LM87

From GTA Wiki

Once a racing pedigree famed for speed and dependability, the superstar LM87 has followed in the footsteps of every cultural icon that didn't have the good sense to die: retiring to LS where it can guzzle Premium, cruise Vinewood Boulevard flashing its taillights, and crash out face first in a Rockford Hills swimming pool.
Legendary Motorsport description.

The Benefactor LM87 is a sports prototype featured in The Criminal Enterprises update for Grand Theft Auto Online.

Design

[edit | edit source]

The vehicle is mainly based on the Sauber Mercedes C9, with details and customisation options bearing resemblance to the Mercedes-Benz C11.

The LM87 shares many design traits with the RE-7B and the S80RR, being the low profile and aerodynamic styling, and it possesses older features similarly to the latter. The front of the car features a sloped profile with a squared-off bottom, having a large opening in the centre with a single divider, circular intakes on either side leading to the brake disks, and a racing tow hitch on the left-hand side, along with small ducts on the upper area. Four circular headlamps enclosed in glass casings can be seen on the outer edges. The front serves as an openable compartment that hinges from the front, and opens forward to reveal the front suspension setup and a radiator/intercooler.

The sides feature rounded front arches, narrow intakes in the middle section and twin side-exit exhausts near the rear arches. The cabin area is relatively rounded and narrower, featuring a black line going around the windows, small mirror shells on the pillars and gull-wing doors, along with fuel inlets on the rear section. The rear area acts as the engine compartment, which hinges from behind the cabin and opens forward to reveal the engine bay, protective frames and rear suspension setup. The engine appears to reuse details from the open wheelers, with the "Benefactor" badging in place.

The rear area features circular tail lamps and a plate holder on the right-hand side, while the centre is occupied by a rear structure holding the race spoiler. The entire underside of the vehicle is mostly plated in carbon fibre, featuring elevated sections running towards the rear end.

The interior is very similar to the S80RR, having two analogue dials over the steering column, pull straps for the doors and a single CFRP seat in the centre, as well as paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. The dashboard is rather flat and a padded roll cage can be seen on the front of the cabin and the roof.

The primary colour of the car is applied to the bodywork and cabin roll cage, while the secondary colour is applied on the mirror shells and the stitching on the steering wheel. Although not accessible, a trim colour is also available for the paddings of the roll cage, while a dial colour is available for the brightness of the cabin lights. Similarly to vehicles such as the ETR1 and RE-7B, the LM87 features racing slicks with custom markings for the stock wheels, with the rims being similar to the ones on the RE-7B.

Performance

[edit | edit source]

The vehicle is powered by a single-cam V8 engine, coupled to a 6-speed gearbox and powering the rear wheels. The engine sound appears to be a higher-pitched variation of the one used on the Trophy Truck, the Hotring Sabre and the Vigilante.

Specifications

[edit | edit source]

Language

[edit | edit source]
  • The vehicle's name is the same across all languages.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • The name LM87 is likely a reference to the Le Mans Grand Prix, with 87 being a nod to the debut race in 1987 to introduce many racing endurance prototypes, including the Mercedes C9.
  • The "Racing Numbers" livery is based on the original Sauber C9.
  • The "Hardstand" livery is based on the Kouros Sauber C8, evidenced by its side stripes design.
  • The "Redwood Cigarettes" livery has a similar design to the Rothmans-sponsored Porsche 956.
  • The "Xero Gas" livery is based on the Sauber C9 Presentation car.
  • Like on the S80RR, the "Debonaire" livery is based on the Silk Cut Jaguar livery used in Group C.
  • Although it is unclear that it is indeed a feature, the LM87 sometimes "porpoises", bouncing up and down and loses most of its downforce at high speed, being accurate to the real life counterpart the Sauber C9 which uses ground effect like most of Group C cars at that time used which sometimes causes "porpoising" to happen.

Oversights

[edit | edit source]
  • The stock spoiler can be removed in a mod shop, by quickly alternating between a custom spoiler and the stock one.
  • Even with stock suspension, the LM87 has a tendency to heavily clip through terrain while driving.
