Sub Missions in Nioh 3 are optional missions that players can participate in to earn rewards. Sub Missions are not directly related to the main story, but Sub Missions provide players with additional experience that is outside of the regular playthrough. Sub Missions become available through progressing the main story, such as meeting NPCs who give Missions through the Battle Scrolls, while there are also Missions unlocked through Myths. Sub Missions are not required to reach the ending of the game; however, they provide important rewards, rare NPC encounters, or even access to secret Locations. On this page, you will find the full list of all the Sub Missions within different locations in Nioh 3.

| Basic Controls | Hitokoto Slope | 1622 CE - Edo | In Basic Controls, you can practice commands shared by both styles, like attacking and guarding. |
| Beast of the Underworld | Shichijo Abyss, Shichijo | 1864 CE - Bakumatsu | A great depression has formed in the ground of the city, and at the very bottom sits a swirl of flames. A foreign weapon merchant by the name of Thomas Glover informed me that a warehouse for weapons lies ahead, but the way is blocked by yokai. |
| Beneath a Pure White Flag | Mount Kurama | 1190 CE - Heian | Mount Kurama has been revered as a place for ascetic training since ancient times and is said to be a place where miracles happen. Honing my mind at such a place might allow me to grasp the martial spirit of the powerful men I encountered in the capital. |
| Crucible Tour | Kiyomizu | 1864 CE - Bakumatsu | The wails of the vengeful spirits of Kiyomizu Temple continue to hang heavy in the air. I should put an end to their laments. |
| Demonic Duels | Any Shrine | 1622 CE - Final Battle of Edo | Rumors speak of matches in which numerous yokai participate. The very prospect seems to me a scene straight out of hell, but other whispers suggest that warriors of great renown have also entered the fray to hone their skills. I can think of no better place for me to refine my own techniques. |
| Drawn to Yokai Incense | Shimabara | 1864 CE - Bakumatsu | Throngs of men visit the Shimabara Pleasure District to bemoan the world's uncertain future and dream for a night. But lately, none of the men who visit have returned. What could be happening in the red light district? |
| Expanded Controls | Hitokoto Slope | 1622 CE - Edo | In Expanded Controls, you can practice commands specific to Samurai Style and Ninja Style. |
| Gathering of the Greats | Any Shrine | 1622 CE - Final Battle of Edo | Gathered here are the ferocious warriors with whom I crossed blades across time and history. Through our battles, I finally understood what it is that makes a shogun. Perhaps encountering these warriors again will yield even greater insight. |
| Groans in the Valley | Mikatagahara | 1572 CE - Warring States | The clash with Takeda's forces is over, and soldiers from both sides should long since have withdrawn from the area. Despite this, someone's groans are said to be echoing from the bottom of the valley at Saigagake. I had best investigate. |
| Horie's Fleeting Petals | Horie Castle, Lake Hamana | 1572 CE - Warring States | It is said the daughter of a lord from days long past rests beneath a cherry tree, and the princess weeps tears that cause the tree to bloom out of season. It seems such a legend exists in Horie Castle. |
| Kiyomizu Defiled | Kiyomizu | 1864 CE - Bakumatsu | Tamuramaro, Japan's very first shogun, founded the famed Kiyomizu Temple. Yet now that temple floats in the air. I can't understand how a well-protected temple fell into such a state, but terrifying yokai may lurk there. I must take the utmost caution. |
| Nobunaga's Blade | Sanjo | 1864 CE - Bakumatsu | Oda Nobunaga was a hero of the Warring States period who fell at Honnoji Temple. It appears the head priest hid Nobunaga's favored sword someplace. |
| Origin of the Haunting Caves | Haunting Caves, Maisaka | 1572 CE - Warring States | The present-day Haunting Caves instill terror with their name alone, but they were once typical caves. However, this changed when a man determined to master Shugendo asceticism came to dwell in their depths... |
| Princess Tsubaki | Hamamatsu | 1572 CE - Warring States | After winning his independence from the Imagawa clan, Grandfather captured a castle known as Hikuma Castle, which he then made his own and renamed Hamamatsu Castle. I hear that the ferocity of the siege was owed to the tenacity of the female warriors defending it. One warrior who came close to taking Grandfather's head is even said to still wander the castle as a spirit. |
| Rampant Temptation | Any Shrine | 1622 CE - Final Battle of Edo | The allure of the yokai in the Haunting Caves grows stronger... I'd best intervene before someone falls prey to the yokai's efforts. |
| Shadows of the Three Oni | Edo Castle | 1622 CE - Final Battle of Edo | In retrospect, the path to peace was a long one. I think back on the grudge Kunimatsu harbored toward me, and the three demons birthed from his resentment. Defeating them should prove whether I am truly worthy of being shogun. |
