Revenant is a Nightfarer in Nightreign. Revenant is a summoner class built around necromancy, calling ghostly allies into battle to fight alongside the player. Its focus is on supporting the rest of the team, whether that's summoning apparitions to help defend the group or to join the fight directly. Like all Nightfarers, Revenant is a predetermined class that fulfills its own distinct archetype within the game. Choosing a Nightfarer, or Class, can be considered the most important decision players make at the start of the game, since it shapes their entire approach to gameplay and style of play going forward.

  • Patch 1.02.2 Adjusted the transparency of Revenant’s summoned spirits, and also allows players to pass  through Revenant’s spirits Helen and Frederick.

Doll of the daughter of an aristocratic family that faced ruin. On a fateful night, her soul took possession of the doll's body, and she swore to avenge her disgraced lineage.

While steeped in faith, her other attributes develop at only a modest pace. Plays a supportive role in combat by summoning and manipulating spirits, which have the potential to overwhelm enemies.

How to Unlock Revenant in ER Nightreign

  • NOTE: To start the process of unlocking Revenant, players must first unlock the Duchess
  • At the Roundtable Hold, head to the Small Jar Bazaar and purchase the item Besmirched Frame for 1500 Murk. Once you have the item, open your map, and you'll see a new exclamation mark that's pinned next to a character icon near the sparring grounds of the Roundtable Hold.
  • When you approach this marked area, you'll spot a ghostly figure that you can interact with. Doing so will trigger a gameplay section where you will have to fight the Revenant and her summons. We highly recommend fighting this boss as Raider, since it can be challenging to fight her if you play classes with low HP, such as Duchess or Recluse.
  • The strategy that we have found best to win this battle is to focus the Revenant, run around and away to lure her summons further, while also dodging her incantations. The Revenant does not have that much health, so you can deal significant damage two-handing your weapon or using the weapon's skill. If this strategy does not work for you, you can opt. to fight her summons first and maintain good positioning so Sebastian doesn't hit you with his powerful ultimate attack.
  • Once you've defeated Revenant and her summons, you'll unlock her and get to play as her immediately by selecting her in the Roundtable Hold. Apart from unlocking her, you can also start her personal quest, the Revenant Remembrance. This remembrance is straightforward; you simply begin it from the journal and talk to the Guardian, but he will then immediately task you with defeating a Nightlord, which can be daunting when you first start. Completing her remembrance quest rewards players with unique vessels, relics, and garbs for the Revenant.

Key Features of Revenant in ER Nightreign

  • Weapon Preference: None
  • The Revenant is a tactical character who can summon phantoms and coordinate attacks with them.
  • One of the classes (apart from Recluse) that starts with the lowest HP. Revenant's health begins at 200HP, which means you can die easily.
  • Ensure that you stick with your team at all times and utilize your summons.
  • Revenant stats with a decent starting FP of 80 and 54 Stamina, which means you are meant to stay away from danger and support your allies from the backlines.
  • The strength of Revenant is with Faith, which makes her the highest-rated "S" Faith out of all Nightfarers. What this means is Incantations and Faith-based weapons are what players should be focused on acquiring to bring out the best of Revenant's damage.

Revenant doesn't favor any particular weapon type. As a class, she's built around tactical play, summoning phantoms and coordinating attacks alongside them rather than fighting head-on. Alongside Recluse, she's one of the classes that starts with the lowest HP in the game, beginning with just 200 HP, which means she can die fairly easily if players aren't careful. Because of that fragility, it's important to stay close to the team at all times and lean on summons rather than going it alone.

Stat-wise, Revenant starts with a decent 80 FP and 54 Stamina, reinforcing the idea that she's meant to stay out of harm's way and support allies from the backline rather than engage directly. Her real strength lies in Faith, where she holds the highest rating, an "S", out of all the Nightfarers. In practical terms, this means players looking to get the most out of Revenant's damage should prioritize picking up Incantations and Faith-based weapons.

Overall, Revenant plays as a hybrid between damaging enemies from a distance and supporting the team through spells and her unique ability to summon fallen enemies and family members. Her Intelligence scaling is enough to make use of Sorcery Spells, but she really shines when using Dragon Communion spells or other magical spells that scale primarily with Faith and Arcane. It's worth keeping in mind that Revenant isn't designed for close-range combat, performing best instead when leaning on her summons and spellcasting. Making good use of her summons is essential, whether that means having them assist directly in combat or using them as a distraction to pull enemy and boss attention away from her.

Necromancy Passive Ability

  • Raise enemy ghosts to fight as allies.
  • Necromancy is a passive ability that triggers when an enemy that has been attacked by the Revenant is slain by her or her allies. This reanimates the enemy as a phantom under her command and can work on any non-boss enemies.
  • When a phantom of a recently defeated enemy reanimates, it will assist Revenant in combat, and it will follow her for a brief time. The Phantom will only attack targets that the Revenant attacks.
  • With further testing, these phantoms will remain on the battlefield for approximately one minute and are not subject to the effects of Revenant's Ultimate Art, Immortal March. Despite its short time, several phantoms can exist on the battlefield at the same time. These phantoms can even fight alongside Revenant's family members that she summons with her Character Skill, Summon Spirit.
  • The effect of Necromancy can work on the majority of regular enemies, strong enemies, and some minor bosses like the Banished Knights, Demi-Human Chiefs, Pumpkin Heads, and more.

Immortal March Ultimate Art

  • Release vengeful ire to make self and nearby allies immortal.
  • Revenant's Ultimate Skill that builds up by doing damage and attacking.
  • A skill that can be a "clutch-moment" for your team if used at the right time.
  • This skill will make you and any living teammates (including your family member) unable to be killed for 15 seconds. During this time, any damage that would be lethal instead leaves them at 1 HP, keeping party members from being downed in combat.
    • The summoned family member will also perform a unique skill when this ultimate is used.
  • Any teammates that were downed at the time of this skill's use will be immediately revived. While the revival range is large, it is not infinite, so proper positioning is key.
    • Teammates that were revived by this skill will not receive the immortality buff, and can be downed again immediately if they are revived in the way of danger.

