Charge into battle, pick off enemies one-by-one using stealth, or even call upon allies for aid. Many options are at your disposal as you decide how to approach exploration and combat.
Stealth Mechanics: Becoming Hidden
In-game, there is a crouch mechanic that allows you to move unnoticed. To be precise, an enemy's detection range is reduced if you are crouching while approaching them. If you approach them from the front they will still notice you, but approach them from behind while crouching and it's likely they won't notice you at all. You are able to use the environment for assistance, such as disguising oneself in tall grass, or create distractions through the noise created by shooting an arrow at a nearby wall. During the night or rain, enemy's detection range will also be reduced. Other opportunities could come from special Skills and by having special movesets or i-frames usable by those with high stealth.
Stealth Assassinations
Stealth elements usually allow players to perform powerful moves and inflict critical damage on enemies. In Elden Ring, successfully attacking an enemy from behind when they are unaware of your presence allows you to perform a Critical Attack through a backstab. There are Talismans in the game that boost the damage of these Critical Attacks, or add extra effects when performing one.
Stealth Weapons, Armor and Equipment
Sneak and stealth mechanics can be improved via special Magic Equipment and spells. While none make the player completely undetectable, some make the player semi-invisible, some conceal the sound made by the player, and some improve stealth while crouched.

Multiplayer and Stealth Elements
Players are able to stealth during co-operative play and during invasions, but shouldn't expect it to work the same way on host players while invading as it does on NPC enemies. No equipment or spell allows the player character to go completely invisible, so even though they've stacked on stealth items, other players will still be able to see them.
AnonymousStealth value is an actual, unseen stat for players. If your stealth is high enough, you cannot be locked on by other players. All stealth bonuses stack on top of crouching. Even still, the players can still see you, even if mechanically you are "invisible".
If you are in this untargetable state, you also gain a global damage increase to players in the same way you would from hitting an npc when not detected.

AnonymousDid they nerf sneaking in a patch or something? I used to be able to pretty reliably get a sneak attack on at least my first target in overworld camps or on patrolling enemies in dungeons, but recently it seems like every enemy spins around at the very last second before can pull one off.

I was hoping to find out whether one can actually sneak or not during an invasion. Like, does the floating name give you away? I only did it for the White Faced guy's mission, so i was curious.

AnonymousProbably reaching but does anybody know if hitting a player whose not in combat does bonus damage? I one shot a phantom mage with a crouched sneak attack when he turned a blind corner. One handed grand mace 40 str, level 120. Of course he’s a a silly glass cannon mage but crouch attacks are still too weak to one shot unless there’s legitimately a stealth multiplier for melee. I know in pve there is

Do torches or the lantern affect stealth? It doesn't feel like it.
