Elden Ring Igon Notes & Trivia
- Lockout conditions for Igon's Quest:
- Igon does not need to be summoned while fighting against Bayle the Dread to acquire his items.
- Igon's quest does not need to be started to acquire his items. They will be at his NPC location after the battle against Bayle the Dread.
- Igon wrote two cookbooks that can aid in the killing of dragons. See Igon's Cookbook [1] and Igon's Cookbook [2].
- The NPC is a reference to Captain Ahab from Herman Melville's novel Moby-Dick, both being one-legged hunters who are proficient with harpoons and are obsessively motivated by revenge against their bestial foe.
His internal reference data makes this explicit, roughly translating to "Dragon Communion Ahab."
Elden Ring Igon Questline Guide
Drake Warrior's Vow
Igon is located just past the Pillar Path Waypoint Site of Grace [Map Link]. After crossing the Ellac Greatbridge, head south along the path. You'll find Igon on the ground, crying out in pain and cursing Bayle the Dread. Speak to him and exhaust his dialogue until he repeatedly says, "O-Oh... the pain... The exquisite pain..."
Igon is located a little past the Pillar Path Waypoint - Site of Grace. After crossing the Ellac Greatbridge, take the path leading to the south and you will eventually see Igon on the ground screaming in pain, you will also hear him curse out to Bayle the Dread that caused his pain. Speak to him and make sure to exhaust his dialogues until he repeats "O-Oh...the pain... The exquisite pain..."
Continue south from Igon along the road lined with white marble, headless dragon statues. Some players have reported an NPC version of Ancient Dragon-Man invading them on this route. Look for a jar hanging from the cliff on the right side containing the Herbalist's Bell Bearing. Proceed along this path until you reach a cave on the left with a lit brazier. Enter the cave and activate the Dragon's Pit Site of Grace [Map Link]. Then, go through the tunnel and take the left path, following it to the area with lit stone lanterns. Follow the lanterns to the right until you reach a ramp.
The upper area leads to a dragon fight, but you need to go to the lower area. Here, you can choose to fight the enemies or avoid them. This path leads to a ritual-like altar. The message advises you to "Be brave. Show no fear." Approach the edge of the altar and jump into the darkness.
On this level, you'll find a boss behind the golden fog door. Defeat the Ancient Dragon-Man to receive the Dragon-Hunter's Great Katana and unlock a door on the opposite side. Open this door and activate the Site of Grace just before exiting the tunnel.
After exiting the tunnel, head east to fight the Jagged Peak Drake lying in the center. Once defeated, head south behind where the Drake was resting. You'll encounter lightning creatures, which you can ride past. Continue until you find the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion and the Dragon Communion Priestess standing beside it.
IMPORTANT: Exhaust all dialogues with the Dragon Communion Priestess before finishing Igon's questline to learn more about her lore.
Talk to the NPC and exhaust her dialogues. Accept her offer to partake in the ritual by choosing the dialogue that says "Devour draconic essence". Then, you will receive the Ancient Dragon's Blessing from her. Make sure to activate the Site of Grace nearby before leaving this area.
Head out to the Foot of the Jagged Peak by returning to where you fought the first dragon, but this time, you will head north and pass through the pillars. This will take you to the cliff of the mountain.

Use the Spiritspring at the end of this path, then veer right and cross the bridge. Activate the Foot of the Jagged Peak site of grace here before proceeding. This is very important because you will be fighting a boss in the next area. This is where you will respawn if you die during the fight.
Next, continue up ahead until you reach the boss arena. You will be fighting another Jagged Peak Drake, but this time, there will be two of them. After this fight, you will hear the voice of Igon nearby. Locate him at the entrance to the narrow canyon path to the east, where the red smoke is thick (basically the southeastern section of the area you just fought the drakes in). Talk to him there and exhaust his dialogues. He will ask you to summon him and let him join you in the fight against Bayle the Dread. You will receive Igon's Furled Finger.
From here, take the Spiritspring behind him, and another one at the next level. On the third level, you will see the entrance to the cave of the next dragon. Go inside the cave and watch out for the rolling boulders here. You can avoid it by going to the right area of the cave, and then crossing right after the boulder rolls down. Once you make it to the left side of the room, you will reach the arena of another boss.
You will be fighting Ancient Dragon Senessax. After defeating this boss, go up the north exit where you will see the remains of other dragons on the ground. This serves as your guide that you are headed to the right place.

