Renna is an NPC in Elden Ring. Renna is a blue humanoid character that has four arms and two faces. Renna will give you the ability to summon spirits at a specific point in the game. These spirits come in different forms, including magic, Skeletons, Wolves, and many more. Renna will leave after teaching you how to summon spirits.

Renna can be found in the following location(s):
- Found sitting by the ruins of the Church of Elleh in Limgrave. Return to the Church of Elleh via teleporting on the map menu, after acquiring the ability to summon your Spectral Steed from Melina to find her. [Map Link]
- Manually going back to the Church (via walking there) won't make Renna appear. Sitting at a Site of Grace (any) will not work either.
- Passing the time (done while resting at a Site of Grace), either inside or outside the church, will not make her appear.
- Quitting out of the game and loading back in will not make her appear, regardless of time of the day.
- Time of the day doesn't matter for making her appear. Once the player teleports to the Church of Elleh after acquiring the Spectral Steed Whistle, the time will automatically be set to night.
- After talking to her and opting to tell her that you can summon Torrent, the Spectral Steed, she will gift the player with the Spirit Calling Bell key item, and the Lone Wolf Ashes.
- Found again in Ranni's Rise where she reveals her true identity as Ranni the Witch. Here she begins a long and important quest relevant to much of the game's story.
- If Melina appears to offer the player access to the Roundtable Hold, Ranni will no longer spawn at the Church even if you press cancel and don't actually go. You can still start her quest line at Ranni's Rise.
- If you do not get the Spirit Calling Bell from Renna, you can buy the bell and the Lone Wolf Ashes from the Twin Maiden Husks in the Roundtable Hold.

- There is, in my service, a half-wolven warrior by the name of Blaidd. I would have thee join him in searching for the hidden treasure of Nokron, the Eternal City. I have called Blaidd to greet thee below. Take from him the particulars. Ah, and there wilt thou find Iji, my war counselor, and Seluvis, preceptor in the sorcerous arts, also. Heed not their peculiarities; feel secure in gaining from them what advantage thou canst. I am sure the others will be doing just the same.

- The "Trivia" section on the IMDB page for Elden Ring claims that "Game of Thrones" actress Maisie Williams lends her voice to Renna character in the game's story trailer. However, there are no reliable sources that support this other than people claiming to recognise her voice in various online forums.
- Renna appears to have a spectral mirror image of herself attached to her at the right eye.

Tbf this is not an isolated case of a demigod using a pseudonym for whatever their reason was. (See Morgott/Margit.) I think they just hide their status just for the sake of keeping a watchful eye on you until they reveal their true agendas/identity. Ranni's mentor being "Renna" as far as I've searched, was the community's general assumption.

I don't understand. I know Renna is the name Ranni uses at first, but her real name is Ranni. There is a Ranni's rise, which belongs to Ranni. There's also a Renna's Rise that belongs to... Who? Who is Renna? Is it short for Rennala? Why is it not Rennala's Rise if that's the case? Seluvis didn't name his tower "Selly's Rise," so something tells me there's more to this.

That last point about her not spawning if you go to the roundtable hold is BS. Literally just warped from the hold to church of elleh and Renna was there. Limgrave & Caelid explored, no bosses killed. So going to the hold isn't what triggers her to disappear if she does.

Renna isn't Ranni. Renna is a witch Ranni had previously met that taught Ranni all her cold magic. If you read the Snow Witch set it'll tell you. Renna is just the false name she gives you.

I think the description of how she appears by the Church of Elleh is wrong. I went to Roundtable Hold AND I defeated Margit, then I fast travelled back to Church of Elleh and Renna was there.
Renna being Ranni sounds like a distinct possibility. Sure, she says that wasn't her real name, but really...it seems so random for her to introduce herself as Renna only to later just be all "lolkidding!"

