bluntstones in the comments whining about fp efficiency as they shoot 6 pebbles at every trash mob and get to the next grace with all their blue flasks full, shameful

      • Anonymous

45 Mind doesn’t care about “efficiency”, this is my primary slot spell. Very rarely do you ever need to hit things more than once with a Comet, and if you do, it’s worth using the extra FP. You have 11 other spell slots worth of sorceries to fix anything this spell doesn’t.

Is Carian Retaliation supposed to "parry" this, because when I used the shield version of Carian Retaliation, it made the swords appear, but it still did the full amount of damage

          • Anonymous

it has the power of a nuke and spammability of a glintstone shard. The best spell for when things must die right now

            • Anonymous

free aiming this in pvp and hitting someone by predicting where they'll roll will make you feel like a god

Just because I don't see it mentioned anywhere, in case anyone cares, this can now be cast at RL1 since the release of the DLC (but not as a summon/invader, only as a Host of Fingers or solo in your own world) using the following buffs: 10 Base INT + Marika's Soreseal (+5 INT) + Stargazer Heirloom (+5 INT) + Twinsage Glintstone Crown (+6 INT) + Oath of Vengeance AoW (+5 to all stats) + Godrick's Great Rune (+5 to all stats) + Intelligence Knotted Tear in Physick (+10 INT) + Fingerprint Nostrum (+6 to Mind, INT, FAI, ARC for 90 seconds at the cost of 3 HP/s) = 52 INT. You can also use Founding Rain of Stars with 52 Int, but consensus seems to be that's not a great spell. Other sorceries you can only access at RL1 by using this setup are Blades of Stone from Gaius' Remembrance (48 INT) and Crystal Torrent (47 INT). Obviously the Fingerprint Nostrums are a pain to get, but it is technically *possible*

Played Souls gamed using colossal weps. Wanna try int build and oh my god once you get decent flask charge and invest 80 int 50 focus you just spam this and everything just dies

Don't let its 'inefficiency' fool you. One-shotting enemies will always be better than risking missing follow up shots of your more efficient spell.

And when you can one shot 4 enemies with one well placed shot, all of a sudden the math changes.

Unless you are fighting Aware Enemy: Lord of the Input Read, this is your best bet.

Breaking news! Friendly academy duel between Hogwarts and Raya Lucaria ends in disaster!

Master Azur disqualified after casting this and accidetally oneshotting Severus Snape. Poor sod didn't level Vigor!

                      • Anonymous

On my 60 Int 20 mind build this is better than Cometshard, especially with Azur's crown and Godfrey talisman, despite higher cost casts, and its worth slotting it along with Cometshard. Why?

Because of oneshots. I am consistently oneshotting mooks with this, with cometshards it is 50/50. 1 comet that oneshots is better than 2 cometshards. Especially with FP on kill stuff.

Sure you can go up close and cast other spell or hit them with your sword, but ranged builds are ranged for a reason. I especially felt it in the DLC catacombs.

Oh, and it is spiky and cool. What's not to love? Input reading enemies dodge it sure, but you have night comet or spiral for that.

                        • Anonymous

Its hitbox is bigger than very comet type version, including night comet, to the point that you can aim at the ground and nearby enemies will take damage assuming they're not too far from impact site. This only signified further with charged version, not only bigger initial hitbox, there's another exploding aftermath which have huge radius. According to frame data, night comet also have this supposed exploding hitbox although it must be much smaller or false since my test results in contradiction. This is the reason why when you spam roll melee range against gideon comet spam, you consistently get hit once or twice.
Also, who tf wanna use pebble for the entire game lol? Go away, bluntstone.

                          • Anonymous

Can we get a simple scaling number? I don't want to have to keep adding up percentages from glintstone pebble

                            • Anonymous

Why is this far inferior to the Cometshard? This costs 7FP more, travels through targets similarly to Cometshard but only does 12% more damage. It should be doing about 45% more damage and actually be travelling further.

                              • Anonymous

This is the spell you want for boss fights if you're a spellcaster. Hits hard, decent range, quick casting.

