Negations (or Absorptions)

The negation numbers are the % of your damage that gets blocked. For example, if a negation is 60, 40% of that damage by that type will go through and 60% will be negated. Bigger number = less damage. A negation of 100 means no damage goes through, and a negation of -100 mean the enemy takes 2x damage from that source. 0 means damage goes pretty much as is.

Resistances

The resistance numbers are the buildup amount to trigger it. For example, if a resistance is 100 you must deal 100 points of the given buildup to trigger it. Note that these go down over time, and increase each time the effect procs. The values after the "/"s indicate the increased resistances after each successive proc.

Metyr, Mother of Fingers Fight Strategy

The Best Tips for Metyr, Mother of Fingers:
Melee Users
Metyr, Mother of Fingers can be encountered in the Finger Ruins of Miyr, you may find her by entering the Cathedral of Manus Metyr and interacting with the throne. Follow the path to reach a bell to interact with that brings you to Metyr's arena. This boss deals Standard Damage and Magic Damage, she moves around quite slowly but will sometimes leap around to gain some distance.

Metyr has a few attacks she does with her head, one of which is Kowtower's Resentment, where she raises her head until it starts to glow and then she smashes it onto the ground and after a moment, the ground will explode, this attack can be indicated when she raises her head briefly, the attack indicators show 7 lines in a cone shape from her head before they explode. You will be able to stand in between those lines or perform dodge rolls to get next to her to attack her there before she comes up. Another head attack of hers is her Gaze. While at a distance, her head will briefly glow and then shoot out a laser that covers a large range in the arena and deals heavy damage, this can be indicated when there are glowing rings around her head briefly before she shoots out her laser. You can avoid this attack by perfectly timing your dodge forward to get closer to her to attack her while you can.

Metyr's arm attacks are pretty straightforward. The first attack is where she swings her arms one at a time in front of her, this can be indicated when she spreads her arms out before she attacks. This attack can be avoided by dodging backward when she spreads her arms out. The next attack is her Single Arm smashes. Metyr will lean towards one side with her head before she smacks down her arm, this can be indicated when she leans her head towards one side, it would take her a brief moment of leaning before she attacks. You can avoid this attack by dodging to either side so that you can attack her from there or dodge backward to avoid the attack all together.

One of the Arm attack Combo is her Arm Ground Smashes. This is where Metyr will raise up both her arms and repeatedly hashing down onto the ground, the string attack will begin with her smashing the ground quickly with each arm, and then she will clasp her arms together, pause for a brief moment, and then smash the ground twice. To dodge this attack, you want to roll twice, just before the first arm hits the ground. This will dodge the first 2 quick arm smashes, then, pause here as you wait for her to clasp her arms together, and then roll backward, and then roll forward for the last 2 attacks. NOTE: There's a variation of this attack where she will do a 3rd arm smash at the end if you attack too fast!

A few attacks that she uses with her body are her Body Smash, Spawning Leap, Jumping Smash, and Finger Spawn. Her Body Smash is when she brings her arms close to her as she lifts up her body holding it up briefly then slamming it back down onto the ground, this can be indicated when she holds her arms close to her as she goes up. You can easily avoid this attack by dodging to either side and then attacking her from the sides. Her Body Leap is where she will bring her arms to open up her chest made up of smaller fingers and leap over you as she releases smaller fingers onto you which deals damage to you as well, this can be indicated when she puts her hands to her chest and quickly leaps over you. When she leaps you can quickly dodge towards the sides to avoid the small fingers. Her Leaping Attack is when she slightly crouches down before leaping up and slamming back down several times and dealing heavy damage, this attack can be indicated when you see that she slightly crouches or when her legs bend. You can avoid this attack by getting as far from her as you can. Lastly, her Finger Spawn is when she will open up her chest to release three Lesser Fingercreepers to overwhelm you, it takes her a brief moment to summon them so when you see the Fingercreepers appear, you may get as far from her as possible to deal with them first before dealing with her.

