- Rancorcall, like many other multi-projectile spells, suffers in damage output in the early/mid game, due to the way absorption and defenses work. The higher level and scaling you reach, the better results you will get out of this spell.
- Notes: As of Patch 1.07, FP cost has been reduced from 14 to 12 and the lifespan of all vengeful spirits was extended.

AnonymousReally good on Arcane builds with the Albinaruic Staff. Has really nice minimum requirements at 16 Int and 14 Faith which lets you cast a lot of other things, like Swift Glintstone Shard, Carian Slicer, Glintstone Icecrag, Great Glintstone Shard, Magic Glintblade, Night Maiden's Mist, Magic Downpour, Unseen Blade, and Unseen Form. Bloodboon, Bloodflame Talons, Swarm of Flies, Catch Flame, Whirl O Flame!, Discus of Light, Pest Threads, Bestial Sling, Stone of Gurranq, Beast Claw, Magma Breath, Roar of Rugalea, Poison Mist, Bayle's Tyranny, and Bayle's Flame Lightning are all decent Incantations that can be cast using the Dragon Communion Seal on the same build, which all together is quite a lot of variety to choose from.

AnonymousCan anybody help? The scarab will not spawn. I ran through this area multiple times to defeat the tree spirit and never killed the scarab. I returned at level 50 amd the scarab will not respond no matter what I do. Please help I need it for a specific build and I'm losing my mind!

AnonymousI wish this spell fired one larger skull that did decent damage, and two or three smaller skulls that make a nuisance of themselves like the current version's. It would be nice if the first Death Sorcery you can use was 1. at least somewhat useful when you can first use it and 2. wasn't just a baby version of a spell you can get one region over.
This is a school of magic that is associated with Godwyn! For god's sake, if you're going to use two of this school's slots for Fia's Mist and freakin' Tibia Summons, you could at least give the rest of the spells some more variety and practical use!

AnonymousHey, what's the minimum sorcery scaling you need to make this spell actually useful? I just tried using it with the meteorite staff and minimum stats and despite having 138 sorcery scaling it does 24 damage a hit, which is comparable to my unarmed fist attacks it's so pathetic.

AnonymousAt first you might think that the slow projectiles are just a disadvantage. Then you realize that you can cast them out of aggro and attack range 3-4 times before the first projectiles hit. This makes this spell a very useful and safe "fire and forget" weapon. However, it doesn't always work against very fast opponents. For example, the dogs can sometimes run away if they don't die immediately. I'm currently using it while exploring, I shoot it from horseback without looking back. It's kind of funny, when you know how many each enemy needs, you cast them and keep riding and then a few seconds later you get your exp without ever being in danger xD

Everyone cries about Stars which you can dodge into and forget about, but this sht is true cancer to fight, only way is to run away. If you're against a good mixup mage using this, you have no chance to win except lightroll shortbow

AnonymousPrefer this for PVP over Ancient Death Rancor, eats up less fp, casts faster, and I feel it chases people down better as the skulls are smaller and don’t explode into the ground AS much. Also just less obnoxious.

AnonymousThe deaths was me, a high level undead mage, 80/80 vision. All spells have a purpose I assure you, even when they were bad numbers wise I'd use it if it looked good to me, dull blade, crooked, or sharp ill use what I want, do that and you'll reach greater heights... Listen to your enemy and you'll only ever lose.

AnonymousVery cost effective at high levels (outdamages Great Glintstone Shard even when uncharged and not using the PoD Staff). FP isn't really a huge concern by that point, but it's still probably the best choice if you want a spammable homing spell.

Then again, since when is any one thing a good damage source? If you only use one thing, it's easier to figure out what you do. Gotta keep things spicy when you invade

Did a glass cannon build and wanted to share my experience with these spells in my early run INT/FTH.
This and ancient death rancor are slow and lower damage but offer amazing stagger in PvE. If you’re the type to combo spells it actually makes the spell version of Tibias summons very on theme, and a ton more accurate.
I would use a full charge roiling magma, two charged death rancor, and a tibia summons, all casts hit around the same time for almost a guaranteed stagger. Tons of different combos to mix and match with as well.
I highly recommend a death sorcery / golden order playthrough. It’s not the most powerful early game but it makes up for it with the amount of creative freedom to spell combo.
AnonymousThe stun is very good, but the projectiles are so effing slow that it hardly matters. I did some test runs against a troll and, even with rancorcall inducing a couple of nasty crits courtesy of my upgraded Misericorde, the mighty Pebble Carbine finished him off almost twice as fast.

AnonymousI won't beat about the bush: Rancorcall will not and cannot deal any significant amount of damage. You aren't going to kill anything with it.
Instead, the true advantage of this spell lies in its ability to inflict hitstun for a longer sustained duration than any other spell you can acquire this early. It will serve you well for a long while, until you obtain the Intelligence and Faith needed to replace it with Ancient Death Rancor.

If you like the FP-efficiency of Glintstone Pebble, want exactly 2x its damage, and are already using Godfrey Icon like I am, you might enjoy this sorcery.
Similar to queueing up 5-10 Magic Glintblades before the enemy engages, Rancorcall's slow projectile enabled me to have three casts-worth already airborne before the enemy engaged, meaning the enemy died before it could do much. Whereas with Glintstone Pebble, one cast caused the enemy to engage and get closer as I attempt to finish it off with the remaining five Glintstone Pebble casts.
For the math people, I ran some numbers against a troll:
Rancorcall: 918 damage - 14 FP (65.57 dmg per FP)
Glintstone Pebble: 459 damage - 7 FP (65.57 dmg per FP)
Glintstone Stars: 757 damage - 14 FP (54.07 dmg per FP) -- only chargeable spell I had that cost 14 FP
Glintstone Cometshard: 1055 damage - 19 FP (55.53 dmg per FP)

AnonymousThe rancor spells seem really really good vs dragons. I was melting them with this at 71 int / 20 faith. Easily hitting 900 damage per cast and they all hit quite easily unless the flying animation occurs. 900 damage for so little FP is really nice compared to say my Comet which was hitting for 1300 but for way more FP.

