Fia is a Tarnished NPC in Elden Ring. Fia is a deathbed companion that you will find inside a small bedroom at the Roundtable Hold. Her embrace will give you a special consumable that can increase poise called the Baldachin's Blessing, at the cost of a debuff that slightly decreases your maximum HP. You can ostensibly come back for more if you happen to run out of this consumable. Fia's Questline Steps are highlighted below.
See Fia, Deathbed Companion Lore
Greetings, great champion called by grace. I am Fia. Circumstances have compelled my stay at the Roundtable Hold.
Fia, Deathbed Companion Location in Elden Ring
Fia can be found at the Roundtable Hold and later again after defeating Fia's Champions in Deeproot Depths.
- This NPC moves.
- This NPC can be fought and killed, but only in a later stage of her questline.
- If killed, drops:
Fia's Hood
Fia's Robe
- If killed, drops:
- Grants Baldachin's Blessing if you allow her to hold you. Decreases your max. HP by 5% for as long as you keep it in your inventory. After consuming it and its effect ending, you will regain your full HP.
- She grants you Baldachin's Blessing infinitely as long as you don't have one currently in your inventory.
Fia Questline: How to complete Fia, Deathbed Companion's Quest
Note: The beginning of Fia’s questline is skipped after gaining access to Crumbling Farum Azula
- After starting the festival at Redmane Castle to fight Starscourge Radahn, you can return to Fia and embrace her. She will gain an additional line of dialogue during which she will hand you a Weathered Dagger. Take this dagger to D, Hunter of the Dead at the Roundtable Hold to progress the quest.
- Talk to Sorcerer Rogier about his interest in the Black Knives, then speak to Fia again. She will give you a Knifeprint Clue that reveals the location of a Black Knifeprint.
- After this, reload the area. You will find Fia in a newly opened room near the blacksmith, but then she will disappear.
- Make your way to the Across the Roots Site of Grace [Map Link] in Deeproot Depths and enter the boss arena to the north. After defeating Fia's Champions, you will find her seated at the back of the arena. Speak with her and choose to be hugged to advance her quest. She will then ask you to bring her the Cursemark of Death, a key item from Ranni's questline. If Fia is not present and has already killed D and has vanished from Roundtable Hold, you may need to take extra steps to make her appear. Defeat the Valiant Gargoyles and rest in the coffin in their boss arena to reach Deeproot Depths. Fia may appear after taking the coffin route to Deeproot Depths. Alternatively, you can access Deeproot Depths by revealing two illusory walls south of the Frenzied Flame Proscription Site of Grace [Map Link].
- Note that a big chunk of her questline can be skipped, if one so desires (main Quest spoilers ahead!):
Once the player progressed through the main events of the game up to the point of burning the Erdtree, Fia will relocate to the Deeproot Depths even if the player never interacted with her. This way, all of the steps mentioned above are skipped. [Elden Ring Map Link]- The arena is large. Run up to the way gate in the northeast of the area, which is currently disabled, to trigger the fight.
- You will then be allowed to summon your spirit ash
- Fia's Champions will spawn.
- If the player chooses to use this method, they will still find D, Hunter of the Dead's corpse on the ground where he is normally found (at Roundtable Hold, down the hall from Hewg), but Fia will not stand above it and then vanish since she already left the Roundtable Hold.
- Note that a big chunk of her questline can be skipped, if one so desires (main Quest spoilers ahead!):
- Bringing back the Cursemark of Death will nearly end her quest. After you give it to her, she will give the player a Radiant Baldachin's Blessing. Exhaust her dialog and upon reloading the area, she'll be asleep. Inspecting her will let you enter the Deathbed Dream to fight Lichdragon Fortissax.
- Winning this fight will allow you to pick up the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince from Fia, which will in turn allow you to obtain an alternate ending.
- After acquiring the rune, you can give the Twinned armor set to D's brother (NPC sitting on the floor past the corridor to the southeast of the Valiant Gargoyle boss' grace site "Great Waterfall Basin"). Upon returning to Fia, you will find Fia's Set next to her, and if you reload the area, D's brother will leave behind the Twinned Set you gave him, as well as the Inseparable Sword. Killing D's brother will also get you the armor set and the sword.
- You can prevent this scene by killing D in his first location, getting his armor, and giving it to his brother early. After reloading the area he can be fought.
Dialogue in Elden Ring: Fia
Introduction
- Greetings, great champion called by grace. I am Fia.
Circumstances have compelled my stay at the Roundtable Hold.
Great champion, would you allow me to hold you, but briefly?
Perhaps you might share with me some of your lifely vigour, and your stout-heartedness.
Doing so will grant me the warmth of a champion. And you, I am sure, will bear a baldachin's blessing.
Do you think it vulgar, perhaps? Where I come from, it is a sacred act.
Letting her hold you
- "Ah, my thanks, great champion. You are...very warm..."
[Player obtains Baldachin's Blessing]
