques. She mentions that in order to learn the techniques, you must put your very life on the line.