Nightreign Summon Spirit Skill Basic Mechanics

  1. Use your character skill by pressing the skill combination (E on PC or Triangle and L2 on PlayStation). This brings up a summoning overlay that will show three unique summons. You can now press R1 or left mouse to summon Helen, R2 or Ctrl+left mouse to summon Frederick, and L1 or right mouse to summon Sebastian.
  2. You can only have one summon active at a time. Summoning another one will simply replace your active phantom. You can press L2 on the summoning menu to send the phantom away.
  3. Each phantom will stay until defeated or if you move to a new zone. They have health bars you can see on the summon overlay. All inactive phantoms will slowly regenerate HP over time. If a phantom is defeated, it will be unavailable while it regenerates its health, only becoming available once it's over 50% HP.
  4. Your phantoms can help revive allies if they are near them and you target lock onto your ally.

ER Nightreign Summon Spirit Skill: Family Members Guide

Helen the Agile Page

  • An agile, dex-based summon who wields a rapier. Helen can perform thrusting attacks and is the only summon who has quick footwork to dodge or evade incoming enemy attacks. Best to be the first family member to summon when you start an encounter with enemies you fight in small locations or at the beginning of a boss encounter.
  • Helen is not as tanky compared to Frederick and Sebastian, so expect this summon to die quickly.
  • If you trigger Immortal March while Helen is still on the battlefield, she will use her special skill that does quick thrusting attacks in a row, faster than her usual attacks.

Frederick the Burly Cook

  • Frederick is a Pumpkin Head summon, he is a large and heavy ally who wields a large bone greathammer that can inflict blunt damage using overhead bonks and AOE swings. His attacks are best for crowd control since it can hit multiple targets at once.
  • Since he is quite tanky, he moves more slowly compared to Helen. But he makes up for it with the reach of his attacks. Depending on the situation you're in when fighting challenging foes, Frederick should be summoned mid-combat or even as the last family member summoned due to him being mobile, quite tanky, and quite impressive damage.
  • If you trigger Immortal March while Frederick is still on the battlefield, he will perform a series of 360 AoEs using his weapon, which is best used as a strong move to deal significant damage to bosses several times.

Sebastian the Doting Butler

  • Sebastian is the family member with the most powerful attacks, but is immobile. Sebastian is a giant skeleton that spawns slightly to the left of you and remains in place once spawned.
  • Sebastian lets out a low damage, belting AoE that can catch an enemy's attention.
  • He also delivers massive overhead slams and frontal AoE damage with his arms.
  • If you trigger Immortal March while Sebastian is still on the battlefield, he will let out a black stream of damage that is effective in damaging and flinching even the largest bosses.
  • Highly recommended summon to be used against Night Lords. However, there is quite a challenge in terms of trying to get the boss to focus on Sebastian since he doesn't move. Best to summon Sebastian at the right time to get the most out of his attacks.

Revenant Best Relics Guide for Nightreign

Recommended Relic Effects for Revenant

  • Strengthens family and allies when Ultimate Art is activated
  • Starlight Shards in possession at start of expedition
  • Wraith Calling Bell in possession at start of expedition
  • Max FP Permanently Increased after Releasing Sorcerer's Rise Mechanism
  • Fire/Lighting/Holy Attack Power Up
  • + Vigor
  • + Mind
  • + Faith

The primary focus for the Revenant is to manage her summons while also ensuring her survivability. Some Relics you should be looking for are Small Makeup Brush, Old Pocketwatch, Old Portrait, and Night of the Fathom. Click here to see a full build guide for Revenant.

The Old Pocketwatch Relic is a green relic that you should already have as part of the process of unlocking the Revenant. This relic restores your FP upon executing successive attacks, letting the Revenant restore FP with her default weapon (or any fast-hitting weapons you find), lending to a play style where you use spells from afar, then close the gap to regain FP. The Dexterity boost is not as relevant to her damage output, though.

The Besmirched Frame is a blue relic that you should already have as part of the process of unlocking the Revenant. It provides a +3 to Faith to aid in her overall damage output. It also briefly improves the damage you deal after taking an attack, and while it is more ideal to stay out of danger due to the Revenant's low HP, it can come in handy if you find yourself cornered and need to fight your way out.

The Small Makeup Brush Relic is a blue relic that can be obtained upon completing the Revenant's first remembrance quest. Check the walkthrough below for a full guide on her remembrance quest. This relic provides a buff depending on which family member is active - Helen gives you a 1HP per second regeneration, Frederick gives you a 10% damage boost, and Sebastian gives you 20% elemental damage negation. The second effect increases the amount of runes you and your teammates obtain to quicken the leveling up process throughout the expedition.

The Old Portrait Relic is a blue relic that can be obtained upon completing the Revenant's final remembrance quest. It comes with effects that all affect the Revenant's Ultimate Art. First, a ghostflame explosion will be triggered once you activate the Art, and you halve your current HP to fully heal your living allies. It turns the Ultimate Art into a pseudo attack and heal all at once, and even though you're reducing your own HP in the process, you're protected by your immortality buff so that you won't die immediately. It also improves the rate at which your Ultimate Art Gauge fills, letting you use it more liberally.

The Night of the Fathom Relic is a red relic that can be obtained upon defeating the Augur Night Lord for the first time. This relic provides a sizeable boost to HP, and if you heal yourself with your flask, nearby allies (including your summoned family phantoms) get healed too, making for an effective support tool.

The Dark Night of the Wise Relic is a green relic that can be purchased from the Collector Signboard after defeating the Everdark version of the Sentient Pest. It provides a base increase to maximum FP (5 Mind's worth), further increases your maximum FP by 18% every time you unlock a Sorcerer's Rise, and provides FP regeneration with successive attacks. This provides a large boost to the Revenant's FP bar, increasing her spellcasting capacity, and the FP regeneration makes her far less dependent on items to regain spent FP.

For Relic effects to seek out: "Strengthens family and allies when Ultimate Art is activated" is another Revenant-unique passive not provided by any of her Remembrance relics, and it gives the entire team a 25% damage buff for 30 seconds after using the Art. The Wraith Calling Bell can work as a FP-efficient source of ranged damage to support the Revenant's early game until you find a seal with a better offensive incantation (typically Black Flame or Discus of Light). As the Revenant has no means of restoring FP on her own like the Recluse, starting the expedition with Starlight Shards also helps with continued damage output in a prolonged fight. Gaining bonus FP after unlocking a Sorcerer's Rise is also a massive boon, and the Rises also hold a few Starlight Shards to accumulate for the big fights. You may also want to look out for compatible weapon skill alterations to switch away from White Shadow's Lure on your starting weapon. Otherwise, important stats to increase include Vigor, Mind, and Faith.

