Saros is Housemarque’s latest game, adopting the gameplay style of Returnal with a new world, story, and a large cast of characters. This third-person roguelite shooter introduces new mechanics, weapons, and several biomes that players can spend time exploring from one corner to the other.
Though the number of biomes and bosses might make one assume it is longer than Returnal, that is not the case, as the main story takes around 10 to 15 hours. In the guide below, we’ll go over how long players can expect it to take to reach 100% completion, as well as provide more information on the biomes in Saros.
Saros Review
Housemarque follows up Returnal with PS5 exclusive Saros, another wildly entertaining and action-packed third-person shooter.
How Long is Saros?
Main Story 15 – 18 Hours:
The main story of Saros follows a linear path where the game directs you to visit a specific biome and complete it to make further progress and unlock new objectives. Unlike Returnal, there are multiple instances where the game makes you return to the Passage, which acts as the main hub where you can upgrade your suit and use Primary to fast travel to different biomes.
Difficulty: There is no option in Saros to change the difficulty from one tier to another. However, this does not mean the game can’t be made easier or more challenging. First, because of upgrades from the Armor Matrix, players can get permanent stat and attribute upgrades, as well as other benefits like starting a run with an additional Carcosan Key, increasing the chance of Aether dropping, or even gaining a Second Chance.
The main thing in Saros that completely changes the gameplay is the Carcosan Modifiers, and enabling the Trials can make the game more challenging, which in turn can increase the game length since every biome will take more time to complete. On the other hand, Protection modifiers make the game easier, whereby you increase your damage, the rate of Proficiency, and more.
100% Completion = 25 – 30 Hours At Least:
100% completion depends more on the player than the game. If you are aiming for the Platinum, then you do not have to worry too much about the collectibles. There are over 150 collectibles in the game, including audio logs, text logs, and holologs.
As the environments are largely randomized, and you can get a few possible structures, finding collectibles depends more on coming across them than searching for them in specific locations. Some collectibles are restricted to certain side paths or hidden behind yellow barriers, but you can always get these in a different run once you unlock the ability to access them.
The Platinum for the game requires finding and completing all the Nightmare Strands at least once, which is a fairly easy task, along with other challenges like defeating enemies with a certain weapon in a specific way or completing a biome without taking damage.
Despite their trophy descriptions, none of these are difficult to obtain, and once you have completed the game, you can track them down one by one and should be able to get the Platinum, as well as all the collectibles, within 30 hours. If you have Trial Modifiers activated, then you can expect another 5 to 10 hours.
How Many Biomes Are in Saros?
Players interested in whether the game has more biomes than Returnal will be excited to learn that there are 8 biomes. However, because of the game’s short length, none of the biomes are particularly large, and you should be able to complete a biome in around 30 minutes. This number goes down as you get more upgrades, and the biomes will feel even shorter. Here are the names of all the biomes you’ll explore in Carcosa:
- Shattered Rise
- Ancient Depths
- Shattered Descent
- Blighted Marsh
- Desecrated Fortress
- Acolyte's Haven
- Cathedral
- Yellow Shore
