Black Iron Greatshield is a Shield in Dark Souls 3. Greatshields usually weigh a decent amount and provide the best protection in the game. They are often used by players who have high Strength, as they require a good amount in order to use.
Greatshield made of black iron, deeply feared for its association with Knightslayer Tsorig.
Black iron offers high defense, and is particularly effective at warding off fire.
Skill: Shield Bash
Without lowering your guard, strike the enemy with the shield to knock them back or stagger them. Works while equipped in either hand.
Black Iron Greatshield Notes and Tips:
- Can be Buffed and Infused.
- Reinforced with Titanite.
- Provides an average block of 74.8%.
- Has 71 stability when fully upgraded.
- The maxed(+10) reinforced and Fire(Gem) infused has 99.6% fire defense. However, this does reduce the physical and other elemental defenses. This near-perfect fire defense makes it a good shield for walking through the lava in Smouldering Lake.
- This greatshield first appeared in Dark Souls wielded by Black Iron Tarkus.
- The shield was designed as part of a contest FromSoftware had before Dark Souls was released. Adam Ledzion is the name of the creator and the original name for the shield was the “Blood and Souls Shield”. He was credited as a Shield Contest Design Winner in the end credits of Dark Souls.
Location/Where to Find
- Dropped by Knight Slayer Tsorig underneath the Smouldering Lake. He can be found beyond the areas with the rats and the basilisks (frog-like creatures whose attacks inflict the curse status on players) but before the exit that goes up to the ballista. (Part 5 - 1:36:50)
