Quill is a Key Item in Hollow Knight Silksong. Key Items can be used to unlock doors, reveal new locations, open chests, or gain access to new mechanics. They often unlock new features or help progress the main story of the game.
How to Get Quill Key Item in Hollow Knight Silksong
- Bone Bottom [Silksong Map]
- Can be purchased from Shakra for 50 Rosaries.
- You will encounter Shakra for the first time in Bone Bottom.
- You can find a Purple Quill in Trobbio's Room after defeating him in the Whispering Vaults. This item is available only in Act 3. The Purple Quill has the same function as the one you buy from Shakra.
Where to Use Quill Item in Hollow Knight Silksong
- Once acquired, the Quill is used automatically. Every time Hornet sits on a bench, she will use the Quill to automatically update her maps.

- Enables Hornet to update her Map everytime she rests on the bench, making it easier for you to navigate through explored platforms.

Missing: Red quill after Trobbio act 2. (Purple in act 3 - without defeating him by using another route might be possible?)
Having a quill blocks getting another quill. (Buying white blocks the other two quills. Taking the red one blocks the purple quill. Getting to act 3 blocks the red quill which is replaced by the purple quill.)
Modders need to get on this. If we could just upgrade the quill it'd be a cool feature for modders to figure out.

Can anyone find out if you can find quills on both Mt Fay and the court of craws? I'm seeing mentions of people finding quills there. You can 100% confirmed get a red quill from Trobbio's room in act 2 and in act 3, there is a purple quill in the same spot instead if you don't take it in act 2.

If you don't buy the quill from Shakra, you can get a different version for free in Trobbio's room - it does the same thing but it's got a different sprite.
Anyone know if you have to beat tormented Trobbio before you get purple quill? Just curious