                                • Anonymous

When you charge it, it does get a significantly larger hitbox that makes it easier to hit multiple targets.

                                  • Anonymous

I don't think this is worth it compared to cometshard. 40% fp cost increase for 15% dmg increase only, in the end you would use fp flasks much more, wasting time flasking that could be better used casting more spells. The range difference between both is very very small, cometshard imo is simply superior.

Let"s be 100% real. This with graven mass and godfreys does everything. Quick dps, up front charged nuke, quick react when surprised. Never felt safer in PvE. Combined with charged carian piercer for easy poise break. Stun lock glass cannons, mow down heavy armored tanks. Chefs kiss for a bread and butter spell

                                      • Anonymous

The projectile does not travel slightly farther than Glintstone Cometshard. If anything, it travels slightly less far.

Pretty good allrounder for a pure caster if you ask me, with a quick cast time and chain ability. It is the spell I have ready when I go somewhere where I'm not sure what to expect, or while farming. "Wasting" one Flask for e.g. a big Caria Manor Spider or an Omen is well worth it. Safe onehits for nasty trash like imps, bats, henchmen or rats, while the shard often used to leave like 10% life, requiring additional damage action. I think a 5 cast chain of these is faster and yields more damage than depleting the same amount of FP with Comet Azur, as that one somehow always loses at least half its damage somewhere (Maybe I'm just using it wrong) Even if one comet gets dodged, still feels like it has better DPS than Night Comet, maybe unless you have two staves of loss. True, it *had* me starve on FP once or twice in my (first) playthrough, but otoh I kill almost everything with spells. Being able to gun down things before they reach you does conserve healing flasks, so I guess in the end things come out even.

Honestly, comet is only useful if you have high mind. For a 52 int spell which is basically the soul spear of Elden ring, it isn't that useful to me. Either glintstone pebble for trash enemies or glintstone cometshard for harder enemies. It feels like chain casting comet with the other synergy spells is the best way to use comet. I really wish they didn't force intelligence build to commit so much to leveling int. It feels like this spell is for pure int builds to see the best benefits. This is just my experience, I'm not trying to invalidate this spell as useless. It is still a strong spell. I mainly played as a battlemage when using magic builds.

                                            • Anonymous

Comet is expensive but ultimately it's the payoff for investing into Mind and extra blue flasks in a full caster build. In the level 150 range you have to choose between things like 25 Faith for Golden Vow, maybe picking up some Strength or Dexterity for weapon requirements, stopping at 80 Intelligence or pushing to 99, going to 60 Vigor or stopping short. If you choose to push your Mind up a bit (I like 41 as a stopping point for my build as it lets me comfortably not overcap FP with a +12 flask), Comet is arguably the best option for a bread and butter.

Worth mentioning though that Night Comet is slightly cheaper and does basically identical damage assuming you have a Staff of Loss in your offhand for the 30% damage buff, and in NG+ or if dropped one you can run a Staff of Loss in both hands to do more damage with Night Comet (although this will do worse with other Sorceries due to Staff of Loss's lower Sorcery Scaling than Carian Regal Scepter or other top options). I *think* Comet has superior tracking though, and if you simply can't be assed to be swapping your weapons around all the time you really can't go wrong with Comet assuming you can pay the hefty FP cost.

What do you think getting hit with magic damage feels like? Fire is easy, lightning is easy, but what is the 4k damage from comet doing to actually hurt things?

Funny how all others fancy Sorceries and incantations can't really compare to the damage of a magic missle launcher

This thing made dozens of chainsaw glitchers block me in pvp. Always have it ready at the start of a duel.

It's not a spectacular spell but it is a little underrated; in PvE it's more efficient and reliable than Stars of Ruin I think. Unmentioned is that fully charged it gains a minor AOE on impact, which allows it to do pretty hefty damage to enemies close to one another if well-timed.

                                                      • Anonymous

                                                        1. charge before shooting , big comet for big damage.
                                                        2. spam shooting , more dps always the best.

