Gods & Deities are worshiped beings that carry a vast amount of power in Elden Ring. Their influence is felt all across the Lands Between and they have often shaped the course of the overall narrative. Many act at the behest of Outer Gods who do not have physical form and rely on various envoys. Empyreans chosen by the Two Fingers who serve The Greater Will have the potential within them to attain godhood, as seen with the Twin Prodigies. The greatest example of a god would be Queen Marika the Eternal who leads the Golden Order and started the age of the Erdtree.

This is a list of gods and deities whose status is confirmed explicitly by in-game descriptions or dialogue.

God of the Dragonlord

A god associated with Dragonlord Placidusax and the Ancient Dragons during his time as Elden Lord in an age before the Erdtree. This god is said to have fled Crumbling Farum Azula, although the reason for this and the consequences of it are not concisely elaborated on. According to the Old Lord's Talisman, it is said that the ancient royal city of Farum Azula has been slowly crumbling since time immemorial.

It is possible that Placidusax's title of "Elden Lord" logically entails that he was a Lord under the Greater Will - as Godfrey and Radagon were - and the god that fled was his spouse and previous vessel of the Elden Ring, though this is unconfirmed.

The Old Gods

The Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword was fashioned from an excavated shard of an arrowhead that once was a part of the old gods' arsenal. It is a capable piercing weapon that excels at thrusting attacks and is one of the treasures of the ruined forges. Not much else is known about the old gods or this weapon apart from the Golem Smiths having an interest in forging this weapon in the first place.

Tutelary Deities

Horns are sublime artifacts to the hornsent, and their presence confirms the belief that they are a chosen people. They view the Crucible as sacred for the refinement wrought through its evolutionary gifts. Most prominently, their tangled horns. The spiral that they worship is a normalized Crucible current that, one day, will form a column that stretches to the gods. Tangled horns are a symbol of spirituality, but most young born bearing the oversized horns meet a frightfully early demise. Particularly potent Revered Spirit Ashes are acquired from the corpses of hornsent and other objects that ritually decorate townships and villages across the realm of shadow. The withered corpses that many hornsent prayed to were called tutelary deities, and Revered Spirit Ash was said to quietly accumulate in the palms of their hands. Curseblades wore a mask affixed with a crown of tangled horns for Divine Invocation, and attempted to become tutelary deities by heightening their spirituality through severe ascetic training, but failed and became a scourge for those who attempted to invade the hornsent homeland.

The God Hunt

At an undisclosed period of time The Gloam-Eyed Queen wielding the god-slaying black flame led the Godskin Apostles to bring death to the gods. Once a sign of the gods' wrath, Noble Presence became a trophy of the Godskin Nobles' god hunt. But after her defeat at the hands of Maliketh, the Black Blade, Destined Death was sealed and the true power of the black flame was lost. The actual gods hunted by the Godskins are never described or heard from again, perhaps a credence to their success.

Queen Marika the Eternal

Queen Marika is continuously referred to as a god by many denizens of the Lands Between and by herself when addressing Lord Radagon, she ascended to godhood as an Empyrean chosen by the Two Fingers and rules the Lands Between on behalf of the Greater Will. Queen Marika was said to have slain an evil deity once worshiped by the giants, and upon realizing the flames of their forge would never die, Queen Marika marked the last Fire Giant with a curse. After sealing away the Rune of Death with her shadowbound beast Maliketh she created the Golden Order and established a lasting faith centered around the Erdtree. Bearing the Elden Ring, she would shatter it before the events of the game and plunge the land into turmoil, later being imprisoned inside the Erdtree.

The God-Devouring Serpent

Eiglay, the giant snake which devoured Praetor Rykard, and whose name may come from the church where the Serpent's Amnion can be found, is incapable of dying completely and possesses the ability to devour gods. There appears to be a statue which depicts it in from of the Temple of Eiglay site of grace in Volcano Manor, and also possibly its shed skin can be found on the outskirts of Bonny Village. According to the Serpent-God's Curved Sword, it was fashioned in the image of an ancient serpent deity and is a tool of a forgotten religion practiced on Mt. Gelmir. Before feeding himself to the great serpent, Rykard envisioned the shape of a serpent devouring the world, believing it to be the future. See Ancient Serpents page for more.

There is also the Abyssal Serpent that plagues Messmer the Impaler, granting him a source of power so great that Queen Marika was forced to pluck out Messmer's eye and replace it with a seal of grace out of fear (see Remembrance of the Impaler). It is also the reason why Messmer was sealed away in the Land of Shadow. Messmer despised his own fire. Time and time again he hoped to rid himself of it, but ever did it burn. It is unknown if the Abyssal Serpent has any connection to the God-Devouring Serpent that ate Rykard, though there are winged serpent statue depictions in the Temple of Eiglay. According to the Duelist Set, the snake is viewed as a traitor to the Erdtree, and the audience delighted in seeing these bronze effigies beaten and battered.

Malenia Goddess of Rot

After initially defeating Malenia at Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree, she blooms into a Scarlet Aeonia for a second time, taking on the form of the goddess of rot and representative of the sealed Outer God of Rot in the Lands Between. Her first Aeonian bloom notably leveled much of Caelid, transforming it into an unrecognizable wasteland. Though she had spent her whole life resisting the scourge of the scarlet rot, she reveals the true horror it can create upon the tarnished.

Miquella the Kind

In the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, the Empyrean Miquella seeks to tread the same path his mother once did and reach the Gate of Divinity and become a god. Along his journey across the Land of Shadow, Miquella divests himself of mortal qualities and flesh at various Crosses, and even separates himself from his other half St. Trina. Aiding him are a band of followers who have been enticed by his powerful ability to charm others. After reaching Enir-Ilim players discover Miquella's ascended divinity, and his new Lord.
