Thread Storm is an equippable Silk Skill (Ability) in Hollow Knight Silksong. The Thread Storm is a powerful skill that turns Hornet's silk into whips. When used, Hornet leaps for a brief period and unleashes a powerful whipping attack that hits everything around her, providing Hornet cover from enemies. The skill consumes Silk when used, and can be acquired at Greymoor.
How to Get Thread Storm Ability in Hollow Knight Silksong
- Location: Greymoor [Silksong Map]
How to acquire or unlock the Thread Storm in Silksong:
- Starting from the Halfway Home area, proceed all the way to the right until you reach a section with several platforms suspended by chains.
- Begin climbing upwards. Once you jump to the upper area, enter the zone to your right. Here, you will find a chain attached to numerous balloons. Ascend this chain, and once you reach the top, head to the left.
- You will find another chain with balloons. Continue to climb upwards. At the top, proceed to the right and defeat the crow.
- Keep using the balloons to continue your ascent. The skill can be acquired at the very top of this path.
- (Tip: After obtaining the skill, you can take a shortcut by exiting to the right.)
Hollow Knight: Silksong Thread Storm Tool Information
- To use the Thread Storm Skill, players must press the tool or skill key [R1] or [F]
- The Thread Storm ability consumes Silk to use.
- The attack hits all enemies in a circular radius around Hornet up to 5 times, each hit dealing 0.8x your needle damage, making it highly effective for crowd control or dealing with enemies that swarm the player.
- Only one Skill can be equipped at a time.

Thread Storm Notes & Tips in Hollow Knight Silksong
- Unlike passive Tools, Silk Skills like Thread Storm are active abilities that provide powerful attacks at the cost of the Silk resource, which is also used for healing.
- The ability to equip different skills is tied to the new Crest system, which replaces the Charm system from the original Hollow Knight.
- Players will need to manage their Silk carefully, deciding whether to use it for powerful attacks like Thread Storm or to save it for healing with the Bind ability.
- Players can extend the duration of the Thread Storm by rapidly pressing the tool or skill key [R1] or [F]
AnonymousHow is it that a “slight nerf”
ends up with the skill losing almost 50% of its damage?
Whoever is in charge of balancing is just so effing bad.
Volt vessels that cost basically nothing do more, & quicksling doubles their output.
You need to spend half a binds worth of silk, to deal poor damage, & sit in an enemies face to extend it for what 10 more damage?
Absolute cretins. Well done TC. Top notch patch.
On top of all this, Shaman crest goes from being very average to worse, at least the other crests wont even bother with this junk. Their aren’t even 3 silk skills worth using any more, its pale nails & cross-stich exclusive.
Simpletons.
AnonymousLiterally got nerfed to pieces, making shaman crest more than anything significantly worse.
Damage in the beta is about 50% of what it was. Like wtf is the point in not just using pale nails, when a non extended thread storm does less. Wtf is the point of even having 3 silk skills. Only 3 were ever worth using before, & now only cross stitch & pale nails are.
AnonymousAoE blocks most projectiles in the game. Needs more testing, but exceptions seems to be the spells from voided enemies and specific boss skills. Can be used to create openings in some boss battles, like during Bell Eater's spit shower attack

AnonymousUse the mirror + quick bind to get a slightly more expensive "thread storm at home" but better

AnonymousThis has the highest damage potential among all the skills.
Default Thread Storm does 16x5 hits, resulting in 80 total damage, and the additional hits you get by extending the duration do 7x5, so 115 total damage. For comparison, Silk Spear and Pale Nails do 63 each.
But it becomes completely, and I mean COMPLETELY busted with the Shaman Crest. Shaman Crest makes Thread Storm do 26x5 and 18x5 hits, resulting in a total of 130 and 220 damage. Other skills do not at all scale this large by equipping the Shaman Crest, only Thread Storm gains that much by using it; Silk Spear gets to 74 and Pale Nails to 96.
Note this has been tested with a fully upgraded needle and I do not know if the skills scale with your needle upgrade level.

AnonymousSo, i found out that if you grab the skill and your game crash, you lose the skill completely

AnonymousI discovered that you can extend the duration of this skill by repeatedly hitting the skill key (R1 or F), does not consume more silk.

i just realize.. this is based on needle damage.. meaning with focus of hunter you can deal a lot of damage with just the +1 focus buff *and that number only goes up as you get +2 focus and stronger nail*
