Titanite Scale is an Upgrade Material in Dark Souls 3. Titanite Scale is used to upgrade all Soul-Transposed Weapons. Titanite Scale is found in multiple locations and an important scarce resource.

Titanite Scale Locations in Dark Souls 3

• Can be purchased infinitely from Shrine Handmaiden for 20,000 souls each after obtaining the Dragon Chaser's Ashes from Archdragon Peak.
• 3x Bought from Greirat of the Undead Settlement for 16,000 souls each, if he returns alive from his second expedition. If he doesn't survive, his ashes make the scales purchasable from the Shrine Handmaid. (note: step must be complete, killing Greirat of the Undead Settlement before this step does not give the scales).
• Dropped by Rock Lizard in Archdragon Peak (rare drop).
• Dropped by Ringed Knight in The Ringed City (rare drop).
• 5x at Cemetery of Ash:
  • 1x dropped by a Ravenous Crystal Lizard in the cemetery. (Video Location)
  • Receive 1x by trading a Blacksmith Hammer with Pickle-Pee and Pump-A-Rum.
  • Receive 3x by trading Avelyn with Pickle-Pee and Pump-A-Rum.
• 2x at Farron Keep: dropped by a Ravenous Crystal Lizard, in the shortcut between the Farron Keep Perimeter bonfire and Crucifixion Woods.
• 1x at Cathedral of the Deep: dropped by a Ravenous Crystal Lizard outside the cathedral down by the moat. At the base of the hall with the giants, there's a door that leads outside. Jump off the ledge and go through the gap to get out and it will be to the right,
• 1x in Smouldering Lake: found in the catacomb maze under the lake, in the room with the Basilisk.
• 1x in Irithyll of the Boreal Valley: found on a corpse before the Silver Knight archers, after the Pontiff Sulyvahn bonfire. It's on top of the building that hides the entrance to the Water Reserve bonfire.
• 3x in Irithyll Dungeon:
  • 1x dropped by a Crystal Lizard in a hallway near the first exit.
  • 2x dropped by a Mimic chest in a side passage on the lower level with many Jailers.
• 3x in Consumed King's Garden:
  • 1x found on a corpse under the staircase, in the shortcut area that leads back to the start of the level.
  • 2x found in two chests in the same room, after the Oceiros bonfire.
• 4x in Untended Graves: 2x dropped by each of 2 Ravenous Crystal Lizards in Untended Graves (in the same location as the Lizards in Cemetery of Ash).
• 10x in Lothric Castle:
  • 1x found in a chest near the Dragons, guarded by an Outrider Knight.
  • 1x found on a corpse under the right-hand Dragon (seen from Dragon Barracks), the dragon has to be killed to reach it.

  • 3x in a chest near a Crystal Lizard right before the second Wyvern, before the Great Belfry bonfire.

• It looks very similar to Demon Titanite from Dark Souls, and also serves the same purpose.
• In DS2, the function of Demon Titanite was taken over by Petrified Dragon Bone, explaining this demon dragon scale.
• It costs 300,000 Souls to purchase 15 titanite scales, which is the required amount to upgrade to + 4.
• Recovering Escaped Lizards: If a Crystal Lizard burrows away before the Ashen One can defeat it, the material is not necessarily lost forever. Rather than reloading the save file, the Ashen One should simply travel to the nearest bonfire and rest. Resting effectively resets the world state, causing the Crystal Lizard to reappear at its original spawn point, granting the player another opportunity to secure the upgrade material. If a lizard is knocked off a ledge during combat, check the ground near where it fell; if it died from the fall, the loot will often be waiting at the point of impact. Understanding these respawn mechanics ensures that rare materials, such as Titanite Scales, remain accessible throughout the journey. Always check the area where a lizard fell, Dark Souls 3 has a "loot persistence" feature where items dropped by enemies who fall into bottomless pits will occasionally teleport to the edge of the nearest walkable surface.
• Farming at Archdragon Peak: For the Ashen One requiring Titanite Scales in the end-game, attempting to farm them from enemies is highly inefficient. While the small, stone-like Rock Lizards near the Great Belfry bonfire in Archdragon Peak do drop Titanite Scales as a rare drop, the most effective end-game method is to purchase them. By retrieving the Dragon Chaser's Ashes near the peak's summit and delivering them to the Shrine Handmaid in Firelink Shrine, she will begin selling an infinite supply of Titanite Scales for 20,000 souls each. Consequently, the optimal strategy is to farm high-yield soul areas such as the Ascended Winged Knights on the roof of the Grand Archives and use the accumulated souls to buy the required scales directly.
• Optimizing Item Discovery: When farming for rare drops, the Ashen One’s "Item Discovery" stat is the primary factor in determining success. To maximize efficiency, the Ashen One should stack additive bonuses: equipping the Symbol of Avarice, the highest-level Covetous Gold Serpent Ring available, and consuming a Rusted Coin. This configuration can push Item Discovery well above 400. While this strategy is excellent for farming covenant rewards or rare equipment, it should not be used to farm Titanite Scales from Serpent-men, as they do not drop them. Instead, this discovery setup is best utilized when farming high-yield enemies for Souls, which can then be used to purchase infinite Titanite Scales from the Shrine Handmaid once the Dragon Chaser's Ashes have been turned in.