Lastly, Metyr's tail attacks, these attacks deal massive damage and can be fatal if you're not careful. One of her tail attacks is her Levitating Spin, this is where her tail orb starts to glow purple and will levitate her in the air, later using the force of her tail orb to knock you down. It takes her a while to fully levitate up with her whole body not touching the ground so it gives you time to prepare to either run away or to perfectly time your dodge roll to avoid getting knocked down. Another attack of hers is her Levitating Spin, she will levitate much higher this time and begin to spin in the air in her position then launch herself at you. Just like with her previous attack, it takes her a while to levitate up and she spins for a while as well before launching herself at you, so it is recommended to get as far as you can so the range of her launch does not hit you. Once you defeat Metyr, you will be rewarded with 420,000 Runes and her Remembrance.

Magic and Ranged Users
Sorcery users can deal massive damage with Shard Spiral, especially if free-aiming the spell so it goes through its body. If you find the opening for it, Meteorite of Astel in melee range can kill the boss in mere seconds.

Incantation users can deal massive damage by casting Pest-Thread Spears in melee range. If you find the opening for it, Burn, O Flame can also deal massive damage. You may also use Ekzykes's Decay to inflict scarlet rot.

Metyr, Mother of Fingers Attacks & Counters

Attack Description Counter
Kowtower's Resentment Metyr raises her head as it glows, before smashing it into the ground, creating a pink curving trail in front of her, which creates a winding explosion after a delay. Unlock your camera and look for spots where the trail does not cover. Stand in those spots to avoid the attack.

Alternatively, you can get close then circle-strafe around her to get some hits in.
Kowtow Metyr winds her head around before abruptly slamming it into the ground. May follow up with Leaping Smash. Watch the head then dodge forward and attack. Be prepared for follow-ups.
Arm Swings Metyr slightly spreads her arms before swinging, one after the other in front of her. She may follow up with Ground Smashes When you see her spread her arms, you will need to dodge backward to avoid her swings.
Arm Ground Smashes Metyr raises her arms up and repeatedly smashing them down on the ground. She slams down her left and right hands, before clasping them together to smash down twice.
The follow-up smashes are much faster than the initial attack.
When Metyr raises her arms, you will need to quickly dodge backward and away as she will repeatedly smash down on the ground progressively getting faster and stronger.
Body Smash Metyr brings her arms close, lifting up her body, before smashing down onto the ground.

Another variant of this attack occurs at very close-range. Instead of rising up, she immediately attacks directly below her, dealing moderate damage.
You will need to perform a dodge roll to either side when you see her holding her body up to avoid receiving damage from this attack.
Spawning Leap Metyr will use her arms to open up her chest before leaping upwards and spraying fingers around her while she jumps up. When Metyr holds her hands to her chest, dodge forward into her to avoid both the area-of-effect and the leap.
Gaze When Metyr is at a distance, her head will briefly glow before shooting out a laser that deals moderate damage. She often uses this attack as a follow-up.

In phase two, she shoots three times, with a longer wind-up.
When you see Metyr's head glowing, time your dodge right to avoid the laser. You can dodge forward to get closer to her and attack.
Sweeping Gaze Metyr fires a laser off to her left side, sweeping it across and leaving a trailing explosion. Roll forward. Both the beam and the explosion have a hitbox.
Finger Spawn Metyr opens up her chest, spawning three Lesser Fingercreepers. Get far from her so you can take out the Fingercreepers before trying to focus on her. Use Skills or Spells that can attack multiple foes at once.

They are still very weak, but they can stun and leave you vulnerable to Metyr's other attacks.
Single Arm Smash Metyr leans to one side before smashing the ground with her arm. When Metyr has her head facing either side, it will show which side she will smash to. You will need to dodge backward to avoid getting smashed by her arm.
Leaping Smash Metyr crouches down slightlybefore leaping up to three times, smashing her body and head on the ground each time.

She may also begin this attack by crawling quickly towards her target and slamming her head down.
When you see Metyr jump, roll backward. If you get too close, the body will hit you. Afterwards, go and attack.
Finger Crawl Metyr crawls towards her taget with the fingers on her sides, attacking several times and dealing heavy damage. Avoid being on her sides. If you see her side fingers rise slightly, run away and jump if she gets too close.
Finger Shove Metyrturns to the side and shoves quickly with her side fingers. Can also be done without turning when you stand at her sides for too long. Can be rolled through, best solution is to either roll away or towards her front to avoid her following up with Finger Crawl.
Second Phase
Nova At around 50% HP, Metyr will begin charging up energy, releasing a small explosion close to her, and a much larger explosion a moment later. This initiates her Phase 2. Roll or gain a moderate amount of distance to avoid the first explosion. The second explosion has enormous range. Roll as soon as you see the light from the second explosion.
Pulsar During phase two, Metyr levitates and gathers energy, before emitting two large rotating lasers, fired diagonally. As the lasers hit the ground, they create a trailing explosion.

