Lore Items Related to Goldmask
Goldmask's Rags
Worn rags that just barely cover the body.
Lord Goldmask felt no draw to the vain excess of clothing; what use is finery to one who seeks greater brilliance?
Radiant Gold Mask
A mask designed to resemble a blazing golden halo. Created and left behind by Lord Goldmask, a staunch pursuer of Golden Order fundamentalism.
Strengthens Golden Order incantations.
Its striking design represents both the brilliant inspiration that once shone upon him, and the vision of a ring that he will surely find at the end of his pursuit.
"To you who seek to shine as I do, wear it well!"
Order Healing
One of the incantations of the Golden Order fundamentalists. Used by hunters of Those Who Live in Death.
Alleviates death blight buildup.
The noble Goldmask lamented what had become of the hunters. How easy it is for learning and learnedness to be reduced to the ravings of fanatics; all the good and the great wanted, in their foolishness, was an absolute evil to contend with.
Does such a notion exist in the fundamentals of Order?
Law of Regression
Incantation of the Golden Order fundamentalists. One of the key fundamentals.
Heals all negative statuses, dispels special effects, and reveals mimicry in all its forms.
The fundamentalists describe the Golden Order through the powers of regression and causality. Regression is the pull of meaning; that all things yearn eternally to converge.
Law of Causality
One of the incantations of the Golden Order fundamentalists. One of the key fundamentals.
Manifests a small ring of causality within that allows the caster to automatically retaliate upon receiving a certain number of blows.
The fundamentalists describe the Golden Order through the powers of regression and causality. Causality is the pull between meanings; that which links all things in a chain of relation.
Mending Rune of Perfect Order
Rune discovered by the noble Goldmask. Used to restore the fractured Elden Ring when brandished by the Elden Lord.
A rune of transcendental ideology which will attempt to perfect the Golden Order.
The current imperfection of the Golden Order, or instability of ideology, can be blamed upon the fickleness of the gods no better than men. That is the fly in the ointment.

Brother Corhyn
Though he was but a Tarnished, living outside the Lands Between, he was a great scholar, who foresaw the coming guidance of grace. And now, I hear he has come to the Lands Between alone, to contemplate the Golden Order...
The Golden Order is founded on the principle that Marika is the one true god. However... The name of Marika's second husband, King Consort Radagon, also appeared... Who exactly was Radagon? The master is stumped.
I've…been gripped by a terrifying thought. The rhythms and calculus of the master's finger... betray a suspicion of the holism of the Golden Order. A conceit, I am afraid, that cannot be overlooked.
Only, if the master were true to the Golden Order, why would he think to breach this forbidden mount of fire?

AnonymousIf only Solaire could have found his way to the lands between.
The combined radiance of both him and goldmask would have shone brilliantly and blinded the heavens.
Solaire would totally do age of order ending.
AnonymousIt's insane how a character with zero dialogue and a horribly boring quest managed to gaslight half the playerbase into thinking his ending is the best in the game just because his character design and pose are funny.
The sun is but a single star. Ranni's stars are countless. Goldmid doesn't deserve our time.

AnonymousI think his ending perfectly explains what Sir Ansbach says to us with his last words being:
"Righteous Tarnished. Become our new lord. A lord not for gods, but for men."
And it just feels like the most righteous and selfless ending as well. My headcannon. The Tarnished kills perhaps every powerful mortal and God there is, and sees protecting the people of the lands-between as his responsibility. Along his journey, he finds out a lot of things that made up the Golden Order was long corrupt, i.e two fingers, and removes their influence. Unlike Ranni's ending, where you leave the earth for a thousand year voyage under the wisdom of the moon, you actually stay to protect your people whilst also, in a way, empowering them, as now God's and Demigod's are to be held responsible for their actions, just like men. And with Marika literally a shell of her former self, unable to speak or command, the Tarnished should be allowed to regally change the rules/traditions of the Golden Order. And with Nepheli Loux on the throne of Limgrave, easening your burden, alongside most major threats evaporated from the lands between thanks to your undeniable prowess and strength, you claim an age of actual prosperity and order. A Lord for men.
AnonymousBest character in the game. Best drip, best dialogue, best ending and, because he gave me some funny gestures, best friend :)

