Greases are basically useless in a pve setting (and arguably almost even in pvp except on blacksteel/fire knight weapons..) why make them also so hard to farm mats? All while ashes of war and status effects are op. Fromsoft really doesn't know how to balance their games

The Farming spot that helped me the most is the Coastal Cave, it's in Limgrave where you get the Sewing kit for Boc, it has 7 Demi-Humans before the Fog Gate that can be farmed, with the Silver Scarab and Silver Fowl Foot I had at least 1/2 strings on each sweep.

I'm convinced that the demi-humans have created a colossal ball of twine, made out of all the string available in the entire world, and hidden it somewhere. They probably worship it.
It's the only explanation for why string is impossible to find. The few times you do find a bit of string, it was on a demi-human making a pilgrimage, to make its small contribution the Great Twine.

Drawstring grease and roped firepots can be assumed to not be in the game at all by how hard it is to get string, but they put it anyways just to mock us. Now I'm one that liked those items in DS3 and hoped to see them here too, kinda sad that FS decided to sacrifice this items just for a joke. Either that or cheat engine is cannon

I understand making ingredients for stronger pots and greases rare (like aeonian butterflies for rot grease/pots) but making a base ingredients for crafting any kind of drawstring grease or roped pot this rare is just silly.

Anyone who spams drawstring grease like they're bundles in DS3 statistically uses cheat engine. Even duping for enough of them would take too long. I can see your time played on steam. Yeah I believe you did NG+ a few times, mastered this game's PvP, and slaughtered several million demihumans along the way in 130 hours. But the blame is on from, at this point.

It seems that Volcano cave is the best option. One fully charged Haima Cannon (dragon breath, etc) kills the entire demihuman bunch, and with the white scarab talisman you can quickly collect your strings, along with many other cool items - glass shards, volcanic rocks, glowstones, clubs, scimitars, ultra-light rickety shields for parry enthusiasts, and so on - fun for the entire family!

The easiest way to add a string bellbearing would probably be to just add another bell bearing hunter to one of the countless merchant shacks.

I see many pvpers use drawstring so I can only assume they cheat engined these in with the amount they use in a drawn out fight. I just hope From makes string and all of the ingredients for grease purchasable so I don't have to go to the same lengths.

After 130 hours I got 6 Legendary Somber Smithing Stones, 6 Legendary Smithing Stones, 99 Rune Arcs, 13 Dragon Hearts, 18 Larval Tears and 4 string.

There is a better farming spot than the coastal cave, it's the Seaside ruins site of grace, just East of it. There are some Godrick Soldiers as well as 8 Demi-humans. They have the same dropchance (as one would expect) and you can just map teleport back to the Grace instead of Memory-ing so you can keep your Runes.

How to use rope bombs and drawstring grease. Step 1, farm demi-humans. Step 2, keep farming demi-humans. Step 3, you've exhausted all your string in PvP, go back to farming demi-humans. Repeat steps 1-3 several times. Step 4, get sick of farming string, dupe it with a friend/alt or spawn it in.

So no ones has mentioned site of grace SEASIDE RUINS I'm level 1 used glinstone arc and in 10 minutes I was able to get about 14 strings.....as soon as you touch the grace head south east and you'll see demihumans fighting through a Flintstone arc and you'll have most killed then head towards the coast and another 8 demi humans are there easy 1 hit kills no matter what level your at get a staff and magic thats it

Most unnecessarily rare item of all time. Rope fire bombs were a super useful tool in PvP in Dark Souls 3, by far my most used tool. In this game they're almost impossible to get, in two playthroughs I have acquired enough string to make a staggering 17 rope fire pots. Just make this stuff buyable with runes.

Fort Haight West has at least 7 Demi in one location. Idk all the numbers but I tend to get 1 drop of string on each farm. Discovery at 250

Almost done with my 2nd NG and I have 69 string. Never once used it to craft. However the EXCEEDINGLY RARE Trinas Lily and Miquellas Lily I have 185 and 142 also never used them to craft. From Im gonna need a bell bearing for string.

It'd be so easy to patch in a couple extra bell bearing hunters for stuff like large glintstone scraps, string, etc. No idea why relatively basic items should require hours of farming.

It boggles my mind why they made it so that cracked pots are not consumed upon using an item, but strings somehow are. In what world is it easier to reuse a pot that's literally been shattered into dozens of pieces than a piece of string that isn't even destroyed at all?

After seeing many comments about how low the string drop rate was I wanted to see if it was worth farming at all for roped pots. All kills were done with 274 item discovery, 99 arcane and the talisman on a magic casting build with 15 vigor, lvl 160, all were easily done.

Medium-sized demi-humans in volcano cave, 5 are very close to the grace.
1000 kills, 132 string, 13.2% drop rate

You can kill 1000 of them in about an hour it's very quick and easy. Not an incredible drop rate, but very doable with minimal effort.

Since no one has mentioned it, first room of Volcano Cave has a pack of 5 demi-humans closely bunched up. No idea if it's the best spot but it seems a lot better than Coastal Cave to me.

The drop chance on these is so ridiculously low and without a place to sell it.... well, roped bombs are a specialty weapon now.

Having such a low drop rate and no way to buy these is just insane. The consumables its used for are burned through quickly so it discourages me from even using them at all because I'll quickly run out with no way to replenish other than farming for hours.

There is a droprate of 3% I got 6 string in 200 demi humans. I farm them in the Limgrave Coastal Cave grace.