As the attack occurs, Metyr is surrounding by a vortex that damages and knocks back anything too close.
Consider bringing Bloodhound's Step, equipping Windy Crystal Tear, or consume two Uplifting Aromatics to negate most of the damage. Be sure to save enough FP for the Aromatics. There is a "relatively safe" zone between the laser and the AOE pulsing out of the boss.
Fleeting Microcosms During phase two, Metyr's microcosm between her tail fingers will begin glowing. Afterwards, several orbs will rise from the ground, each creating a small explosion many seconds later. Unlock your camera, watch your feet, and run away. Getting hit by an orb while it is spawning will do minor damage.
Levitating Spin During phase two, Metyr will levitate in the air while rapidly spinning, before launching her body towards her target. When Metyr starts to spin in place, either run as far away as possible or go under her and dodge.
If she is too far away for the attack to land, run in and get some attacks in.

Metyr, Mother of Fingers Notes & Other Trivia

Metyr, Mother of Fingers Lore

Remembrance of the Mother of Fingers

Remembrance of Metyr, the Mother of Fingers, hewn into the Scadutree.

The power of its namesake can be unlocked by the Finger Reader. Alternatively, it can be used to gain a great bounty of runes.

The mother of all Two Fingers and Fingercreepers was in turn a magnificently gleaming daughter of the Greater Will, and the first shooting star to fall upon the Lands Between.

Staff of the Great Beyond

Staff fashioned from the tail-fingers of Metyr, the Mother of Fingers, and the microcosm raised aloft over the crux they form. Catalyst for casting both sorceries and incantations.

The Mother received signs from the Greater Will from the beyond of the microcosm. Despite being broken and abandoned, she kept waiting for another message to come.

Fleeting Microcosm

A finger sorcery of Count Ymir, High Priest. One of the secret hallowed rites.

Conjures an image of a microcosm at a foe's feet that pulses with a single wave before disappearing in a burst. Charging enhances potency.

The broken and discarded are fully willing to cling to fleeting simulacra, earning them some modicum of sympathy.

Gazing Finger

The head of Metyr, the finger-mother, wielded as a weapon without modification.

From within the center of the fingerprint that wrinkles the creature's foremost protrusion, a tiny wart-like eye gazes vacantly into the beyond.

Cherishing Fingers

A finger sorcery of Count Ymir, aspiring mother of fingers.

Surrounds the caster with a mesh of hefty fingers that wards all manner of projectiles, whether magical or physical in nature, away from the caster. Charging enhances potency.

The dear fingers look after their mother, or perhaps that is merely what the mother wishes to believe.

Cerulean Seed Talisman +1

A cerulean-colored talisman patterned after an Erdtree seed. Greatly boosts HP restoration from the Flask of Cerulean Tears.

The Erdtree seed of this talisman was presumed to be an object of myth. This age-old artifact also depicts the Two Fingers, perhaps harkening back to the birth of the Erdtree.

Finger Mimic

Light-pink mushroom resembling a wizened finger. Material used for crafting items. Exceedingly rare to find.

Used to by those who wish to become fingers to induce hallucinations. They call these mushrooms the stillborn of the Two Fingers.

Fingerprint Nostrum

Bolus engraved with whorl-like lines. Craftable item.

Boosts mind, intelligence, faith, and arcane at the cost of gradual HP loss.

A secret medicine of those who attempt to turn their human bodies into fingers. Ingesting causes something to wriggle within.

Glinting Nail

Nailstone with shining fingerprints floating above. Craftable item.

Uses FP to fling a magic nail that crumbles during flight.

The lampreys that guard the finger ruins resemble fingers far more than they do humans, and so the finger-weavers imitated their sorcery.

Count Ymir, High Priest

Do you recall what I said? That Marika, and the fingers that guided her, were unsound from the start. Well, the truth lies deeper still. It is their mother who is damaged and unhinged. The fingers are but unripe children. Victims in their own right. We all need a mother, do we not? A new mother, a true mother, who will not give birth to further malady. May you join the glimmering stars above.