Best Relics With Fixed Effects for Revenant in Elden Ring Nightreign

Grand Drizzly Scene can be purchased from the Small Jar Bazaar at the Roundtable Hold for murk icon nightreign wiki guide 1000.  This Relic has a fixed effect, which will provide the following:

  • [Revenant] Trigger ghostflame explosion upon Ultimate Art activation
  • Faith +2
  • Arcane +2

This Relic can serve as an early substitute to the Old Portrait for players that have not completed the final remembrance quest. The ghostflame explosion turns the Ultimate Art into a burst of damage that can clear out mobs or end a fight, and the Faith and Arcane bonuses prop up the Revenant's primary source of damage and any ailment buildup from the weapons she finds.

Grand Drizzly Scene can be purchased at the Collector Signboard in the Roundtable Hold for 3 sovereign sigil icon nightreign wiki guide. This Relic has a fixed effect, which will provide the following:

  • [Revenant] Strengthens family and allies when Ultimate Art is activated
  • Items confer effect to all nearby allies
  • Starlight Shards in possession at start of expedition

This Relic provides a Revenant-exclusive perk not found on any of her remembrance Relics, and supports the Revenant's supportive functions by adding a buff to her Ultimate Art and sharing the effects of her items. Giving automatic Starlight Shards also ensures that she has ways to refill her FP in a prolonged fight. Pair it with the Old Portrait to bestow all three modifications to the Ultimate Art; combining with the Small Makeup Brush also creates a specialized triple-blue supportive loadout.

Elden Ring Nightreign Revenant Notes & Tips

  • Voice Actor: Amelia Gething
  • By the third day, ensure you have some Starlight Shards to refill your FP. You can always buy two at the merchant before the final boss arena, but you can get even more with the assistance of Relics.
    • Starlight Shards are in abundance in the ground floor of a Sorcerer's Rise.
  • The Revenant's Cursed Claws not only come with an S-scaling in Faith, they inflict mostly magic damage (80% magic, 20% physical), and they can rapidly resurrect any fallen allies, faster than most other Fist or Claw weapons. It may be wise to hold on to that weapon instead of discarding it at first opportunity.
  • Of the Sacred Seals, the Clawmark Seal is guaranteed to have Bestial Sling, the Godslayer's Seal is guaranteed to have Black Flame, the Gravel Stone Seal is guaranteed to have Lightning Spear, and the Golden Order Seal is guaranteed to have Discus of Light. Your choice of seal to target will depend on which element is most ideal for your current expedition.
  • If a family member falls in battle, they will be unavailable for some time before you can use them again. If their health falls low, summon a different family member in their place, re-summon them into a safer position, or even dismiss them with L2 (after readying your Character Skill).
  • Find "Less likely to be targeted" passive effects so that enemies focus more on your summons, and that you can stay alive long enough to support your team.
  • When readying your Character Skill before deciding which family member to summon, you will be locked into walking speed. This can consistently trigger any "while Walking" passive effects and can serve as a source of free damage.
  • Dormant Powers from forts and great churches have a 65% chance to contain an uncommon class weapon. Dormant powers from encampments and ruins have a 35% chance to contain an uncommon class weapon. Revenant's class weapons consist of sacred seals.

Nightreign Revenant Remembrance Quest Walkthrough

How to unlock and start Remembrance Quests in Nightreign

In Nightreign, players can randomly find journal entries related to the corresponding Nightfarer that they are using in an Expedition, which are key components to starting Remembrance Quests. These quests provide a backstory to the eight Nightfarers in the game, with players starting a Remembrance through the Roundtable Hold. When completed, these Remembrances will give rewards to players, such as Relics and Garbs (Skins).

When players are stuck in a part of a Remembrance Quest, or if a journal entry is missing, they may start an Expedition with the Nightfarer that they want to progress the quest. Then, defeat the Nightlord and the players will be able to do the next step of the quest. For more information about Remembrance Quests, players may visit this page.

Revenant Remembrance: The Blade of Night Fragment

Part 1, Revenant Remembrance Objectives:

  • Talk to the Duchess.
  • Talk to the Guardian.
  • Defeat the Trichephalos or the Darkdrift Knight in Limveld.
  • Acquire the Blade of Night Fragment.
  • Return to the Guardian and give the Blade of Night Fragment.

Chapter 1 for the Revenant Remembrance is available upon unlocking the Revenant. Here is a quick guide on how to unlock the Revenant:

  1. Unlock the Duchess.
  2. At the Roundtable Hold, purchase the Besmirched Frame from the Small Jar Bazaar for 1500 Murk
  3. Open your map and head to the newly marked area at the Roundtable Hold, near the sparring grounds.
  4. Interact with the ghost to trigger a combat section against Revenant and her summons
  5. Defeat Revenant and her summons for the Revenant to become available as a playable class.

As the Revenant, head to the "Journal" area at the Roundtable Hold to start reliving the Revenant's Remembrance. Open and read Chapter 1, and a new exclamation mark will appear next to the Duchess's icon. Head to the matchmaking room of the Roundtable Hold to find the Duchess and speak to her. Upon initially speaking to her, interact with the Duchess for the second time and choose the dialogue option "Why did you bring me here?".  After she responds, open your map and you'll see a new exclamation mark appearing next to the Guardian's icon.

1 revenant walkthrough elden ring wiki guide 600px

Head to the west side of the Roundtable Hold and enter a study room where you'll find the Guardian. You need to speak to him twice and choose the dialogue option "Speak of your request" to progress the objective. The Guardian will ask you to retrieve a weapon wielded by the forces of Night. You can then return to the Journal to read the updated objective, which is to defeat the Tricephalos (Gladius Beast of Night) or Darkdrift Knight (Fulghor Champion of Nightglow). Return to the Expeditions area and choose your target (Tricephalos or Darkdrift Knight) before matchmaking for an expedition. Survive and complete 2 days of the expedition to fight the Night Lord on the 3rd day. By successfully defeating your target, you'll receive the Blade of Night Fragment item.

2 revenant walkthrough elden ring wiki guide 600px

Back at the Roundtable Hold, head to the Guardian and speak to him. And by the doorway, just beside the Guardian, approach the remembrance gateway on the ground and interact with it to conclude the remembrance. Completing this section of the Revenant's remembrance quest rewards the player with a unique relic, the Small Makeup Brush, and unlocks the next part of this remembrance quest.

