Sleep | Elden Ring Wiki

From Elden Ring Wiki

Sleep is a Status Effect in Elden Ring. Status Effects are various buffs or ailments that apply either a beneficial or detrimental effect to the target. Status Effects can be applied on both enemies and players alike. Status Effects are triggered after a buildup meter is filled by repeated application of attacks that cause the effect. Both players and enemies can have varying resistances to a given Status Effect.

Elden Ring Sleep Guide

Sleep is a status effect that builds up through repeated application of the effect. Sleep is inflicted via various means including Weapons, Skills, and Consumables. Once the sleep meter is filled, the effect is triggered and the target is put to sleep, rendering them vulnerable to a Critical Attack.

Eternal Sleep is a stronger variant added with the Shadow of the Erdtree. Once the sleep meter is filled, the effect is triggered, and the target is put into an everlasting sleep and won't awaken when attacked. Bosses will wake up after an extended period of time. Does not apply any bonus to enemies that are staggered by sleep, and the type of sleep applied depends on which filled the buildup meter to completion.

Sleep Effects in Elden Ring

The Sleep effect puts a target to sleep, rendering them unable to move or attack. The Sleep status is useful for avoiding difficult encounters or putting enemies in a vulnerable state and allowing for a Critical Attack which deals Critical Damage.

  • In PvE, triggering Sleep may have one of 2 effects:
    • Enemy falls asleep until they are hit for max 60 seconds. They are immobile in this state and can be riposted.
    • In mid-animation of falling asleep they shake their head and return to combat.
  • In PvE, triggering Eternal Sleep may have one of 3 effects:
    • Enemy falls asleep permanently and will not wake even when attacked as opposed to the regular variant of sleep. Critical Attacks are unavailable unlike the regular variant of sleep.
    • Vulnerable Boss falls asleep and will not wake when attacked for roughly 5 seconds, then the effectregresses into common Sleep.
    • In mid-animation of falling asleep they shake their head and return to combat.
  • In PVP, triggering either Sleep has the effect:
    • Players inflicted with sleep by other players are stunned for roughly 1 second.
    • Sleep drains player's FP by (10% Max FP) + 30.
    • Eternal Sleep drains player's FP by (15% Max FP) + 50.
  • The Sleep effect can be mitigated by raising your Focus. Focus can be improved by adding points into Mind
  • Proccing sleep even on oneself activates the bonus of the St. Trina's Smile talisman.
  • Other players cannot be riposted when put to sleep, but it does give enough time to get in a charged R2 in most cases.

Elden Ring Sleep Effect on Enemies

This section lists information pertaining to the Sleep effect and its relation to Enemies and Bosses.

Enemies that cause Sleep

The following Enemies, NPC, Invaders and Bosses can inflict the Sleep effect on players:

Sleep Vulnerable

The following Enemies, NPC, Invaders and Bosses are weak to the Sleep effect. Weakness indicates a target has a much lower threshold for the effect, requiring fewer applications to fill the buildup meter and trigger the effect. They also fall into a sleep animation once triggered.

Sleep Resistant

The following Enemies, NPC, Invaders and Bosses are resistant to the Sleep effect. Resistance indicates a target has a much higher threshold for the effect, requiring many more applications to fill the buildup meter and finally trigger the effect.

Note: In case of Sleep, it also means that filling the Sleep bar only staggers the enemy briefly, even if it is not difficult to apply.

Elden Ring Sleep Notes & Tips

  • Bug: Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon is not immune to sleep in her 1st phase but has very high resistance towards it. However, it seems that triggering the Sleep has a visual effect, but no gameplay effect (stagger including)
  • Wildlife creatures like Owl or Deer have unique sleep animations.
  • Most of the enemies that are greatly impacted by Sleep are not very resistant to it, making it a beneficial status even for non-Arcane builds.
  • In Japanese, the character combination used to describes this effect is literally:
    • "the place, and people, that are safe enough to let one's eyes droop"
  • Also, the enunciation for the first character 睡「sui」is also a homonym for water 水「sui」