"What you felt light up inside you was a baldachin's blessing. Though it is but a fleeting thing, I am afraid.
Come back to me, should you require another. I will take you in my arms as often as you need".
Talk in secret
- I was known as a Deathbed Companion, where I come from.
After I received the warmth and lifely vigour from a number of champions,
I lay with the remains of an exalted noble, to grant him another chance at life. To do so is the purpose of my being.
But before I could bear the noble into new life, I was awakened by the guidance of grace, and chased from my birthplace.
Pray, be kind. Despite all that, I still wish to be Deathbed Companion.
So please, let me hold you like this, as often as it takes.
About the Black Knifeprint (Do you know...?)
- My dear... Have you ever heard of black knifeprints? Dear Rogier likes to talk of it when abed.
The ancient plot, in which the first of the Demigods was slain. The black knifes wielded by the assassins who committed the act,
along with the impressions they made, somehow hide the truth of the conspiracy. These grand affairs are hardly my forté...
But dear Rogier began to weep as he spoke... - In truth I've heard tell from someone else, about the black knifeprints that fascinate dear Rogier so.
(receives: Knifeprint Clue)
But It wouldn't be right to give this to him, stuck as he is in the Roundtable Hold.
Perhaps you could make use of it?
About Rogier
- I heard that you lent a hand to dear Rogier. He seemed positively elated.
He must be possessed of great mental fortitude. It anchors his will, and sustains him, despite his grievous wounds.
You truly are a champion. To dear Rogier, and myself, too.
(receive: Sacrificial Twig x1)
- (May I ask a favor?) "My dear? Might I ask something of you? Could you please find the owner of this dagger, and return it to them?" [Receive Weathered Dagger] "A certain person gave it to me as a gift. It's a very precious thing. It must have a special place in the owner's heart. So I would like for the owner to have it back, if you wouldn't mind."
- (Upon D's death) "Finally, it is returned to its rightful place. The stolen hallowbrand, of the exalted noble. And now, I must bid you goodbye as well. Though I ask you deliver this message to the Roundtable Hold. I am Fia, Deathbed Companion. Hark, Roundtable. Disturb not the Death of Godwyn, the exalted. We, who humbly live in Death...Live in waiting, to one day welcome our Lord. What right does anyone have to object? Our Lord will rise. The Lord of the many, and the meek."
At Deeproot Depths after defeating her champions.
- "Ah...there you are.
I knew you would come.
What is it you intend?
To deny us, and our ways?
Like the dogmatic brutes of the Golden Order?" - (Answering her "That's Right")
"I see. Then you must kill me.
For I am the companion of Godwyn, Prince of Death.
I wished to be a mother to Those Who Live in Death.
So it is, that any loathing, any hatred that overshadows them...
I must bear, as a matter of duty, with my own flesh.
(You can talk to her again to get the chance to change your choice)
"Go on, kill me.
You deny us, do you not?
Because we deign to live in Death, and wish our Lord to rise to glory. - (Answering "No, I want to be held")
"You are an odd one.
I am the guardian of Those Who Live in Death.
They call me a foul and rotten witch.
Yet you still wish to be held by me?"
Proceeds to hug her. - Talk in Secret 1
"Have you ever seen a hallowbrand?
When the first of the demigods died, his flesh was marked with the half-wheel wound of the centipede.
Godwyn's hallowbrand has since been recovered at the Roundtable Hold.
But there is another hallowbrand out there somewhere.
And I must find it.
Before the time comes we receive our Lord." - Talk in Secret 2
"When Godwyn died, a hallowbrand scored his flesh.
But another exists. Another mark in the shape of the half-wheel wound of the centipede.
And I must find it.
Before the time comes we receive our Lord.
My hands will be dirtied once more by the deed.
Will you still let me hold you, even then?"
Gives you the choice to "Give Cursemark of Death". - §Give Cursemark of Death:
"This...is the other hallowbrand.
How did you...
Oh, my utmost thanks.
With this, Godwyn can take his rightful place as First of the Dead.
And claim a second, illustrious life.
You are my-- our true champion.
And though I can't be of any use to you...
Can I hold you tight, if only for a moment?"
Holds tighter.
Grants Radiant Baldachin's Blessing. - Talk in Secret 3
"I will soon lay with Godwyn.
And it will surely stir within me.
The new life of the golden prince, and first Dead of the demigods,
as the rune of Those Who Live in Death.
Please, do one thing for me.
Brandish this child, my rune, and take for yourself the throne.
Stay the persecution of Those Who Live in Death.
By becoming our Elden Lord." - Talk in Secret 4
"I will soon lay with Godwyn.
To conceive my child, the rune.
Brandish my rune, and take for yourself the throne.
Stay the persecution of Those Who Live in Death.
By becoming our Elden Lord." - §Talk in Secret 5 (Being held after reloading, before she sleeps)
"This is goodbye, my dear.
But I am satisfied.
I choose to lie with Godwyn of my own will. Not the remains of one chosen for me.
And I will bear a child.
Who will inherit your warmth, too.
What greater blessing could there be, but to be born a Deathbed Companion?"
When attacked
- Godwyn... Is that you, dear?
Upon defeat
- Will your kind never stop? Ravaging... the weak?

