BG3 Resolve the Abduction Objectives
Go to Last Light Inn.
- Z'rell ordered us to kidnap Isobel, a cleric hiding out at Last Light Inn. An agent of the Absolute is there, keeping close watch on her.
Help Marcus capture Isobel.
- Marcus, a True Soul who has infiltrated Last Light, told us that his powerful master demands that the cleric Isobel be taken to Moonrise Towers alive. If we do this, Last Light will no longer be protected from the shadow curse.
- A winged Flaming Fist who serves the Absolute swooped in to try and abduct Isobel. We decided to side with him.
- Z'rell asked us to return to Last Light and help Marcus kidnap Isobel. If we do this, we will gain an audience with Ketheric.
Protect Isobel from Marcus.
- A winged Flaming Fist who serves the Absolute swooped in to try and abduct Isobel. We decided to help Isobel fight him off.
- We refused to help Marcus abduct Isobel, and instead helped her fight him off.
- We attacked Marcus after he told us about his plan to abduct Isobel.
- We warned Jaheira about Marcus' plan to abduct Isobel. We should help her terminate Marcus before he can carry out his plan.
Report to Z'rell.
- We helped Marcus abduct Isobel, and she was carried off to Moonrise Towers. Z'rell will be pleased.
Report to Ketheric.
- We helped Marcus abduct Isobel, and she was carried off to Moonrise Towers. This should earn us an audience with Ketheric.
Quest Complete Descriptions
- We prevented Marcus from abducting Isobel. Why would the cult want her alive?
- We weren't able to save Isobel from Marcus, the True Soul who infiltrated Last Light. When she was captured, the shield protecting Last Light collapsed.
- We helped Marcus abduct Isobel and carry her off to Moonrise Towers.
- When we killed Nightsong, Last Light fell to the shadow curse. Isobel died in the subsequent battle.
- We angered the denizens of Moonrise Towers; it seems unlikely that anyone there will still want to reward us for abducting Isobel.
- We freed Nightsong, and Moonrise Towers is now under attack. It is unlikely we will be welcomed there.
- We reported back on Isobel's kidnapping to Ketheric himself.
- We reported back on Isobel's kidnapping. Z'rell has granted us an audience with Ketheric.

BG3 Resolve the Abduction Walkthrough
Meeting Isobel & Seeking Protection
Upon arriving at the Last Light Inn and earning Jaheira’s trust, the party can ask her how to survive the Shadow Curse as part of the Seek Protection from the Shadow Curse quest. She points them to Isobel, a Cleric of Selûne and the source of the Inn’s magical protection. Isobel is upstairs, reinforcing the barrier on the balcony.
She recognizes the group as independent-minded True Souls and grants them a Blessing of Selûne, which offers limited protection from the curse. If the group gave the Moonlantern to the Harpers during Follow the Convoy, she returns it. Otherwise, she says the Harpers are studying how cultists withstand the curse.
Alternative Path – Working with Z’rell
If the party went to Moonrise Towers first, Z’rell offers a mission after completing "Find Ketheric Thorm’s Relic" and helping Balthazar capture the Nightsong. Thorm wants his daughter, Isobel, brought back and has sent Marcus, a True Soul spy, to retrieve her. Z’rell orders the party to assist.
Encounter at the Inn
No matter the path, the group can meet Jaheira and then Isobel upstairs. After talking, Marcus appears—revealing through telepathy that he must capture Isobel alive. A DC 6 Wisdom check shows Thorm sees this mission as crucial. The party can choose to expose Marcus or support him.
If the party failed to save the tieflings during Save the Refugees, Marcus vouches for them when Jaheira confronts the group at the Inn. He later admits his mission upstairs. Players can report this to Jaheira (Persuasion/Deception check), prompting her to gather Harpers while the group protects Isobel—or side with Marcus.
Aftermath & Consequences
Supporting Isobel & Jaheira
If Marcus and his allies are defeated, Isobel maintains the Inn’s ward. Jaheira stays to help plan the attack on Moonrise Towers after completing "Find Ketheric Thorm’s Relic". She can temporarily join as a follower and later become a full companion.
If Isobel is killed or captured but Jaheira survives, she leaves for Baldur’s Gate seeking reinforcements. The party can convince her to join them instead.
Siding with Marcus
If Isobel is kidnapped, she reappears in Act 2’s climax, enthralled by a Mind Flayer tadpole. She supports Thorm in the final fight. If left alive after Thorm’s death, she dies shortly after.
Losing the Last Light Inn
Failure to protect the Inn leads to several major losses:
- Counsellor Florrick dies if not spoken to, missing her role in Baldur’s Gate.
- Art Cullagh perishes, blocking "Wake up Art Cullagh", though "Lift the Shadow Curse" is still possible via Speak with Dead.
- If Dammon wasn’t contacted, Karlach’s quest, "The Hellion’s Heart", cannot progress as her engine can't be repaired.

AnonymousSAVE BEFORE TALKING TO ISOBEL AT LAST LIGHT, BECAUSE SOME NPC FRIENDLY FIRE DOWNSTAIRS CAN BREAK THE "RESCUE THE TIEFLINGS" QUEST.
When the combat initiates, Alfira starts out on the bottom floor already pinned in place by an attack from one of the Winged Horrors in the cutscene before the initiative roll happens. Jaheira usually starts out very high in initiative turn order and her very first move will be to cast Ice Storm — which she'll frequently unleash with the edge of the AoE over the top of the immobilized Alfira — and will friendly fire murder her. This will potentially mess up parts of the "Rescue the Tieflings" quest later on.
Since Jaheira is an ally you can't attack her to stop it, and you usually won't be able to make it out of the room to kill the Winged Horror she's targeting, let alone can you spare someone to remain below while everything is coming after Isobel. The best thing you can do is just reload and restart that combat until Jaheira places her Ice Storm AoE correctly without murdering Alfira.
I had to reload it like 3-4 times before Jaheira finally cast it correctly without killing an ally (and she then immediately fell prone on her ice surface which felt like poetic justice).
Especially since it's not Alfira dying in combat to the actual attackers, she's meant to be trapped in place right next to Jaheira, and it occurs almost immediately, this feels more like a bug in the setup for the battle that's not supposed to be happening.
Plus, there are enough ways for that Rescue quest to go sideways without this screwing over all your hard work if you manage to win this battle.
AnonymousWhen you first reach the inn you might accidentally talk to Isobel on the 2nd floor and trigger this quest. Avoid.

Zrell never offered me to help kidnap her, told me to go straight to balthazaar