AnonymousUpon collecting the rune at the end of the quest, my sister asked me, "Why is he dead though? What happened to him?" and in that moment, I realized we were standing at the bottom of the very cliff he used to stand upon, with a very miffed Corhyn not terribly far away. This was when I realized that bastard pushed him!
Obviously like most things in this game it's open to interpretation, but I believe Corhyn pushed the goldmask off the cliff like a coward!
Anonymous
AnonymousIt's probably obvious but the reason Goldmask doesn't use verbal language is because with the amount of knowledge and processing going on in his brain he can't make any distractions. When you "interact" with Goldmask you're probably just looking at the guy, and when you tell him that Marika is Radagon it'd be like he just received new information, with little regard as to what it came from, and that its just there now. If I had to guess, the only time he's doing otherwise is when he's walking to different areas, but considering where he ends up, I doubt anyone tries to get in his way, being famous and all, so even that doesn't take too much out of his calculations.

AnonymousI have like three neurons so someone please explain to me whether or not Goldmask's ending is a good thing. One of the main things that people argue is that all it'll do is stagnate the world by putting everything under the Greater Will, but I always assumed that the Greater Will itself wasn't a being, but a presence of order itself. True order, is motionless, but is that a bad thing? The term itself just means arranged, and when applied in the sense of Goldmask's ending, it just means that everything will go correctly.

Anonymousremember the sun from teletubbies? You won't believe what they look like now:

Anonymousthe voice actor of Horace from DS3? which is mute? oh, of course I can remember his voice acting, duh!

Anonymous“Lord of the Old Order, let us go together”. That means the Age of Order ending is the canonical one. Goldmask won.

AnonymousTo be honest I didn't know what to do with the guy the first time. Turns out I had completely overlooked Corhyn while getting the map. Came back after beating Malenia and saw him by chance. Found them in Leyndell pretty easily, and figured out what to do from there. I still don't see what everyone else does in this guy but at least I have my T-Pose gesture. Found them in the Mountains and basically told Coryhn to deal with it and left. So when HE stands around in half-naked, pondering mysteriously in public, he gets praised by thousands, but when *I* do it-

AnonymousGIVE THIS MAN AN OSCAR! Incredible performance. The way he just points like that; it's a delight. It feels like I'm just a side character in this sick and twisted world of Goldmask. What's his next move going to be? Will he points downwards at some point in his career?

Anonymous
AnonymousI wonder if he's meant to be something like "The Creation Of Adam", ever reaching towards divinity

AnonymousHow does he die? Does Corhyn push him off the cliff? But he still dies even if the Tonic of Forgetfulness is offered to Corhyn, and he remains at the Mountaintop of the Giants?

Anonymous
AnonymousI think if you listen closely when you speak to him at Leyndell, you can actually hear him grunting, almost like in frustration. And then, when you reveal the lore twist - when you give him the missing piece of the puzzle - you can hear a really quiet gasp of surprise. Again, not sure if it's true or I just imagined it, but if so, that's a cool detail. Rather than just a living calculator, it reminds that he's human, who can get stumped or taken off-guard.

AnonymousI messed up :(

AnonymousSuch a simultaneously hilarious and awesome character. Just a guy who climbs up to the highest locations he can in almost no clothes to gesture his arms & fingers to communicate with god. Amazing how a man can say absolutely nothing the entire game and still be such an intriguing and memorable character.

I think the DLC shows us that Goldmask's theory was correct; not directly, but just by example, thanks to Miquella and his actions.
The first thing that I saw people say a while ago was that his ending "removes everyone's free will" which.. given that we've seen what that actually looks like in-universe, it's safe to say that nothing points to that.
Second, Goldmask is definitely right about the gods; Miquella starts off as the kindest most idealistic person but seemingly "has" to give away all his emotions (or at least, he thinks so) to ascend to godhood; his ideal is still there, to "make the world a gentler place", but his method of doing so is now just to brainwash everybody; his compassion is gone, no matter his ideals.
The lesson here is that, no matter if you're a god motivated by pure vengeance (Marika) or pure kindness (Miquella), they all go down the same route eventually; tyranny. The gods are the fly in the ointment.

