Biomes in Saros are large worlds filled with hostiles and areas to explore. Housemarque’s previous game, Returnal, had six biomes, and you will be excited to hear that there are two more this time around. Even though the biomes themselves are comparable in length and many players will complete cycles quickly, the beauty and amazing design of each biome is still there. The guide below offers information on all the biomes in Saros and how many collectibles each one holds.

All Biomes in Saros

The Passage

The Passage is technically not one of the biomes in the game, but it acts as the main hub you return to after every successful or failed run. Inside the Passage, you will find NPCs from Echelon IV to talk to. Aside from the NPCs, you can also find the Banyan Tree above, which is linked to story segments needed for the Epilogue and Primary, where you can upgrade Attributes, unlock skills, check modifiers, and fast travel to any biome.

Shattered Rise

  • Boss: Prophet
  • Halcyon: 8
  • Audio Logs: 17
  • Text Logs: 3

The first proper biome in the game, Shattered Rise, has mountainous regions and rocky structures. This is where players will learn the basic mechanics of the game and get used to the starting weapons and how Artifacts work. Shattered Rise is also where you will be introduced to the Eclipse system and how it affects the biomes in Carcosa. As you progress through the various rooms, you will come across a gate that needs to be opened using a device, behind which lies the first Overlord, Prophet.

Ancient Depths

  • Boss: Bastion
  • Halcyon: 12
  • Audio Logs: 14
  • Text Logs: 3

After defeating the first boss and unlocking the ability to fast travel, players will be able to explore Ancient Depths. This biome has tunnels and caverns with mechanisms that act as rising platforms. It is also where Arjun unlocks the ability to access Jump Network Pads and jump higher than before in certain spots. This opens up many previously inaccessible areas and makes exploration even better. As you reach the main chamber of this biome, the Vault, you will have to head down the two main paths on each side of the Vault door, one of which can only be accessed while the Eclipse is active.

Shattered Descent

  • Boss: Rhabdom
  • Halcyon: 12
  • Audio Logs: 14
  • Text Logs: 6

This biome, once home to the Echelon III personnel, acts as a gateway to multiple biomes once you unlock the means of getting there. The world has gaps that can make you fall to your death, but that is where the newly unlocked Grapple system helps with exploring more of the biome. Shattered Descent is easily the shortest biome in the game and has the only boss in the game with a single health bar.

Blighted Marsh

  • Boss: Legion
  • Halcyon: 20
  • Audio Logs: 10
  • Text Logs: 1

The swamp of Saros is filled with pollution and traps that explode when you get close to them. Blighted Marsh consists of poisoned waterways that constantly erupt, dealing damage to players nearby and keeping them on their toes. Upon reaching the end of the biome, an elevator can be found that takes you to the boss, Legion. However, accessing the elevator requires restoring power to the terminals, which can be done by exploring both paths on either side of them.

  • Boss: Architect
  • Halcyon: 25
  • Audio Logs: 11
  • Text Logs:1

The once beautiful citadel is now left in ruins after a power struggle that led to destruction on a large scale. Throughout the Desecrated Fortress, players will find falling debris and Honorarium Sigils that can be used to access the Sealed Chamber. Exploring more of the biome unlocks the Eclipse Threads ability, which leads to the top of the city where the Architect resides.

Acolyte's Haven

  • Boss: Shepherd
  • Halcyon: 35
  • Audio Logs: 9
  • Text Logs: 1

A biome accessible through Blighted Marsh, Acolyte’s Haven is a dock area filled with floating platforms and grapple points that can only be used once Arjun shoots them. Home to one of the more cinematic and challenging boss fights in the game, Shepherd, players must first activate the beacon and then make their way to the Wharf, where the boss fight commences.

Cathedral

  • Boss: Priestess
  • Halcyon: 50
  • Audio Logs: 13
  • Text Logs: 5

The Cathedral acts as a temple where all of the masters originally lived. The structure of the biome has its own gravity and dimensions, allowing Arjun to reverse the alignment and stand on the roof after activating a certain mechanism. The stairs to this biome’s boss arena are endless, and they can only be reached by exploring the two side paths and making the bell fall, which also opens up a secret optional area.

Yellow Shore

  • Boss: King
  • Halcyon: -
  • Audio Logs: 14
  • Text Logs: 1

The final biome in the game and the one you must explore to complete the third Act. This marks the end of Arjun’s journey and is a biome where he must prove himself worthy of facing the King at the shore. The Yellow Shore has quite a few Halcyon that can drop from Alpha hostiles, be found inside containers, or lie on the ground, but since there is no tracker for this biome, the number of Halcyon available is unknown. It is also in this biome where players gain access to the Blazing Strike ability and prepare to witness the ending of the game.

It is important to note that because all of the biomes in the game have a large number of collectibles and secrets to discover, despite the runs being short, it can take quite some time to fully 100% a world. In addition to this, as you explore more of each biome and keep playing through them, more information about the lore of these worlds is revealed in the Databank. There, you can read and learn more about the world of Carcosa.
