Hide is a Bonus Action in Baldur's Gate 3. Actions can be used in both exploration and combat to maneuver across the battlefield or to harm or aid Characters. The actions that a Character can perform are based on their Class and Equipment.
While hiding, the character is given the Hiding status, with the tooltip: Invisible to characters until you cross their cone of sight. You have advantage on all attack rolls.
When a character enters the cone of vision, a Stealth check is made against the target's Perception skill. If the check fails, the Hiding status is lost. Hiding also allows the character to pickpocket a creature.

Hide Tips & Notes
- Hide can be an extremely effective source for free advantage. As only a bonus action, moving behind an enemy and entering stealth can provide melee attackers with free advantage to hit.
- Hidden characters will not be targeted by enemy AI. Being hidden at the start of an enemy's turn prevents them from targeting the character with spells, items, or abilities. For this reason, hiding at the end of each turn is advantageous to prevent weaker characters from being targeted by stronger enemies.
- Vision cones do not pierce through clouds, such as those created by Fog Cloud or those created by fire surfaces interacting with water. Such can be helpful in creating "paths" to sneak through.
- Removing sources of light can make someone using stealth harder to detect - vision cones are shortened in the dark.
- As of full release Hide takes a action points and not bonus unless you pick specific feats or abilities such as Cunning action: Hide that changes it to a bonus action.
Anonymousreally annoying how many enemies in this game have darkvision. It almost makes stealth proficiency a straight up waste of points :(

Anonymousif i shoot like an assassin from a hidden position, it systematically reveals my position, i remain hidden, but my position is known to my enemies. it would be interesting to know if it's possible with a gift or something else to prevent this position detection, and what the mechanics behind it are. i found an old version of the "discrete" gift that talked about position detection, but nothing in the final version. it's a shame we can't play the assassin anymore :(

Hide IS NOT a bonus action. Hide is a regular action. Before someone argues that some classes can use hide as a bonus action, I am going to stop you right their. Where some classes—or rather just rangers & rogues—can attempt to hide by exhausting a bonus action, that bonus action is not the common class action named 'Hide'. Rangers, for example, can subclass and evolve into a 'Gloom Stalker Ranger'. That specific subclass gets an ability called "Dread Ambusher: Hide" which is an upgrade—or perhaps it would be more accurate to say an alternate version—of the 'Hide' action. The action does allow the character to hide using a 'bonus action', however, if the attempt to hide fails, that character can make a second attempt to hide by exhausting their standard action on the standard version of 'Hide'. This is only made possible because they are two separate abilities. FYI, Rogues also obtain a unique class action that is an alternate version of hide, and can be used as a bonus action.
