A version of Minecraft Infdev was released on June 29, 2010.[1] This version is not available in the launcher, but has been archived elsewhere.

This day also featured the release of the very first version of the standalone Minecraft launcher in the form of a downloadable applet, with the MinecraftLauncher.jar file being released by Notch on his blog.[1] This was the last version of Java Edition that required internet access.

IRC logs show that people were referring to this as "alpha" upon release.[2] Notch also mentioned in a June 30 blog post "the version that was called “infdev” up until yesterday",[3] also implying that this was the first version of Alpha.

I tried adding corals, but it’s really hard to draw a single block that looks like corals, since it’s really more about crazy amounts of variation and diversity. But I do know that the corals will have tiny fish particles around them."