Revenant Remembrance: The Corrosion

Part 2, Revenant Remembrance Objectives:

  • Talk to the Duchess.
  • Talk to the Recluse.
  • Examine the Painting.
  • Defeat the Corrosion enemies.
  • Examine the Revenant doll.

Return to the Journal at the Roundtable Hold to find the next chapters of the Revenant's Journal. Cycle through the chapters and start the remembrance on Chapter 5. Speak to the Duchess in the Expeditions room of the Roundtable Hold and choose the dialogue option "Ask about the Night's corrosion" to learn more about the Revenant's condition. She'll then tell you to see the witch who can help. Open the map and you'll see a new exclamation mark will appear next to the Recluse's icon.

4 revenant walkthrough elden ring nightreign wiki guide 600px

Teleport to the Garden area, speak to Recluse, and sit on the wooden bench next to the Recluse to trigger a new section where you'll find yourself inside a mansion-like building. Walk towards the hallway and examine the painting of a man that's hanging on the wall. Continue to your right, and enter the room ahead. Be ready to fight, as multiple Corrosion enemies will spawn as you approach the doll of the Revenant sitting on a chair. Use your skill to summon a family member ally to assist you in combat, and avoid being closed in by multiple enemies since they can explode and deal significant damage. What we recommend is running towards these enemies and quickly distancing yourself to avoid getting hit by the explosion; getting close to them will trigger the enemies to explode.

5 revenant walkthrough elden ring nightreign wiki guide 600px

Once the health of the Corrosion enemies drops to zero, approach the Revenant doll sitting on the chair and examine it to progress the remembrance quest. You'll then return to the garden where you were sitting. Speak to the Recluse and interact with the remembrance gateway on the ground that's behind the wooden bench to conclude this section of the remembrance quest. Completing this part of the remembrance quest unlocks more chapters of the Revenant's journal and rewards the player with the Revenant's Chalice.

Revenant Remembrance: Daphne

Part 3, Revenant Remembrance Objectives:

  • Talk to the Duchess.
  • Examine the Painting.
  • Defeat the Contaminant.
  • Speak to Recluse.

Return to the Journal at the Roundtable Hold to find the next chapters of the Revenant's Journal. Cycle through the chapters and start the remembrance on Chapter 7. To start, head to the garden area, speak to Recluse, and sit on the wooden bench to trigger another memory. Back in the same area, walk along the hallway and examine the painting, which is now covered in blood. Turn right and enter the room to fight the Contaminant boss.

7 revenant walkthrough elden ring nightreign wiki guide 600px

Note: The Contaminant is vulnerable to healing spells, similar to the Royal Revenant it is based on. For an easier fight summon Frederick then repeatedly cast the heal spell on your starting seal within range of the boss

For this battle, we summoned Frederick to fight against the Contaminant. Although Frederick's attacks are slow, his wide swings will always connect and inflict high damage. Ensure that you keep your distance and let your summon do the fighting, since you can easily die due to the Revenant having low HP. You can jump in and land a few attacks from behind while its attention is on your summons, but keep an eye on it and be ready to dodge if you aggro it. Once Frederick is defeated, the next summon, you'll want to call forth Sebastian. Since Sebastian cannot move, you'll want to position yourself near him so the boss will go to you and Sebastian can land his attacks. It's quite tricky, but timing your dodges is key here, so you don't get hit. Finally, summon Helen to try and finish the fight. Defeating the Contaminant will trigger a cutscene.

Following the cutscene, you'll return to the garden at the Roundtable Hold. Recluse will ask the Revenant's desire, answer her with "Bury the Nightlord". After talking to Recluse, interact with the remembrance gateway on the ground that's behind the wooden bench to conclude this section of the remembrance quest. Completing the last part of the remembrance quest updates the Revenant's journal, formally closes the Revenant's Remembrance Quest, and rewards the player with the following:  the Remembrance (Revenant) Garb or Skin, and a unique relic, the Old Portrait.

Elden Ring Nightreign Revenant Journal

Revenant Journal: Chapter 1

Trying to escape from the encroachment of the Night, I awoke.

Checking my joints, I traced my way through clouded memories.

...But where was I? And why did the air smell of must and mold?

I needed to know what was going on. That is where I decided to begin.

Revenant Journal: Chapter 2

As I have fought alongside the others of the Roundtable Hold, some of the fog surrounding my memories has lifted.

I look in the mirror.

I remember my name is Daphne. Daughter of the prestigious House of Northerncroft, a family of master puppeteers.

But, then, upon the day of a fearsome storm, the Night swallowed the entirety of the family estate. It was on that day that I became the Revenant, taking on the figure of this doll.

Revenant Journal: Chapter 3

Though my form is that of a doll, yet do I dream.

Upon the night of the storm, nothing stirs within the estate, except for me, now inhabiting the unfamiliar body of a doll, aimlessly prowling the grounds. Then, something strokes my cheek.

It is ever at this point that the dream is cut short. I awaken and look in the mirror — so I can make sure of the sensations running through me.

"Are my dreams not enough, that you desire more?"

Black streaks have appeared upon my cheeks. It seems I am cherished by the Night indeed, to think it would still give chase, even in this doll's frame.

Revenant Journal: Chapter 4

In the mirror, I conceal the ways in which the Night eats away at me. As I apply the cosmetics given to me by the Iron Menial, I recall his words to me.

"Within your memories is a hole of not inconsequential size. It seems that the Night is using this toehold to take root."

The Recluse was the one who made this observation, but I know not how much she is worth my trust.

That aside, I cannot grow accustomed to applying makeup with my own hand. Back at home, someone would have done it for me.

The task finally complete, I caress the smoothness of my cheeks. Now I come to think of it, what was the name I gave this doll?

Revenant Journal: Chapter 5

I look into the mirror. The Night eats away at more and more.

"Pitiful..."

She was my darling baby, carved by my Grandfather. I called her by a name, but I don't know if I'll ever recall it now. Instead I stroke her face.

I must find a way to purge my body of the Night that is nesting within. In that case, I believe the Priestess...

Revenant Journal: Chapter 6

Dolls too have their dreams. This I know.

The daughter of the house softly caresses my cheeks.

