In this Shadow of the Erdtree Devonia’s Hammer Build, I'm going to be showing you my Devonia Devastator build. This is a build that uses Devonia's Hammer and the Crucible Knight armor to achieve absolutely devastating results. This build is, of course, named after Devonia, one of the Crucible Knights you face in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, from whom you get this hammer, as well as the helmet that you can match with the Crucible Knight set.

In this Elden Ring Build Guide, I’ll be showing you my Devonia's Hammer build. This is a Shadow of the Erdtree build that takes place after level 150. Elden Ring Devonia’s Hammer Build - Equipment

Devonia's Hammer is a colossal weapon that deals predominantly physical damage with a bit of holy damage. It scales very well with strength and has decent faith scaling, offering a fantastic guard boost and a high attack rating for substantial damage per swing. However, its significant weight of 20 makes it challenging to use, especially with heavy armor like the Crucible Knight set.

The Devonia's Hammer scales primarily with Strength, Dexterity, and Faith and is a good Weapon for STR/FAI builds

The weapon skill, Devonia's Vortex, resembles Ordovis's Vortex and involves a twirl and ground slam that can be charged for increased damage. This skill deals immense damage, particularly when combined with Shard of Alexander and Godfrey Icon. Boosting physical damage with Flame, Grant Me Strength or Exalted Flesh is also effective.

Initially, I paired Devonia's Hammer with new Crucible incantations, but faced issues: optimized for the Clawmark Seal, I lost about 80 attack rating compared to my current setup. Additionally, using the Clawmark Seal resulted in less effective incantations than with the Erdtree Seal and high faith. Therefore, a more faith-focused build is better for using incantations with the Crucible Knight set. Moreover, the Aspects of the Crucible: Bloom incantation often missed enemies, whereas Aspects of the Crucible: Horns proved viable with good AoE.

Using Devonia's Vortex requires finding the right openings, especially for the charged version. The skill's hyper armor while charging allows you to tank through many hits, making it easier to execute against enemies and some bosses. Effective strategies include jump or running attacks to build stance damage, followed by stance-breaking enemies for a charged Devonia's Vortex, and chaining stance breaks with subsequent attacks.

The Erdtree Seal scales with Faith, and is a good Weapon for any high-faith character that wishes to use Incantations.

For this build, I'm using the Erdtree Seal for its zero weight, focusing on Golden Vow and Flame, Grant Me Strength for damage and protection.

The Crucible Tree Set is a Heavy Weight armor that boasts superior Physical and Magical defenses, catering to Strength-focused characters and defensive playstyles.

The Crucible Tree Set provides high poise and protection, essential for surviving close encounters with bosses while charging Devonia's Vortex. The new Crucible Hammer-Helm matches Devonia's appearance but isn't necessary if you're not using Crucible Knight incantations.

Two-Handed Sword Talisman enhances attacks with two-handed weapons

For this build, I recommend several talisman setups, particularly for bosses. My go-to setup includes the Two-Handed Sword Talisman for increased damage on all non-Vortex attacks.

Shard of Alexander greatly boosts the attack power of Skills by 15%

The Shard of Alexander boosts the Vortex weapon skill's damage, regardless of whether it's charged or not.

Great-Jar's Arsenal raises maximum Equip Load by 19%

Great-Jar's Arsenal helps manage the heavy setup, allowing for medium rolling with 30 endurance. If you have higher endurance (40-45), you might not need this talisman.

Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman enormously reduces Physical Damage taken, by 20%

Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman provides significant physical protection, especially when combined with Golden Vow, the armor set, and Opaline Hardtear, offering around 72-73% physical protection at plus 7 Scadutree Fragments. As you level up, you might consider replacing this talisman for more offensive options.

Godfrey Icon raises attack power of charged Spells and Skills by 15%

Alternative talismans include Godfrey Icon for boosting charged Vortex damage, useful in boss fights where you don't need the extra protection.

Crusade Insignia raises attack power after defeating an enemy

Crusade Insignia is beneficial when exploring the landscape, offering a 15% damage boost to both regular attacks and weapon skills, making it more versatile than Godfrey Icon in certain situations. The Two-Headed Turtle Talisman is helpful if you're struggling with stamina, though higher endurance levels (35-40) typically mitigate this issue. You can also use the Greenburst Crystal Tear in your Flask of Wondrous Physick to address stamina recovery problems.

Claw Talisman increases jump attack damage by 15%

Lastly, the Claw Talisman can be a good choice if you frequently use jump attacks, providing significant damage boosts, especially when paired with the Two-Handed Sword Talisman. This combination enhances your jump attack damage, making it a strong option for this build.

Elden Ring Devonia’s Hammer Build - Attributes Distribution

For attributes, we have 50 Vigor, 25 Mind, 30 Endurance, 65 Strength, 13 Dexterity, 16 Intelligence, 25 Faith, and 9 Arcane. The Intelligence and Arcane stats are unnecessary, a leftover from starting as an Astrologer.

Vigor is set at 50, but ideally, you want to raise this to 60, especially since this build is showcased at levels 150 to 160. This lower Vigor is due to the need for high Endurance and a minimum of 25 Faith to use Golden Vow and Flame Grant Me Strength. Increasing Vigor to 60 is crucial for better survivability as you will be trading damage frequently.

Mind is at 25, as you won't be using a lot of it. While exploring or in legacy dungeons, buffing with Golden Vow or Flame Grant Me Strength is often unnecessary due to already high damage. These buffs are mainly for mini-bosses or elite enemies. Additionally, the weapon's Devonia's Vortex isn't used much in regular encounters.

Endurance at 30 is necessary for medium rolling with the chosen armor setup. Heavier armor will require more Endurance, while lighter armor will need less. However, using very light armor is risky as trading damage is a key part of this build, and survivability is vital. With increased Endurance (up to 40-45), you may eventually drop the Great-Jar's Arsenal, freeing up a talisman slot to further boost damage.

Strength is at 65, just below the soft cap of 66 for two-handing weapons, providing good scaling and damage. While you can increase this for more damage, it's not essential. Dexterity is set to 13 to meet the weapon requirements, and Faith is at 25 to use Golden Vow and Flame Grant Me Strength, crucial for enhancing damage during boss fights.

Elden Ring Devonia’s Hammer Build - Final Tips

For the Flask of Wondrous Physick, I recommend the Opaline Hardtear for increased protection and the Greenburst Crystal Tear for enhanced stamina recovery. While there are other talisman options, beyond boosting Strength or similar attributes, there aren't many ways to increase damage significantly with this setup.

For the Great Rune, Radahn's Great Rune is an excellent choice, providing more FP, HP, and stamina, making the build easier to manage. Morgott's Great Rune is also a good option, offering increased health which is beneficial since this build involves a lot of damage trading.