AnonymousGoldmask has the best ending in the game, bar none. Being able to save a world that you yourself live in feels like a superhero ending that Fromsoft has never done before, considering that they are known for sad, depressing endings. Ranni's ending is the elden ring equivalant of just, "f*ck it, let's just give up and go to outer space!" Dislikes are gonna be from Ranni simps. Watch...

Anonymous20 playtrough or so.. never meet nor seen him what do i wrong???

AnonymousGoldmask's understanding of the world comes from observations, heck he might be the only one talking to the greater will

AnonymousSince Metyr lost contact with the Greater Will, Goldmask likely isn't communicating with it either. Just like Fia and Dung Eater, he's inserting his own ideology into the Elden Ring. Whether you agree with it or not is up to you, but there isn't much to go on either way.

Anonymous"To believe in an ideal, is to be willing to betray it. It is something no Sith or Jedi has ever truly learned."

AnonymousSomething is just very farcical to me about blindly believing in a man who you only see wave his hands around.

AnonymousSaw some confusion regarding those who live in dead and Goldmask from redditors, and wanted to clarify:
TWLID are mindless skeletons that assault the living, your first meeting with D in Limgrave introduces you to this, however, the problem is that Marika is the one responsible for this, due to how she buried Godwyn, that and the shattering per se, killing TWLID is a solution, to diminish victims, but not a transcendental solution, as the very core of the Golden Order is that Marika is the one true God, and she’s the one who brought this.
So that doesn’t make Fia and Goldmask aligned, far from it, after all, they are different endings for a reason.
Fia, her character arc is her attachment to the past, and trying to mend it, giving Godwyn (the greatest of the DemiGods) new “life”, but the cruel joke is that Godwyn is long lost, and at best, it would be a puppet wearing his skin, in a sense, it is the most anti Buddhist ending of all, showing an attachment to life bordering on the comical, since TWLID are neither alive, nor sentient.
AnonymousBro why do I need to respec for one stupid spell I will never use outside this silly quest. Daft. Larval Tears don't grow on trees ya know

AnonymousDon't panic if you accidentally attack him, he comes right back when you reload. At least, this was my experience.

Anonymous
AnonymousSo, his ending is one where you repair the Golden Order, fixing the issues that caused it to become twisted and corrupted. Honestly, no other ending can possibly give as much catharsis and satisfaction as this one. It's essentially redeeming what was once fallen, fixing what was once broken. Its a very optimistic, "dark to light" journey, and it's popularity is no surprise.
In contrast, Age of Stars might be revolutionary and look cool, but for me, it's a very depressing and discouraging ending. Because it inherently tosses out any possibility of even redemption or revival, forget enhancement of that which was once great, discarding it completely as irredeemable and ultimately worse than worthless. This premise has to be assumed, else there's no rational justification for uprooting an entire civilization. We know of course from people like Rogier, Kenneth and Goldmask, and observed directly from actions of people like Godwyn that this premise is false.
Stories of redemption, of revival are timeless. There is enormous value in improving existing systems and fixing broken things. Isn't that how humanity has progressed for millennia?
Literally gives you the best ending without elaborating further.

AnonymousEndless plays in eldenring alrdy and never!!!! Absolutly never meet him!? Ive platet the game was in all corners but ive never seen that dude

AnonymousHad a weird bug. Did the statue, told goldmask, and then talked to corwyn (got the immutable shield from him). Then they disappeared and never made it to the bridge in Mountaintops (yes, I checked both bridges).

Anonymous
AnonymousI had a dream he started talking and it was the most soul touching voice and words that reached past comprehension, like the voice of God.

For those looking to complete his questline, DO NOT progress to Farum Azula before progressing the questline enough for them to show up in the mountaintops. If you do so without at least initiating their quest, Corhyn will inexplicably die and Gold Mask will disappear.

