Walter Knapp liked thisWalter Knapp liked thisHouston is showing strong spring shopping intent right now. The biggest signals are coming from three categories: 1. Home & Garden 2. Furniture 3. Kitchen & Dining That tracks for the season. Consumers are refreshing, reorganizing, and upgrading their spaces. What’s notable is where that demand is concentrated. According to the Sovrn Data Collective, Houston is over-indexing 500% above the national average across all three categories. The broader market helps explain why. Among the top 10 U.S. cities, Houston stands out for its young and growing population: - Median age: 34.4 - 15.5% of residents are in their 20s - Average family size: 3.35, second-largest among the top 10 cities The takeaway: Houston is full of young families actively investing in their homes. For marketers, that’s the signal to watch. Spring demand is not just showing up in search interest. It’s showing up in real commerce behavior, at scale, in one of the largest metro areas in the country.

Walter Knapp liked thisWalter Knapp liked thisQ2 is here, and one thing is becoming clearer every quarter in affiliate commerce: The folks winning right now aren't the ones with the most traffic. It's the publishers and platforms with the best monetization infrastructure behind them. Clicks have always been the easy part. What's harder — and what most partners underestimate — is making sure every high-intent moment is connected to the right merchant, at the right time, with the right offer. That's the gap Sovrn Commerce exists to close. 50,000+ merchant programs. Performance-based. No upfront cost. And demand that's live across electronics, apparel, home, travel, and more — ready to work the moment a reader or user is ready to buy. The publishers and platforms we work with aren't just adding a revenue line. They're building something more durable: a commerce layer that compounds over time as their audience grows. If you're thinking about how to make your commerce content work harder in Q2 and beyond, I want to speak with you.

We’ve closed a $100M oversubscribed Series B to take our oral GLP-1 into the clinic and advance a complementary small molecule pipeline. It’s a turbulent time to raise capital in biotech, but our approach has been the same from day one: do what we say we’re going to do, and support it with great science. There's an hidden world of code constraining what most of us can and cannot do with technology, and as we've seen again and again, those constraints almost always favor the business models of the tech platforms who enforce them. I've researched and written about these constraints for years. But this one small example was the first time I've directly encountered their bite. Walter Knapp liked thisWalter Knapp liked thisI was recently asked to update an init script as part of a staging JSON file. My first thought was... this is above my pay grade. My second thought... this is outside my comfort zone. If I’ve learned anything in my career, it’s that some of the most useful work happens when you trust your ability to figure something out instead of waiting until it’s already familiar, or until someone else teaches it to you. So I dug in, opened about a dozen new tabs, consulted Cursor, got all the context I needed, and I made the change. Realistically, it was easier than I thought, and for bonus points, it helped resolve an issue I’d initially escalated to my engineering team. There’s a lesson in there somewhere about teaching a person to fish... But for you, dear reader, I’ll leave you with this: “I haven’t done this before” and “I can’t do this” have never been the same thing.

Walter Knapp liked thisWalter Knapp liked thisToday is the first day of spring, and if search behavior is any signal, consumers are already in reset mode. They're decluttering. Deep cleaning. Looking up allergy shots for their dogs. But search trends only tell you what's top of mind. They don't show where that intent goes next. That's where commerce data becomes more valuable. According to Sovrn Insights: - Pet supplies shoppers are also buying home & garden (62%) and building materials (60%) - Household supplies shoppers are also buying shoes (70%) and tech gear (66%) - Health & wellness shoppers are also buying new bedding (46%) The spring reset is rarely just one purchase. That's the difference between search data and commerce data. One shows what people are thinking about. The other shows where intent turns into action.

🚨NEW EPISODE: Recorded live at FUTURE TITANS 2026 - Jeff Perry of Carta sat down with the iconic Seth Levine, co-founder of Foundry. Seth has been in venture for 25 years, built Foundry from scratch as an emerging manager himself, and has backed about 50 emerging manager funds through his fund of funds. He has genuinely seen every side of this table. They went deep on building Foundry, why VCs are in the influence business, not the decision business, and why the concentration problem in venture is not only bad for LPs, but also for the innovation ecosystem overall. And why Seth's new book, Capital Evolution, is so important for the future of America. 🎧 Links to listen... Apple: https://lnkd.in/ehQUQ2EM Spotify: https://lnkd.in/eU4FExpg

Anthropic opens gate for importing memories from ChatGPT, Gemini and more to Claude in a new gamechanger update. Anthropic has turned Claude’s latest memory update into something larger than a settings change. The company is now letting users move context from rival chatbots into Claude, which means people do not have to rebuild their AI preferences from zero after switching. Anthropic also expanded memory from chat history to all Claude users, including free accounts. That move matters because it cuts one of the biggest switching costs in AI, which is losing the tone, habits, and work context that another chatbot already learned. #Technology, #ArtificialIntelligence , #DigitalTransformation , #Innovation , #startups, https://lnkd.in/e_idQHpB

