Star Wars Zero Company Squad Composition
Four slots, 120 missions, and permanent death. This is what the game itself decides for you, what each kind of fight asks for, and the 32 missions whose enemies are fixed and therefore knowable in advance.
What the game decides before you do
You field four Operators on 115 of the 120 missions. Four of them cap you at three, which is the single biggest change to a composition the game ever makes and it is not announced on the mission screen: Buyer Beware (Dantooine), Stolen Goods (Kaller), Not Your Turf (Lothal), Deep Cover (Umbara).
A mission that names an Operator will not launch without them, so those names are a recruitment checklist as much as a squad rule - and a reason to keep them out of the infirmary.
| The game requires | Missions |
|---|---|
| Hawks | 23 |
| Cly | 2 |
| Kabb | 2 |
| Luco | 2 |
| Tel-Rea | 2 |
| Trick | 2 |
| Jae | 1 |
Some missions also hand you an Operator you do not spend a slot on. Those are listed with the fights below - and one of them is Anakin Skywalker, who fights alongside you on Bespin.
The four shapes a fight comes in
Sort the fixed fights by what they are made of and they fall into four groups. The rule is stated so you can apply it yourself: a Boss on the field makes it a Boss fight, twenty or more bodies makes it a Crowd, under ten makes it a Skirmish, and what is left is a standing fight. Across the 32 missions with a fixed roster: 9 boss fight, 9 crowd, 9 skirmish, 5 standing fight.
Boss fight
One unit carries most of the threat, and killing it is usually the objective. Everything that concentrates damage on a single target beats everything that spreads it, and the escorts exist to make you spend turns elsewhere. Check the Make-up column first: a boss with Support units behind it is two problems, because the Support keeps buffing the escorts while you focus the boss.
Crowd
Twenty or more bodies means most turns have more targets than you have shots, so an ability that hits several is worth more than one that hits harder. The threat figure matters less here than the body count: a crowd of B1s is 33 Combat Value each and still wins if you let it reach you.
Skirmish
Under ten bodies. Short fights, and the squad you bring matters less than not losing anyone -- these are where a run's casualties are avoidable. Permadeath applies here exactly as it does in a finale.
Standing fight
Ten to twenty bodies, no boss. These reward position over either extreme -- there are too few targets for area damage to pay for itself every turn and too many to focus one at a time. The melee count in the Make-up column is the number that decides it: enemies that close take the choice of range away from you.
Every fight whose enemies are fixed
These rosters come from the levels themselves: a spawner placed in the map names the group of units it will deploy, so this is what the mission fields rather than what its faction tag implies. The two are not the same - the hunt for Idra Farrar is tagged Coil and fields Pykes.
Threat is the sum of each unit's Combat Value, the weight the game uses to budget an encounter. A + means the figure is a floor. Highest Combat Value is the unit the game weights most heavily on the field, which is not always the one the objective names: the finale's is a Droideka, not Fathom.
Roster says how much of the fight is knowable. Exact means every spawner is hand-placed and this mission is the only one on its level. Map floor means the level is shared - every Crisis reuses the skirmish map it is set on - so the mission adds its own enemies on top of these. At least means some spawners roll at runtime.
The other 88 missions pick their roster at runtime from the region's faction and threat level. Nothing fixed can be said about what they field, so nothing is.

Every enemy you can be sent against
Class is the game's own classification, and it is the most useful column here: it tells you whether a unit closes to contact or holds range, and Support units are the ones that buff everything else on the field. Combat Value is the game's weighting of how much a unit is worth.
Health is left blank where the build publishes none: 28 of these units have a figure and 22 have none anywhere in the shipped data, so the column is short rather than filled in with something we worked out. A few are marked via another unit - those two share a character class in this build, which is one set of numbers under two names. Enemy Health and Time to Kill has the full tables and the shots each weapon class needs.

The same enemy in different clothes
The game gives many units the same character class under different names and outfits. This is worth knowing before you plan around a faction: learning to fight one row here teaches you the whole row.