AnonymousI'm kinda of the opinion that the characters in Elden Ring are a lot weaker than the ones in previous Fromsoft Ames (to be honest, I feel like Fromsoft hasn't really nailed it with the NPC's like they did in Dark Souls since that game, with a few notable exceptions like Luciatiel from Dark Souls 2 and Gerhman in Bloodborne among others), however Goldmask is undeniably one of the coolest NPCs they've ever done.
He has a telepathic argument with god about the fundamentals of the universe, and WINS.
It's a shame he just kind of dies at the end, if they had made it so Corhyn killed him it might've made more sense but he dies regardless of whether Corhyn is still alive, which is a shame. Bit of a missed opportunity.
AnonymousAllow me to take a moment and express the sheer awe and wonder that Goldmask fills me up with whenever I am in his presence. Everytime I hear the name "Goldmask". the epitome of significance, charm, and charisma in the Lands Between. Who wouldn't be absolutely riveted by the words of wisdom this mighty figure bestows upon us. We should abandon our destiny of Elden Lord and instead worship this saint in a realm beyond. Ordinary mortals waste their time pondering the mysteries of the universe or striving for meaningful accomplishments. Goldmask is out there sipping fine wine from a Gold plated chalice while pointing at a ****ING tree. What could be of more importance than a man whose most defining characteristic is their choice of facial accessory.

AnonymousThis NPC has no dialogue other than "..."
Grossly understates how significant this actually is.
AnonymousI'm convicted the Age of Order ending is in fact the true ending because completing Goldmask's questline without a guide is next to impossible due to how vague and obscure the steps are compared to the others. Like the devs almost didn't want us to find it.
Finding Goldmask each time has to happen by pure accident as you are not given any indication as to where he is during any stage of the questline. Even getting past the Capital stage requires you to find some random statue (that you also have to find by accident) and know to use a specific high-requirement spell at it (that you ALSO have to find by accident...) with zero direction save for a single vague af hint that the overwhelming majority of first-time players are not going to figure out.
And once you do figure all that out you better hope you have a whopping 37 intelligence to even use the spell, otherwise you're gonna be wasting a couple Larval Tears which are precious and very hard to come by.
For comparison:
Ranni's quest requires a lot more legwork sure but your hand is basically held by all the different NPC's throughout the entire thing.
Fia's quest is also obscure at points but overlaps w/ Ranni's and Rogier's so you have some direction.
Dung-eater's is straight-forward in concept though finding the seedbed curses also happens by chance, and requires you to find the Haligtree which requires some legwork.
Chaos Lord ending is a bit vague but can be achieved pretty quickly since Shabriri gives you the rough location and you just squirrel around underground until you find the Fingers
Given Goldmask's ending is the closest thing we get to a "happy" ending in ER guess it makes sense for it to be the most difficult to get.

AnonymousDoing the math, astrologer comes out ahead assuming your only weapon is going to be cipher pata and just gold mask armor. You’ll have better mind/end and casting speed too if you pick astrologer over prophet. And the shield you start with as astrologer is even more fitting for the build and is difficult to farm late game.

AnonymousOne of the few NPCs who has an ending that doesn't involve screwing people over. Dung eater wants equality for the omens, but also turns everyone into omens in the process. Fia wants equality for the undead, but offs D and may-or-may-not have gotten Rogier killed. Ranni wants to separate the world from the influence of outer gods, but killed Godwyn, herself, and her most loyal followers. Goldmask? He wants to fix the golden order, simple as. The only casualty in his plan is Marika/Radagon, which we were going to go kill anyway. Unfortunately beta cuck Coryhn kills him after he realizes what his plan is.

Anonymoushas anyone else noticed Goldmask being already dead at his first location on the bridge? does anyone know how to keep this from happening? for context, in both NG and NG+1 (all i've done) i started Ranni's questline and swore to her before getting to the Altus Plateau, does anyone know if this triggers Goldmask to die?

AnonymousLocal Morrowind cosplayer communicates with God, solves all of society's problems with math

AnonymousI didn't see information on this so I figured I'd add it. If you use, "Law Of Regression" on the statue in Leyndell, Royal Capital it reveals a secret. When Goldmask is at the colosseum in Leyndell you can tell him of this secret. In return he gives you the gesture, "Golden Order Totality." You can then talk to Scribe Corhyn who will sell you the incantation, "Immutable Shield."

I reach a point in the game where Corhyn is basically gone (I got his bell bearing and robe) and Goldmask is no where to be found despite it shows his location on the map.

In my opinion the best ending. Can’t undo the past but we must persist and prosper