Outside this area, activate the Jagged Peak Mountainside - Site of Grace. Then, head to the top of the mountain by heading southwest. You will see the dragon remains here and keep following it. There are also lightning effects that will occasionally strike. Then, use the Spiritspring and continue going to the southwest down the narrow rocky path.
Stick to the wall here to your left and use another Spiritspring. You will find yourself at a level with multiple dragon remains and a small cave entrance in front of you. Go inside and pick up the Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone at the end past some slimes. Turn around back toward the cave entrance but turn northwest up a steep slope and follow it around to another Spiritspring at the end.
Use the Site of Grace at the top and this is the one that you will be using in case you die during the boss fight. (Beware: You probably will). Go towards the small opening here and once you enter the arena, Bayle the Dread will land once you are inside. Now, the key to completing Igon is to summon him here. He can't be summoned from the outside but you need to locate his summon sign inside the arena after this boss fight is triggered- and it is located just to the left after entering (only after the dragon is spawned).

After defeating this boss, return to Igon's last location where you fought the two Jagged Peak Drakes. [See the SOTE Elden Ring DLC Map] He will drop his items that you can loot:
- Igon's Greatbow
- Igon's Helm
- Igon's Armor
- Igon's Gauntlets
- Igon's Loincloth
- Igon's Bell Bearing - grants Igon's Harpoons from the Twin Maiden Husks for 1000 runes each.
Once you have collected these items, go to the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion. Teleport to the site of grace that you previously used. The Dragon Communion Priestess may or may not be there depending on your choices in her questline.
If you have given her Thiollier's Concoction, you will receive the following items:
If you have not given her Thiollier's Concoction, you will receive the following items:
Prior to being a Drake warrior and partaker in dragon communion, Igon was a scavenger of battlefields, finding meaning in his life through dragon communion. He wishes to fight against Bayle with your help to fulfill his wishes. It is highly recommended to summon Igon in the fight against Bayle, and gain Thiollier's Concoction to help progress through Igon and the Dragon Communion Priestess' questlines. Please see the individual pages of the NPCs to learn about their questlines to avoid getting locked out.
Dialogue in Elden Ring: Igon
Introduction
- O-Oh… Ohh… O-Ohh! Ohhhhhh! The pain… The pain! My arms! My legs! Each lies a bloody ruin! Ah… A-Aaaaaargh! The pain… The exquisite pain…
- Bayle! Vile Bayle! O terror incarnate! There is life in me yet! I will soon feast upon your heart! Mark my words! You too shall know fear! Uaaaaargh!
- Please, no more. I am sorry. I repent! Come no closer. Oh, the horror. Please, savage me no further. O-Oh… Oh…
- Please, no more… Spare me your cruelty… O-Oh… Oh…
When attacked
- (when hit) The pain...it's exquisite
- The exquisite pain! Graaaaaargh!
- (On player kill) Bayle! O terror incarnate! There is life in me yet!
- (On defeat) Bayle, terror incarnate. Your time will come…
After defeating Jagged Peak Drake
- Heh heh heh, ha ha ha! Ah ha ha ha! What a sight! A warrior true, if ever one there was! A fellow drake warrior! Igon, piteous Igon, do you not remember? Conjure your past! How once you were! When fear was yet foreign to ye! Heh heh… Ha ha ha!
- Ahh, drake warrior, dear friend. Grant me this one wish. Take this finger. My finger. Scale the jagged peak. Face Bayle the Dread. And when you do… Summon me. Summon my soul. My limbs are limbs no more. My heart is twice-over filled with fear. But a drake warrior I remain. And my soul yet lies on the mountain. (Gives Igon’s Furled Finger)
- Proud drake warrior, I beg of you. Scale the jagged peak. Face Bayle the Dread. And when you do... Summon me. Summon my soul.
Dragon Communion Priestess when asked about Igon:
- I remember that name well. The broken drake warrior. Driven by bottomless hunger and fiery ambition.
- Precisely what the Dragonlord envisaged for men who partake in Dragon Communion.
- The mad hunger and fierceness of spirit that only flows from those young and short of sight. He rather reminds me of Bayle, in fact. Such thoughts are unfathomable to ones as old as we.
When attacked on Jagged Peak
- Oof!
- Ahh, behold! My soul! The soul of a drake warrior!
- Drake warrior, hear me out! I have but one wish!
- Is this some manner of trial? To divine the mettle of my soul! Whether it befits a drake warrior?!
- (On defeat) Face Bayle the Dread, and when you do… Summon me. Summon my soul.
- (On player kill) You are no drake warrior. I fear ye not.
When summoned
- Curse you, Bayle!
- I hereby vow! You will rue this day!
- Behold, a true drake warrior! And I, Igon!
- Your fears made flesh!
- Solid of scale you might be, foul dragon...
- But I will riddle with holes your rotten hide!
- With a hail of harpoons!
- With every last drop of my being!
- (On defeat) A-Ahhhhhh… B...Bayle… You shall know...fear yet...
After Bayle is defeated
- Graaaaaargh!
- Bayle the Dread!
- You shall haunt me no longer!