| Shinsengumi: Best of Five | Mibu Temple, Mibu | 1864 CE - Bakumatsu | The swordsmen of the Shinsengumi fought in Kyoto during the Bakumatsu period. There may be something new for me to learn by once again crossing blades with such formidable foes. |
| Solitary Blade | Mibu Temple, Mibu | 1864 CE - Bakumatsu | The key Nagakura Shinpachi held opened the gate to Mibu Temple. According to Takasugi, the Shinsengumi has taken over Mibu Temple and is currently using it as their headquarters. The Shinsengumi is comprised of powerful fighters who seek to destroy the loyalists, and allowing them to linger would be most dangerous. I should take this chance to head to Mibu Temple and put a stop to them while I can. |
| Supernatural Shrieks | Any Shrine | 1622 CE - Final Battle of Edo | The rancor of a lost soul may grow exceedingly potent when it lingers on such storied sacred ground. As on many nights, the ominous wail of a yokai echoes from a place unknown and fills the air with a most disturbing presence. |
| Takeda's Four Heavenly Kings | Saigagake, Mikatagahara | 1572 CE - Warring States | Saigagake was the site of fierce battles fought between the Tokugawa forces and Takeda's Four Vassals. These four fierce warriors laid down their lives for their liege lord, and tales of their loyalty are still told to this very day. |
| The Apparition of Ryotan Temple | Ryotan Temple, Iinoya | 1572 CE - Warring States | Long associated with the Ii clan, Ryotan Temple is said to be a tranquil place of beauty, but a horde of yokai now befouls its grounds. I should work together with Naotora to eliminate them. |
| The Demon's Regimen | Hamamatsu | 1572 CE - Warring States | I will engage in direct combat with Hanzo. He is a peerless ninja, and it will take everything I have to best him. |
| The Demon of the Haunting Caves | Haunting Caves, Maisaka | 1572 CE - Warring States | It seems a yokai has made its den in a cave along the coast. This isn't any old cave, either—rumors say it harbors vast numbers of Spirit Stones. I must remain vigilant. |
| The Mystery of Rajomon | Rajomon, Rokuhara | 1190 CE - Heian | The Crucible has overtaken Heian-Kyo, where Yoritomo leads a group of warriors in battle against yokai. But there is talk that Spirit Stones have been brought into Yoritomo's camp, and that the shadow of a duplicitous Onmyo mage has also been seen. |
| The Way of Onmyo: Adept | Eternal Rift | 1622 CE - Edo | Saito Fuku has offered to train my Onmyo Magic skills in the Eternal Rift. I must prepare myself so as to live up to Fuku's expectations |
| The Way of Onmyo: Novice | Eternal Rift | 1622 CE - Edo | Saito Fuku has offered to train my Onmyo Magic skills in the Eternal Rift. |
| The Way of Onmyo: Veteran | Eternal Rift | 1622 CE - Edo | Saito Fuku has offered to train my Onmyo Magic Skills in the Eternal Rift. I must prove myself to her and demonstrate that I am worthy of inheriting the greatest arts Onmyo Magic has to offer. |
| The Way of the Ninja: Adept | Eternal Rift | 1622 CE - Edo | Hattori Hanzo has offered to train my ninja skills in the Eternal Rift. He will be training me directly—I must steel myself and put everything I have into this bout. |
| The Way of the Ninja: Novice | Eternal Rift | 1622 CE - Edo | Hattori Hanzo has offered to train my ninja skills in the Eternal Rift. |
| The Way of the Ninja: Veteran | Eternal Rift | 1622 CE - Edo | Hattori Hanzo has offered to train my ninja skills in the Eternal Rift. I must overcome this trial if I wish to master the way of the ninja and inherit its most profound techniques. |
| The Way of the Warrior: Adept | Eternal Rift | 1622 CE - Edo | Yagyu Munenori has offered to train my sword skills in the Eternal Rift. I must bring all my newfound experience to bear so that he may judge me as worthy. |
| The Way of the Warrior: Novice | Eternal Rift | 1622 CE - Edo | Yagyu Munenori has offered to train my sword skills in the Eternal Rift. |
| The Way of the Warrior: Veteran | Eternal Rift | 1622 CE - Edo | Yagyu Munenori has offered to train my sword skills in the Eternal Rift. Seeing this training through will allow me to glimpse to the very essence of what it means to be a warrior—I must prove myself if I wish to attain mastery of the blade. |
| Training Ground | Tenryu River | 1622 CE - Edo | Here you can freely experiment and hone your skills with Martial Arts, Guardian Spirit Skills, and Living Artifact. |
| Vengeful Blade | Futamata | 1572 CE - Warring States | In Futamata, I heard talk of a grudge harbored toward Muramasa. Muramasa is a swordsmith without equal, and it is rumored that his blades will antagonize the Tokugawa clan. But why would anyone harbor a grudge against Muramasa? I'd best investigate. |
| Within Time Everlasting | Any Shrine | 1622 CE - Final Battle of Edo | Allies stood alongside me no matter when or where I traveled, and though they taught me well, I still have much to learn. I shall answer this call so they may see how I have grown. |
