Shinsengumi Scheme is a Myth in Nioh 3. In Shinsengumi Scheme, the player has to gather information on what the Shinsengumi are plotting against the loyalists. Myths in Nioh 3 are story quests that consist of granting a request from the shadows of the deceased that can be completed to earn rewards. Myths are not required to reach the ending, but completing them will reward the player with various items that can help boost their character's progression or reveal secret locations.
It seems the Shinsengumi are plotting something. If it would interfere with the loyalists' plans, then it must be stopped. I should investigate before the trouble becomes too great.
How to Unlock Shinsengumi Scheme Myth in Nioh 3
- After completing the main mission, A New Era, head south of the Shimabara Pleasure District - Main Gate shrine and talk to the soul of a warrior [Nioh 3 Map]. He will ask you to find out what the Shinsengumi is planning, with their leading heading for Shichijo.

Pursuing the Shinsengumi
After starting the Shinsengumi Scheme myth, head to the marked area in Shichijo, east of your current location. To get there, follow the main path going south and navigate the rooftops to get past a Crucible Spike [Nioh 3 Map]. Destroy the spike, being guarded by an Ippon-Datara and several enemies, then keep heading east to find the Shichijo Avenue Ruins shrine [Nioh 3 Map].
Follow the path beside the shrine that heads northeast to get to an area with several enemies by the stairs. Defeat them, then head up the stairs to fight Shinsengumi Member Hattori Takeo, who performs quick slashes with telegraphed finishers with his dual katanas. Once Hattori Takeo is defeated, the transformed art, Twin Dragons Water will be unlocked. Loot the corpse nearby for an Elite Warrior's Splitstaff, then follow the path going southeast towards the marked area and use the spirit vein to go down the cliff. Follow the path to the south to reach the Shichijo Abyss - Stratum shrine [Nioh 3 Map], then use the cannon near Thomas Glover to destroy the spikes blocking the path.
Go through the path and head inside the house on the north. Loot the corpse for a Rifle Ammunition, then jump to the upper level to reach the rooftop. Before dropping down, you may explore the house on the eastern side and destroy a thin wall to reach an area with a corpse containing a Sekishu Kazusada and a random piece from the Kintaro Set. Traverse the small rooftop on the side and jump to the top of the house to find a Kodama.
Proceed to the area on the northeastern side and defeat the soldiers stationed there. Then, once the area is clear, traverse the rooftop path heading southeast until you reach the bottom. If you approach the dark energy to the north, a Nuppeppo. Defeat it, then use the nearby cannon to destroy the spikes blocking a path. Go through the path to find a tilted house — enter it, then navigate your path to a ledge outside the house to find a Kodama [Nioh 3 Map].
Return to the area where you initially dropped, then follow the path going south to find that it is blocked by spikes — go through the path with scorching marks, then jump up the platforms on the left side by the ledge to find another Kodama by the ledge on the southeast. Follow the path with scorching marks, then head inside the cave and loot the two corpses to find random pieces of equipment and to progress Shinsengumi Scheme.
Defeat the assailants
Head out of the cave, and you will be fighting Saito Hajime, who wields a longsword. This boss performs heavy attacks with his longsword, so you can fight defensively while looking for openings to retaliate. For a detailed guide on Saito Hajime's attacks, you may refer to this page.
Once Saito Hajime is defeated, talk to the spirit near the cave exit to complete Shinsengumi Scheme. You will then be rewarded with Samurai's Locks and Kobizen Odachi for completing the myth. You will also receive the Smithing Text: Kijinmaru Kunishige upon completion of the myth.
