Black Knight Garrew Combat information

Negations (or Absorptions)

The negation numbers are the % of your damage that gets blocked. For example, if a negation is 60, 40% of that damage by that type will go through and 60% will be negated. Bigger number = less damage. A negation of 100 means no damage goes through, and a negation of -100 mean the enemy takes 2x damage from that source. 0 means damage goes pretty much as is.

Resistances

The resistance numbers are the buildup amount to trigger it. For example, if a resistance is 100 you must deal 100 points of the given buildup to trigger it. Note that these go down over time and increase each time the effect procs. The values after the "/"s indicate the increased resistances after each successive proc.

Black Knight Garrew Fight Strategy

The Best Tips for Black Knight Garrew:
Melee Users
The Black Knight Garrew is a relatively easy boss to defeat if you're playing as a melee character. Its movements are extremely slow, making its attacks easy to predict and evade. The best strategy against this boss is to utilize your agility and land heavy attacks. When the Black Knight Garrew finishes an attack, and you successfully evade it, you will have a significant window to counter with your own attacks before it launches another offensive. Keep repeating this pattern by dodging, counterattacking, and retreating until its health drops significantly. Be particularly cautious of its strongest attack: a charged mace swing. This move can deal a substantial amount of damage if not evaded properly. Watch for the knight's mace glowing yellow, which signals the incoming charged attack, and be ready to roll back to avoid it. Most of Garrew's attacks involve swinging its mace and shield at you. By maintaining your agility, dodging its slow attacks, and timing your heavy counterattacks, you can steadily wear down the Black Knight Garrew and secure victory.
Magic and Ranged Users
Cast Rotten Breath when you first see Garrew. It may take two volleys for him to become afflicted. Sorcerers can use items such as Marika's Soreseal, Silver Tear Mask, Two Fingers Heirloom, and Outer God Heirloom to acquire the necessary stats for rot breath. Kite him and bring him in range of an aggressive and beefy spirit ash summon like Redmane Knight Ogha. When the boss catches aggro on your summon, cast your best damaging spells and abilities. Watch out for the frog tongue animation, as it comes it quickly and hits twice.

Black Knight Garrew Attacks & Counters

Attack Description Counter
Mace Swing Black Knight Garrew swings its mace toward you slowly. Dealing heavy damage upon impact. You can easily dodge this by rolling back once he starts waving his mace. You can also block it with your great shield.
Double Mace Pound Black Knight Garrew slams its mace twice downward which creates a small damage area. Can easily be dodged by rolling back before the two slams hit the ground.
Shield Bash When close, Black Knight Garrew slams his shield onto you making it a weapon. This can easily be dodged by rolling to the right just before he swings his shield.
Charged Mace Slam Black Knight Garrew charges its mace with power and slams it onto you. This can be evaded by rolling to either right or left once he leaps in the air.
Tongue Attack Black Knight Garrew brings his head back while glowing, then releases a long-range tongue attack which goes in the direction he is facing. This can be evaded by dodge rolling to either the right or left when you see Black Knight Garrew charging it up.

Black Knight Garrew Lore

Black Knight Commander Andreas

Ashen remains in which spirits yet dwell.
Use to summon the spirit of Andreas, Knight-Commander of the Black Knights.

The Black Knights were the primary force of Messmer's army. Their first leader was Andreas, a man endowed with great strength and command over the powers of the Crucible, and whose spirit in these ashes dwells.
Though he remained a devout follower of Messmer after his flight from the Erdtree, he would rebel after learning of his liege's serpentine nature. His righteous stand was rewarded with imprisonment in an underground tomb.

Black Knight Captain Huw

Ashen remains in which spirits yet dwell.
Use to summon the spirit of Huw, Knight-Captain of the Black Knights.

The Black Knights were the primary force of Messmer's army. Second to their first Knight-Commander was Huw, a man with agile command of both twinblade techniques and the powers of the Crucible, and whose spirit in these ashes dwells.
Though a champion of the divine beast hunt, he followed his father, Andreas, into rebellion against Messmer, and like his father, he too was imprisoned in an underground tomb.

Messmer mourned the loss of a brother-in-arms.

Black Knight Armor

Armor worn by the Black Knights, servants of Messmer the Impaler. Though the engraving above the heart is a Scadutree design, it is etched in gold. A small consolation to those forced to wage a war without grace or honor.

Black Knight Helm

Helm worn by the Black Knights, servants of Messmer the Impaler. Black iron ornamented with gold. A rotten odor stubbornly clings to it. Perhaps it arises from the tainted nature of the blood that splattered upon it. Or perhaps it is the wearer's own blackened soul, festering after endless slaughter.

Black Steel Greathammer

Weapon of the Black Knights, servants of Messmer the Impaler.Greathammer of black steel with decorative embellishments in gold. Blessed with an Erdtree incantation. Further holy imbuement will amplify the effect and greatly increase the armament's power. Guard Counters cause a burst of power.

Black Steel Greatshield

Weighty shields carried by the Black Knights, servants of Messmer the Impaler. Made of black steel with decorative embellishments in gold. Symbolic of their iron conviction in their crusade, the Black Knights will never yield. Nor will they ever doubt their purpose.