"Let's put on a little makeup, Daphne."

I always liked having my makeup done.

Revenant Journal: Chapter 7

I caress the cheeks of the face that looks back from the mirror.

These fingers have not the warmth, nor the softness I expect.

It seems I must face again what transpired upon that stormy night.

Revenant Journal: Chapter 8

I grasp the portrait and face the mirror.

The daughter of the house is no more. She will never caress my face again, no matter how I yearn.

I never was a human. And now, the mantle of doll no longer fits me.

There is but one thing that I must accomplish — the every reason I became the Revenant. To bring an end to the night of the storm.

Went from conferring items, using STR for str/fth/arc scalings on scythes, dropping claws for allies like recluses/duchess, thanking people for shards through emotes, to just humbling trying to exist outside of unreliable seal RNG.

To becoming a mindnumbingly boring beastclaw spammer. How redditors defend it's DPS is beyond me. "Its a game use what you want!" only goes so far when you ask yourself what "game" even is there when bosses get deleted in seconds. Please play elden ring instead man

In complement to the other guy commenting about her not being a well designed character: I agree but It feels like it was not intentional.
If we look at her starting weapons, they might be mostly rubbish, but only because they rely on something that isn't there: the summons being good.

Her starting Seal comes with Heal and Rejection, both would be incredibly effective in a summon-focused gameplay:
-Heal allows you to constantly keep your summons alive.
-Rejection allows you to knock down some human sized enemies, creating opening for your summons to attack without taking damage.
-Rejection also does NOT pull enemy attention, meaning you can just sit behind enemies and spam it while your summon constantly attacks (you can test it out with the training marionette).

Her starting melee weapon is Revenant's Cursed Claws, which is also effective in summon-focused gameplay:
-It comes with the skill White Shadow's Lure. This works only with a few select enemy types (should've been more), but when it works it completely removes the attention from you or your summons during combat, giving space to heals, buffs or whatever floats your boat.
-Despite the melee attacks having higher revive values, I think there is no interactions with the summons (there should've been one, like enemies hit by your claw receive 10% more damage from your summons and makes your summons focus them).

But those details became mostly irrelevant, since the implementation of the summons was not properly done and her passive is mostly useless. Then instead of trying to fix it and having the summons pull more weight, making Revenant a proper summoner, they went on to transform her in a generic faith caster with summons as temporary shields.

It is what it is. But I'm sure, sooner or later, they will give another attempt on the summoner archetype. Unfortunately I don't believe Nightreign will be the target.

Not trying to be rude but probably the most questionably designed nightfarer. Like dissemble how much jank this character has/has gone through.
              - Somehow NO invader counterpart (just make her drop a seal)
              - Very weird stat spread, especially in comparison to other casters, who the heck would do this build in base elden for example?
              - Surprisingly limited summons for THE summoner character.
              - Most her relics are exceptionally uninterestingly or not worth taking
              - Somehow everyone is better with her claws then her

Is she bad? Probably not. Is she well-designed? Heck no

Still crazy how fredrick and helen are just nerfed versions of the mad pumpkin head ashes and the page ashes from base game... and that's that those ashes aren't anywhere near the best. Took away the bleed and helmet defense from fredrick, took away the crossbow spam that made the page a budget latenna from helen.

Recently I've been going back to depth 4 and climbing up to depth 5 with each character.
I finally understand why people cheat in Beast Claw relic.
                  - Way less worry about RNG
                  - Less time spent looking for seals that end up being support incantations
                  - Less time spent going for Rises
                  - Less runes spent at merchants
                  - Much easier FP management
                  - Guaranteed AoE
                  - No worries about having only fire seal to fight enemies like Smelter Demon and etc
                  - Physical damage, which is good in most situations
You'll never risk running into the Nightlord without a damage focused seal or a seal the boss is resistant to (like going into Adel only having Lightning Spear). Fortunately I played enough to have Beast Claw and Beastial incantation relics, weak ones but more than enough.

Incantation-user #2 (out of 3), with a small flavor of summoning and the advantage of starting with a seal.

I've seen confusion about revenant vs other characters, a lot of misinformation. These are current STAT-SWAP faith for all characters (not base). if it changes drop a reply
                        Revenant is 51 faith
                        Recluse at 63
                        Undertaker at 53
Duchess/Guardian 40~ (duchess has restage to compensate)
Wylder is at 30, mostly for INT/FTH weapon scalings but a frenzy seal or halo scythe get some value

I will note though, it's pointless to say these stats without mentioning revenant can start with a sealed now, so she gets instant value out of faith where other characters have to roll the dice on incants, which is still a pretty bad design/RNG issue regardless.

The Balancers relic has made her fun to play as again, plus I feel like they really cranked up the item 'restores FP' drop rate. Get a relic that buffs your favorite incants and just go completely wild!

                          • Anonymous

Fromsoft needs to relax on giving her a steroids to fix her, I feel like all she really needs is to exchange those int/arcane stats she has sitting around for some more vigor. Not saying she's good or bad, just saying their playing wack-a-mole with patches with the way their approaching it. It's still utterly shocking to me that undertaker and recluse are allowed to have a similar faith stat to her, while she can't specialize in more arcane or int.

found a lot of Revenant in DoN , but only too perfect to be true bestial relic set.

Increased damage to summons while ult is active

and now they do more damage and take less damage in deep of night.

never played this game before nor will i ever but i just heard her "oi" voicelines when gesturing and i felt like that "kill everyone in here and then myself" meme for a second

Revenant is definitely a lot better in DoN after various game changes. She still hasn't reach average levels sadly enough though. (No, people using starting spells with pure cheat engine relics doesn't count for the rest of us mere mortals.) Unless her summons get some sort of defensive buff for deep mode I don't think revenant will ever be a sturdy choice. Of course she is still fun and isn't at the bottom of the barrel anymore.

ngl Wrath of Gold kinda slaps. Sh1t nukes everything making an easy early game.

2 second in starting camp, easily kill groups of 8 to 10 in cathedral and fort, boss HP goes bye bye.

When I see a revenant casting with staff... that is when I know the Rev players deserve the poor treatment.

                                          • Such a powerful class. She can easily be the highest dps in the entire lobby through a good legendary or spell, and has a surefire insta-revive with decent range and invulnerability. She can summon cannon fodder on command too! what more could you ask for? I can't say I'm really an "anything main" but Revenant is one of my favorite choices for almost any run.