AnonymousI prefer to walk alone on my path and every single NPC is just an annoying chatterbox to me. So I never summon anybody, especially when the ask for it. And this weakling simply doesn't deserve to be summoned.

Anonymouswhen i met him i said hi gon, when he died i said bye gon. Like if u crey everytim.

AnonymousI ship Bayle and Igon. All the talk of hate is just Igon's love language.

AnonymousYou are doing the Bayle fight wrong if you don't summon him.

AnonymousSeems on brand for the Fextralife community, which largely hates this game, to be united in their adulation of an NPC who is really just a series of vapid declarations of hate.

Anonymous
Anonymousso if I didn't get Ancient Dragon's Blessing before killing the Jegged Peak Drakes, I can't summon Igon to curse Bayle later?

AnonymousI will always summon Igon, even with my no summons run and RL1 runs. Thank you, friend.

AnonymousFew lines of lore, yet so impactful. Jagged peak part of the dlc felt amazing thanks to him. Great npc

Anonymousi refused to summon spirit ash for bayle ( best boss in game), never regretted summoning igon

Anonymous... I killed him..... I did not know that with his death the thread of Prophecy was severed. Now I have to persist in a doomed world, which I have created.

AnonymousHe's literally me. Except for one tiny change: "Miyaazaakiiiii!!!!"

AnonymousThis guy climbed a mountain with half of his limbs just so he could trashtalk dragon-satan personaly

Anonymous"I have no enemies" mfs after I show them a picture of Griffith:

AnonymousHey so called "skilled" players, not only did I summon Igon, I also summoned my mimic so three mighty drake warriors could beat Bayle. Bayle's fears were made flesh, and he rued the day. The three of us unleashed a hail of harpoons. Bayle will haunt Igon no longer.

AnonymousAll the noobism is too much... if you summoned igon you did not beat Bayle. And no the voicelines are not a valid excuse. You didnt beat it.

AnonymousKilling him while he's laying down is so annoying. He has so much hp and keeps using the stupid dragon incant over and over. I just want to end your useless life for the armor dude

Anonymousjust so loud for no reason. I kill him every time just so I don't have to listen to this freak

Anonymous
AnonymousI was playing a randomizer and got the elden beast in Bayle's arena. I summoned Igon and his final "HGGGYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH" after beating the boss went even harder with the "god slain" sound effect.
Also fun little thing, his AI gets disabled as the fight ends, so if he's performing an action when the boss dies, he'll keep repeating that action for as long as he despawns/you sit at a grace. I saw someone on stream having him swap his bow between one hand and two hand, but i got an even funnier one, he kept spamming Greyoll's roar, to the joy of his vocal chords lmao

AnonymousSometimes I feel sorry for Igon. He lost himself in the dragon communion, always hungering and raging. The Dragon Priestess even compares him to Bayle. That's how the devs wanted us to think of him, anyways. I still think the way the community interpreted it is better.