(PvE) The thing about Comet is that, while it isn't FP efficient, it does have a relatively short casting time compared to other heavy-hitting spells, even if you charge it. It also chains, so you can keep firing if you have the stamina/FP to get away with it. It truly shines most in late game where you want to make sure you hit things fast and hard before they come anywhere close, and don't have the time or space for anything else. It works in boss fights, but you really need to watch your endurance and make sure it's actually hitting them and not wasting FP.

                                                          • Anonymous

Not bad, but its sound effects aren't nearly as satisfying as CSS in DS3. Hoping we get a proper Crystal Comet in the DLC, along with a White Dragon Breath equivalent.

                                                            • Anonymous

I hope we get a Crystal Soul Spear-esque upgrade to this in the DLC, perhaps a cold "Darkmoon Comet" to tie into the Carian Moon stuff (and get access to similar buff stacking to Night Comet). This thing just feels so boring as is, which would be enough reason as is not to use it even if it wasn't so thoroughly outclassed by Night Comet

comet is one of these spells that can be avoided by just walking sideways, with the removal of chain cast in patch 1.05 this spells is pretty much useless in 1v1, I really hope they eventually buff the projectile speed or adjust the speed cast so the first cast becomes as fast as the second one

                                                                          • Anonymous

If you avoid this spell for the sake of efficiency, you're just making battles last longer than they need to

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                              • Anonymous

Fantastic thing for invasions. Get a cheeky angle on coopers, charge one up and launch it. If they didn't level vigor, they will die in just one cast. It doesn't even need much buffs - just Graven-mass talisman and physic flask should suffice. Much better than Great Glinstone Shard.

                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                  • Anonymous

It's a pretty nuanced matter, picking your projectile:

                                                                                    Determine one of these things:

"Am I fighting a PvE target that will die in one hit from a stronger spell, but not a weaker, and won't dodge or block." If so, go with the least expensive 'stronger' spell necessary to one-shot, to clean the enemy in question up quickly. Good example targets would include dogs, miners, or any un-alert guard/soldier type enemies, that might otherwise become adds in an unfair fight.

"Am I instead fighting a target that will only die in multiple hits, and won't dodge enough that I'm missing casts regularly." If so, ask, "A.) Do I have time and space to fire attacks unpunished, or B.) Will I need to dodge fairly regular attacks?" if A, go with the more economic fp to damage ratio unless you are certain you will have an overabundance of flasks and plenty of opportunity to rest afterward, and if so proceed to B instead, if B, go for the highest damage per cast sustainable by your flasks.

                                                                                    Lastly, and this is important:

"Am I fighting a player, and C.) are they paying attention to what I'm doing, or D.) will there be distractions, drawing their attention away from my casting?"

If C.) You want the cheapest spell that can be spammed a lot, and which will reach their location, at the current moment, or you want to throw crystal darts. If D.)Feel free to cast the hardest hitting spell that can connect before the player can react.

Also, as a final note, remember for scenarios where you're invaded, that you can continuously 'threaten' to fire Loretta's Greatbow, and then roll to cancel, and not expend any FP whatsoever. Sometimes just the threat of being shot is enough to create an opening.

Have fun with your magical pew-pewing.

                                                                                    • Anonymous

This spell is so simply strong for high Int and Mind builds. No BS, just a quick, straight bullet that demolishes everything in its path. Insanely high DPS for bosses too, and is much more flexible unlike Comet Azur.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

people who aren’t using these upgrades to the pebble are fundamentally misunderstanding the sorcerer playstyle at the high levels. FP efficiency needs to be squared against the wasted utility of unused fp. If you die after a tough fight with most of your fp in reserve then you are better off sacrificing some efficiency for more firepower.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

The secret is to get a bit of faith to heal with spells, especially bestial vitality, it's very FP efficient.
Like that most of your flasks can be cerulean.
I also use a sword for mobs that are alone/weak.

