Tools in Hollow Knight Silksong are special items which grant offensive and defensive effects that Hornet can use both in and out of combat. Tools are items that give Hornet both offensive and defensive abilities. They replace the Charm system from the first game, acting as the core of Silksong’s customization. Instead of equipping multiple charms, Hornet uses a Crest that determines how many Tools she can slot in, what type of slots are available, and how her basic combat style changes. This makes Tools not just optional enhancements, but essential parts of both combat and exploration.
Hollow Knight Silksong Tools Guide
Each Tool in Silksong changes how you approach encounters and how you explore the world. Some provide reliable ways to deal damage from a distance or control groups of enemies, while others reinforce Hornet’s defenses or grant resistances to hazards. Since they are linked to Crests, equipping different loadouts can completely change Hornet’s playstyle, from faster and more aggressive combat to safer, defensive exploration. By experimenting with Tools and Crests, players can tailor Hornet’s abilities to suit their preferred strategy and adapt to the challenges of each region.
Hollow Knight Silksong Crests and Tools System
In Hollow Knight Silksong, the familiar Charm system from the first game has been replaced by a new framework built around Crests and Tools. This system expands Hornet’s active and passive abilities, giving you more ways to customize her playstyle through careful equipment choices. Crests can be swapped at Benches, much like Charms in the original game, and each Crest also changes Hornet’s HUD to reflect which one is equipped.

Hornet can only equip one Crest at a time, but each Crest defines several key aspects of gameplay. These include the number and color of Tool slots available, a unique Weaver Skill, Hornet’s basic attack animations, as well as her dash and pogo angles.

AnonymousIf you have enough spool fragments, then equip spool extender, then equip reserve bind, you can heal three times, the most amount of heals you can get are 6, using witch crest, equipping spool extender, reserve bind, and multi binder, 3X2=6, so you can heal six times and heal 24 masks, which is actually insane yall

AnonymousIn my opinion, the magnetite dice is the best yellow tool, the injector band or long claw best blue tool (also can be quick sling), and conchcutter or curvesickle best red tools, but Its only my opinion, others are also good.

AnonymousIn my opinion, the Hollow Knight's charm and notch system was better. this is simply because it was easy to understand and use and I'm not used to the new system. I give it 10-20 hours of more playtime before I can memorize all the tool's abilities. After all, this isnt Hollo Knight(well technically) this is Silksong

AnonymousLots of people claiming yellow items are useless, which they obviously aren't. Not every item is supposed to aid in combat, and by locking them into categories it's encouraged to considder all aspects of the game when loading a crest, once your weapon tools and modifiers are done the game holds off slots to let you engage with exploration tools. I think the system is a brilliant development from the notch and charm system, that uses crests and active combat tools to balance the basic attack, putting quick slash with the smallest weapon, and adding free boons to some of the less powerful but fun options, and then making the active tools such that you can compliment your basic attack, but with limited uses, and then splitting passive tools into combat and exploration so that you can engage with both in your build without holding either back. And you can even load crests so you can swap between presets, which was something people wished for in hollow knight, now integrated as a core feature.
Silksong tools are awesome, and the crest system is a cool and clever way of managing them.

AnonymousThe yellow tools are underrated. The compass, the magnetic necklace, the ascendant grip, the anklets, the dice, the barbed bracelet all have great uses

AnonymousIt's actually hilarious how useless the Yellow Tools are.

Anonymous
AnonymousOf course they made the most useful Yellow tool by a mile a Steel Soul exclusive. Goddamn it.

Anonymous
AnonymousThere are a total of 57 tools but some of them are either different versions ( silkshot, still counts as one ) or upgrades

AnonymousRosary Cannon is missing on wikis btw, that is the tool you want.

AnonymousAll these doodads and baffles. You only need your needle and healing. A game way overdone

Anonymoussomeone needs to add the rosary cannon to the red tool section

BTW, there's no clear distinction between Blue and Yellow tools as to what exactly they do, as the Blue tools Pollip Pouch, Quick Sling, Volt Filament, Snitch Pick, Longclaw, Whispfire Lantern, Pin Badge and Egg of Flealia are all undoubtly offensive items, not defensive ones. What can be said, however, is that both Blue and Yellow tools differ completely from Red tools due to being passive rather than active. Also, without exception, all non-combat tools are Yellow, and Blue tools must all have something to do with combat.

AnonymousDoes anyone know how to use the volt filament on the hardened outcrop of voltridian? or how to break it?

AnonymousI'm seeing multiple unique silkshots, but have only found one. Is this a branching upgrade? Are there others?

Anonymous
Anonymousah yes my favourite tools: missing, missing, missing, and... pimpillo? Ono my bad i meant "404 error page not found".