Fia Lore
Lore Items Related to Fia
Weathered Dagger
Dagger received from Fia, the Deathbed Companion.
She wishes for it to be returned to its rightful owner.
It was once a special weapon of gold and silver intertwined, but is now worn down and marred by a black gash.
Baldachin's Blessing
Favor bestowed by a deathbed companion. Protection of a hidden temple in the guise of a bedchamber.
Uses FP to temporarily boost poise.
The favor allows one to forget any aches and pains. In Death, there is only peace, for in Death, there can be no sensation.
Radiant Baldachin's Blessing
Protection of a hidden temple in the guise of a bedchamber. This blessing is of the utmost rarity.
Uses FP to temporarily raise poise. The effect lasts longer than a mere favor.
It's said a deathbed companion will only produce a blessing of this kind for a champion but once in her entire life. The sole blessing which she imbues of her own volition.
Fia's Mist
Sorcery of Fia, the Deathbed Companion.
Creates a deathly mist before the caster, which inflicts Death blight upon those who enter. This sorcery can be cast while in motion. Charging enhances range of the mist.
This sorcery was developed to oppose the Roundtable Hold, and is effective only against the Tarnished.
Lionel's Armor
Round iron armor with a banner extending from its back. Worn by the Lionel the Lionhearted.
When this chivalrous dauntless knight met Fia, who had been driven from her home, he declared himself to be her father.
Mending Rune of the Death-Prince
Rune gestated by Fia, the Deathbed Companion. Used to restore the fractured Elden Ring when brandished by the Elden Lord.
Formed of the two hallowbrand half-wheels combined, it will embed the principle of life within Death into Order.
The Golden Order was created by confining Destined Death. Thus, this new Order will be one of Death restored.
Dialogue Related to Fia
D, Hunter of the Dead
I have a matter of my own to attend to. I spotted the mark of the centipede here in the village. An ill-omened symbol that should not be. Someone, or something, threatens the sanctity of the Golden Order. And must be eradicated.
I serve the Golden Order. That I might put this crooked land to rights. Following only the guidance of the great Elden Ring. Those Who Live in Death fall outside the principles of the Golden Order. Their mere existence sullies the guidance of gold. Tainting its truth. And so it is the vermin must be exterminated... Down to the very last.
Well, what have we here? How did you get your hands on that dagger? ...Well. That hardly matters. I know very well whose dagger it is. Why don't I return it to them for you? Good work, bringing this to me.
Sorcerer Rogier
I'm afraid there's something I must tell you. Do you know of Those Who Live in Death? The very notion of life in death defies the Golden Order. By D's account, these defiled fiends must be expunged. But truth be told, I seek the cursemark to save them. You may find this peculiar, but I discovered something in my examination of the Night of the Black Knives. These souls have committed no offence. They have every right to life, only, they happened to touch upon a flaw in the Order.
Hmm. Maybe I should tell you. Lately, I feel I'm on the precipice... Of falling into a deep...fathomless slumber. And I have an inkling it could spell trouble for you, somehow. So I just wanted to get the apology out of the way, beforehand.
D, Beholder of Death
You will know vengeance for Darian. The wrath of D...
Ah. Hello. The rotten witch is dead. The Golden Order, unsullied. Now I can look my brother Darian in the eye. Honeyed rays of gold, deliver my spirit.
Darian, now I have no regrets. Honeyed rays of gold, deliver my spirit.
Very well. Then you are a blight. A defiler of the Golden Order, and murderer of my brother. Die! Die! Die! I'll grind your corpse into that vile wench's rotting remains. A witch's eternal embrace, just as you wished!