Curiously, both Ranni and Renna have the same character model, with the Spectral Simulacrum with the shared right eye. Therefore it could very well be possible that we only interact with the same being in the game. In the Church of Elleh we could be interacting with Renna, who could be the Spectral Simulacrum part of the being, which Ranni is using as a precaution when interacting with new companions. Later in the game, when we are more familiar with the being, we could be interacting with Ranni instead of the Spectral Simulacrum.

Too bad Renna only appears in the beginning of the game. I was hoping to see more of her. We hear her speak mid-way through the Rennala boss but never get to see her again past the church. I was so disappointed when I got to Renna's Rise for the first time and she wasn't there.

There is an inaccuracy in this. I went to the round table and still teleported to the church and met Renna who gave me the bell and ashes. Perhaps there is another trigger shortly after the roundtable that prevents her from appearing at the church, but for me i can confirm she does.

Think she was one of those Wraithcallers you first meet in Liurnia. Ranni gives you the spirit calling bell, on behalf of "Torrents former master". Now the only other person who is aquainted with Torrent is Melina, who could, and probably would, just give it you herself seeing as she has an interest in you succeeding in your mission of getting to the Erdtree. The spirit calling bell, the doll Ranni inhabits having four arms, just like the wraith-callers, it just seems like Fromsoftware devs are calling us to make that connection.

If you kill yourself on the cliffs next to ringleader's evergaol using bloody slash you can spawn at the stake of marika and bypass her whole questline to get to the moonlight altar plateau. You can give her the ring even if it's not in your inventory and trigger the scene for the darkmoon greatsword super early in the game.

I think that Renna was likely the previous (Or at least A previous) owner of Torrent.
Ranni was taught by Renna, and gifts the player the ability to call spirits. As such, it could be assumed that Renna could call upon Torrent, a spectral steed, being a master at the spirit summoning magics.
As Ranni also mentions you riding Torrent as an indicator that you're to be entrusted with the ability to call spirits, it's likely she had a connection to Torrent. Which given the only people we know that Ranni has been close with are: Rennala, Iji, Blaidd, Seluvis and Renna.
The only 2 that seem likely to have a connection with Torrent are Rennala and Renna, but given that Rennala spends her time in Raya Lucaria (Being the Queen and massively depressed) it's probably that Renna is the one with the connection to Torrent.
It's also worth noting that there might be a connection in the fact that Ranni's teleportation and Torrents summoning animations use similar blue particle effects, which is also shared by Glintstone Dragon Adula when she teleports away from the Three Sisters (Also, Melina too)
How Melina ended up with Torrent, it's possible that she was guiding another Tarnished who was gifted Torrent and the ability to call spirits by Ranni/Renna before they ultimately failed and she got the whistle back.
Who that was, is uncertain, arguments can be made for Vyke or Bernahl as both are mentioned to have gotten far in the quest to become Elden Lord. But both also have arguments against them too (Vyke invades near a church with a Maiden Corpse which could have been his maiden. Bernahl it's noted he lost his maiden when she "Threw herself into the fire" which doesn't sound like he failed and would cause Melina to take Torrent back)

Renna was Ranni's teacher in her type of magic. She specialized in frost magic as can be seen from the flavortext of the snow witch gear in game. Ranni used the name Renna as a slight misdirection to keep our character in the dark of her true nature and identity, in this meeting she was just scoping out how we were and if she could trust us, when we meet her again at Ranni's rise she clarifies her name.

Renna is not Ranni, she even says so after you go to her town, Renna is a completely different person, probable Melina since she doesn't want you to know her real intent and why Ranni borrowed her name to trick you into trusting her. But not like any of this lore is really clear or definite.