Ngl at this point just be happy we can at least run Strength Revenant permanently instead of scrapping for the rare drop of a coded sword or cipher pata with 0 status application

People who say she's bad are big trippin. Use "Power up alongside family" and treat your summons like disposable buffs, not DPS. Pair it with whatever element the NL is weak to on your starting claws and suddenly she feels a lot less underwhelming

I dont care what yall say. In my headcanon she is not a spellcaster and she does not use faith weapons. And thats how i play this character, i use purely strength and dex weapons. I dont care if it's unoptimal or if i'm "anchoring" our team.

Revenant got hidden buff in this DLC.
                                                    1. We have new relic effect : Start with incantation (replace 1st spell), that mean her starter seal can be Lightning spear + heal.
                                                    2. starter spell of Giant's seal change from flame sling to Giant flame take thee, that make this seal very stronger.

Honestly such as fun idea, wish they implement this in future games (not like other dark souls game summons, hers are a lot funner)

                                                        Spoiler Alert: Revenant buffs.

Revenant can start with incantations, the new boss drops an fp regen relic, and then they added character relics to the shop so strength Revenant is permanent.

Factors that still play in Rev's favor after Undertaker's release:

-She is still a better caster
-She still has the bigger Faith
                                                          -She has summons
-She has better synergy with claws

That's about it, now ask yourself how Scholar must feel about the existance of Executor and suddenly Rev's situation doesn't seem so tragic after all.

I low-key wish they gave her B/27 INT to match Duchess' B/27 FAI. Then, they could buff her FAI from S/51 to S/54 and her ARC from B/12 to B/14. Ironeye and Revenant both have B scaling in Arcane, but Ironeye has the higher value at 13 even though Revenant's Grief (like another commenter said in this chain) implies that Faith and Arcane are supposed to be her "primary" stats. Ironeye's Grief buffs Dexterity and Endurance, not Arcane after all. Meanwhile, buffing her Faith so that it is inherently higher than Recluse's by a small amount would distinguish her as THE Faith caster (while ensuring that Recluse can easily match her Faith with a relic if so desired). I don't even think this would be a huge buff to Revenant; I might be wrong on this point though.

However, if I'm going to be honest, I think a stat change would just a band-aid for Revenant's issues in the long run.

At the end of the day, I think something still needs to be done to fix the sacred seal RNG because it is so much easier to get a decent spell as Recluse or Duchess. Worst case scenario in absolute garbage runs, I can always use Recluse's starting staff through the entire campaign and regen 20 FP at the low cost of a 7 FP Glintstone Pebble OR I can use any Dex weapon for Duchess. I play Revenant because I find her playstyle to be the most fun thanks to her summons, unique fists, and EXCELLENT support ultimate... But she is undeniably the less reliable caster not only due to how feast-or-famine the sacred seal drops are, but also due to her lack of FP regen as a character with the second lowest health and endurance along with an average dodge and a fairly-close range melee alternative. And in Nightreign where being able to reliably deal damage to level up is the name of the game, this is an issue. I gave her up entirely in deeper DoN depths for Ironeye, Recluse, Wylder, and Duchess. She's supposed to be the support caster to Recluse's DPS caster, but she has an...
                                                              a) Worse dodge than Recluse, especially lowering her survivability in DoN where you can easily be one-shotted. Recluse has 15 invincibility frames. Revenant has 13.
                                                              b) No way to regen FP which forces her to spend runes on starlight shards and go out of her way Mage Towers while hoping she isn't paired with another caster. I almost never need to buy starlight shards as Recluse thanks to the abundance of Glintstone Pebble staves.
                                                              c) Has to go to an unmarked shack for decent spells (which is inconvenient for new players still figuring out the ropes) OR go to ruins which 50% of the time have their seals stored in an inconvenient location so your teammates usually just run off without you (Golem ruins).
                                                              d) Poor damage negation scaling for her summons in DoN which causes all other issues to go from comparatively minor inconveniences to major ones.
                                                              e) Rejection as a starting spell. Rejection isn't entirely useless, but it is niche. If I keep the starting seal, it is for Heal alone.

In general, I think Fromsoft needs to better balance support characters (Guardian and Revenant) so they have less inconvenient jank. They still need to be able to RELIABLY deal decent damage since this is a fast-paced and timed mode, even as they shouldn't outdo high DPS characters.
Can Revenant deal excellent damage? Yes! Will Revenant deal even decent damage? Um, maybe. Did she pick up a decent seal or did she keep finding Fortification spells or Dragon Communion spells that absolutely rail through her FP bar like a train? Did she try to use her summons in combat as she is intended to only to have her summons block her ability to see enemy attacks resulting in her perishing?
Can Guardian tank a hit? Yes! Will he live through the hit? That depends on whether or not he is being targeted by, say, three very fiery dogs and unable to dodge effectively due to his 10 invincibility frames and unable to guard effectively since he is, well, surrounded. Not to mention chip affinity damage particularly in DoN.
They aren't BAD characters by any means. Both have some of the best ultimates in the game, in my opinion at least. However, they are flawed ones who need QoL changes though. (Same thing with Executor and Raider in DoN though.)

It can scarcely be overstated just how much this class would be improved if her seal came with Discus of Light instead of Heal. Discus isn't even the strongest incant out there, but it's so FP efficient that it lets you actually play the incant class as an incant class without worrying about Starlight Shards the whole game. Maybe default starting gear is too much to ask, but surely not as a relic effect. You can change the attunement and the ash of war for all of the melee characters, but the casters are stuck with their default spells. That doesn't feel fair.

                                                                • Anonymous

Lately I have seen some ridiculous takes that it's impossible to properly balance Revenant without making her kit too strong... in a game where Ironeye and Duchess already exist. Make her ult lasts 30 seconds, gives summons scaling based on level and depth layer, even increase her base stats and give her SS faith scaling. Even if you make summons too strong and remove the reason to alternate between them, it would be fine. I am sure a lot of people would still argue why you should play Guardian or Recluse instead due to factors like survivability and RNG.

                                                                  • Anonymous

Revenant has been slandered by community to the point where I don't think that even if fromsoft buffed her summons through the roof, fixed her claws and gave her some way to restore FP, she would beat the "worst character" allegations. People just don't like the idea of hybrid characters and don't consider their overall viability. They will come up with a million reasons to not use Revenant over Recluse/Guardian even if they barely make any sense, like "her passive is useless against nightlords". Brother, the other two characters will literally stop functioning if you take away their passives.