Camber Creek led the $3.7 million Seed round for TwinKnowledge, which is tackling an important problem in the built environment. Construction projects get delayed and rework is required because of discrepancies across construction documents, submittals, requests for information, design, and other plans. TwinKnowledge’s AI Agents absorb structured and unstructured project data, surfacing and preventing conflicts before the work begins. Dashboards don’t create accountability. They create meetings. Charts get shared. Everyone nods. Action items get “noted”. Same problems. Next quarter. Accountability doesn’t come from visibility. It comes from systems — where ownership is clear and decisions can’t be ignored. I wrote a short note on why dashboards feel productive but rarely change behaviour — and what actually does. If your org has great dashboards but the same issues every review… this will sound familiar. Dashboards Don’t Create Accountability — Systems Do: https://lnkd.in/gCGpm-VU

Building crucial Identity… • 3K followers
The Wild West meets the Wild East When Claude 4.0 launched and the "big beautiful bill" hit Congress, we talked about the agent economy being the Wild West. Unregulated, moving fast, uncertain rules. It's also when I started having fun with AstraSync AI's trademark nefarious robot imagery. Last week proved we were focused on the wrong geography. It also proved that the timeline for bringing infrastructure to improve safety and security is much shorter than just about anybody realised. It's not just about whether you are deploying Agents in production, you're still at risk. How? For those who haven't read it yet, Anthropic just disclosed that Chinese state-sponsored hackers used Claude Code to automate cyberattacks against 30+ organisations. The AI performed 80-90% of the work. Reconnaissance, exploit development, credential harvesting, data exfiltration. Four enterprises were successfully breached. The official report is linked in the comments and it's a fascinating read. Here's the uncomfortable bit: Anthropic has world-class safety measures. They detected the attack, investigated thoroughly, banned the accounts, and notified victims. And those victims had no idea they were compromised for 10+ days. The problem isn't that Anthropic's security failed. It's that platform security, no matter how good, can't protect systems the platform provider can't see. To be clear: these weren't Anthropic customers whose accounts were compromised. These were organizations that had no relationship with Anthropic. They were simply targets of attacks where AI agents were the weapon. The victims' security teams had no visibility into the fact that an AI was orchestrating the attack against them. We're currently working with our expert advisory team on a paper that will help enterprise and regulators navigate this new terrain. We'll explain what actually failed and what enterprises need instead. Until then: If your organisation is deploying agents, how would you know if one was compromised? Drop your answer in comments. We're genuinely curious what people are thinking about. #AIAgents #EnterpriseSecurity #AIGovernance #KnowYourAgent

Now announcing, Adaptive Constructs, a "boring" holding company, that allows for 3 exciting ventures: Alpha Synapse, Marlyse and Antique IQ. https://lnkd.in/gH7DCvBZ The making of: This launch is built on a head full of curiosity and a life unshackled by constraints. The journey took me from Silicon Valley to the gritty backstreets in NYC, where the punk rock of AI is happening in real time. I've spent my time learning to distill the bleeding edge into the leading edge — not for novelty’s sake, but to drive real business outcomes back here in Minnesota. Because in the end, execution beats inspiration. Our overall theory: Build in secret, attempt to win in plain sight. We intend to say only a small fraction of what we can in order to protect our unique position in what has already become a cacophony of AI chatter. Announcing partnerships: Marlyse Blihovde, Dan Mallin, Scott Litman, and Spencer Grover. Extra Thanks: I needed a place to work LittleBig. I needed to supplement inspiration Sarah Edwards. And a creative team given the mandate "say little, and please don't BORE anyone". Lead by Hal Lovemelt, Andrew Charon What we announce today is merely the tip of the spear. Stay tuned for more.

It goes by a lot of names: MSO, synthetic rollup, business-in-a-box. But earning a right to sharing in customers' upside is unique vertical strategy. Shopify, Honor, Compass, DoorDash, TaskRabbit, OpenDoor, Grow Therapy. What does it take to win that level of customer trust early? Sometimes, it means doing things that don't scale. Services can play a big role. We asked Dan Friedman, founder of another champion of the model: Moxie Get Dan's take in this clip from our latest episode.

Founder and Managing Partner… • 4K followers
I didn’t start Redline Ventures because the world needed another fund. I started it because too many exceptional founders are under-supported, and too many serious investors are locked out of real tech deal flow. As a YC founder, I’ve seen how outcomes are actually created. Not by logos on a cap table, but by one investor who shows up, opens doors, and leans in when it matters. Redline exists to be that investor. For founders, that means operator judgment, hands-on support, and capital that comes with leverage. Intros, hiring help, distribution, and direct feedback. No cosplay. No performative “value add.” For LPs, it’s early access to the best technology companies in the world through Y Combinator and HF0 Residency. Deals they would never see otherwise, at the same terms, long before they read about them in the Wall Street Journal. This isn’t about spraying checks. It’s about conviction, alignment, and doing fewer things better. Access compounds. Trust compounds. So do results. That’s the thesis.

