Demonic Duels is a Sub Mission in Nioh 3. In Demonic Duels, the player has to defeat several yokais to refine and hone their techniques. Sub Missions in Nioh 3 are non-essential quests that can be completed in different chapters of the game. Sub Missions are not required to reach the ending, but completing them will reward the player with various rewards that can help boost their character's progression.

Rumors speak of matches in which numerous yokai participate. The very prospect seems to me a scene straight out of hell, but other whispers suggest that warriors of great renown have also entered the fray to hone their skills. I can think of no better place for me to refine my own techniques.

Defeat all enemies

This sub-mission is the longest and features the most waves among the new Battle Scroll missions added in the latest patch. Upon entering the area, you’ll immediately face three Skeleton Warriors. This should be an easy opening wave that can be cleared quickly.

The second wave pits you against two Yokis. As soon as they spawn, use a strong AoE attack to damage both at once, then finish them off before they can fully engage.

The third wave consists of a Flying Bolt and a Karasu Tengu. Focus on eliminating the Karasu Tengu first, as it is the more dangerous of the two, before turning your attention to the Flying Bolt.

In the fourth wave, you’ll face a One-Eyed Oni and a Snowclops at the same time. Both enemies are slow and share similar attacks, so avoid rushing in. Wait for their attacks to whiff or to finish animation, then safely move in to land your attacks.

The fifth wave is where you'll fight the first boss for this mission, the Onryoki. This is a slow, but hard-hitting boss. Stay at a safe range to avoid his grabs and melee attacks. Most of its attacks become much easier to read and dodge when you are not directly in front of it. Focus on reacting to its big wind-ups instead of staying aggressive. The sixth wave consists of three Gakis, one medium-sized Gaki, and two smaller Gakis. The Gakis are not much of a threat, so this wave can be cleared quickly and should not be that difficult.

The seventh wave pits you against an Ippon-Datara and an Enki. Try not to fight them together and separate them first. Deal with each one individually to avoid getting overwhelmed by their attacks. The Ippon-Datara is very mobile and tends to leap around frequently, so keep an eye out for that and constantly reposition yourself if needed.

The eighth wave features an Itsumade and a Koroka. Start by eliminating the Koroka first since it’s the easier target and can be dealt with quickly. Once it’s down, focus on the Itsumade. While it can be more dangerous, it’s manageable if you stay patient. Just be mindful of its wide AoE attacks and avoid overcommitting when you find a window to attack.

The ninth wave consists of a Yamanba and an Ubume. Focus on taking down the Yamanba first, as it’s easier to deal with. Once that’s dealt with, turn your attention to the Ubume. Keep moving throughout the fight, as it frequently repositions itself. Be cautious of its ranged attacks and especially its scream, which can stun you if you’re too close.

For the tenth wave, you'll face off against another boss, Enenra. Enenra is a fast, high-damaging boss that relies on constant pressure through fire-based attacks. Stay at a safe mid-range distance to better read its tornado attacks and combos. Always be ready to reposition when it enters tornado form or begins summoning fire zones, as staying in one place will quickly get you overwhelmed. During its empowered phase, play even more cautiously, as its speed and damage increase significantly. To view a full guide on how to defeat Enenra, click here.

The eleventh wave consists of a Jailer Oni and a Shunobon. This is a straightforward wave, as both enemies are relatively weak and can be dealt with quickly.

The twelfth wave consists of two Yamabikos. Another straightforward encounter that should be easy to deal with.

The thirteenth wave consists of two Yagyo Soldiers, which are also easy to handle and should not pose much of a threat.

The fourteenth wave will consist of a Yamainu and a Raiju. Try to separate them and focus on one at a time, ideally Raiju first, since it's easier to kill but much faster and harder to track. Stay mobile and avoid getting pinned between them. Keep a mid-range distance to bait out Yamainu's lunges while watching Raiju's attacks. For a detailed breakdown of each enemy, visit the Yamainu and Raiju pages.

For the fifteenth and final wave, you'll face off against a Bloodedge Demon. This boss is the embodiment of all the defeated revenants, and this monster will take the form of a Revenant Yokai. Stay at mid-range and avoid getting trapped in its flurry of attacks. Pay attention when it changes the color of its weapons. Most of its strongest moves have clear wind-ups or recovery, so stay patient, dodge the full combo, then punish with quick attacks before disengaging again. To view a full guide on how to defeat Bloodedge Demon, click here.

Defeating each enemy and boss drops random pieces of equipment, and once you've defeated all of them, you'll have completed Demonic Duels. After the final encounter, interact with the glowing orb in the arena to conclude the mission. Once you teleport back to the Shrine you activated, you'll receive a Yokai Teardrop, Sands of Recollection, Scarlet Sands of Despair, and the Secret Skills Text: Artful Evasion as completion rewards.