                                                                    • Anonymous

Why does she have 30 Int, it's not high enough to make using staves anything more than an early game desperation tactic but it is high enough to make me mad that those stat points didn't go elsewhere

                                                                      • Anonymous

It's extremely confusing that this caster is the only character in the game that starts out with no real way to use her FP, even all the melee characters have at least okay ash of wars on their starting weapons but the second purest caster in the game starts with three pieces of garbage (yes I know, Heal has one use, tell me all about it when you find a way to guarantee fighting royal revenants every run)

                                                                        • Anonymous

I have seen a lot of redditors say that Recluse does everything Revenant can but better. So there are a couple niche reasons why I still prefer playing Revenant, at least in normal mode:

                                                                          - can take heat off yourself by using summons, leaving enemies wide open for eating spells, incredibly useful in solo
                                                                          - can engage in melee, her normal dodge works better for dealing with enemies up close
                                                                          - can deal with input reading and blocking enemies that are bane of existence for pure magic caster such as Recluse
                                                                          - 3 bar revive ult and claws

Also I love blasting bosses with powerful incantations as small and funny doll (main reason). But she really needs major buffs despite everything.

                                                                          • Anonymous

Revenant feels so useless in DoN but that new relic passive with FP gain on kills is so tantalizing with its allure of infinite Number Go Up...

                                                                            • Anonymous

It has fist tier speed but the usual range of her claws, and it's different depending on if you 1 hand or 2 hand. You know, for all those times when you're blocking with her claws.

                                                                                  • Anonymous

the good news: So do most player characters, so technically Helen is now as tanky as Raider.

                                                                                    • Anonymous

I love playing Revenant but my god, as I go higher (lower?) in Depth, the number of attacks that 100-0 oneshot me at level 15 is becoming a little much to bear. Damage negation at full HP is a mandatory passive; I would rather have a common tier weapon with that single passive than some fuckoff legendary weapon with two otherwise amazing passives and a meaningless malus, simply because it means I don't die whenever I take a single minor hit in a Nightlord fight.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                                              • Anonymous

At first, I was really disappointed at the "rumors" of Revenant getting a strength relic, due to the fact her starting weapon, the claws, are already incredibly slow. However, I realized that her getting strength is infinitely better than any other stat. The reason? It's the versatility. Other than heavy weapons, Revenant would become viable with faster weapons such as axes, hammers, swords, fists etc. which will make her much better to play with different playstyles.

                                                                                                • Anonymous

To my fellow nightreigners who try to play Revenant, but then she always folds like a piece of paper and constantly runs out of FP:

                                                                                                  - always pick physical/affinity damage negation and max HP/FP increase over 10k runes and other bad drops
                                                                                                  - "Max FP increased upon unlocking sorcerer's rise" relic effect is all you need to have a fulfilling FP bar on her. Stack on starlight shards from those rises and merchants, always get additional item slots from latter as well
                                                                                                  - if your first POI is great church or fort, get enough runes from enemies to get level 3 and blue upgrade on claws if possible. This is the universal advice for every character, because it makes clearing evergaol you are rushing right next to so much easier, and it enables the use of blue seals/weapons right away
                                                                                                  - her summons are squishy af, so you should use them to distract bosses mainly. Buffed Fred and Sebastian can perma stunlock mounted bosses like Loretta. That's how you make them useful.

Also, if you have 50k-ish runes and there is the super merchant nearby, spend them all on purple stone, ritual sword, item slot etc. You don't need to be level 12 by the end of day 1. This advice applies to most characters as well.

                                                                                                  Thank you.

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

"Less likely to be targetted" is even more important on Revenant than other squishy characters, because it helps you shift aggro from yourself and onto your summons. They might die in 1-2 hits in a Nightlord fight, but that's still 1-2 hits that aren't being directed at you - letting you cast more spells, crunch a starlight shard, or drink a flask.

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

I already know what will going on after that patch release.

                                                                                                              • Anonymous

only melee weapon you should be using is her claws maybe coded sword, cipher pata, or cleanrot scythe for damage but otherwise use her claws, they're betting at reviving than literally any other thing in the game besides ults, have good range and attack quickly, a good revenant will use successive attack for fp relics and passives and be able to easily switch between casting spells and using claws in shorter openings, you can easily clear through a whole run without needing to use a single starlight shard if you know what you're doing and get good relics or passives, i personally like using her B in arcane scaling with a blood loss relic for extra damage when im getting that fp back with successive attacks, just remember her claws are actually in the fist weapon class so if you want to use the fp restoration on specific weapon type make sure you dont get bamboozled, alot of the characters in this game can be made 3x better with relics, but with certain characters like revenant or guardian you're literally just throwing if you're not using any decent ones as their base kit can be quite difficult to work with. for a non-rng revenant set up i personally use the Everdark Pest Relic, Old Portrait from her remembrance, and the one from the special sigil shop. it makes your best ability, your ult, very good while also giving you more fp, fp recovery, and starlight shards, you can also hitup the mage towers for extra fp while also collecting more shards in the process if you need.

                                                                                                                • Anonymous

Great class, but you really have to know how to make sure you snag shards and decent seals, and you really, really need to know how to dodge Nightlords. Basic gameplay loop is to make sure you have a summon out whenever a fight starts

Bad Revenants are deadweight who use starting seals, rarely summon, and try to hit things with weapons.
Good Revenants have a summon going most of the time and do solid seal damage.
Great Revenants are aggro-taking, boss-melting machines who know their dodge timings, hoard shards, upgrade seals and can hard-carry a team with rezzes between Sebastian's roar, their claws and their ult.

Luck of the draw with teammates shows a lot more on this class than the rest.

                                                                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                                                                    Revenant claws tips:

One of the best weapons. Drop that useless starting seal upon landing & stick to two handing the claws until you have better seals or weapons. Relic w/ bleed or poison helps make them viable the entire run. Flaming strike crushes on these (great w relic that gives armament frost), which also goes great w Everdark Fulghor relic. Charged two handed R2’s do massive stance damage w heavy stagger and wide sweep. Running two handed R2 is killer w huge range.

