Anonymousshell shards is such a weird additional gate for people who want to play with tools, I think a good change would be to make shard cost lower/make enemies drop more shards/more shards from shard bundles, and make the architect crest passive not consume shards so people who need them can play with them more I know architect is already strong, but this is really just a quality of life change. So in late game if you have the silk you can even change to architect to recharge your tools if you ran out of shards.

AnonymousIf you're good at the game, you're likely not relying on tools that much and not dying that frequently to ever run out of shell shards.
If you're struggling with the game, you will rely heavily on tools, and run out of shards during hard bosses. Meaning that you either have to stop the boss to go farm or continue on with a less powerful kit.
I don't really understand the thought behind the mechanic. We've had these types of resource farming gates in games before like Bloodborne and most agree that it's an unforgiving mechanic for struggling players, while good players can just ignore it entirely. If a mechanic's only purpose is to gate the players that are already struggling, I see that as a failure in game design which should be corrected.
If you want an easy Shard farm (though it may take a little while), If you head out of the Bellway in Far fields and then fall all the way down to the bottom to the small lava pit, there's a wall on the right side which gives infinite shards when hitting it. There's a whole bunch of these walls all over the map, 3 that I immediately know in Far Fields, but this is the easiest/fastest one to reach imo. Using the Architect crest also seems to yield the most per attack, I think this is because it hits multiple times in a single attack, so pop on some music and start drilling!
After a little while, it may seem like it has stopped, but it will start giving shards again after a few more hits.
