You used this because you needed a one-shot "get off me" button to handle gankers, and will switch to another L2 stick after the nerf.

I use this because of the free lightning buff. 120 damage is a lot considering the speed and already impressive DPS.

this **** became even worse than stormcaller,i saw it doing like 200 damage per swing, which is max 700 damage now, hard nerf for invaders sadly

The added lightning damage description is wrong. It adds a flat 120 lightning damage and nothing else. It neither scales with weapon upgrade level nor dexterity.

Yes it's a super strong ash of war.

It's also on an axe... at least there's 1 good axe because of this unique skill. Super useful against aggressive gankers.

This is stupidly strong in pvp. I have 71 poise and 2300 hp and some guy and pvp can stunlock me into 3/4 of my health bar getting annihilated in 2 seconds.

cant believe i had the misfortune of finding a host and his phantoms all using this, not the weapon mind you, just spamming the ash of war in small rooms and refusing to go out and you know, actually fight, god I love Elden Ring PvP

Insanely ridiculous in low level pvp. I love barely surviving the first 3 hits of the L2 that you're locked into. The fact that this also adds over 50% extra AR at low levels makes it incredibly busted. My character has over 100 poise at lvl 40 and it doesn't even matter, you have to take the first 3 hits, which will probably do over 800 damage to you. Make sure to have ~26 VIG or you'll get one shot by this even in heavy armor. It does get boring fighting people who use things like this, but you should really just get on the devs to fix it. For the mean time, I will continue to point you down when I beat you if you use this at low levels.

Did some testing about the scaling of the passive lightning buff it applies to the weapon, since the page says it scales with dex (if i understand correctly). My testing was done by hitting an enemy with an R1 attack with and without the weapon art buff active, as well as with a variety of stat boosting equipment. When increasing my stats, I used the cracked tear and talisman for the stated stat to increase the stat by 15.

                    R1 with no buffs: 155
R1 with weapon art buff only (no stat buffs): 249

                    dex buff only: 164 (increase = 9)
                    weapon art + dex: 258 (increase = 9)

                    str buff only: 160 (increase = 5)
                    weapon art + str: 254 (increase = 5)

                    dex + str only: 168 (increase = 13)
                    weapon art + dex + str: 262 (increase = 13)

So it seems to me that the damage of the passive lightning buff the ash of war applies does not scale with any stat.

                      Two questions:

                      1) Does this deal physical damage, lightning damage, or a combination of the two?
                      2) Does this activate or benefit from Millicent's Prosthesis / Rotten Winged Sword Insignia?

                      • Anonymous

i'm using this in SL1 invasions and killing the host+2 phantoms in a single L2 sometimes. They can't get out if the first whirl hits. and following up with more L2s lets you focus down any survivors

                        • At base level it dealt 86 damage on light attack, and with the skill buff active it dealt 105 damage, a ~23% increase. The Skill use itself swings 3 times and deals 130/269/420 respectfully, because of this I think the game rounds the damage to 25%. The skill buff last 20 seconds from activation, leaving you around 16 of actual use after the swings.

I assume it's from the npc that you can summon for godrick, she seemed to be using this in the fight. Idk if she drops it if you kill her or need to complete questline or what. It's the girl wearing the Hero class starting armour, in a room close to the giant outside of godricks boss room