Renna still appeared at the Church of Elleh. I went to the Roundtable Hold via the Dragonbarrow after teleporting from a sending gate. Melina appeared when I rested at the site of grace inside the Bestial Sanctum, got the option to go to the Roundtable Hold, then so on and so forth. At that time, I forgot to go back to the Church of Elleh so I teleported back there and Renna still appeared as usual.
I think the reason why is depending on which region you are in prior to entering Roundtable Hold, it affects the pattern of an NPCs storyline. For example, if you went to Liurnia first before going to Weeping Peninsula, and going back to the latter, Irina, the first NPC in that area, is already found dead despite not progressing through her questline. But when I went to Caelid and back to WP, she was still alive.

What if Ranni when losing her body had to possess a doll made by her image and use it as her new body.
As a result the spectral face next to the doll is actually Rannis spirit possessing the doll.
This could mean that there is no actual person named Renna and maybe that's the name Ranni gave to her doll as a child

I think that renna is an aunt of ranni and a sister of renala.
It would explain the mentionning of multiple carian princesses, despite renala establishing carian royalty as its first queen. The sister of the queen would also be a princess, and was first in line until radagon and renala got busy. As Ranni's aunt and maybe godmother, she'd be in a prime position to mentor ranni, with renala either busy with radagon or his egg.
And it fits the R theme we got going.

I believe Renna is actually the 2nd spirit face of Ranni's. The doll body was created in Ranni's mentor's likeness and it would make sense that the spirit face matches the doll's.
If the spirit face was Ranni's then it would look different from the doll's.
The two likely inhabit the same body and it was really Renna that gives the player the bell near the start of the game.

Interesting note: if you meet Renna for the first time in her tower after defeating Radahn and not following Rogier's quest line then she will only mention Iji and Seluvis as her followers. Presumably at this point Iji has imprisoned Blaidd and Renna is aware of it (or even ordered it).

I was steadily bringing along multiple npc quests and had Ranni up to the "wait for Blaidd at riverfront" step. While moving the manor quest line I went to Altus Plateau. Since killing that lord blocks out a few thing at that spot I went to Rahdan. Blaidd was there and it bypassed the Seledin portion of the steps.
It doesn't interfere with the rest, but this is second run through and missed that dialog both times now. Not sure if it leads to anything good. Just a warning is all. You can't give dung eater the potion if you dont want to break that or some of the manor line, since you need two Lord's. I'm sure there is a work around I didn't see...

For those who cares, if you progress Roggier's quest
(to the point he asks you to go see Ranni) before talking to her at the rise first, her attitude will be slightly different/ less friendly since she knows you came to her for information of the black knife.
That said it's only 3 to 4 lines of different dialogue and you can progress her quest just fine.

Reading the context clues around things like the snow witch set and the lore behind Ranni, it seems the like theory is:
Ranni had a different body.
Ranni met a teacher in the woods one day to teach her magic.
The teacher is Renna.
Snow witch set said that Ranni's doll body is based of the snow witches appearance.
So Ranni you see is a doll that contains the soul of Ranni and is made to look like her teacher Renna. Hence that is why there are two towers and they are so close to each other.
Also this game suggests that mages like to have their own respective towers.

If you didn't get the bell and wolves from her, you can start her quest line, with Rogier's quest to find the death rune. He'll have you go in as a spy, but Ranni sees what you're trying to do. She let's you in anyways, because she's curious on what you'll do next.

Renna and Ranni are not the same character, behind caria manor there are three structures, one for Ranni, one for Seluvis and one for Renna, which means, Renna is not Ranni.
At some point when talking to Ranni, she mentions that she took another witch's form, which i presume is Renna's form.
The question is, did she take her form long ago, or did it happen during the game, while we were fighting Rennala.

There's some cool lore behind her backstory that's pure speculation. But, can make sense. For example, Ranni's primary motivation to acquire power probably was stemmed from her mother?
- Radagon/Her husband left her to be Marika's consort, effectively, breaking her mother's heart.
- Ranni had Godwyn assassinated stealing a fragment of the rune of death and having the black knives assassins do it.
- Ranni's wants to bathe the world in moonlight. This is also exactly what Rennala asks Ranni to do when you defeat Rennala.
