Baldur's Gate 3 Wake Art Cullagh Walkthrough
Finding Art Cullagh
Art Cullagh is found unconscious in the Last Light Inn, in a northern ground-floor room. He appeared suddenly when Isobel cleansed the inn. The Flaming Fists, including Counsellor Florrick (if rescued during Rescue the Grand Duke), are watching over him. Fist J'ehlar explains that Art hasn’t responded to anyone, but the party is welcome to try.
He carries a writ of duty signed by Eltan (Flaming Fists’ founder), and a worn letter mentioning a mission to investigate the House of Healing, suspected of corruption. The party notices calluses on his hands, suggesting he played a string instrument, and that his mind is affected, but not destroyed, by the Shadowfell.

Thaniel and Halsin’s Help
J’ehlar doesn’t know who Thaniel is or the meaning of a mysterious song associated with Cullagh. However, if the party protected the Druid Grove (Save the Refugees), Halsin is at camp and recognizes the name.
After inspecting Cullagh at the Inn, Halsin stresses the importance of waking him and suggests finding an item or memory that might trigger it.
Exploring the House of Healing
Cullagh’s letter leads the party to the House of Healing, now corrupted by Shar’s followers. Entering through the main door triggers a scene with Sister Sinda, who blocks access to the doctor unless persuaded, intimidated, or tricked. Alternatively, players can sneak in via a side entrance.
Inside (X: -199, Y: -16), Malus Thorm is “operating” on a tortured patient. The party can engage him in different ways—debate, investigation, or direct combat. Dialogue options vary based on class and approach (e.g., Druid, Wizard, Paladin, etc.).
A fight can break out with Malus and several sisters. Alternatively, using skill checks (e.g., Investigation or Religion DC 14), the party can manipulate the sisters into turning on Malus or themselves.
Malus carries the Battered Lute, engraved with Cullagh’s initials. Returning to the Inn and playing it near Cullagh awakens him. He immediately asks for Thaniel, confirming the connection.
Depending on background, the player gains one of the following inspirations:
Favour for a Favour (Noble)
Strings of Fate (Entertainer)
Waking the Sleeper (Sage)
If Halsin is alive, he takes the lead to find Thaniel and lift the Shadow Curse. The next step is to meet him by the lakeside for the Lift the Shadow Curse quest. If Halsin is dead, the quest cannot proceed, and the region remains cursed.
