Throughout the starting biomes in Saros, players will come across purple floating machines that can’t be interacted with or shot. At a glance, any player returning from Returnal will recognize these as grapple points that will allow Arjun to cross large distances and reach previously inaccessible areas. However, unlocking them is where players might get confused, and this is where the Saros guide below helps with details on the steps needed to unlock them.
Saros: How to Get Past Yellow Barriers
Here’s how players can open the yellow barriers in Saros and get the items or collectibles behind them.
How to Unlock Grapple in Saros
The straightforward answer to unlocking the Grapple is to play through the story, as it will unlock automatically. For the exact location, you will have to complete the second biome, Ancient Depths. After defeating Prophet and arriving at this biome, players will soon be tasked with opening a large vault in the middle of the room, but doing so requires exploring the doors on either side of the vault and reaching the terminals.
There are a bunch of containers, some of which are locked, scattered across the main and side rooms that you should check to get higher proficiency weapons and artifacts. With a proper loadout and both terminals activated, you will open the main vault door and can then face the boss of the second biome, Bastion.
The shotgun that unlocks in this biome might not be the best choice, since you will need to keep your distance throughout the fight. There are also Jump Network Pads all around the arena to help avoid the yellow projectile ring attacks the boss throws at you. Once you defeat the boss, continue forward and watch the cutscene, after which you can proceed to the third biome, Shattered Descent.
In this biome, simply follow the main story objective, and you will eventually have to return to the Passage, where a cutscene will initiate when trying to fix the item you brought back from the camp. Once your objective is to go back to Shattered Descent, use Primary to fast travel through the World Dial feature. When you arrive, interacting with the terminal ahead will unlock the Grapple ability.
To use the Grapple, press Triangle on your controller when the prompt appears on a grapple point, indicating that you are within range. This opens up paths to several audio and text logs in the area and is also required to progress further into the biome and explore more of what Saros’s story has to offer.