Anonymous
Anonymousfellow tarnished ,do not put him out of his misery, his blood lust canot be stopped by death, he seaks to kill the dread, to be the fear of fear incarnate he is a true drake warior till his last help give him his dieing wish but do not deliver him death.

AnonymousIgon is goated, he tanked and distracted Bayle for me on NG+7. Made the fight surprisingly easy how is this dude so durable?!

AnonymousEverything about this is worthless and only matters if you care about lore. Snooze fest I just killed him whatever

AnonymousBy Radagon, they should turn Elden Ring into an opera.. Even Wagner can't top this!

AnonymousBy Radagon, they should turn Elden Ring into an opera.. Even Wagner can't top this..!

AnonymousCould not stop laughing when I first heard him. Started laughing when he moaned loudly. Calmed down and tried talking then laughed again at the "VILE BAYLE" being so passionate. Laughed again when my friend exclaimed "ah, a dark souls player" at the exquisite pain. And when I thought I was done, he made me laugh while dying against bayle with his top tier hypeman speech. 10/10 my favorite guy of the game(can't even call him an npc, love him too much XD)

AnonymousJokes aside, the voice acting was epic, this guy and Sir Ansbach are now among my most beloved characters in Souls Games

AnonymousDoes he just use the bow? I remember seeing him use dragon communion incants but idk. Wanna do an igon build.

AnonymousI like his voice. Reminds me of the old SNL Bill Brasky sketches. Bro saved me in the Bayle fight. A true hero.

AnonymousI'm doing a "you can only use equipment in the region" run and Igon has the only armor in the jagged peak... Do I fight Bayle armorless or do I kill Igon :(

Anonymousis it finally time to admit he was kinda not that cool actually he was annoying and stupid

AnonymousIf you don't summon igon to fight bayle you're playing the game wrong, bayles theme is in fact igons theme for fighting bayle

Anonymous"Redditors love this character!" My brother in christ, enjoying a well written character does not make a person a redditor. (how did it even become an insult anyway when almost half the souls like community uses reddit?)

AnonymousSince he was talking about the pain with such a voice… I thought maybe he wanted to die… then I hit him again and the voice got more… pleasure in it? So I thought: ok, maybe he needs to be killed for the quest line!
Ah, I messed it up dammit
AnonymousFeels like Rellana's and Romina's voice acting budget all went to this guy

AnonymousFirst encountered him... he had lost use of his limbs so i whacked him around only for him to use greyoll's roar on me a few times. Then he dropped dead and dropped arguably the best greatbow in the game and his bell bearing to buy his unique projectiles to use with the greatbow. Thanks Igon.

AnonymousYou don’t have to actually defeat the first drake. I only ever fought the duo and Igon’s quest still moved forward

Anonymousidk who this guy is but he was laying there shouting so I put him out of his misery

AnonymousGood to know that beating jagged peak drakes is not required for getting his items

AnonymousDaniel Day-Lewis level acting. If you don't summon this guy every time you fight Bayle you're playing the game wrong.

Anonymous
AnonymousO-Oh… Ohh… O-Ohh! Ohhhhhh! The edge… The edge! My arms! My legs! Each lies a bloody gronk! Ah… A-Aaaaaargh! The edge… The exquisite edge…

AnonymousHis dialogue is iconic but he always cucks me by scoring the killing hit on Bayle
10/10 would summon again
AnonymousLintern has arguably set a new bar for video game voice acting I think. It's so good it really steals the show in the game now. Or any game. You just don't get that level of performance in games.

AnonymousAhab was just as arrogant as igon is, a man who believes himself capable of taking down a god even though he himself is mortal.

AnonymousAfter fully exploring the game, exhausting the NPCs dialogue, and reading through FromSoft's convoluted backstory on each of the relevant items, I think I've finally formed a working theory on this guy's sidequest. Don't quote me on this, but I THINK that it's maybe probably likely that Igon wants to kill Bayle.

Anonymous100/10 quest i never knew how much i wanted to be the ishmael to an npc's ahab in a dragon boss fight until now, rage on igon