On Friday, the U.S. Senate Committee for Commerce, Science, and Transportation issued a press release publicly announcing Moveworks’ endorsement of Senator Ted Cruz's AI Sandbox Act. This legislation is a critical step forward in bridging the gap between private sector innovation and public sector needs. As I recently testified before Congress, the procurement and adoption challenges for AI in government are significant. The AI Sandbox Act directly addresses these issues by creating controlled environments for startups to partner with federal agencies. This will not only accelerate AI adoption, but also ensure our government benefits from the same efficiencies transforming the private sector. I applaud Senator Ted Cruz's leadership on this front. By fostering collaboration, we can strengthen American competitiveness, and build a more efficient and effective government for all. I spoke w/ Cloudflare co-founder & CEO Matthew Prince for the latest ep of the Slow Hunch podcast. Since 2010, Matthew and his team have built Cloudflare into one of the most important companies on the internet: powering and protecting vast portions of global traffic. I’ve known Matthew since Union Square Ventures’ investment in Cloudflare’s Series C back in 2013, and it was really fun tracing his slow hunch, right from those early days. We covered: - how he met co-founders Michelle Zatlyn and Lee Holloway - the early experiments and risks that shaped Cloudflare - stories from the company’s pre-IPO days - the decision to make encryption free - how their infra ended up running 2 of the internet’s 13 root servers - his thoughts on AI (esp the transition from a search-driven internet to an answer-driven one) Hope you enjoy!

As leaders in this industry, we have to think beyond just what’s possible with AI. We also have to think about what’s responsible. In this conversation, Justin Riley pointed out something that contractors need to be aware of. Consent for messaging does not automatically mean consent for AI voice outreach. That distinction matters. Especially as more businesses start implementing these tools. Watch the full episode: https://lnkd.in/gNEWjTCQ Listen to the full episode: https://lnkd.in/gih7aJAD

Even the most skeptical voices are starting to acknowledge the value of LLM generated code. Not as a replacement for deep expertise, but as a practical tool for acceleration, exploration, and iteration. When someone as famously disciplined about code quality as Linus Torvalds publicly acknowledges that AI generated code can be useful, it signals a shift worth paying attention to. The takeaway is not that AI writes better software than humans, but that good engineers are learning where and how these tools create leverage. https://lnkd.in/eFbNFqYN

The "Earn-to-Own" transition is a common theme in emerging studios. Many venture studios get their start as service businesses. Ad agencies, dev shops, engineering firms. It makes sense when you think about it - they've played a key role in the venture-building process, but favored the consistent cash flow in lieu of owning the assets. Then, they have the epiphany: their business already has many of the elements needed to build a venture studio, so why not make the move? Here's the thing: navigating this transition is harder than it sounds. Many studios begin with a plan to offset capital needs with services work. When it's time to fund raise for the studio, a clear conflict emerges - and it's often too late to do anything about it. Investors want to know that the studio's resources are going toward venture-building and not client work. Without a clean separation, the studio never grows up. It's a bad look, and a waste of precious time. Transitioning from a services firm to a venture building operation is hard - but not impossible. If you're thinking about such a move, and need resources, we cover this in our latest paper, "the GP Dilemma." DM me if you'd like a copy!

Exciting to see the incredible progress from Peptone, a company we’ve backed since the early days at Walden Catalyst Ventures. Peptone just announced Peptron-O, developed in collaboration with NVIDIA — a groundbreaking AI engine that brings ensemble-first structure prediction to the disordered proteome. This is a major scientific and technological milestone, targeting one of the most complex and previously inaccessible areas of biology: intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs). By shifting the paradigm from static models to dynamic ensembles, Peptron-O opens new doors for drug discovery — especially in areas like oncology and neurodegeneration, where IDPs play critical roles. We’re proud to have supported Peptone on their mission to build the infrastructure for next-gen molecular physics. Their work is a great example of how deep tech can transform life sciences. Ando • 2K followers
Today we’re sharing some big news. Ando raised a $4M seed round, led by Slow Ventures, with participation from Blitzscaling Ventures, Zero Capital, Monochrome Capital, Gaingels, Mana Ventures, Fireroad, and additional investors. Hourly work powers a huge part of the economy but scheduling is still a mess. Too often, staffing doesn’t match real demand, shifts change at the last minute, and workers are left trying to juggle childcare, commutes, school pickup, and second (or third) jobs. That chaos is expensive for businesses and brutal for workers. Ando exists to make hourly work more predictable. We use AI to forecast demand for each location and help teams build schedules that fit real people. We’ve been in the field with enterprise customers for over a year, and the early traction is encouraging: - 90%+ daily demand accuracy - 100% conversion from presentation → pilot → paid platform - 100% retention so far In some locations, customers have seen $60K–$80K in incremental revenue (results vary and aren’t solely attributable to Ando) Most importantly, this is about treating workers’ time like it matters. If you’re working multiple jobs, a last-minute schedule change isn’t a small inconvenience, it can blow up your week. This funding will help us expand our forecasting and scheduling platform and scale deployments with enterprise customers. Grateful to our investors, advisors, customers, and team. And if you’re an operator or leader living this problem every day, I’d love to connect.
