Get Past the Rubble is a Quest in Baldur's Gate 3. Get Past the Rubble can be acquired during Act 1. This quest takes place in the Underdark as part of The Adamantine Forge Main Quest. Completing Quests allows players to learn more about the world and characters in Baldur's Gate 3, as well as earn more loot and experience to become more powerful.

Baludr's Gate 3 Get Past the Rubble Walkthrough

After entering Grymforge, head up the stairs and move northward. Around coordinates X: -668, Y: 442, you’ll meet Herdmaster Skarjall, a duergar overseeing Deep Rothé as they dig through collapsed rock.

Skarjall immediately tries to delegate the whipping of the Deep Rothé to the party, claiming it will encourage faster work.

If the party questions his methods and succeeds on a Persuasion check (DC 15), Skarjall reluctantly reveals a piece of Adamantine Slag, hinting that a rich vein of adamantine lies beyond the rubble. He offers gold as compensation for helping to clear the debris but emphasizes that any findings from the Adamantine Forge remain the property of his clan.

How the party handles the Deep Rothé will shape what follows:

  • Brutality Backfires: If the party encourages Skarjall to whip the Rothé again or agrees they need punishment, both the beasts and Skarjall will become hostile.
  • Animal Handling (DC 15): A successful check can persuade the Rothé to either keep working or rebel against their duergar handlers.
  • Speak with Animals: Using this spell allows direct communication. The Rothé can be convinced to clear the path or fight back.
  • Using Force: Attacking or whipping the Rothé directly triggers a hostile response from them.

Outcomes of Rothé Cooperation

  • If the Rothé are convinced to continue digging, Skarjall betrays the party to keep the adamantine spoils for himself. The Rothé will aid the party in the ensuing battle.
  • If the Rothé are persuaded to rebel, they help eliminate the duergar. Afterward, they can still be asked to remove the rubble.
  • Alternatively, the rubble can be broken down using bludgeoning weapons or force-based spells like Eldritch Blast or Smokepowder Bombs.