Anonymousfor pvp it's a good spell to apply pressure mid fight, doesn't cause crazy amount of damage but it can still stagger, pursuit for a long time and range and also it requires less Faith to use than Ancient Death Rancor, which makes it more suitable for level 125 build, it's more of a tactical spell than a damage one for sure, it could have frostbite build up to be more different than Ancient Death Rancor instead of just been a cheaper version, but stills very useful.

It'd be comparable to Swift Glintstone Shard that could be charged into a Glintstone Pebble.
Of course, it'd still be objectively worse than those given the slower projectiles and the late game acquisition of Prince of Death staff (And it's hybrid INT/FTH scaling). But it'd at least have a use. Especially if they made other Death Sorceries not suck.
AnonymousI wish this spells was a bit different than just a worse version of Ancient Death Rancor Call. Something more along the lines of a Great Glintstone Shard (fewer but faster projectiles, but shorter range) that cost less would make this a worthwhile spell. As it stands, this isn't terribly after you get the bigger version.

AnonymousI would say that subjectively this spell is one of the most useless spells in the game as of 1.04 due to how this spell damage is scaled.
At early-midgame this spell is just horrible when it comes to sorcery scaling. It doesn't even outdamage Glintstone Pebble while costing double the fp. And once you get to lategame it gets replaced by Ancient Death Rancor, a spell that suffers the same problem as Rancorcall but less bad due to it being able to stagger enemies and doing more damage lategame.
Until Fromsoft rebalances this spell it's generally not worth using it at all. Such a shame death sorceries are so unviable early on.

AnonymousThis spell is excellent at long range in PvP for forcing others to stop their ranged attacks a moment and give you openings to approach. E.g. it has longer range than Stars of Ruin, so cast this a couple times, follow the skulls and now you can approach a mage much more easily.
If you yourself are a mage, like other homing spells it's good for frame-trapping, and if your opponent has low enough poise it can stagger them comboing into other spells you've set up. If they have high poise and are not afraid to eat the small damage you might need this spell's big brother for more stagger. But this one has such low requirements and FP cost that I prefer it.
TL;DR it's not for damage, it's cover fire threatening people with stagger

Nice kiting spell for horseback.. can reach target facing any direction.

AnonymousYou can easily proc Carian Retaliation with this, aim down slightly towards the ground and then parry after casting.

So I have gone down to this location multiple times now specifically for this spell but the scarab isn't there and I don't have the spell yet. Any idea why it isn't appearing for me?

AnonymousAny idea what type of damage this does? It doesn't seem to set fire to enemies that have a unique stagger to fire, nor have I gotten it to proc frostbite in the same way ghostflame seems to do so when used by the death rite birds.

AnonymousFrom the Liftside Chamber site of grace, head outside and hug the right wall. Fall down the edge (might not make it alive if you haven't invested much into vigor.) Keep hopping down until you make it to the ground. Follow the path and kill the rats. The spell will be behind the big rat. If you keep following the path down you can also kill a miniboss for a golden seed, a stonesword key, and the Prince of Death's Pustule talisman if you haven't gotten those already.

AnonymousFor enemies that has clear weak spot, this spell is very good, example fighting dragons and you want to target their head, amazing tracking. It's somewhat spammable and the charged one doesn't hit much higher than non charged, so it's just a good all rounder without charge. Plus can sometimes burn enemies through if they got tiny hp left feels real good to use.

This spell is worth it for the stagger alone. While the projectiles are hitting many enemies will basically be stunned for the duration + recovery after the last one hits. With how slow the projectiles are you can cast, walk up and charge a heavy attack for free.

Those complaining that this spell is weak prob need to invest more in INT/FTH and use Prince of Deaths staff. Versus the same mob, I have done 666 damage with glinstone pebble vs 1187 with this one, with high investment in both INT/FTH (60/60). The projectiles are slow, but they have a longer range than most sorceries and can track enemies that like to roll or sidestep when you cast spells at them. The ability to stagger also makes this spell spammable (use Radagon's Icon for faster cast) and most enemies that can be staggered are helpless. Because the projectiles are slow, you can get multiple casts off from a distance before the enemy will react, and if they are staggered you get time for more casts. It is similar to affinity/pursuers from Dark Souls. For more damage, the stronger version of this spell does about 30% more.
Another weakness of this spell line is that the projectiles may crash into walls because they spread out from the staff when shot, making the spell more difficult to use in closed spaces. If enemies are too close, the spell might miss. This might be a spell that is better for mid to late game when people have more stats in int/fth.

As of now, a sorcery catalyst that scales with faith hasn't been found. Hopefully there's one hidden away in the game somewhere

Anonymouswas excited when i found this spell only to be disappointed by it. it's CRAP. less damage than glintstone pebble and DOUBLE the fp. the homing missiles are so slow and easy for enemies to evade. yet another spell that needs a buff. why are 90% of the spells in this game complete crap and not worth using over the starter sorceries?

at high sorcery scalings, it becomes a good alternative to great glintstone shard and glintstone stars, especially because this can be boosted by both Godfrey Icon and PoD staff. However, it's not as reliable as those two, as it's dumb tracking can mean that some of the skulls will simply not hit the target before they disappear.