AnonymousI'm confused with her quest. Even as a concept of deathbed, I still don't know as to why she has that role. My question is, if you give her the mark, she will be in dream state, so what is deathbed dream? Did she gave all the vigor + including hers to Godwyn? In that moment, I thought she's already dead, so why D twin brother killed her again? Wouldn't Fia ending would be pointless if she's dead or the ritual is already done through mending? I just think Goldmask and Ranni quest are more interesting.

AnonymousWhy'd they have to make her hugs take ten whole business days?

AnonymousId love to come up with a slur for "those who live in death" and then deliberately use it around fia to annoy her
Gonna go with "rattlers".
AnonymousThese npc storylines aren’t interesting or even reasonable (ie guy you were talking friendly with 2 seconds ago is now randomly trying to kill you), just tedious. Fromsoft makes incredible boss fights but the storylines need some serious improvements

AnonymousI'm a casual gamer, I just hopped around the map and suddenly I got -5% HP and don't even know why. UNTIL NOW, Damn it

AnonymousThe skeleton guys in souls games are my favorite ones.
The way they stand up and scratch their head, always grinning- and they have great weapons to share like the grave scythe and executioner's axe.
I like to train with them; they get right back up once you beat them.
Helping Fia create the mending rune makes sure everyone can enjoy the company of our calcium-rich friends.
Now if only there was a way to play as a skeleton this game would be complete.
AnonymousWe of the BKA (Black Knives Association) would like to refute these claims that we had anything to do with Godwyn's death and encourage people not to listen to the fake news of the tarnished. for those still raising doubt, we advise you to meet with a Mr. Ryker at the heart of the volcano, we ensure you those rumors of him devouring people are also false.

AnonymousFia.
F I A.
Sounds almost like FBI + CIA = FIA.
>Enlists the help of random nobodies and "hugs" them l, turning them into helpers (sleeper agents).
>Makes a tool to kill stealthily (Fias mist).
>Engineers a marginalised group to overthrow the current establishment (TWLID).
From this we can deduce that Fia is a foreign agent sent to the lands between to destabalize the current political regime in order to allow a foreign power to take over.
AnonymousTypical gold digger going for the rich guy, even when he's dead.

AnonymousKilled D in limgrave first encounter, now Fia is gone. Coincidence? I think not!

AnonymousShe pulls up the covers to dutch oven her lovers - that's how they die chat. That's what Fia's Mist is chat. Chat?

AnonymousI find it annoying that the game requires you to get held by this aids ridden ***** even once just to get the opportunity to kill her. She and Ranni are both the characters I have only ever cooperated because the game's quests required me to do so. Hated them both.

AnonymousThis girl is delusional after. Those that live in death are not sentient beings or have anything that could be considered close to sentience. They are literally rotten corpses animated by deathblight and have no agency of their own. They're not "oppressed" they are literally a blight and a problem in the lands between and for their own sake as well as the sake of others need to be wiped out.

Anonymousas a bloodborne player i only know of her bc i saw her on r34 (the video was very well done)

AnonymousKinda turned on by her until she banged a giant dead fish at the end of the questline. Woulda killed her if the corpse aids didnt.

Anonymousif you move the camera to see her ass crack, she's got some pimples and moles down there. is there a lore reason for this? could it be godwyn?

Anonymous"Receiving Fia's embrace while playing online will result in the player's build being uploaded to the Elden Ring server to be used as one of the randomized Fia's Champions."
That is super neat.
Anonymous
AnonymousI've never used that blessing, so I guess I've played 350 hours of my first main and DLC playthrough with -5% max HP. That's what you get for hugging random women.

AnonymousFor anyone else who was struggling to progress the quest past defeating her champions, you have to disagree to killing her (dialog option). Then you can let her hold you, and go through all the dialog options. Finally if you reload by fast traveling away and back she will be asleep which allows you to enter her dream.