                                                                                                - Comet has much, much shorter windup speed than Loretta's Greatbow (especially if charged), and can be cast repeatedly until your MP bar empties.
                                                                                                - Loretta's Greatbow has half the intellgence requirement compared to Comet, and has the most extreme maximum range of any sorcery.
                                                                                                — Courh the Explorer

Get Godfreys and the Ritual Sword and you can one shot almost all mobs with a fully charged Comet with a +8 Carian Regal Staff. The range and how AI works (most enemies will not aggro on ranged spell kills) means you can just spam this to kill trash mobs quickly. Can substitute with Loretta's Bow for greater range (slightly lower damage)

                                                                                                  • Almost all comment section complain about this and compare it with glintstone pebble. This sorcery is for pvp , In pvp spam glintstone pebble is useless cause opponent is smart. Comet can chain cast from other fast bait spell and melt other player in 2 cast .
                                                                                                    PVP man!

This spell gets pretty good at high mind levels, mind scaling is backloaded so you actually get the biggest returns from lvl 50-55. I see a lot of mages running something like 80 int / 30 mind, but 55 int / 55 mind will give you twice as much mana and around 25% lower incant scaling (astrologer vs carian regal) or 30% lower for lusat's.

If you're at 80 int 30 mind, casting glintstone pebble with lusat's staff (11 mana per cast, 160 mana = 14 casts, 413 incant) I think you would be better off going 55/55 and casting this with astrologers staff instead (26 mana per cast, 321 mana = 12 casts, 286 incant but 90% higher damage scaling).

If the 90% higher scaling is correct you'd be doing 286 / 413 * 1.9 =~ 30% more damage per hit, but with the downside that blue flask would only get you ~2/3 of your mana bar back.

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

Definite pick as of now.... Comet became soo much useful. As of my Testing. ( At 80 INT using Lusat's Staff +10 for 413 Sorc Scaling , 1 Fully charged Comet deals 2122 damage against a Troll giant , with Carian Regal +10 at 373 Sorc Scaling , 1 Full Comet 1803 damage )..... That's approx 15% difference in damage between the 2 , Lusat's Staff gives all my Spells a 2K damage compared to Carian Regal as of 80 INT and above... As for the FP Cost i suggest having 45-50 Mind atleast to play with Lusat's penalty ( Currently i can chain cast Comet with Lusat's Staff for 7 casts without FP Flask , with a total of 280fp ). Lusat definitely outshines Carian Regal imo only case would be Full Moon Spells... Otherwise at 80 INT the 15% difference is abit handy specialy against Bosses i'd say and tough enemies.

                                                                                                        • Anonymous

I think people miss the application of this spell. This is for when something needs to die fast, and for when you're willing to accept the FP cost of that.

                                                                                                          • I ran this spell a lot even before the buff. I could cast it 4 times an FP bar and I had 8 cerulean flasks which meant I could cast this 36 times (8 flasks + 1 natural bar) and that was enough to pummel Astel.

In scenarios where you have FP to burn and need to nuke a boss down faster than it will two shot your sorcerer ass, this is your gun.

                                                                                                            • Anonymous

Four times the amount of FP of pebble for ~80% damage increase, in my own testing following the patch. Definitely better than it was, and pretty good for burst damage, but still a terrible FP use ratio.

                                                                                                              • Anonymous

This is actually pretty good in PVP since you can fire it amidst quicker glintstones and throw off your opponent, otherwise it's just inferior to pebble.

                                                                                                                • Anonymous

Feels very weak when you get it, but late game it becomes much better. Radagon Icon reduces its cast speed, and can buffed by Godfrey Icon and Azur's Glitstone Crown (it will also increase fp cost of all spells). With all this it deals around 3x the damage of a Glinstone Pebble.

Right now at Consecrated Snowfields its much better than pebble for dealing with high HP enemies (it also easily staggers them). Pebble will always be more FP efficient, but Comet just kills stuff faster. I'm also carrying 10 FP flasks + Primal Glintstone Blade + 40 mind, so FP is not really an issue, even while using Lusat's staff.
