Endings Guide for Nioh 3 provides a quick summary of the required steps in order to achieve the various endings in the game. Each ending is shaped by the player's choices in the game, their choices when interacting with NPCs and the conclusions from the Main and Side Missions.

Nioh 3 Endings Guide

While the main story of Nioh 3 is linear, players get two choose from two endings during the final mission, A Sinister End, in deciding Kunimatsu's fate. While there are two narrative endings to the story, there are no trophies, post-game content, or achievements that are locked behind a specific ending. All the collectibles, sub-missions, myths, and other content players can get will still be available to find after completing the main story once, regardless of the initial ending you choose through New Game Plus.

After defeating Hiruko for the second time and continuing progress with What Makes A Shogun, approach Kunimatsu on the ground and interact with him. You will be given a choice on whether you want to spare or execute him.

Execute Kunimatsu

If you choose to execute Kunimatsu, Takechiyo will deal the final blow, stating that the role of Shogun is his alone. The threat of the dark radiance and yokai will be resolved, and Takechiyo will take his place as Shogun as he takes the name Tokugawa Iemitsu.

Spare Kunimatsu

If you choose to spare Kunimatsu, Takechiyo will throw down the sword and Kunimatsu will attempt to take his own life but be stopped by his brother. Takechiyo has additional dialogue showing mercy towards Kunimatsu despite the darkness that he has spread throughout the different timelines. 

The ending concludes with Tekchiyo taking his rightful place as Shogun, with the direct and immediate threat to the world resolved. In a post-credit scene, it will show that Kunimatsu has taken on the role of exorcising yokai in the shadows while Takechiyo fulfills his duties as shogun.