Anonymous"somehow hide the truth of the conspiracy" - the truth is: night of black knives was godwyn's plan, arranged as an assassination, he died to become prince of death and start the age of duskborn, you were fooled and now no more

Anonymous
AnonymousI don't want to become Elden lord, I don't want to save the land in between, I don't want to become the strongest
all I wanted was her
Anonymoussmh my head at all these simps thinking they have a chance with Fia. She wouldn't give you the time of day. Come back when your face is melted half off your skull and you've grown a merman tail.

AnonymousFia is a tarnished, someone should add that to the page. (look in the intro cutscene, shes alongside the other tarnished when the narrator says "call of long lost grace speaks to us all")

AnonymousJust noticed she is using dead people as her champions, kind of like how Miquella is using his dead brothers as his champion. Both even hug people to control or manipulate them.

AnonymousGives you corpse aids without even getting to first base. D did nothing wrong.

AnonymousKilled her heros, spoke to her, exhausted dialogue, gave her that curse/mark of death thing, didn't touch her, and now she is no longer to be found in the underground area for the "secret" boss.
Bugged? Or have I missed something?
Left the area three times, and came back, still nothing. Anyone else come across this bug?
AnonymousJust killed her and got locked out of Fortissax. Would have been nice to know but whatever.

I have played this game for 500 hours and have only just learned that I had a 5% health debuff the entire time.

AnonymousHow would one ever think to go back to Fia in the middle of the Radahn festival?

AnonymousGodwyn = Gravelord Nito. The Ravelord never dies. At least not twice.

The skip part of the quest should be at the start of the guide. No point in telling us after we already did everything...

Some bois are MIA, some are KIA, me? I'm FIA hell yeah now leave us alone would ya

Anonymousneed a skip animation button so badly i hate this questline for that reason alone

Anonymousspent 30 mins trying to look under fia only to find out that she was blonde! what the ****, not even a redhead which is the point of elden ring! get this blonde bimbo out of my game

Anonymous>Be Fia
>Keep talking about how coming back from the dead is cool
>Die forever and don't come back lol
AnonymousLove how her artwork in the intro cinematic makes it look like she greased that dude's Treespear till he died

AnonymousI’ve been playing Elden ring since day 1 and this is the first time I do this quest line. It’s a fun quest and makes me sad shadow of the erdtree wasn’t godwyn focused. Anyways I absolutely destroyed D’s brother when I saw he defiled Fia’s body after she had died.

AnonymousSo i wish I knew that when you gave D's brother the armor, he goes and kills Fia. I mean she's kind of already dead as she's laying woth the prince of death or whatever but still. Him defiling the corpse kind of left for a sour taste for the rune of death ending. I understand not writing for sake of spoilers but I only did this because the wiki told me too anyway lmao. Should have put a spoiler warning and explained what happens so people could avoid FIA being killed / defiled by D. Oh well just being nitpicky lol

AnonymousI spent like 2 hours trying to see under Fia's and Nepheli's clothes to see their undies or something better... I saw their panties but it was more luck than skill. I tried to make that again but it is too hard to repeat. Have you guys some tips, advices? -PKCS Pope

AnonymousStill Messed up ending. It hardly fixed the death rune absence in the Golden Order. Living beings should be able to die a normal death and - the most important part - STAY DEAD. Not live in death and spread the deathblight onto others. And that rune can be barely considered as Godwyn either, because his soul is gone. It is not him anymore, whatever that corpse is.

AnonymousMy only motivation was the hidden trophy from fortisaxx lmao

AnonymousMy favorite character by far every time I feel bad I just sneak into fias room and press the Hug Me button. Really only one complaint I wish the hug animation was even slower and more drawn out I want to really feel like I'm being hugged by Fia like she doesnt wanna let go could you do that for me Fromsoft?

Anonymous
AnonymousMissing some steps but okay I'll just figure it tf out myself

Anonymous
AnonymousWhen god sees this comment section he will for sure leave us.
Please take a step away from the computer to look outside and watch the beautiful word if not for me, then for god!
Have a blessed day!
AnonymousI lover her so much!! I wish I could repay her by hugging her cold feet

Anonymousso upon recieving the radiant blessing, regular one becomes unobtainable?

AnonymousAfter the DLC I used a Hefty Fetid Pot to kill her in the depths. So satisfying. Rest in dung lol. Going to use Light of Miquella next NG cycle.

AnonymousI finished her quest then gave D's brother the armour and she got the rightful end by his brother while I killed the dragon... win win

I guess you should use the secret mohg's palace entrance to deeproot depth's so you can summon totally not D to help with the 2 gargoyles

AnonymousThis questline proves the tarnished have the mind of a child to go through hell and back and just to get another hug.

