Franz | Mortal Shell 2
Franz is an NPC in Mortal Shell 2. Franz is the Blacksmith in charge of looking after the Tarforge in Marrow Keep. He's also the character responsible for improving the features of the Tarforge, allowing the Harbinger to upgrade their Sidearms, Tarstones, and the option to Smelt Equipment to recover Upgrade Materials.

Where to Find Franz in Mortal Shell 2
Franz can be found at Marrow Keep
- This NPC does not move in the Beta version.
- This merchant can die if you accidentally attack him. If defeated, he drops 50 Gloom, and in the Beta version, killing him will automatically unlock the additional features of the Tarforge.
Franz Quest and Details in Mortal Shell 2
Franz will ask the player to come find more parts of the Tarforge Smith when you meet him for the first time in Marrow Keep. In the prologue, you'll find the Muradean Actuator quest item that you can give to Franz to unlock upgrades for your Primary weapon. This item is encountered naturally in the playthrough and can't be missed. For the rest of the Tarforge upgrades, look for the following:
- Etching Needles - Upgrade Tarstones, requires Coins
- Muradean Actuator - Upgrade Primary weapons, requires Ventrium and Coins
- Obsidian Lathe - Upgrade Sidearms, requires Ventrium and Coins
- Foundry Stone - Melt down upgraded equipment into Materials and Coins
Where to Find Etching Needles in Mortal Shell 2
You can find the Etching Needles before the boss fight against Magdalena, Lady of the Woods, in Sunken Village. Travel to the Sunken Village Beacon. Turn left and cross the wooden bridge towards the village. Continue in this same direction and destroy the crates in front of the fences to reveal a path. Squeeze between the wooden fences and destroy the crates again. Continue walking towards the next wooden bridge, and you'll see an altar with lit candles on each side. Drop down the area to the left, and turn right before entering the tunnel. Open the chest to get the Etching Needles. Return to Marrow Keep and hand over the Etching Needles to Franz, then you can operate the Tarforge to upgrade your Tarstones. Upgrading Tarstones requires Coins.
Where to Find Muradean Actuator in Mortal Shell 2
Muradean Actuator can be found inside the beacon of the Village Outskirts in Prologue. This is the first beacon that you'll encounter, and you can find this item on top of the altar at the entrance.
Where to Find Obsidian Lathe in Mortal Shell 2
Obsidian Lathe can be found inside the Martyr's Tomb, a dungeon found in the church-like building outside Mushroom Village. Upon entering, go down the spiral stairs and use the elevator. Proceed further and turn left. Look for the stack of crates and destroy it to reveal a switch. Use the switch and go back to the previous room to find that the gate has been opened. Open the bone chest here to get the Obsidian Lathe and a Parasitic Stone.
Where to Find Foundry Stone in Mortal Shell 2
Foundry Stone can be found inside a chest south of the Outskirts of Mammon beacon, guarded by armored knights.