                                                                                                                    Summons tips:

Flask + consumables sharing relic effects work on summons! Buff Sebastian w some boiled crab or heal up Frederick. Best one is the gradual heal physik, if you find one at a merchant grab it & save it for Nightlord (plus it’ll work on teammates).

                                                                                                                    Relic effects:

FP for successive attacks is clutch w Revenant esp with a thrusting sword which has rapid attacks & good reach, wraith bell does big damage w her scaling. The red relic at the sovereign sigil dealer with “hp regens for you and allies at low hp” is EXCELLENT for her as it works on summons too plus it gives vigor and low hp damage reduction.

                                                                                                                    Incants:

Dragon claw or bite are top notch. The single highest damage incant for her is Placidusax’s laser beam if you can find it, HUGE damage on big nightlords like Caligo or Sentient Pest (due to their size it’ll land well & if you cast while jumping a lot of attacks will miss her while she’s floating). Malenia’s scarlet flower is a great support for your team (and it’ll revive any downed teammates close by). Ultimately Nightlord weakness determines the best incants for her, but generally speaking dragon incants are her strength.

                                                                                                                    • Anonymous

Playing her was fun and all until I got 94 wins with her out of all characters, and now I don't know how to feel about myself. The second closest character is Wylder with 60 wins. I mean, some of my best relics I've got are best suited for her though. All I'm afraid is showing my results table to someone and them thinking that I'm damn weirdo

                                                                                                                      • Anonymous

I like her design but she just feels very lacking compared to Recluse. An essentially useless passive (100 useless against the NL, the biggest challenge) vs FP regen for free, and maybe some other nice effects if you feel like micromanaging. Recluse has 6 extra points in endurance which is pretty noticeable, vs Revenant having one extra in vigor and 2 extra in arcane which is lol, and like 9 more in strength which is only very slightly useful since you're forced to use melee without FP regen (even then though you'd just use the claws, so the strength is pretty useless.

Revenants ult *can* be game saving, but then its only useful if your team is playing poorly, and more poorly than yourself. If you're all playing well then it'll just go unused. You can use it more aggressively where it can be more useful, especially if you have a relic with the damage buff effect, but then you have to sacrifice a relic slot for it. If you don't use the relic slot for that though, its honestly not that useful, even if you have the effect you still take damage which would mean you'd have to waste a flask or two and rather than get hit while mashing why not just continue to roll through attacks, especially since it only lasts a measely 15 seconds, and you want to be healed back up *before* the effect ends so you don't get one tapped.

The summons can be situationally useful, the most use is with the relic to boost your damage and defense with Frederick and Sebastian respectively, but again takes a lot. They can help res but again thats only if playing poorly. Their damage output is quite low, but more importantly they die extremely fast against the nightlords, which again are the actual (relatively) hard part of a run. Usually I find the best method is just enjoy the 20 seconds of fredrick boosted damage before I summon sebastian as far away from the boss as reasonably possible and hope he stays alive so at least I can get a defense bonus. They are at least decent at taking aggro in the overworld, and same for contributing to stagger (except for Helen who is pretty much always useless).

Her weapon is actually quite good for rezzing (though as is a running theme, only useful if your teammates are playing poorly) and have a pretty good moveset in general + high stagger damage, but realistically you're still doing less melee damage than anyone besides recluse and birdman. Also keeping it means you have to give up a passive slot. I do want to try the hoarfrost stomp strat though, that sounds fun.

Also staves are guaranteed to have an offensive spell unlike seals, and the useful intelligence spell pool seems larger than the useful faith seal pool

Generally I'm more of a buff an undertuned character than nerf a overtuned one, but I do think they should lower Recluse's faith down to like an A and maybe knockoff 10 points, so that Recluse isn't as much of a straight up better option. For buffs they could do some combination (not all) of giving revenant more endurance to match recluse, giving summons more HP/defense, making the passive either guaranteed if Revenant or her summons get the kill *or* make it so it remains chance based but she/her summons don't have to get the last hit, changing the seal she starts with to be more useful, and maybe giving her some method of slow FP restore, like she can restore FP passively when she summons helen or something

                                                                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                                                                          • Anonymous

For the first time I managed to get million runes on an expedition and did it with solo Revenant. Saying this class is bad is chronic skill issue

                                                                                                                            • Anonymous

wish the heal incants would res teammates, it would make sense and would be a simple way to indirectly buff her, dont know why they already dont excel at that tbh

                                                                                                                              • Anonymous

Unironically using her with some melee weapons + summons helps clearing camps faster than Recluse with her FP regen. She has slightly higher str and arcane stats so it helps.

As Recluse you may have unlimited FP but you don't have unlimited time for farming 21 FP per skill use. Folks should finally start realizing this. Recluse's cocktail combos are cool tho, but getting the right combination is pain and makes restoring FP even more problematic.

                                                                                                                                • Anonymous

If you use a relic like "Starting armament deals holy / lightning / fire / magic damage", the AR of Revenant's Cursed Claws goes from 44 to 56 at level 1, which is a 25% buff. I think this is the biggest buff you can get out of just 1 relic slot.

However, the higher your level, the lower the buff. At level 15, clawfists have 88 AR without the relic vs 91 AR with it.

I assume that all this happens because such relics replace a portion of an armament's PHYSICAL damage with elemental one. Both values are static and depend on the weapon type. So, for example, 20 physical AR gets taken and 25 elemental is given back. According to Visual Codex, Revenant's clawfists have only 12 base physical damage. So, by using one of the said relics at level 1, you sacrifice almost nothing and gain full benefit of the added elemental damage. As you level up, weapon damage scales up, including the physical portion of it. So, at level 15, the relic trades physical for elemental damage almost 1-to-1.

                                                                                                                                  • Anonymous

Seen like 6 comments complaining about FP. FYI, every Rise has starlight shards at the crates in the bottom. 3-12 of them per Rise. In game I see a ton of people (on every casting character) walk right past them. The shards are the solution. You can buy extras or use the signboard relic (6 starting shards) if you want to use spells on everything (which I highly recommend) Also charging the incants for better FP efficiency. Revenant is secretly one of the highest DPS characters once you get over the FP thing. She can tie Recluse on damage if you play the incants right.

                                                                                                                                    • Anonymous

It seems like this would be a terrible, terrible choice of weapon for her. Is this just one of those instances of the fandom playing a game of telephone?