Anonymous
AnonymousThis entire quest is extremely dumb. Fia is a moron who dedicated her life to saving wretched little undead creatures. Those things were literally born of the abomination of Godwyn's soul murder. The entire thing is messed up and should be put to right with the light of the Golden Order. Fia should make better use of her beauty by becoming my paramour instead.

AnonymousGuys if I can fight fortissax but I have burned the erdtree can I still fight with fortissax?

AnonymousThey should have mentioned if Rogier's head is down you're locked from the quest until you burn the erdtree

AnonymousSo, technical question - if I kill her in Deeproot instead of doing her quest will it lock me out of Inseparable Sword?

Anonymous
AnonymousFia didn’t choose being a deathbed companion, it was forced upon her, and upon finding the prince of death, she became inspired, to use this ability to bring about a gentler age for all those who live in death, she seeks to give godwyn a new body (the mending rune quite literally reincarnates him) and something many of you fail to realize is godwyn is a part of it as well, as in, he’s taking part and protecting her, if you attack her he’ll it you with an ancient rancor, and even fia is surprised and asks “godwyn, is that you my love” and his death knights from the dlc are seeking the same age fia is, like it’s spelt out word for word. She spent her life being persecuted for what she was made to be, and through all the persecution, chose selflessness, and gave everything for the age she thought was the fairest, those who brandish the rune of the duskborn are creating a world no longer devoid of death, a world where those who live in death need not fear the persecution of order, for heresy is but a contrivance, all things, can be conjoined

Anonymousso people call D a mindless fanatic for hunting the undead, after him literally witnessing some mindless skeletons killing a peasant (Limgrave), then Fia murders him in cold blood, and his brother justifiably seeks revenge? I see nothing wrong here except a disgusting woman laying with the dead despite HERSELF saying she no longer needs to and she cant let go of a dead soul corpse.

AnonymousThe quests in this game are so ****ing dumb and bad holy ****

Anonymous
AnonymousUnderstanding what is happening does not come to mind right away, especially if the player skips dialogues, maybe sometimes a new game will be needed. Although this has already been written several times.
Сreating a rune kills her, a twin cannot kill an already dead body, this fool stabs a corpse thinking he has taken revenge. Twin won’t appear there if you don’t give him the armor. The desire of some to see “revenge” is so great that they wishful thinking. She dies after a battle with the dragon, when she receives Godwyn's "soul" and creates a new rune( using also old fragments and all her life energy), a powerful artifact the creation of which no deathbed companion can survive. She understands that she will die for the sake of the future one way or another all deathbed companions end their lives with a sacrifice for something greater. Rune created and she fulfilled her destiny. It's sad that there is no variety in quests for endings, and some aspects cannot be changed.
Anonymous
Anonymousi don't understand these mending runes quests, you barely even talk to these characters then suddenly they decide you're their lord. other than ranni and shabriri's endings the others don't make any sense and are just filler endings

You do her quest because you think the death ending is good. I do her quest because I want Fortissax to be able to finally rest. We are not the same (this post was sponsored by Goldmask).

AnonymousI'm at the end of the game, and today I just learnt I did 80% of my playthrough with a friggin 5% HP debuff.

AnonymousI feel like a lot of people don't get her deal specifically because they don't understand D as a character and how he reflects her. He's the type of person Goldmask is said to have lamented over, a raving fanatic who hunts Those Who Live In Death only because he has been told it's unquestionably right to do so. Not only that but his sword (among other things) imply he has some deep pain or even self-hatred over being an "accursed being" of a kind and it is being taken advantage of by Golden Order fanatics, probably only being accepted for his extreme willingness to hunt the Golden Order's enemies. D hunts those labeled as cursed on behalf of those who labeled them as such and he does so despite himself having an unnatural ability to cheat death. It's similar to Loretta previously hunting albenaurics despite being one herself.
When D kills Fia he talks with so much sadistic hatred, wanting what she considers her children to witness her corpse and the fact that it is revenge for his brother is an after thought. D is in total acceptance of being a tool of the Golden Order. He will kill a woman who, as we see if we try to attack her, won't even fight back. Conversely, Fia implies with her last bit of dialogue that she previously did not choose who she laid with and that it was chosen for her. But now, she is making her own choice and deciding for herself what she thinks is right.
TLDR: Fia and D have a lot of interesting parallels but where one became a shield to the accursed, the other became a sword for which to hunt them.
